I just purchased a Nexus 4 from google play (super excited), and I now need to restore my S3 to stock in order to sell it to make up the difference. I am hoping to flash the stock rom via Odin using the S3 toolkit, which is what I normally do. I'm just worried it'll trip my flash counter. Is there anything I should be worried about having a tripped flash counter(in terms of OTA)? I know Kies won't let you update without a clean flash counter. I'm just looking for the quickest way to get to stock without it ever looking like i was rooted. Help?
If the flash counter is zero right now, just Odin stock image. Otherwise, use TriangleAway then Odin stock image.

I would like to upgrade my stock (w/ root and wallet) s3, would the following process work?
- reset wallet
- go into recovery, flash jb release
- use a triangle counter tripping flash method for getting root
- use triangle-away
I'm imagining that flashing the new jb stock image will un-root the phone. Is that correct? If so, is there a way to root from clockwork recovery instead of odin, so I don't trip the flash counter?
Thanks!
Hey guys, I know there are a few stock images floating around that can bring you back to stock, but I wanted to put down the steps I used to get back to stock with 0 flash counter.
Just in case you need to return it for warranty work and you've flashed or rooted. This is kind of a beginner's guide to going back to stock untouched.
--Doing this is your own responsibility and I offer nothing but what is in this post.
1. Use Odin to flash the stock rom. Found here -teshxx
2. Now use Chainfire's root without different recovery. Found here -Chainfire
3. Now install triangle away via the play store or apk found at Chainfire's thread and use it. Here -Chainfire
4. Finally Odin again with the stock rom found at step 1.
The idea is that booting with a non stock recovery will trip the flash counter. Also, running a rooted rom will register "Modified" with tmobile touchwiz.
This way you can reset the flash counter and it won't be tripped by a non-stock recovery. Then remove the "Modified" device flag by going back to stock.
I know the faster way to do this would be to catch the reboot after triangle away, but if you can do that, I assume you already are pretty proficient at going back for warranty work.
Also, if and when a stock root injected odin rom becomes available, this tutorial will be pointless.
In my days with the s3, even after using odin to go back to fully stock like in step 4, sometimes it woukd still show modified until I ran a factory reset.
I've read numerous places that when I root my 4.1.1 i747 and install custom recovery, I will increase the flash counter no matter how I load the custom recovery. What I haven't read anywhere is whether or not Triangle Away will work to reset flash counter to 0. Anyone have any success using it?
I'll be loading stock rooted using Odin. Then I'll load custom recovery through ROM Manager since it doesn't really matter how I do it. Then I plan to use Triangle Away to get back to 0, hopefully. Then I can flash ROM's in my custom recovery without ever tripping the counter, right?
Successes using Triangle Away, or any other feedback or recommendations are appreciated!

Yes, I successfully did this yesterday, so flash away.

Triangle away works with 4.1.1 as long as you don't reboot otherwise it will keep the counter at 1 all the time. What you want to do is flash stock ics and go from there. Then you can flash whatever you want without worrying about the counter
Read this its all about triangle away

There is no reason to over complicate things. I was on stock 4.1.1. I loaded the rooted 4.1.1 image using Odin, then used ROM manager to install CWM. Then used Triangle Away to reset counter to zero.
Boom, done.
Hi everyone,
I have a Bell GS3 that I'm going to be selling to pay for a GS4 upgrade. I have it rooted and running Liquidsmooth, I'd like to restore it so it's like it came from factory. I have the I747MVLDLK4_I747MOYCDLK4_BMC file along with the Odin flashing program. I know there's something about tripping a flash counter, is there a way to check if it's been activated and if so reset it? I have an extended warranty on the phone so if the person does need a repair will not have to deal with certain problems.
I'd appreciate any help.
Your flash counter most likely has been tripped. I'm pretty sure the only way not to trip it is to use the root injected odin files. As soon as you install custom recovery and boot into the recovery the counter will be tripped though.
Here is how I have done the process.
Factory reset device.
Install triangle away to reset the counter
boot into download mode to flash stock firmware with odin.
If coming from a cm based Rom I find it best to restore/flash a touchwiz Rom first then factory reset, triangle away, Odin.
Hope that helps

Thanks for the reply. I may be misreading what you posted, are you saying that once it's been tripped there's no way to actually go back completely?
I'll do the steps like you suggested. Thank you.

If you use triangle away before you flash stock it will be the same as it was before you rooted = 0 counter. You can root with the root injected stock images and keep the counter intact. Once you install a custom recovery it will trip your counter.
It doesn't matter to someone who flashes roms if the counter is tripped until you need to sell or return for warranty. Triangle away before flashing stock will reset the counter and give you stock with a clean counter and ready to sell/return for service.

Thanks for the help guys, really appreciate it.
Hello,
Right now I am having MIUI 3.7.5 with BaseBand i747UCDLK3 with KT747 Kernel. I am moving back to stock to sell my phone to the buyer. It has TWRP Installed and binary counters triggered. So, what I need to do reset the binary counters and reflash the stock?
I have downloaded the Samsung-Updates.com-SGH-I747_ATT_1_20121116120521_7p9l4qgqoh from this link
How to flash to stock with ODIN and reset the counter???
Any warnings and cautions?
Just an observation, why not let the buyer decide if they would like the phone already rooted with the custom rom or if they would want it stock, reverting is easy and you'll need triangle away from the play store to reset the counter, which you can do even on the custom rom, and the easiest way to refresh to stock is with mskip's galaxy s3 toolkit it walks you through the steps and has Odin built into it so it launches it for you with clear instructions how to proceed
