Rooting stock 6.1.A.2.55 with locked bootloader - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

I found out new method of rooting 6.1.A.55. For me this method was easier than rooting .50 with bin4ry method and instaling prerooted .55 with cwm.
As always: MAKE BACKUP of Your data
I`m not responsible for bricking Your XPX
Thanx to: Bin4ry for his rooting method
You will need:
newest flashtool
LT26i_6.1.A.2.50_1257-5499_WORLD.ftf from jvsykes
LT26i 6.1.A.2.55 SG Generic (1257-6921).ftf from xdafileserver.nl
attached zip
BASICS about phones by DooMLoRD There also are links to guides to flashtool
Method:
1. Flash (with flashtool) LT26i 6.1.A.2.55 SG Generic (1257-6921) (no need to wipe data)
2. Let it boot, turn on data debugging.
3. Flash LT26i_6.1.A.2.50_1257-5499_WORLD EXCLUDING system.sin. (how to use flashtool:
4. launch Root_XpS.bat (from my zip)
5. turn on your phone and connect it to PC
6. After second reboot completes check for supersu in app list. if is missing - redo from step 4.
7. Flash (with flashtool) LT26i 6.1.A.2.55 SG Generic (1257-6921).ftf EXCLUDING system.sin. (no need to wipe data)
8. enjoy

Thanks , and i hope that will be helpfull for the guys have Locked Bootloader.

can you provide all the tools and flash file links

Sorta tempted to do this, but tbh .55 doesnt really seem to provide anything much new so I think I'll wait.

can i use .50 italian firmware right? anyone please can explain step by step? like turn off the phone...connect cable...etc

I`ve added links to my 1st post. I don`t think, that pasting whole guide from DooMLoRD`s post is necessary

Didn't work for me. It says it can't write files. Read only...

I will give it a try

[Q] tutorial? r800i firmware flashtool 2.3.4??

Is there a tutorial to flash the xperia play r800i to generic 2.3.4?? im currently on a stock play using firmware 4.0.A.2.368 and looking to upgrade to the new 2.3.4 02 uk firmware but it says use flashtool.. which flashtool.. do i need unlocked bootloader? root?? im lost and search everwhere all day long to figure it out lol.. probably looking in the wrong places but it is now getting irritating!
Thanks in advance to any of you willing to answer
You do not need neither root nor an unlocked bootloader to use flashtool.
Get flashtool from here (make sure to use 0.2.9.1 beta):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10738287&postcount=1
Get newest FW here (4.0.1.A.0.283):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17708233&postcount=1
When flashtool is downloaded just extract it to your desktop on your pc. Then extract your downloaded FW and put it in the folder named 'firmware' that came with the flashtool download. Then install ggsetup.exe that also comes with the flashtool download (it's a driver package).
Then hit the x10FlashTool.exe. A window will open. Press flash. Another window will open. Choose your firmware. Here you can choose to tick the 'wipe data' box. If you do you'll loose al apps and data stored on your phone. If you don't the apps and data will stay. In the latter case you might run into issues as FC'ing of apps and such, but not sure as people has done this without issues. It's recomended to wipe data but not a must, it's up to you. I would do it but then again I'm also rooted and can restore easily after every flash.
Anyway either way you choose you then press ok and just follow instructions shown on screen.
Remember after flashing and booting (wich can take some time) to enable debugging and unknown sources.

The answer is yes, but you can skip flashing 4.0.A.2.368 and go straight to 4.0.1.A.0.283 - 2.3.4
Regards Dousan...
currently i`m on 2.3.3 Firmware(the xLOUD Update) with unlocked bootloader and doomlord kernel v3.now i want to flash the latest firmware(2.3.4).whats the best way,i read so many threads here and to be honest,i don`t have a clue how i do it best and i don`t want to brick my phone.
so what`s the best way to get to 2.3.4(2.3.3 is draining battery like crazy,i had 45% battery drain to "mobile standby",can`t stand it anymore,i`m losing 10% battery per hour and i`m doing nothing with the phone,it`s simply in standby,so i want the new firmware)
1)simple flashing 2.3.4 with flashtool?
2)must i relock the bootloader before? can i do this with the doomlord kernel in general?(unlock bl,flash doomlord kernel, relock? would be good to know, than i just would relock the bootloader)
3)if i can flash it with flashtool is the bootloader locked again after flashing?
4)why exactly flashtool, can`t i simply flash with wotan server?
@orangesunshine the easiest way is this (imo):
1. Do a backup of phone apps/data. (Titanium backup/my backup root etc.).
2. Flash 4.0.1.A.0.283 with flashtool. (works on locked and unlocked bootloaders (won't brick it with an unlocked BL).
3. Boot CWM (only boot not flash).
4. Flash rootxperia.zip in CWM.
5. Boot phone and restore from the backup you made and enjoy root.
This will leave you with stock kernel and root.
When doomlord releases his kernel for the newest build (4.0.1.A.0.283) you could just flash that instead of doing step 3 and 4 (afiak it's still in testing phase).

Thanks for making that clear mate, Its kinda hard to follow what the hell is going on with the firmwares for xplay.. theres loads of different ones knocking about, talking about unlocked bootloaders, roots.. etc... Coming from all sorts of differnt android devices which i rooted it seems like a heck of alot of work just to get root..
Ive never had the bootloader unlocked, im using the 2.3.4 firmware, I want to root it, but.. this is where i got confused.. the "how to retain root" posts tell u basically how to "retain" root... if i never had root to begin with is it the exact same procedure?
Got me very baffled lol

If you want root and your on build 2.3.4 you'll need to downgrade to a FW/gingerbread build that has a loophole that makes it possible to use an app like gingerbreak or similar to root your phone through that loophole. That got patched in builds higher than 2.3.2 and therefor you need to downgrade and then root. The opdate done via OTA will only opdate part of the FW and won't touch/overwrite the place where root is placed (afaik). So that's why OTA work and doing it via pc companion/SEUS/flashtool won't cuz these ways you flash the whole FW and erease/overwrite all files on the phone.
You could also choose to unlock your bootloader and then boot CWM (clockworkmod) and when booted in that flash a .zip file that roots your phone.

of course..!!
You can't. .62 firmware has been patched. The only way is to flash an older kernel like .42 I will give you instructions. This WILL remove ALL your things. It WON'T touch your SDCARD. Remember to backup your things using Astro or any other backup files.
Step 1: Head over to WotanServer Website (Google it) and make a new account (IMPORTANT). Then download WotanClient.
Step 2: Follow the instructions on "Phone Detection" Tab.
Step 3: Under New Phone Settings Check Enable Advance Settings. Select your Model (LT15i), Firmware (4.0.2.A.0.42) and CDA (Country) If you can't find your country, use the US version.
Step 4: Under Settings. Under User Settings, enter the account you created earlier. Username: E-Mail Password: Password. Then click Update. Click Next
Step 5: It will download its things and it will flash the downloaded items. If there is any error at any point you MUST do this. Use SE Update Service NOT PC Companion and restore your device. Then re-do the process. Once done unplug and let it boot. Boot will take long. Just be patient.
Step 6: Lastly, root with DooMLoRD Rootkit to root your phone.
Finish. Enjoy.
(Will put the WotanServer Link when i reach 8 post XD)
Follow the guide already listed on XDA
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133650
If you would of search a bit you would of noticed that it's all out there.
Cheers.
this wotan thing takes ages
Not again.

:fingers-crossed: thank domloard for help we have root
[ how-to ]
1.Download the three files from the download section below
2.open FlashTool and flash the C6503_10.3.A.0.423 kernel.ftf - 7.12 MB file, this is JUST the kernel of an older firmware which was rootable
3.now once flashing is done reboot device and connect to PC in usb debuggin mode
4.CLOSE FLASHTOOL
5.extract the file DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v18_perf-event-exploit.zip to root directory on c:\
6.execute runme_ file corresponding to your OS on desktop PC, this will execute a SPECIAL version of my easy rooting toolkit
7.the above step is crucial! if you use any older version of the toolkit then IT WILL NOT WORK!
8.after rooting is over the device will restart
9.you can verify if device is rooted by checking for SuperSU app (it is the newest version)
10.once thats done now power down device and open FlashTool again
11.now flash C6503_10.3.1.A.0.244 kernel.ftf 7.17 MB file to get back to the true kernel for the firmware
12.thats it after flashing is done just disconnect and power on device and enjoy rooted phone!

If what you want is to have full 10.3.1.A.244 stock, then NO, if you follow step 11 you are only flashing new kernel; you need the whole FTF package, to update to new version.
I am uploading just that as we speak; but for C6502. However, it should work fine with C6503 too (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
Actually I've been using a modded C6506 firmware for some days, and it was fine.
What recovery are you using? Link?
Wrked like a charm, thanks a lot mate. :highfive:

Crash338,
I just want to be clear on the steps for rooting with the files you provided:
open FlashTool and flash the part 1 file
now once flashing is done reboot device and connect to PC in usb debuggin mode
CLOSE FLASHTOOL <<< VVVIMP STEP
extract the file DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v18_perf-event-exploit.zip to root directory on c:\
execute runme_ file corresponding to your OS on desktop PC, this will execute a SPECIAL version of easy rooting toolkit <<< VVVIMP STEP
after rooting is over the device will restart
you can verify if device is rooted by checking for SuperSU app (it is the newest version)
once thats done now power down device and open FlashTool again
now flash part 2 file
thats it after flashing is done just disconnect and power on device and enjoy rooted phone!
!!! Please don't flash part1 on its own !!!
(Probably can't, anyways, but don't try =p)
We flash .ftf files. The OP could not post the file directly, due to size limitations on the fileserver. Please download the 2 parts, then *decompress* using, for example, 7-Zip (www.7zip.org)
You will get 1 large .ftf file.
Then flash via flashtool, etc.
Cheers
Edit: typos
Thank you for clearing that up. Next question is what is the second file I flash? According to doomlord's "how to" you have to flash a second file
Edit: my problem was I was using wrong flashtool. I went to sony website and dl their flashtool which kept asking me to ul bl. Now I have a new question as I figured this out but still didn't get root. Did you flash the whole file or did you just check the kernal box during flashing. I checked the kernal only box and got no root. Was afraid of losing data
Hello,
The instructions from the thread below should be pretty self-explanatory.
link here
The idea: old kernel has exploit, but newer ones closed the exploit.
Fortunately, even on locked bootloader, can re-flash older kernel only.. get root.. then re-flash new kernel, and keep the root.
To be clear:
- flash full new ROM (which includes new, no exploit kernel)
- flash old kernel only
- get root
- re-flash new kernel only
(Note: my terminology may be off; the gist shoukd be ok)
Edit: typos, clarification
Thank you, I think I may have done it backwards and flashed all BUT the kernal. DOH!
Woah, didn't check the forum in a little while, thx for clearing up everything spamam1 :good:
Performed tonight and all is as it should be. Thanks for the help

I'm assuming you are trying to root your phone so just unselect everything apart from the kernel when flashing.

[SS/DS]Upgrade/Restore/UnlockBL/Root(Tested on Dual)

Hello guys, I just want to share the steps on how my Xperia M[dual] is rooted and has its bootloader unlocked for about 2weeks dating to this post. I updated my XM to 4.3 and missed the benefits of a rooted android so I found a way to root it(During that time rooting on locked BL was still impossible). But upon searching methods and asking people on how to. I discovered a way on how to root my phone and unlock my bootloader and learned something that will make you feel confident on tinkering with your device.
So basically, Im not pertaining on rooting on this thread but upon reading the steps you might learn something that I also learned
This is for those Xperia M users who upgraded to 4.3 who wants to:
Downgrade to 4.1/4.2 and UnlockBootloader
Root their XM[Unlocked Bootloader][Dual]
Create Firmwares from their own country.
Also to create backups
First. let's assume you are in 4.3(locked bootloader)and doesnt know anything about FTF's and backups and willing to do anything just to install apps that requires root permissions. Just like me
Here are the steps.
1.Make your own 4.3 FTF file from SUS. The FTF from here is for your own country
Here's the guide on how to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-u/general/guide-how-make-ftf-stock-firmware-sus-t2075736
2.Flash a FTF file with lower android version. You can search the appropriate FTF file for your device in Xperia M android development.
Here's the guide on how to:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2697277Step 3 will be focusing on unlocking your bootloader. You can read it (if you want to root) or just skip it (if you're only concerned on backups) and proceed to other steps
3.Root your phone while running in 4.2.2 android version and unlock your bootloader.
Search the forum on how to root 4.2.2/4.1 you need to be rooted to unlock your bootloader. Here's the guide for unlocking BL:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2484622Note: Don't install any kernel for now just stick to stock kernel to avoid issues because we will be upgrading back to 4.3. If you read step 1 you definitely have your own FTF backup :highfive:
4.Flash the FTF file from step 1 and now youre back to 4.3 with UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER, TA-BACKUP, 4.2.2 &4.3 FIRMWARE :highfive:
5.Optional StepThis method is strictly for XM Dual users only, because the kernel in the link provided here is the stock kernel xm dual 4.3 with CWM integration. For XM single users just search you own stock kernel with CWM if you want CWM
Follow the last 2 steps provided here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51559161&postcount=30
By now you have the knowledge on how to fix your own device. Example: If you got bootloop by flashing tweaks or kernels you can just flash your own FTF file to have a fresh start again. :victory:
Proof that I did this also. This is a private conversation of me and ansebovi

2. Flash FTF file with android os running 4.2.2
3. Root while in 4.2.2
4. Back up TA partition
5. Unlock Bootloader
6. Flash the ftf file from step 1
7. proceed with the steps in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51559161&postcount=30
