now what i understand one method use RSD lite to flash the ROM into Phone which can be done by connectiong phone to PC and another jst do upgrade from phone directly.
1. is this right or anythng more than what i understood.
2. can i upgrade from Original Stock froyo in india to Cm7 2.3 .
3. CM7 is a complete OS. so it wont matter what ROM u curerntly have if its upgradation .
4. do i need a nandroid backup to install Cm7. as far i understood i need a nandroid backup only if i downgrade to Stock os and want my setting and apps back in phone.
5. is there cm7 2.3 country specfic. where will i get a fixed-cm7 version so that i can downgrade to stock froyo later.
6. Do i need to backup my current OS ???
hopes someone will clear these doubts .. seems reading lot will also make u confused ... someone do have any other good link of upgradation tutorial .. ?? plz share that ...

Ok it's pretty simple. Do following.
1.> Root the device using 2ndInit
2.> Create nanodroid backup
3.> Make sure you turn off USB Debugging
4.> Reboot to enter Bootmenu (Press Volu+ when you get blue light)
5.> go to Custom Recovery> backup and restore> Backup. This will take sometime.
6.> Choose Wipe data/Factory Reset (you will lose all data, apps etc)
7.> Select Wipe cache partition and then go to Advanced > Wipe Delvik Cache
8.> Go back and then select install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard
9.> Then select the Zip from the SD card and say Yes
Wait for sometime, reboot and you're done.
After this is done, you can user gapps.zip to install the google applications.
thanks to the post @mandhir.
You need froyo 2.2 in order to upgrade to CM7. Since CM7 uses the same Froyo kernel you can downgrade any time you want. A nandroid backup is adviced incase you arent impressed with the changes and want your phone back in the previous state.

That's exactly what a nandroid backup is.
Sent from my ME525+ using Tapatalk
method 1 was deviced at the time when there's no official froyo available, and it's now outdated. it was for you to upgrade from eclair to fixed froyo sbf since cm7 requires froyo. just ignore that since you already have official froyo in your phone.
you will also come across some old posts mentioned doing a nandroid backup of eclair and flashing a fixed froyo before cm7 incase you need to downgrade back to eclair for warranty purposes. that's out of date too since you can now do that with official froyo.
so just start from method 2 and you'll be right. and make sure you run defy basebandswitcher in the app page to select the correct baseband for your phone/carrier. this very important step is missing in the instructions unfortunately, and caused me some frustrations and nearly given up on cm7
edit: if you have a lot of apps in your phone now and want to port them into cm7, do a backup using apps like titanium backup etc. it's different from nandroid backup which is like an image clone of your current phone state.
@ryan thanks. nw i understood thing more clearly .. cm7 requires froyo kernel. Bt somepost i read to use an Froyo Ceee jordan version (i dnt remeber the term completely
) if u cant upgrade succesfully to cm7 from ur stick froyo .. I hopes it wont happen to me ..
@jh20 thanks a lot man . i nw it clear like water for me . seems i shuld have checked the posted date along with reading those old ones..
i had a misunderstading that titanium is used to take nanndroid backup and from there all the doubts started ..
im posting what i understood
Titanium backp will only contain apps and user settings which cant be used to directly flash as ROM . it used to restore the data to phone after installing or reseting the same OS on which backup is made.
While nanndroid backup is an image of the existing OS with all the uset settings and app so u can restore it anytime . this will be helpfull f cm7 is nt satisfying ur need..

they are all fixed sbf.
(edit: actually i think they are nandroid backups and not fixed sbf, sorry)
those that are not downgradable will be mentioned specifically in their first post.
i've nandroid backups of cm7, miui, and stock froyo. i can switch between them anytime i want, just like clone image backups of my pc
btw i think they should have called it "patched" sbf instead, as "fixed" can be confusing. when i first saw it i thought it meant the rom is fixed and can't be altered/downgraded which is just the opposite of what it's supposed to mean
A fixed SBF is flashed in order to provide the missing kernel in a rom( and other stuff). But since you're already on a froyo kernel you wont need it, as CM7 requires the same. It is it proposed to use a Nordic froyo as base for better performance but you can use any official froyo as base to upgrade to CM7.

@ryan thanks friend.it was de direct answer. i thought the "fixed" wont have those two partitions which store version number so that they wont be formated and overwritten and thus keep downgradabilty .( gt this from defy guide @ xda ) .. didnt thought abt the kernel part ..
so now i feel its easy than it seems to be if i can switch between os with the nandroid backup . my defy has now 1 gb free . dat it it took total 1gb with app an OS. how much space nandroid will it take .. im using an 8gb card. and i have all apps backup. (not settings).
and how u feel cm7 .. doest it made any bug to u . i dnt have feel any bug at my froyo 2.2.2???
im planing to use this link RC1.5 Here:http://www.multiupload.com/217FS9PYDC from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13279140&postcount=1
is that ok for me ??
once again thanks all ..
i don't use any extra apps and my stock froyo nandroid backup is 357mb with all the motoblur stuff, while cm7 110909 nightly is 226mb. so the size depends on how many apps and data you have i guessed.
Ok .. nw in india we dnt have Moto Blur .and apps take only 200mb (nw free memory is 1000mb showing) as free memory for user is 1200 on factory reset.
another term that came to my mind is "nightly" what it actually means.. I thinks it a custamised form of stable cm7 .. r8 ? can u post some screenshots on defy .. i cant find anysuch thing ..
no, nightly as the name suggested is a nightly updated version. that's right, they work on the rom just about every day! and the daily updated rom file is updated to the jordan-cm7_nightly folder:
http://defy.tanguy.tk/
once a nightly rom is good enough it will be uploaded to the jordan-nightly folder. that's why the jordan-nightly folder has less files than the jordan-cm7_nightly folder.
so if you want to be safe, you should use only nightly roms from the nightly folder. cm7-nightly folder is for the brave as some of them may not be stable or still has known/unfixed bugs. infact i know for the fact the 110912 rom was pulled from the list because it did not work. and notice that there are some nights missing too for some reason
then once they are satisfied that a rom is good enough to be a major release, it becomes the rc, like rc0, rc1 and rc1.5.

That's not true.
Fixed SBF means the Code Group 39 and 31 has been removed from the SBF so it wont flash upper CG versions, and therefore killing your downgrade ability.
You need to use a Nandroid backup after a Fixed SBF is to provide the corresponding Files that "should have been flashed" by the CG39/31.
You cannot change the Kernel, that's locked by Motorola, and we are just using Modules attached to the official Moto Kernel. but nothing more sadly.
And dont worry about bricking your phone, is almost impossible unless you disconnect your phone on a critical point/remove battery while flashing with RSD Lite, like creating partitions or something like that.
The worst that can happen is getting stuck past Boot up logo, which means you just have to start again and flash with RSD
You can restore your nandroid and get back on froyo whenever you wanna throw it into the warranty. Dont worry theres not an option to brick the phone and it isn't that easy anyway. Remember to only wipe data/cache through custom recovery , never use the stock recovery and you should be fine.

Hey everyone.
I own a Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660M With Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread that I got from Bell Aliant Along With a Motorola Xoom Wifi Canadian That I bought at Wal-Mart one day.
I am intrested in flashing Custom Roms onto My Samsung Galaxy Gio Gt-S5660M. I have Rooted and Installed ClockworkMod on my Samsung Galaxy Gio Gt-S5660M. I have recently been looking up stuff on how to install them onto my Samsung Galaxy Gio Gt-S5660M. I recently attempted to install Android 4.0.3 Ice cream Sandwich onto it. and I realized that I installed the wrong one because it was for the S5660M Model Not the GT-S5660M, Resulting into a boot failure. as the screen would fade out to black when booting to the Operating System. I was still able to access the Recovery mode (I never Had ClockworkMod Installed at that time) and the Custom ROM Download mode (Vol Down + Home + Power button) but it would fail to connect to my PC (Windows 7 Home Premium & Ubuntu Linux 64-bit) So Later on I told my dad about it and he sent it to bell Aliant to get it fixed. And now I would like to know how I can install a custom ROM and If I ever come across this problem again, how can i solve it without taking it to Bell Aliant to get fixed (Since it's a software related issue)
Thank You For reading and I hope to hear a reply for someone.
When you flash a rom it is very important to do a backup before hand. You sound like your new to this so your in the right place. Whenever you do a back up and you run into a problem like the one you ran in to, it's very simple to restore back to its original state. Also, most companies won't cover software issues once they figure out your rooted. So you might run in to a problem with your company. My advice is to read read read read and ask as many questions as possible before doing anything to your phone you aren't sure about.

Some more things, it is very useful for you to download ROM MANAGER and TITANIUM BACKUP from the app store. These two apps are life savers when you run in to the problem you had. hold the power button, the volume down button, and the HOME button at the same time, when the phone is off. then use a tutorial on how to flash roms with ODIN, download a rom from sammobile.com
Here's some ROM's that I am interested in installing:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414173&page=435
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1659450
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1708383
Would I install them something like this?:
1. Download & Place this rom on your root sdcard
2. Go to recovery mode
3. Install zip from sdcard, install rom (cwm) | Install menu, install rom (RZR)
4. Wait till installation completed
5. Reboot
7. Reboot & Play
also about Rom Manager, I read this Thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1706999
but I can't get the "GT-s5660m" Option to show up on it. Maybe it's the M on the end of it
After the installation is finished, you need to do a factory reset, then reboot.
Otherwise you cant boot.
And for cm9 it may be required to have atleast a gingerbrea2.3.x rom

I have Android 2.3.4 on it will that work?
Also how can I backup my Stock rom on it as well.
I noticed a backup and restore option in Clockworkmod as well (I have Version 5.0.2.6) Will that work incase I mess up again?
First of all, do not use ROM Manager to install CWM, you will brick the device doing so.
The nandroid backup function in CWM should work, but having a working Odin install with your Odin-flashable stock ROM backup is always a nice plus.
While I don't have one personally, there have been reports on here of the same USB jig (a micro USB connector with the appropriate resistor between pins 4 and 5) used on the Galaxy S Vibrant working on the Gio as well. This is if it doesn't want to go into download mode anymore.
These are a few gotchas with flashing ROMs on the Gio I can think of right now:
-Don't flash the Euro baseband on the 5660M and vice versa. (The AMSS image in Odin tar files)
-Be sure to have your partitions in the appropriate file system format, and CWM to go with it. I'm talking about ext4 and Samsung's stock, and proprietary RFS format.
If you have the usual MUGK3 stock ROM all Canadian 5660Ms have been delivered with, install CWM (via Odin, or with root and the dd command), format to ext4 and install the latest CM9 nightly zip file. Nothing more to it really.

I am not going to use ROM Manager to begin with. as my device is not listed.
I used the recovery to install Clockworkmod (CWM)
Also I noticed that some ROMs are strictly for S5660M Not the GT-S5660M.
If I want to Install a Rom That For the GT-S5660 Does it Matter if it has the "M" in the name of my model? as in GT-S5660M
Also is it possible to flash zip files with odin?
Or has the ROM only have to be in tar format?
One last thing
Well, Before I start flashing (Because I'm pretty close to knowing now)
I am going to post 5 final questions before I begin:
1) Does it matter about my Model code for a ROM?
EX: ROM Made for the S5660 or GT-S5660 And I want to Install it on my GT-S5660M
2) If I Come across the problem I had earlier that caused me to take it to bell to get it fixed, Will the Nandroid Backup & Restore fix it?
3) Is it possible to mess up installing a ROM that the phone is inaccessible to the Recovery & ROM Flasher?
4)If I forget to Factory reset my phone while installing a ROM, can I go back to the recovery and factory reset and reboot?
5)If I Choose to install this ROM:

1 .zip files that you flash via recovery can be flashed easily, thats fine
Just watch out with odin roms like gioprio, they contain a baseband and you will have no service, but can easily be solved by flashing a m model baseband
2 I think not
3 no, unless you do it terribly wrong
Flashed 20+ roms and nothing bricked
4 yes.
Make sure partitions are ext4.. This can be done with ext4formatter zip or installing for example cm7 rom first, than cm9.
Just stay on gingerbread, android 2.3 or higher
2.3.3 or 2.3.4 doesnt make a difference

Where can I get a Stock ROM For my GT-S5660M?

as for the last 2 ROMs i mentioned earlier, the process is the same eh?
I just need the most information that I can get.
Hi there.
There is a compiled list of all ROMs for the 5660 and 5660m Gio in the development area.
the Stock Rom for 5660M (The GT is nothing to worry about) is this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1385874
There are a few other custom roms made only for the 5660M.
You can absolutely use a rom that is s5560, but note:
If you are selecting a Rom that is flashed using odin, always open the .tar using winzip or 7zip and just check for a file called amss ... this is the broadband file which would cause you to lose your phone signal. if you want to use the ROM, remove that amss file.
is you are flashing a rom through clockwordmod, these don't change the broadband.
so you can freely use any of those ones, such as cm7, 7.1, 7.2 9 or other based on stock roms.
Cyanogenmod (cm) requires the internal file system to be ext4, where as most Rom based on stock can use either rfs (stock file system) or some do support ext4 internal for a bit of increased speed.

About this Ext4formatter.zip that voetbalremco mentioned, where can I get it to, would I do this before installing the rom or after installing the ROM?
I know that I need to wipe cache partition, factory reset, and wipe Dalvik cache.
Would I do all of this first or after installation?
Like I said earlier I'm sorry for asking a lot of questions, I just need to most information I can get. lol

Exformatter.zip
You use it before installing, same thing with the wipes.
By the way, this ext4formatter is a one time event.
Once it is done, its done.
The wiping is every time before you install a different rom.

INSTALL CWM RECOVERY
INSTALL ROM
Lupus kernel ICS v8
( I'm not really sure if you need to install rom first or the kernel first)
Explanation:
1.Factory reset in cwm (CWM so you need root, and unlocked bootloader so that you can change kernel)
2.wipe cache partition (this is something inside CWM to wipe your cache partition)
3.wipe dalvik cache (inside CWM)
4.Format /system (in mounts and storage) (Format system only)
5.Format /cache (Format cache)
6.Format /Data (internal data)
7.Install XperiaPlay Ice Cream Pureness.ver.1.zip (don't need to extract, put the zip you've downloaded into your SD card, go to CWM, install zip, choose zip from SD card, select that zip, press install, wait)
8.Reboot now and you are done !

Hey,guys
I spent many hours trying to solve my internet problems on E988.Even on stock rom i had a problem:connection was established, but sometimes internet stopped working for 10-15 minutes.Reboot or turning flying mode on\off didn't help me.
So i decided to root my g pro and move to cyanogenmod
What i became?Worse battery life and same problems with connection.
But after 6 month i finally found a solution
1.My first mistake was flashing radio from roms created for another country,it did the situation worse
there is no sense to flash radio after rooting and unlocking my phone using freegee
2.My second mistake:i made EFS backup, but was too lazy to restore it
3.My third mistake;i used stock "bic" TCP sheduler."bic" is not the best fo 2g\3g network i am using
Stock linux kernels using in android have 3 standart TCP sheduler types:bic, reno and cubic
you can google and choose best sheduler for your connection type
So if changing TCP(using Trickster mod,for example) didn't help you,you need to back up all your contacts, sms and other important files on external sd card or even better on pc and follow this steps:
1.Flash to stock rom in download mode using lg flash tool(you can found thread with flasher and .kdz files on this forum)
2.Don't forget to make a factory reset before turning your phone on,if you have a bootloop
3.Root your device
4.If you like stock rom, just root it and install trickster mod, then change TCP type, but i haven't tested it on stock,i'm using CM 11
5.If you want to use custom rom, root your device and install free gee.backup your efs partiotion using it,then install cwm or twrp
6.Copy your EFS_BACKUP folder on sdcard
7.Download rom,place it on sdcard
8.Enter recovery,be sure it sees your sdacrd, some lalest twrp builds don't see it,so you can flash early TWRP,you can find it on this forum too
9.Make a factory reset,wipe cache,dalvik cache,system,data and interanl_storage
10.Flash your rom
11.Better flash any other latest supersu through recovery,cm builds use supersu, which don't work with titanium backup or another apps for some reasons
12.Boot in your rom, download free gee, restore efs partition(don't forget to copy it from sd card to internal)
13.download trickster mod, choose reno or cubic TCP type.
14.Press apply on the top of app, save changes for every boot
*For best perfomance use deadline sheduler*
15.Reeboot and enjoy
Issues and quesions during installation:
-Recovery don't see my sdcard!
Flash earlier version, you need to find it on our forum, just don't wipe all partitions,as i did but you always can reflash to stock using download mode
-I don't press any key while booting, but it enters CWM
It's a cwm issue, flash twrp using .zip archive, can be found on this forum too
-Can i flash radio?
You don't need to do it.You have latest radio from your stock rom, which 100% works on your version of optimus g pro.Full wipe doesn't touch any radio file.
-Do i need to restore efs partition every time I change rom?
I am not sure, but better do it
Wonderful effort! Thanks for the informative post

Hello!
I recently got a Note 2 (GT-N7105)
And for some silly reason wich even disappoints myself i wanted to overclock , well that didn't make sense i know but however i did it! and directly after i installed the required file (I don't remember wich one but it was for 1.8Ghz) after the installing my phone kept showing the boot logo , i tried to use my backup but even after restoring it didnt boot! I cleaned everything wich also cleaned my backup...
I been on it for about 7 hours now trying different roms , kernels , and every file i could find but nothing helps.
I now installed Cyanogenmod using CMW but even that bootloops.
The last thing i could notice is CMW showing me a E: failed to Mount /efs (Invalid argument) Wich makes me worry even more...
I honestly hope there are some good peaple who could help me with this... Finally got a great phone and by stupid mistakes i made it won't work anymore..
I don't care what rom gets on it , Even if its a hello kitty rom u won't hear me complain , If the phone works again i'll be happy!
Not sure if this helps but its a GT-N7105 , i know it had the newest android there was (4. something, i think it was 4.3)
Odin does see the device , My CMW (6.0.4.1) works and Download Mode works.
I hope anybody can help me!
In case you want to help me live wich would be awesome my skype is : chrishendriks92
If it gets fixed i will Offcourse place the solution here.
(The note is not a new one , its used and a few months old , worked 100% before my stupid decisions bricked it)
(so here's a small version)
-Every rom i tried will bootloop , It shows a different boot video/logo everytime tho
-It all happened after i tried a 2.8Ghz Overclock
-i get a EFS error in CMW
-Accidentily i deleted my backup but i don't mind whatever rom gets on it
-Download mode and CMW (6.0.4.1) works

Ok, so what I would do.
I would wipe data through CWM.
Download official ROM from sammobile.com and flash it through Odin.
I hope this will help to get the phone booted.
After that we will worry about imei recovery.

I'm downloading it , looks like its going to take a while so i'll let you know!
Try mskips toolkit from skipsoft.net. It has a recovery package that should do the trick. There is a thread on it on here but i think it's closed due to Microsoft signature issues

ill get the T-Mobile screen , and then the samsung logo where it gets stuck , the install was completed tho so no errors whatsoever
This is a picture link s30.postimg.org/8l0bgrxa8/image.jpg
Would be amazing if you could help me out with this because i can't choose ''Option 2'' right picture , it just won't take it.
I can install teamviewer or whatever programm you want
I have the same problem, I'm on 4.3 version and tried to downgrade to 4.1.1 and went back to 4.3, I formatted the system through twrp with NO OS INSTALLED to be sure it is totally cleaned but all the way, I still experiencing reboot issue.
At first I encountered unfortunately systemui has stopped, done rooting and fixing permission but still no luck.
One more thing, I already flashed pit file.
.
(Update , I tried anything i could but it didnt work out , its going to Samsung Support)

You installed a kernel right? To over clock? First flash new bootloader, then flash stock kernel, then again flash stock rom, do not let the device boot up before you have done all three.

yup I already did that,I flashed stock kernel from http://opensource.samsung.com/.I know reflashing stock rom will delete everything including root.
What I mean is when Im rooted and tried to wipe the phone, SuperSu also deleted.Im wondering that I have a corrupted emmc, It seems that it is not mounted correctly, although I tried to flash a pit file already.
