Note II Owners, Developers, & XDA Members:
I briefly mentioned this in another, related thread. However, considering how unique and specific this is, I thought it best to create a thread dedicated to it. Furthermore, I am fully aware of just how counterintuitive this is. As a matter of fact, there was just an article on XDA News this week that discussed doing the exact opposite. So, without further adieu, here's my question.
Has anyone tried flashing an I317 (AT&T Note II) ROM onto an N7100/N7105 with an N7100/N7105 modem? I know it seems counterintuitive, but what if you really wanted an AT&T Note II, complete with all the stupid AT&T crapware, but still wanted an international IMEI? Anybody tried this yet?
Now, before a flood of criticism comes my way, let me save you the trouble. You're right. It makes much more sense to flash an N7100 ROM onto an I317 instead of vice versa. However, there are a few AT&T-specific features that are included in the I317's stock ROM that I would like to explore on my N7100. So if anyone has any experience or good advice to help get me going in the right direction, I would REALLY appreciate it. Thank you for taking the time to read this. You have my gratitude.
Thank you,
Ed (Mister_Mxyzptlk)

Also, I welcome anyone who's tried this with one of the other US variant's ROMs too... all except for Verizon.

I want to do this too
AT&T cannot (or WILL NOT) correctly provision unlocked phones so I can't get 4G speeds with my N7100 international Note 2 - haters! But the saleslady told me if I could get it to broadcast to the network as the SGH-i317 it would automatically pick up the 4G network. I have a little flashing experience from my Samsung Captivate, but isn't there a way to go in and change the network settings without rooting?
I think it would only work with the N7105 since the two phones are pretty much identical hardware wise. That being said, you'd need to grab an SGH-I317 ROM, run it through dsixda's Android Kitchen (making sure to extract the CSC as well during the working folder set up process), then delete modem.bin from the root of the working folder, then build the ROM - that would be the bare minimum required to take an AT&T ROM and make it flashable to an N7105 (because if you flash the modem, you're screwed and will need to restore the proper modem).
And look into making proper EFS NV item backups, along with the mk9efs partitions.
I have an issue with audio. My phone is having trouble with people hearing on the other line. I had the same issue on my last S3 too. I had that one replaced. I think it is the rooting itself. I rooted and used the Verizon port on my S3. I don't know what to do. I really need help please? I cannot get through to other people on the phone.
Rooting didn't cause it. Maybe the Verizon rom did, though.
Troubleshooting basics. Work backwards until the problem is gone. By this I mean Odin a stock tmo image.
What rom r u using bro?
If cm then that is a known bug
And stick to T-Mobile roms.(not saying ports are bad)
Other roms from other carriers may work but I'd say you're risking it... Im trying to help
And as above odin back to stock T-Mobile and u should start off smoothly to flash "T-Mobile" roms. Lol

LiquidSmooth 4.2.2 ROM is available for both the ATT and Verizon S3's. I have the ATT and I regularly flash my Cousin and his wife's phones for them. But they're four hours away and I won't see them again for a couple months.
What I've done in the past with my ATT Skyrocket was to flash a TMobile Hercules ROM on it and customize it the way it needs to be, then just sent it to them to restore from CWM.
But, the Skyrocket & Hercules were essentially the same phone. So now that we all have the S3, and they are on Verizon now, I'm not sure how well I'll get away with this.
Basically I flash the ROM on my phone. Install all their apps. Set up all little tweaks & customizations. Then do a Nandroid for them to restore on their phone. Makes it a nice and TIGHT phone. They love it, and I get killer BBQ & Beer & Pool fun when I go visit every few months.
The Wife's phone has been having issues, so it's time for a new flash. And they're still on 4.1.1 ROM's.
I know the TMO & ATT S3's can share the same ROM. But I don't want to brick my ATT S3 with a Verizon S3 ROM flash, even if it's just for a couple hours while I set it up. Wondering if it's absolute trouble waiting to happen?
Its different. I had to root my friends vzw s3 and the whole process is different, and I'm sure the partitions are different.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
They are already rooted (TWRP). But that's a good point about the partitioning.
Definitely not going to do something unless someone else has already leapt from this bridge before me....
Nope. I wouldn't try it either.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Don't do it. You will brick their phones. The system files are very different. with different hardware as well. The antenna mainly. As well as a special dialer app and files to work on the out dated cdma network
Wayne Tech S-III
It might work, you wouldnt have signal.... I wouldnt try it though.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
Bootloader is different. Kernel is different. The partitions may be even set up differently. Different radio bands, RILs and other items will cause it to brick.
Maybe it's the allergy meds I'm on, or maybe I just felt like testing the boundries.
Just flashed AOKP's Verizon 4.2.2 3/5/13 release on my D2ATT.
Phone still boots & works.
Well, data doesn't work (as you guys said it wouldn't). But WiFi does work.
Rebooted and installed gapps. Set up a bunch of settings. So far, so good. Though Play Store does crash. Can't get past that so far.
EDIT:
I just flashed the Verizon version of Slim Bean 4.2.2.
It had an option for me to not only add an APN, but also to select GSM. The AOKP did not.
After setting up these two things, data is working fine. Made a phone call too.
Playstore working also.
Since there is not a consolidated thread/forum for people who bought the unlocked t-mobile note 3 and use it on the AT&T network, I will make one here. This is for people who have any complaints or praises of their phone.
How is the reception of your phone?
Any problem with rooting or custom rom?
How is the performance after rooting or with custom rom?
Any regrets on buying the phone?
Then it should be on the AT&T forum.... People using the T-Mobile model on AT&T will probably go there to check for help.

Actually I think it fits this forum more. I was trying to figure out which forum is best and I think the t-mobile is better because of the hardware. Later on more ROMs and modding of the device would affect it.
It be better if it stay in T-mobile because every thing else about this particular model is here. So i personally would like to not jump between two different sections. IMHO.
Aren't they the same model?

I am trying to find a Thread which had APN settings for various providers including ATT and Straight talk. But i cant find that thread. I wanted to at-least reference that thread in this one. To consolidate helpful information. For those of us who are using Tmobile N3 on ATT network. AHA... Found it!
[Guide] T-mobile Note 3 on AT&T's Network/Root info/LTE Confirmed
If we put an AT&T rom from the AT&T rom development forum, it may mess up the t-mobile phone since they have different frequency band. Therefore, it is best to use the t-mobile ROMs and report any bugs here in this thread.
Both being same devices except for radio bands, we will see most of the roms being cross compatible.
In any case if the phone is factory unlocked you can put any room designed for the 900t on it and use it with att.

what i meant was u can put a rom compatible with n900a( att version ) in N900T ( tmob) and vice verssa .. But i would wait till someone tests it out..
Yes rom* and what I said is what I meant but of course some 900a roms MAY work with it but simple comparison is like using a n9000 (unlocked international model regardless of rom) on T-Mobile. Easiest method is to use the 900t roms and enter the apn for att of course. Just to clarify.

I am an ATT Subscrber using a TMOBILE NOTE 3. The original NOTE I purchased I did the CF CHainfire Region unlock and it unlocked my SIM - but, I flashed a rom and did a Nadroid restore and borked my phone into constant bootloops - I picked up a second phone rooted it - and STUPID ME - tried flashing a second rom - this time I made the mistake of flashing an updated version of TWRP that ultimately BORKED MY PHONE AGAIN. ARGHH. I am not a noobie - I have been flashing roms for years and never had these issuses before.
I have my replacement NOTE 3 (I love TMOBILE customer service, though I don't think I can ever show up there again) and tis time I am being much more careful. I am rooted but I won't flash a custom recovery until I am certain things are more stable. Right now, too many phones are having issues - too many users in constant bootloops.
anyway - that is my experience so far. I love the NOTE 3 - Reception is Awesome - LTES speeds are just as good as they were on my ATT S4 - absolutely no complaints - EXCEPT I hate KNOX - which I think is the ultimate root of the problem so many people are having with Bootloops -
That's my story ..... happy to be here - and to be honest, for those that suggested we use ATT forum for this Thread - I think this belongs right where it is. We are using a TMOBILE PHONE - this thread belongs in the TMOBILE forum. Those are my two cents.

Weren't able to go back to recovery? Typically if you're stuck in a boot loop the phone is obviously still responding. I hope you didn't toss the og notes!

Well said. I vote to leave it here as well. I will be looking for roms on this site...I have rooted my unlocked T-Mobile Note 3. Flashed recovery thru goomanager, and...flashed Darthstalker rom version 2. No KNOX or carrier id...running very smooth and loving it very much. At the same time, I plan on being very careful after listening to all the trouble many have had with recovery. Hang in there Guys. We are just a few days into this big journey.
Too scared to do anything with mine, stock N900T.

I like every other person who was experiencing the Bootloops of death tried everything to get the phone working again - once it started I could not get past the bootloops regardless of what was tried - I ended up tyring to restore with ODIN but that didn't do any good - and once I had done that, I only had stock recovery - I could boot into Stock recovery - but couldn't do anything to get the phone to actually boot up. I have heard talk from others who said they think it was KNOX locking up the phone - others said it was patitions that were bad - I have no idea - but anyway - the only option I had was to return the phone. I am only grateful they gave me a new one. And no, I didnlt have any OG notes - not even sure what they are...? Go into the QA section and you can read all about the problems I and others have had - and it not just a few people - it is a pretty significant number...
You said you bricked the note I (og note as I was referring to) I was talking about that the whole time, not referencing the note 3 whatsoever...

Yo!
I am now a member of this party. Currently scouting this out on the xda.
Information still seems a bit conflicted at this point.
I too am too scared to do much to the phab at this point, and am concerned about getting ROMS. Like my LTE Verizon Tab 10.1, there may be very few of usin the group, and we will have limited options but hopefully like another post said, the T mobile ROMS should work, just add the APN. With the Verizon Tab, it had different issues from the wifi versions and ROMS were hard to come by.
Is our phone different, meaning it has more LTE bands than the ATT?
Could we get a zip file to overwrite the modem files in ATT ROMS if it is?
Any way to get the APN as an executble or zip? Just to make it easier than a mistype?
I am not a dev, and not a noob, but can be absolutely completely daft at times! I use my phone, and its not a disposable toy, but can have some toy nature to it. This might be a good place to exchange information, since we probably are gonne be a small group.
Hi Guys,
Can anyone recommend the most feature packed Note 7 ROM for my Note 4 Sprint carrier. I have Used Dr. Ketan Note 7 ROM. It's a very good ROM..
But the camera app isn't updated and after updating it doesn't work, the original Samsung keyboard doesn't work properly, there is no private mode in it & message app doesn't work either.
So looking for a Note 7 ROM that contains less bugs.
Thanks,
Asim
Ive been using Tx.dbs Ultimate Note 7 hybrid rom since it came out and have been completely happy with how it operates as a daily for me,everything pretty much works perfect for a note 7 rom on a note 4.:good:

If your using Sprint service, I agree with @JAMRZ69, the UN7 rom by tx_dbs_tx was made specifically for Sprint.
But feel free to try others to, as long as they have a sprint fix.
Also try to apply AlternateSmsMmsSendingFix_UN7_Hybrid_by.txdbstx to any of the roms you try, as it might help with sprint service. It's on his thread.
As far as private mode goes, i don't think any note7 ports have it. I could be wrong about this part though.
Thanks guys,
I will surely try this ROM and post my feedback.
BTW, is it just me or do you guys also feel that Sprint carrier phone has very less Custom ROMS compared to other variants..
Also lucky are those who have international variants because I've seen ROMs that have almost 0 bugs..

Yes, I can agree with that. I'm kinda lucky in that apect,as I'm unlocked using gsm service (cricket). So it's easier for me to get the other roms working.
To explain why, from what i understand as I'm not a sprint customer, but from what I've studied here. Sprint is one of the hardest carrier's to get working, as they have an extra layer of software to connect to their service, in a sense! Plus Also the predominant service, worldwide is GSM. So there are more GSM roms and it's easy to get a certain gsm rom to work with another gsm provider, and also it isnt super hard to get cdma roms to work with gsm. BUT it is difficult to get GSM roms to work with cdma, especially Sprint because of their setup.
Hope that gives you some insight! At least this is how i understand it!
Plus also, there were actually a lot of sprint roms, they're just older lollipop or not being further developed. This is because the device is aging and all the devs moved on to another device. That's why we must be grateful for the continued development of roms on this device from these great developers. Hopefully some young learning devs like me can keep it going. But I'm just am old dog learning new tricks!

I am using an unlocked sprint phone myself.. Would that also allow me to flash custom ROMs which are for other GSM variants? If that's the case, then I can get hands on some really good ROMs.

Yes, how it usually works is, you install the rom, then you need to install a separate kernel for your device (in most cases they'll suggest the Ram kernel), Then you'll need a data fix. Which usually can be found, or you make one.
If you try a rom and have trouble, I can try to help you with making a fix. They're pretty simple for gsm service. What I've found out is, to stick with installing sprint kernel, but since we use gsm, you can use a tmobile data fix most of the time.

Omg, there are so many options. It's hard for me to say. I have a few post on Sprint section, giving my opinion, explaining some different roms. But it was just comparing newer Sprint roms. When you bring in the international thread, there's just so many options. And all of them are good. Its gonna come down to what works for you. Browse some of the current work going on, and try one. If you don't like after a trial run, try another. If anything, it'll give you xp flashing your device.
But just to name ones that I've actually had running, here's a list in no particular order:
Enhanced
Norma
Nemesis
Dr Keaton
Nameless
Auroa
Emotion
Resurrection
Lineage
Just off the top of my head. That's not counting the ones one the Sprint thread like, UN7 and Dtux.
Read, do some research, look at screenshots and pick one.
Once you pick one and if have trouble getting going with data fix. Let me know I'll try help!
Happy flashing!
Remember, it has to be a Snapdragon Rom.
im curious if anyone has found a nice rom to put on the N4, I just got a replacement the other day and im hoping to load something fun onto it. It came with marshmallow 6.0.1...
the last thing i had was UN5 running, im a little afraid to try UN7 knowing that development has stopped for it..
