[Q] dropped phone, now no service - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

after dropping my phone it was fine for a while (got a couple phone calls) and then it lost connection to the network. t-mobile troubleshot and couldnt help. i can use wifi calling fine everything else works (except screen is cracked and black - to troubleshoot i opened up my phone and gf's phone and plugged her screen into my phone) but i got a circle with a line thru it in the status bar. no data, no bars.
what broke (besides the god forsaken screen - see other post on that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2112328)?
i've factory reset the phone and opened it up, poked around, unplugged/replugged the antenna.

Have you tried odining back to stock?

Lol it is stock

Maybe your antennae disconnected from the board.
I can't use WiFi on my g2 after my gf dropped it.
Figured the WiFi antennae disconnected from the board.
A solder gun could fix it.
Or sending it to Samsung

i dont think so, if its happened then wifi calling will not working too.

Doesnt help you voided both of yours and your gf phone by opening them up. Something internally broke im guessing.

warranty? lol i voided my warranty when i shattered my phone on the concrete.
sim card has been in and out several times. no sim card error, and as stated, wifi calling would not work if it was a sim card issue. sim card works fine in another phone.
as i said i unplugged and replugged the antenna (the long wire that goes from the the lower right to the upper right along the edge of the case when looking from the back.)
does anyone know what PRECISELY this is what it does? is this just the radio antenna for calls and data? is the wifi a separate component? and how else might this part have failed? the solder joints look good. i dont think the gf wants me removing her antenna to try it out and of course i would hate to damage her phone.
it really does seem like it's just an antenna issue...

Does anyone think that there is any possibility that having the rear panel removed (not the very outside cover but under that, the one that has screws) has any impact on the phone's ability to connect? there are a few little metal contact points on the plastic panel that touch contact points on the board. what do these do?

[Q] G2 extended battery problem

I bought an extended red battery, and it was working fine until today. I dropped my phone and now the battery will only work for a little bit and then the phone will shut off and not turn back on.
The original battery works fine, no problems. So my question is could my dropping of the phone have done something to the extended battery?
Did you peel the red sticker off? If you did then what's happening is the battery is making contact with the metal sd card holder and shorting your phone. An easy fix, which was already posted in another thread, is to simply put a piece tape on the battery in the same spot where it would normally touch the sd card holder and you should be good to go.

Probably dropping of the phone Idk but I dropped my phone about three days ago and after that it would not connect to signal so I restored to normal and it started to get signal later on but now it is really weak where I would of gotten full bars like my house now I only get 2 bars usually.

i drop my DHD and its wifi dead

yesterday i dropped my DHD, and i realized the wifi stop working. when i turn on the wifi at settings, it just said "error", and wont detect mac address.
thingkng it just rom acting abnormally, i just reflashed over, aaand.. it still the same. so i factory reset, and it still the same. so i came with a conclusion that the wifi hardware must be broken, so i gave a try to 'knock' it and it works!
so after a small knock again my wifi dead again..
i wonder if it possible to nudge the wifi module, but i dont know where the module located,
the service centre said, they had to replace the main board and cost $145, duh!
anybody had tried to work with wifi antenae?
happened to me two days ago
Check to make sure your battery cover is on properly and not loose. I'm pretty sure that is the wifi antenna.

i'm not sure the battery cap has anything to do with this, but i'm pretty sure the battery cap was snap properly.
yeah, i hope someone had the clue how to nudge the antena,
The wifi antenna sits in the battery door, it's the little metal clip you can see in the door when taking out the battery.
You can try to fix yours if it's broken, or buy a new one on Ebay.
Hope it helped.

It happened the same to me, I repalced the battery cover and still no WIFI.
I tried using an APK named "FXR WIFI Fix and rescue" it fixed it, but after a day it was unable to connect again.
Looks like it's time to change my dear DHD
Duh, is it so hard to try for yourselves before giving an useless advice?
I just tried wifi with removed battery cover and it's scanning without giving any error.
gampangingats, if you are using Sabsa, it's still possible that this is a ROM issue, happened to me a couple of times, but system restart (full) always fixed it.
Right. This is a royal mess here, with everyone giving different ideas.
First ensure that both covers (battery door & bottom SIM/SD Card cover).
Then try a rock stable ROM (BlackICE, or something CM7 based is always good)
Then try the rooted stock ROM (search for it, its here somewhere)
Report back once you've done all that..
If not, go to the Ace Think Tank (in my signature) and post there. Resident HW expert Glevitan can help you out)

{Q} Bad signal cycling - bad antenna? repairable?

so i just a got a used s3, probably launch model. very happy with it. only problem is the signal. no matter where i am, as soon as i use the data, it instant drop to zero bars, 100-125 dbm making data unusable.
I've tried troubleshooting it by disconnecting the antenna cable and saw that it made no difference. I would think that if you removed the antenna cable, you would either get no signal or bad. could it be i have a bad antenna cable or the connector on motherboard? or is that the wifi antenna?
any more way to narrow it down or is it a s3/sprint issue etc
Thanks

No I get fine signal so its not a known issue across all s3 but u might have removed the WiFi cable if your signal didn't stop I would suggest trying to use odin to restore to stock again maybe the build your running has issues if that doesnt work i would suggest take it to sprint and show them the issue if they can repair it its free if not they order u a replacement for $30

you think i can get those prices for a used phone? or were those if you got the TEP?

Doesn't matter if u have TEP if for any reason you need a replacement phone while your still in contract and your phone is activated and is not physically damage or water damage then u can get a replacement for $30 unless your screen is cracked which is of course more ive done that with several devices in the past

i bought a note 2.. to repair.. but water damage

hi...guys...
i bought a note 2 tmobile version, it said "to repair" has a bad digitizer etc etc...ok so far...i thought.. i buy a new lcd and it'll be ok.. but the thing in this phone is that i read " battery water damage has been activated" and its like i didnt read it. according to the item description. the phone charge the battery, turn on (the buttons lights up but need a new lcd/digitizer in order to see the display working) and you can see the phone files on the pc.... obiously i made a big mistake here... the question that comes to me: it is possible that the phone still works, (or is there a possibility to fix it), i mean.. a phone with water damage turn on, charge and can it be plugged in the pc? i dont have the phone yet..
It's unlikely to work, but try placing the phone inside of a bag dry rice for a day or 2. It draws moisture out of the phone.
Also, maybe it is only the battery that is damaged, not the phone.
I am unsure about how to fix water damaged phones though. Hopefully you get it working, sorry about your phone

the water marker on the phone is pink but the one on the battery is fine. I bought this from someone as is. All I know is it seems to work. Computer recognized it, charger light works, and menu buttons light up when pressed. Haven't heard sounds from it but I assumed the volume is turned down
It might just be ok man just try to fix it and see

Rice is really poor dessicant. It's better than nothing but if you can get your hands on a good amount of silica gel that would be better. Dell ships their pc's with a big bag of silica gel in the box. Check your local best buy and see if they have any that they pulled from pc boxes that you can have. If not, you might be able to get it at home depot or Lowe's or maybe a shipping store like the UPS or FedEx store.

galaxy note 2 completely dead

Hi I have a note 2 and replaced the screen completely before that the phone was working perfectly. I assembled everything back checked that everything was connected putted the battery tried to turned on and nothing. I also connected to the charger and still nothing no charging doesn't boot up. What could be happening here I double checked everything and nothing is missing if anyone could help me I'll appreciate it
Random guess, but like a computer you could have had static electricity and not grounded prior to working and fried your motherboard
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
man this is scary as I broke my screen on july 4th and is waiting for my replacement screen to arrive. I'm going to try to replace the screen myself. Maybe you broke a wire or something while you were detaching the screen from the digitizer.
Now i'm nervous about doing the screen replacement myself...oh wells, gotta save some money...lol
I think I know why it doesn't work is because I'm trying to use the n7100 screen on my sgh-t889 this version of t-mobile uses the n7105 screen and I bought the wrong one. That's why it won't work

Well, I hate to point out the obvious, but apparently that is not the case.
Did you wear some type of non-conductive gloves when you were doing this? handling circuitry with bare hands is a big no no. It is very possible that you ruined the device simply by touching it.
Here is what I would do (not anything but troubleshooting to pin point a possible problem really):
Warranty the thing.
Good luck.

and it receives 4G? I don't know if that has to do something with the signal but it says in the back 3g so I wanna be sure

maybe a defective part..
How do you know the replacement screen is not bad itself..
have you tried connecting it to the computer and getting into download mode or seeing if the phone is ACTUALLY Working..Also a bad or cheap lcd could have shorted something out if you are sure you did not do so replacing it..
Sorry for your luck but it sounds like you need another note 2 phone for some testing. or RMA THE LCD and try another .
Good LUCK
