Whenever I type 'fastboot flash boot boot.img' to transfer any kernel in CMD window it shows < waiting for device > and nothing happens. Can anyone please tell me what the problem is and how to get through with it.
install the driver.. installation of htc sync will give you the required driver

I've HTC Sync installed already but no use. Still the message < waiting for device > appears in CMD window.
Is your phone in fastboot mode?
It should be writtend "Fastboot USB". And when you connect it, windows would do the "toudoum" sound if drivers are fine.

Yes it is, but it does not automatically show "Fastboot USB" when i connect it using the usb cable. I have to press my volume keys up down to make 'fastboot usb' appears. And it does make that 'toudoum' sound within a sec i connect my phone.

Hi, I have the same problem as you. I treid root my one x and now, it has clockworkmod on it, but no back up, no stock rom and no rom on the phones hd. I can confirm that in command prompt the device is found, but the phone is not visible on my computer/usb wise for me to put a rom/files onto the phone so I could get a rom on it and make it work again. Right now my phone is just an expensive brick. I tried doing the recovery option but says failed due to low power, the dman thing was plugged in all day and would not even turn on at first. Can anyone help me? Thanks and sorry for adding to your original thread/problem post.
Cheers
Ate you charging using USB connected to your computer or outlet? Try outlet.
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
If you have clockworkmod older than 5.8.4.0, you should update it. Then you can charge from recovery and mount the drive as USB to copy ROMs on.
Just know that cheap USB cables, although looking solid may not be good enough to transfer data. THe phone detects this and defaults to a non-data enabled mode. Get a different USB cable and try again.
Hi,
I'm running Cyanogenmod 10.1 (20130312-Nightly-endeavoru) for some time now.
I'ts time for a new version, but to do that I need to copy de vendor blob to my HOX.
However, for some unknown reason I cannot get a USB connection from my PC to the phone anymore.
Windows doesn't recognize the plugging in of the cord anymore. Both ADB devices and FASTBOOT devices show NO device attached.
USB debuggingmode is on.. so that can't be the problem. I reinstalled the htc-sync software to make sure drivers are installed properly..
I'm out of options of what to check further.
Any bright minds out there who can assist ?
Thanks,
Paul

makes no difference. HOX tells me USB storage is in use, with an orange/yellowish android-robot in the screen.
Still no sign from explorer and/or adb and/or fastboot
there is something rotten in the kingdom of denmark
Go to recovery > mounts and storage > mount usb storage.
Alternatively you can use adb when booted to recovery.

Hey, Thanks !! That seems to work. :good:
Question: Any idea why I can't have a connection outside of Recovery ?
Don't know what's the cause but it's likely fixed by doing a full wipe before installing the nightly and flashing the boot.img.

I'm afraid that's not going to happen. To flash boot.img I would need fastboot, and fastboot isn't finding the device..
A nice chicken-egg paradox
I'll try an update from the CM menu...
And it used to work before ?
Are you sure the device is in fastboot mode? (FASTBOOT USB displayed in red)
How about drivers on your PC?

1) Yes, it used to work.
2) I wasn't trying to make the connection from recovery. Just the normal phone-mode, plug in the usb cable, pick USB connection from the menu, and activate USB storage.
3) Nothing really changed on my PC, and reinstalling HTC Sync software didn't do the trick. Drivers must still be good.
I've updated from the CM menu and now run CM 10.1 20130403-NIGHTLY-endeavoru (build date: Tue Apr 23:13:27 PDT 2013)
This hasn't changed my USB problem.
I meant the fastboot, it only works in fastboot mode.
Boot to bootloader by holding vol- and power. Select fastboot from the lil menu.
Now do fastboot devices and it should work.

Ah - of course.
Yes, in fastbootmode, fastboot devices gives the device name.
ADB still refuses to answer
uninstalled the HTC drivers, and reinstalled from scratch. Still no USB connection in explorer
Gonna try a different computer tomorrow.
Thanks, so far
Huh, you don't need ADB in order to flash boot image. Once you do that, usb issues should be gone
Put the correct boot.img to your fastboot folder and
fastboot flash boot boot.img

The usb issue is definitely a PC related issue
I connected the hox with a laptop, and it worked as normal.
Now to find out why the pc won't recognise the hox anymore.
thanks for thinking along
btw, do I need to flash the boot.img when I update CM from the About >> CM updates menu ?
the kernel is now: 3.1.10-cyanogenmod+

Keep an eye on the changelog, if it says "kernel" or "ramdisk", you need to flash the boot image.

I don't know my friend has this on his hox, running venom and it has this issue across multiple pcs, operating systems and usb cables.
Mounts fine in recovery/fastboot but in sense its nope.
He has just got it back from repair so maybe that was the cause.

My laptop at work has the same issue - no connection possible.
So, I have a pc and a laptop that won't work, and one laptop that is working ok...
weird, and hard to pinpoint the underlying problem
Let me break it down to simple
When I connect my one v to pc in normal mode it doesn't give the prompt to whether connect as disk drive and other options it charges as we normally charge it and when I connect it in fastboot mode it goes to fast boot ac in place of fastboot USB pls help would really appreciate

1) For your first query
a) Go To Setting --> Connect to PC :
in it you will get two options
Default connection type and Ask Me.
Just check weather Ask Me flag is selected or not. If its not then select that.
It will ask you the next time you connect your HTC one V to your PC.
2) Just check weather you have installed HTC USB drivers in your system. You can check it in
Control Panel > Install and Uninstall Apps (Inside your PC if you are using Windows)
If that is not present then ,
Go to this link
HTC SYNC Manager Download
download and install.
I have done every thing still no good

same happened with me. It turned out there was a prompt on my M8's screen asking for permission for my computer to use USB debugging. I gave it access and adb was working fine.
I had the same problem on windows 8. I installed HTC sync and everything worked fine.
Make sure USB debugging is enabled.
When you connect your phone and use the 'adb devices' command for the 1st time your phone will give an USB debugging RSA prompt. Click ok and you will be good to go in windows 7. Just run the 'adb devices' command again (or click on the UP arrow on the KB, this will replicate the last typed command) to check it sees it.
Windows 8 - No idea

Turn off usb debugging. Give the phone a reboot.
Turn USB debugging on again and connect it to your PC again
Look at the phone It should come up again. Make sure it is set to 'always authorise'
Type adb devices = profit

I had the same issue on my Windows 8 pc.. I was able to rectify the adv device not found issue by going into device manager , clicking on the HTC one icon and manually installing the drivers by browsing through my computer and using my Nexus adb drivers and everything worked fine after that
Download htc sync, you'll need those drivers. Then follow grentuu's instructions.

I had the same problem using Windows 8.1. adb and fastboot were definitely installed correctly as I already used them for flashing other ROMs on my Nexus 7. The solution in my case was to download and install the HTC Sync Manager. After installing the hsm the adb and fastboot commands worked perfectly.
Best regards,
B.
