XDA CSS Problem - Site looks weird - About xda-developers.com

Hello XDA, forgive me if I posted this thread in a wrong section. I didnt see any similar threads regarding my problem or a Help and Troubleshooting section. So Ive got this teeny tiny problem, hopefully its okay.
Im not so new here, but lately, started like 2 weeks ago(?), the XDA forum site (http://forum.xda-developers.com/) on my PC, my phone, my tablet, looks like this.
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
##################################################################################################
Im sure its not my browser(tried IE and Firefox), nor my internet(tried 3 dif places/isp). Tried clearing cache, no luck. I can hardly read well from the threads. Or is XDA forum having problems and/or maintenance or something?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Forum site problem
Try to refresh.
And this doesn't happen to me.
Sorry for my bad English.
Sent from my Nexus 4.

Try changing the site theme at the very bottom left of the page. I doubt it will help but it will at least narrow down the problem.

Wow, that worked great. Im not sure why it was set to XDA 2013 beta. Using XDA 2010 now. Whew. :victory:
Anyway thanks for the reply people.
P.S. you could delete this thread unless its for future reference :highfive:

Glad that worked, but not sure what the issue was. Many people (myself included) use the 2013 theme and it works fine. Any suggestion I have is blown out of the water by the fact you've seen the same issue on multiple browsers and PCs.
Anyway, it's worth leaving in case anyone stumbles across this with the same issue

Hmm.. choices were XDA Classic, 2010, 2013 Beta, 2013 Beta 1024... Just for extra info, the bold one is the broken one. lol. Using 2013-1024 now. Anyway thanks again. :highfive:

This is related to our CDN. I've purged the cache there, can anyone let me know if this now works for them? I've been hearing about occasional problems over the last few days from the Philippines and now China, so it seems to be focused on their edge(s) in Asia.
If it isn't working for you, they could really use the HTTP Response headers from the request. The url to check on is: http://cdn.media.xda-developers.com/clientscript/2013.min.js

I've been having the same problem for the past few days. Also from the Philippines and switching to the XDA 2013 Beta - 1024 theme has also fixed it for me. I'm not sure what to do with the link for getting the HTTP response header though.

Same problem here. The problems started some time last year. I filed a bugzilla bug for this, but no one is actively investigating it. The problem then went away in January (if I remember correctly) and reocurred yesterday. Selecting XDA 2013 - 1024 fixes it. A copy of the content of the site the .js-link produces is on pastebin (expires in one month).
Please look into this - it's annoying the crap out of me! :silly:

I started seeing this same issue today. it only seems to happen with the 2013 beta theme, I switched to the 2013 beta 1024 theme and it works just fine.
I'm located in the UK if that's of any help..

Same problem here; the 'XDA 2013 Beta' theme appears to be broken but switching to 'XDA 2013 Beta -1024' fixes it.
I'm in the UK if it's relevant, maybe a CDN issue?

Same problem here in germany with 2013 beta.

same here. Italy. it has been looking weird for a few days. on 1024 beta now.

Same problem in Germany from my University's connection regardless of browser used. App and other themes work fine.

Can someone troubleshoot this error by looking at the source of the html and checking to see if they can load the CSS file from their location? This looks like it is a CSS problem, but for the few people I have checked with they said they were able to view the CSS. It seems like some sort of issue with our CDN provider but they said they can't see any problems.

Using Chrome (the browser I've been using to access XDA forums for months), I see my request for http://cdn.media.xda-developers.com/css/2013.min.css is answered with a 304 (not modified) status code and 0 bytes of content are returned. If I clear my cache and repeat, I get a 200 (OK) response but still 0 bytes of content are returned.
Same results with wget.
The IE specific CSS file http://cdn.media.xda-developers.com/css/2013/ie.css works fine. Like the main CSS file, it's answered with a 304 status (when cached by my browser) and 200 status after clearing my cache, but the CSS content is returned successfully.
The CDN server cdn.media.xda-developers.com resolves to 68.232.35.229 for me here (UK broadband connection). Maybe that specific mirror has a 0 bytes file?

Similar result here: http://cdn.media.xda-developers.com/css/2013.min.css resolves for me but is empty. http://cdn.media.xda-developers.com/css/2013.1024.min.css resolves and is fine. The same is true for http://cdn.media.xda-developers.com/css/2013/ie.css (resolves, seems OK).

Hi, good with all themes except "2013 beta".

KINdroid(Vermine Droid Clone)

For those of you who have a psp you may know something about Portals. Offline web pages that give you the feel of using a different operating system. Well I've been working on making portals originally designed for the psp compatible with the KIN and then hosting them on a server due to KIN not being able to load web pages from it's flash storage.
I call the project I am currently working on KINdroid. It is based on the verminedroid PSP portal which is a PITA to work with because of the fact that it was programmed in french.
*UPDATE*
Recent changes include:
Fixed Maps link
Fixed calculator app
Added calendar link
Fixed weather link
Fixed duplicate backgrounds on some pages
Changed IM link to ebuddy
Please clear temporary files and cookies to see changes.

Give it a try yourself by going to http://173.89.0.47 on your KIN
Also try the windows phone 7 portal by going to http://173.89.0.47/win7phone/index.html
Use to have a psp, sold it for 50 bucks, modded xbox controller, and alot of other ****. And i had the same idea. All you need is a universal server with that on file so we can use it. Its not that hard. But hey, send me that vermin droid, i dont have it [email protected]
I saw someone also posted something about this portal on the Facebook page.

this is a pretty cool thing you've got going here. i'm not sure how useful it is right now, but it certainly has some potential.
it doesn't display quite right for me though. the background is tiled and everything is really small. i'd imagine it would be a relatively quick fix.
also i would suggest a back button, as the built in one is inconvenient as hell.
if anybody here knows javascript that might be a better option than html. loading each page is sort of inconvenient (especially on my awful internet).

I think making a WinPhone7 portal would suit the Kin's style better.

Like any website, doesnt matter, and it's just html & javascript on the end.
You could do this anytime, but the real problem is always the same. You can't store it locally. If we could do local websites, then a pseudo app could work so well.
But storing it remotely.... not so much improved.

Well, the phone does cache simple sites like google, and I think maybe facebook. I just tested it and it does seem to work with this site as well.

Removing the duplicate images is as easy as adding this code of css:
HTML:
background-repeat: no-repeat;
Why do you need him to send you the files. It's a simple webpage. Can't you just save it through your browser?

Yes, it's a portal, but it's still an html file. It doesn't matter if he's hosting it on a local server. Just because you have to enter numbers in to access it, instead of a domain name doesn't make it any difference. It's just like any normal website.
In reality, the web could function without domain names. The thing is that no one wants to remember a string of numbers.

Tyler, you can simply open it with lets say Firebug plugin and make changes and tell him what changes you made. You don't need to have the entire website to do that.

There's version for Chrome. I use chrome. Everything is fast-n-easy.
btw, for the up-and-above topic, i was reading a games site within a public WiFi site and the cache didn't work when exiting the WiFi range and pressing back, even after passing ~10 pages of comments.
i wouldn't rely on that cache. Well i wouldn't rely on ie mobile in general but, ignoring that.....
Wont work on my KIN TWOm
Im curious does this only work over wifi? I always get a timeout error when I try this. By the way Im fairly new here but have an extensive knowledge of programming. I also was able to jailbreak my kin twom.

Annoying commercials

Hi!
In the recent time, when I surf XDA-forum with my Xoom or Galaxy Nexus, I often am redirected to awful commercial-sites like this one ( http://cat.m.smartphonegirls.de/wwf...n_id=103566ff54dbd160ab06425f95bc91&path=SPOQ), who want to sale stupid things.
The only way to avoid it is to use a desktop UA-string.
Why does XDA support those kind of abo-services, we all know from the media? I have nothing against commercials on the forum, I know XDA needs the money. But not that way, please...

These shouldn't be appearing... Do you have any details about what's causing it to appear? Ie. a particular browser?
Just the stock android 4.0.3-browser, on my Xoom with Tiamat-ROM and on my Galaxy Nexus with CM9.
It only happens on XDA-dev-page, mostly when entering the UCP or a thread. And there are two sites I have seen. The one I posted and some other video-page. I don't remember that name, but will post if I see it again.
And it doesn't always happen, just from time to time.
I have this problem too. Follwing picture appears:

Yes, and if you accidentially would tap "Ja" (= yes in German) you would have to pay 2,99€ per week via your mobile bill, if you haven't blocked mobile payments on your contract (by default it's activated, you have to contact the provider).

I guess there are dynamic commercials, that adjust to the origin you belong to and for.Germans, who have a mobile UAstring, it redirects to.that site... Not very funny...
Just imagine you were showing the XDA-page to s.o. on your phone and then this page pops up. Some kind of embarassing

Any suggestions for a workaround?

I don't know if it's with 3G, since most of the time I'm using WiFi (home, university etc.) so I just can only confirm it happens with WiFi. Anyway, it will most likely be with 3G, too - I simply don't remember that.
I also got that "ad" today ... That ad is not just emberrasing, but if you click it, it will cost you 3€/week and that's horrible!!!
3G (H), Provider: T-Mobile ...
Maybe the transaction_id can help find out more:

(Unfortunately I'm not allowed to post full links )
I'm getting this crap since today... I was surfing on my SGS2 on ign.com when that site was automatically loaded.
I think it's somehow connected to google admob or whatever... I'm also german, it must be connected to one of those
automated advertisments (geolocation) for germany...
It's automatically loading... I can't even check if I clicked on it by mistake because the first time when it appeared I was kinda surprised.

No, you didn't click something. It just takes until the entire site is loaded, then you are redirected. The worst thing about is that you cannot even go back to the page you wanted, because the browser seems to think it IS the page you wanted. If you go back, you.get the page you had before... Not funny...
And yes, I have also recognized it on other pages, but only very, very few, so I don't think it's Google Ads.

That is definitely an Internet Explorer issue unrelated to the site. There are two possible causes. The first is that you are behind a firewall that is blocking the site. The second and most likely cause is Internet Explorer has forgotten how to access the internet (no joke).
I've been working in the computer field for many years and have seen this numerous times. You can have a computer that has IE and any other browser. IE will fail to open sites and complain about not having an internet connection or the page doesn't exist. Any other browser run on the same computer has no issue surfing the internet and accessing the same sites that IE said didn't exist. I suggest trying another browser. (This would also explain why you can see the screencaps)
With regards to providing direct links to the ROM, there is a reason why I do not do that. In addition to my own development work I also host/maintain the archive of all the factory software for the Photon as well as other hard to find software tools. Seeing that donations have stopped completely in this economy the ads on my site are the only way to help pay for hosting costs, even if it's only a very small portion. I hope you understand.
very right up you

Try the stock KPI firmware first and see if you have the same issue. If you have issues with the stock KPI firmware let us know. Then try my release and see if the issues are there as well. Wifi or BT not working in one specific region of the world is hard to troubleshoot.
To other users:
The ROM has had over 200 downloads with close to no feedback. Without feedback it makes it difficult to fix and/or improve. Feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks

EDIT:
Interestingly enough, browsers on the phone work just fine.

It is the same for me. Has been for a few hours now. It must not be broken for everyone... I'd think we would see more complaints.

Yup, broken for me too.

Yes formatting is not right for couple hours on any browser(ff, chrome,IE) or any computer, though it seems some from Europe are not having issues?

That's right. I'm in England and none of my browsers are having a problem.
Here's Chrome on my phone -

Check out this [GUIDE] How to be a New User (and not a noob)
All messed up for me too. I could barely even find the reply button to post this.
It's like that on my Chrome browser in ICS too.
Im getting the same thing, I reverted within control panel to the classic theme and its not horrible but readable. Ive been trying all kinds of things for several hours now. Glad I found this thread..
Anyone know of fix, or is this a known problem? Does the problem only reside within the US? Thanks
XDA formatting has been shot all day for me... I hope it gets fixed!!!!
Thanks!
almost impossible to browse on a desktop right now
Earlier today I started having problems and sometimes moving to the master forum list then going back down to the topic I was reading would get it to work, but anytime I refreshed it would break. Now it's broken constantly. It's almost useless at this point to try and read anything here.
Wow, one minute it looks normal, now it seems to change with every page refresh.
Must be some ongoing editing of the web page at the moment.
I found a temporary fix, if you setup a proxy for your browser the site loads correctly, using web based proxy for now just for xda forums and works
I've been having the same problem for most of the day. Chrome, Firefox, Internet explorer, chrome mobile, Firefox mobile, and HTC stock browser all appear messed up to me. I've had to use Tapatalk all day just to be able to read and post.

If u go to options and pick 'Classic' theme for forum viewing, it makes it use-able

Tried it. Thanks. Web based proxy works fine for both US proxy and Euro proxy!
Weird
Wish I had some reliable proxy settings that weren't web based.
Surfing from my Kindle Fire running cm10 with SGT7 and Jelly Bean
It happened to me when I hit F5 in chrome.
Then I cleared cookies, etc. to no avail.
I jump over to firefox and it's still screwed up.
Classic style is ugly but works. I reverted to 2010 when they changed to 2013. Anyone else? Maybe that's why it's not everyone?

It looks like there's a DNS problem with cdn.media.xda-developers.com (the server that serves up the style sheets)
If you know what you're doing, add the lines
108.161.188.192 cdn.media.xda-developers.com
108.161.188.192 img.media.xda-developers.com

to your hosts file until they fix it.
If you don't know what a hosts file is, go watch a movie and hopefully it will be working when you come back.
(Devs: I know the benefits of a distributed system, but you're going a little overboard with all the hosts)

Well that's what the error message states so yeah.....
OP, this is quite a common occurrence and happens when people choose to host images on less than reputable hosting sites. I'll look through the thread later and take out the offending image.

I'm getting this from just about every link I click on for xda, but the malware listed is different.

This is true. I have browsed several threads and got the same result

Please fix this quickly.
I've gotten the same thing multiple times today.
For me, its on every XDA page that I enter.
But, I keep getting the same malware warning for "security.rltk.us " Doing research on that now.
Update: When I try to go to "security.rltk.us" I get a 403. When I google that malware, all that shows up is results for XDA and another supposedly infected site.

just started getting this same thing earlier today. Wasn't getting it this morning though.
Put adblock from the chrome store on. It clears it up. And you can remove later after XDA cleans up

I'm a little surprised there isn't more discussion of this. I'm far from an expert but poking around the many JS files used on XDA I've noticed some suspicious shellcode in one of the Ad providers scripts. I'm fairly sure shellcode is not a common thing to use for an ad platform so maybe the ad provider has had part of their ad framework compromised? It's strange to see unobfuscated shellcode though, which seems rather lazy for typical browser exploits so this may just be strange/legitimate use of shellcode.
Again, by no means is this a definitive thing, just an observation based on what I understand.
EDIT: Looks like since last night Chrome is no longer reporting malware, so possibly the offending ad was removed? And it would appear the ad provider does intentionally use shellcode, as it's still present in their scripts.
I've flagged this for the server guru to take a look at. Not sure if he's around much the next day or two but it will be looked into folks don't worry.

Was curious myself and just did a little more digging on security.rltk.us. Appears Google Safe browsing has the originating site as blacklisted due to being categorized as "Adult & Pornographic content". No other checkers that knew of it had anything negative and not going to dig much further since 1) It's being addressed by mod and 2) Appears issue is cleared. Likely an ad associated with this domain and the message triggered because of the blacklist?
Per Sucuri SiteCheck the site itself has been blacklisted but clean, and provided a clean security report (warnings found):
Blacklisted: Yes
Malware: No
Malicious javascript: No
Malicious iFrames: No
Drive-By Downloads: No
Anomaly detection: No
IE-only attacks: No
Suspicious redirections: No
Spam: No
Plus it lists other sites that checked the domain and cleared it:
* Domain blacklisted by Google Safe Browsing: security.rltk.us - reference
* Domain clean by Norton Safe Web: security.rltk.us - reference
* Domain clean on Phish tank: security.rltk.us - reference
* Domain clean on the Opera browser: security.rltk.us - reference
* Domain clean by SiteAdvisor: security.rltk.us - reference
* Domain clean on Sucuri IP/URL malware blacklist: security.rltk.us - reference
* Domain clean by the Sucuri Malware Labs blacklist: security.rltk.us - reference
* Domain clean on Yandex (via Sophos): security.rltk.us - reference
Typically the "Red page of death" will come up when someone has linked an image to a hostname that is on the malware blacklist from Google, as conantroutman stated.
If there is an ad causing this (ie, if you see it on more than one thread) then it is possible there is a "Bad ad" being served. These are so customized that likely however much browsing I do I'll never come across it, so if anyone does have this issue and has the ability to determine which script exactly is causing the error, would love to hear it so we can yell at our ad provider.
That includes any shellcode that is being performed by an ad, would be very curious what they are doing.
We are blacklisting security.rltk.us from posting ads, the tough part is sometimes the ad is actually served from somewhere else that forwards to that domain name.
I think it's Google job they hate xda for mods/hacks like 4.2 camera is now blocking(ask to delete download links)

I got this too in the Nexus 7 section a few minutes ago. It was warning about freeimagehosting.net.

It's not Google. It's members who insist on using shady sites to host their photos and stuff. Those sites are blacklisted by Google and that's why the warning comes up.
I'm getting a warning for valid.canardpc.com when I try to go to this XDA page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2483043&page=33
