Need help quickly, the best settings for camera (concerts) - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am going to an indoor concert tomorrow and i would like some setting that are good when using my note 2 to take picture and video's, so i can get almost perfect pictures and video's , i am using Omega rom 11 and i have the normal android 4.1.2 camera app/software.
The reason is in august last year i was using my sgs 3, i think it also was with a omega rom at a concert with the same group as i am gonna se tomorrow and the pictures turned out be less perfect and the few video's i took sounded like there was no bass at all (even when i stod next to 4 or 8 big subwoofers, normal spl)

Kind of "I selling my horse to bay an donkey" story! But maybe you can explain why?

What he meant is Galaxy Note 2 is better than the Sony ZL. I want to try one but but it is more expensive than the note 2. I am not a Samsung fan but I have to admit that No other smart phones can beat the Note 2 right now.
I just sold my note 2...going get xperia zl when it becomes available...

Ha ha.. Sold my note2 as well in a heartbeat as soon I laid my hands upon the ZL. And I'm very happy with my decision.
Apart from the bigger screen & battery life on note2, I find everything else better on the ZL (which also doesn't have buggy emmc nor corrupts those 64gb SanDisk SDXC cards like note2/GS3 ).
Sold note 1 for zl tho.. Im quite satisfied. My samsung experience was horrible. Batt bloated 3xs for one year of usage. Cant waste more money.

It really depends on how u use it. If u like to simply point and shoot, I would say Samsung (note2/GS3) is bit better for day photography, but Sony is better for indoors & night shots. But, if you workaround (play with different modes/settings ), then Xperia camera beats Samsung's, whether day or night. I've had some decent shots with my note2, but some really good ones with the ZL. Having said that, I have no doubt that the camera hardware is much better in the ZL, but sony really need to fix the default high ISO preference (auto mode) & resulting loss of sharpness (due to over smoothening). Besides, I feel that Samsung camera software is zippier, with better optimised post processing, but always liked the colours (also details due to higher pixel count) captured by Sony more than by Samsung.

I don't know about Dpk1's experience, but I've had better luck with getting good pictures switching to Normal mode instead of using the default Superior+ mode. I seem to be able to get the right exposure and focus on a consistent basis this way.

Try this. What I usually do is use the auto mode with auto flash at night/poor light, and Normal mode with ISO auto, hdr off, center metering, flash off in bright light. For indoors ISO 200/400, flash off, hdr off, average metering. For landscapes (in daylight), the scene mode "landscape" does a decent job. I'm yet exploring other options. I've also noticed that auto mode sometimes delivers quite good results even in daylight (its a hit or miss). Burst mode (mid) does provide crisp images in bright daylight. Sony really needs to improve on the post processing, i.e reduce & optimise its aggressive noise reduction. Hope it helps.
Iv been a Note 2 user since it came out and i have zero complaints..I wanted to give the ZL a try because i figured google wallet would work on an unlocked phone. When i got the ZL i was very happy. But the happiness didnt last long. I love the looks of the phone but there are alot of downsides that i experienced (which might not be what you guys experience).
First the size, im so used to using the big note 2 its hard to use something smaller even if it is only .5 smaller. its a big difference when you type and web browse etc.
2nd, google wallet doesnt work unless you root and tweak and tweak and etc..i want google wallet working straight out of the box since its an unlocked non carrier specific phone with nfc.
3rd, the signal on the ZL is not the greatest, it doesnt seem to get my wifi signal too well compared to my note 2 and it would be in hsdpa(+) mode in an LTE area sometimes where my note 2 would be in LTE all the time. also the LTE signal is weaker by one bar compared to my note 2.
4th, the screen is beautiful and crisp but the note 2 screen seems so much brighter and more vibrant, thats just my opinion.
5th, camera start up time is like 4 seconds..this is on the initial start up..from then when i close the camera and reopen it it starts up within 2 seconds which the note 2 does every single time.
6th, i compared the call quality to the note 2 since i heard the quality on the ZL was awesome. I heard alot of hissing noise when calling someone and during the call. I know that has alot to do with the network but when i called on the note 2 right after i get no hissing noise. its just a cleaner call quality on the note 2..much cleaner..for me
7th, battery. I knew going into this the battery wouldnt compare to the note 2 but my god the battery sucks..im to used to the note 2 lasting 2 days.
8th, the loud speaker sounds good but the note 2 speaker blows it away..there is a big difference in the speaker quality and music output
there were few other minor issues like the notification light bug which i got around and fixed it.. but those r the main ones..so im keeping my note 2 and selling the ZL..I hope you guys have a better experience with the ZL than me..i wanted to like this phone so bad but it cant beat the note 2 sorry guys.
I LOVE The size of my zl but its sitting in a box. I ordered a note 2 and should be here Monday. The value of the zl dropped big time. I paid 635 when it came out and I can't even sell it used for 500

Well
I Just ordered a Xperia ZL today - Will be here Tuesday - Paid $515 delivered to me - Put my Note II for sale online and locally.
The 1080p Screen and easier "pocket-ability" is what got me Interested - and the fact that I could get it for almost nothing after I sell my Note II.
It was an impulse buy as it was a good price and only 2 of them were available.
This thread has me wondering - I expect the battery life to be less - But I think I'll be happy with it.

Battery life is definitely note2's forte (7hrs vs 5.5hrs screen time for me). But I am enjoying my ZL and certainly don't miss my note2 (sold). It's more portable & fits in pocket/hand better than note2. I'm much impressed with sony's build quality! Mine survived a 3ft drop (without case) on concrete floor with minor scratches on two edges, which note2 certainly wouldn't have imo. I think the call signal/volume is as good as on note2 (even louder maybe) on C6502. Camera launches faster than note2 within 1-1.5 secs from screen off/sleep (using camera button). Default sound quality (via headphones) is better on the ZL to my ears & speakers are loud enough (note2 was louder). I can't even think of going back to 270ppi AMOLED display after being spoiled by super crisp 441ppi Sony ZL's display! Reading text is much better on ZL, its like night and day for me !
Remember, every device has its pros n cons. So, don't be bothered and enjoy your new purchase!

[Q] Thinking of buying an M8 but Is the camera still that bad?

Hi Guys
Im thinking of changing from G S5 to an M8 (S5 is Sooo boring to use, its just an S4 really), but I do like a good quality camera.. so Im just curious to ask ..
Is the camera as bad as the reviews say and have the HTC Updates improved it at all?
If you own an S5, how does the M8 compare?
Thanks
pretty silly reason to change a phone. S5 is as good as m8 so i suggest ,stick to it. Not really a upgrade and you will get bored of all phones , we all do.
and there are **** loads of comparison vidoes
www.youtube.com is your friend
I hate samsung and i bought m8 3days ago its the best phone i just love it pictures are awesome to specially in low light

Its not really a silly reason at this point no... when you consider that Ive only had the phone 3 days, The Touchwiz overhaul is not as major as they promised and the videos on YouTube, which Ive watched many of, all seem to come from the first 4 weeks after release, of which most, not all, are from over excited fanboys or bought reviewers, and dont take into account the updates that have been pushed by HTC to date and if these said updates have improved the camera at all and also how the audio sounds without Beats Audio..
The S5 Camera, like the S4 LTE on release day, does have some focusing and noise issues in low light, but the youtube videos dont tell you that..

Thanks for the input
But its mainly the camera, so If anyone can help me please.. Has the updates improved the camera
If your just going to use the pictures on your phone or for mms this phone is great (I previous owned a S4 and a Z1). There's also a mod on here you might want to check out?

There are entire threads about this topic, including one with dozens of pages of photos for you to look at, all tken with the M8. Whether the camera is good enough is completely subjective, so look at the photos it takes and see if they're good enough for you.
To the OP, I know exactly how it feels to currently be torn in middle between sticking with the S5 or M8.
Now as for my opinion, since I owned both phones, Im currently on and Sticking the M8.
I originally bought the M8 from TMobile new the day it came out. At first I was very impressed with the built quality and the smoothness of the UI on top of Android (Sense)
But after about 3 weeks of playing with it and taking lots and lots of pictures, I decided I wanted to give the S5 a try. So I ended up trading my M8 on Craigslist, even trade, for a Galaxy S5 in same new condition.
Now after playing with the S5 and using the camera to the fullest extent and my daughter Pre K graduation, I was very impressed with the Galaxy S5 camera. Like the Note 3 it had the same bells and wisles except with a higher pixel count and a couple more features added. But in comparison to the HTC One M8, the camera do seem to be "slightly" more sharper and more realistic looking.
BUT
With the big over haul in TouchWiz the phone seemed to lag here and there, and speaking of camera, during my daughters graduation Im taking lots of Pics and 1080p video, the phone started getting very wam and prompt a message that said "Phone Over Heating, Camera Disabled". So my camera was disable during the graduation so I missed a couple moments to take pics and record video. Phone cooled down and the camera was back working again......
Long story short, I ended up sale that Galaxy S5 for 450 and used that 450 to purchase my HTC One back from the guy I traded it to so now I have my original M8 back.
M8 is a overall better experience. After using the M8 yesterday at my sons 1st birthday party since he turned one year old, the pitcures tookedn with the M8 look pretty dam good.
Even got compliments while my camera was out by people looking at the view finder as we were taking pictures. Not to mention the UI being 100 percent smooth and I also found the battery to last a whole lot better on the M8 vs the S5.
So thats my 2 cents! Hit me up on twitter if you have any comments or questions. @FiberOpticsRLD
Honestly getting fed up with this bs now. The camera on both the m7 and the m8 is perfectly good and takes good clear pictures. If you want crap hot photos that you can blow up to the size of house, I say go and buy an expensive camera.
This 4 mega pixel comparison bollox is a load of crap. They are ULTRA pixels NOT megapixels. Just like hd and uhd.
After using both phones, I can deffinetly say that both the M7 and the M8 take excellent pic and video in low light conditions.
From what I understand with the pixel count being lower, this allows for more light to be picked up.
i'm switching to the M8 from the S5 as well. S5 is a fine phone but the occasional lag is enough to annoy me.

Yeah, after using the M7 -> Note 3 -> M8 - >S5 -> M8
I started to notice the high quality of HTC not only in the physicall hardware itself being the case of the phone and the screen and loud speakers, but I also started to see how the high quality of HTC Sense is vs TouchWiz. Even when compared to the skin on the LG G2 and other LG phones, the HTC Sense skin is just very light and optimized.
Deffinetly glad I was able to get my original purchased M8 back from Craigslist before it got traded off too far in the Craigslist world LOL.

They are bigger better pixels therefore more light and more detail captured per pixel .

Can you increase the Sharpness of the Note 4

I have a G3 and it has a noticeably sharper image than the Note 4. I know the g3 has a 535 ppi and note 4 a 515 but that isn't much of a difference
The best way to test is download the game called asphalt 8 and run both resolutions to high. The note 4 is filled with jaggies but the G3 is just smooth all the way through
Is it possible to increase the sharpness on the Note 4 somehow?
You shoudnt be able to tell much difference. If I was u I would exchange it and test it in store before u leave.

Well I dont have to do that. I have lg 3 on sprint and note 4 on verizon.
Im using my 14 day trial period to see what is best.
So far the Note 4 in noticeably brighter but the G3 is noticeably sharper, crispier.
Might be some funny business going on with your unit because I have a note 4 and my girl has the g3 and I've done side by side test for browsing and gaming and I find the note 4 to be better all around no jagged edges during gaming or anything. Idk might be that particular game or something
Ok download asphalt 8 on both devices and make sure they are both set to high resolution.
Then do a side by side comparison and you will notice what Im talking about

The note 4 has sharpening set to 0. Where as. The LG G3 is set to max.. To see this difference look at the top of the note 4 at the signal bars and time.. A bit blur compared to the LG but open the gallery on the note 4 ..tap on any picture and slide down the top of the screen to see the signal bar u will see the sharpening is max like the LG ... Samsung set their photo gallery to be sharper that's why .. And the rest of the phone smooth .. I prefer the LG screen but note 4 is still boss

Camera Shootout for NOTE 7/ S7 EDGE.

Hi guys,
I visited phoneareana.com. Recently there was a comparison among note 7, S 7 edge, iPhone 6s plus etc about picture taken by their respective cameras .. A very brief comparison.
After going through that, I don't know I found atleast S7 edge was better in shootouts.
Well I was having a plan to go for note7.and also I have one S7 edge.
But guys has anyone went through all pics? Mainly last sets shows quite a noise in note7..
Please help out.As I'm now bit confused about note7 camera pic quality!!!
Wasn't it confirmed that the Note 7 uses the same camera from the S7/Edge?
Think it's the same camera
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk
Exactly same camera as per hardware specifications revealed. But I believe there is bit of interface difference in the camera.
Well anyone please go through the pics( as I told before) posted in phoneareana.com.
That's why my question is : why such differences?
I was so much eager to have one note 7 along with my s7 edge. But camera!!!..
Guys need more info about its camera quality!!!
Imo it's too early to tell And just post a link to phone arena...
P.S. after watching this video I would say other wise
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oX33IddL4fw
I was in schipol Airport yesterday, they had a note 7 on display without the price. Just had the one. The sales guy like myself had an S7 edge we compared the camera in our phones to the new Note and immediately the new phone seemed much better and brighter with no adjustment on auto mode. I thought bar the HDR video the S7 had the same camera. Must say the S pen is hugely improved and you can actually write your name just like a proper biro.

Well the pics given there ( mentioned in the link) ,mainly the ones taken near the "screen"...Note7 pic is creating some kind noise,if we see bit!!
Might be some different modes,or situation differences while the snap was being taken!but noise there !
But making me confused! Ahhh..wanted to buy that phone!!!
Well anyone help out with that☺..

Switching from Galaxy Note 5 to Mi Max 3. Wise Decision?

Hello Friends,
I am a currently using Samsung Galaxy Note 5. Love the phone EXCEPT the battery. in terms of Screen-On time, It hardly lasts for 3.5 hours. I use my phone a lot and have to charge it 3 to 4 times a day. Moreover, there is no SD card slot and am hanged with 32 GB storage ONLY.
I was in market looking for a new phone by replacing note 5. Things I want in new phone:
a) bigger screen
b) bigger battery
c) Dual sim
d) SD card support
e) Ram over 4 GB
f) Camera with OIS
g) Under $300
h) S-Amoled Screen
Now it ticks many boxes except point F and H. I am huge on camera. I love taking pics and videos. The lack of OIS is sorta deal breaker for me but IF the camera works really well without it, I can live.
Anyhow, I want your suggestions, moving from Galaxy Note 5 to Xaomi, is it a wise decision?
100% wise decision. Order 6gb/128gb variant with xiaomi.eu rom from TradingShenzhen (theirs is the one with least headache and hiccups), and I'll walk you through the process. We have excellent camera and even better quality with camera2api enabled via magisk(root) for Google camera.

I was planning to get it from Dubai. I am visiting there in January. I hope to get it under some deal(s).
You think the price will be even more stable (drop) by Jan?
And by the way, my experience with non-flagship phones has been bizarre. I mean after 1.5 years their parts start failing like microphone etc. I mean companies use really mediocre parts for non-flagship phones.

Dubai is overpriced. I'd avoid the wait and order online and have it in a few days. That's just me. Prices will stay around the same. They've hovered around $300-350 US for some time. No issues with this phone so far. No complaints either from month long users. Xiaomi is on another level. My bro has a mi book pro that is running flawless. It's all in how you care for your products. I would never recommend anything bad to anyone especially if not owning or wanting it for myself. I'm a heavy user from rooted Note 8 to rooted Mi Max 3. Absolutely no regrets.
lol, lot of people even switched their Note FE, note 8 to Max 3 ...

Coming from a Note 4 ( destroyed it by accident) The thing that strikes me most is the good build quality and the brightness of the huge screen. The screen quality also seems very good compared to an amoled screen. Obviously no stylus support on it.The Camera seems good in the light, but needs to be improved in the dark...to much noise. However there are options with the Camera app to have manual control or install the Open Camera app.Screen on time using that 5500mah is also very good....just make sure you've got large hands and large pockets
I was having a Galaxy Note 4 before the mi max 3
Im realy happy with the phone
The battery life is very good , i only got like 5-6 hours screen on time , but please note im using it outside with mobile data , bluetooth gps always on and the sreen is nearly max brightness, the S G note 4 lasted 1-1.5 hours with the same settings / apps
Call quality is good
Camera is way better thn my S G note 4
The eis in the video does a very good job( please check out this video i made with the mi max 3 handheld https://youtu.be/VayuQmvZ-Kw )
The ringtones and notification sound are not that loud as the S G note 4
Size wise its a big and heavy phone but you know what , couple of years ago when i bought my S G Note 4 i said and my friend said the same
