I've been following the steps provided here and am stuck at step 8 where I am unable to flash a custom recovery (i.e. CWM) no matter what i do!
I've tried rebooting the computer; resetting the phone and trying another computer but no go. I have s-off and SuperCID (11111111).
I'd like to know what else i should try? What am I doing wrong? Is this a driver problem?
I had issues with flashing the firmware also (actually flashing anything in general), but i just changed my CID to 11111111 and so was finally able to update the hboot (currently 1.39) and software (currently 3.17.728.1)
The error message i get when trying to flash the recovery through fastboot is :
sending 'recovery' (5742KB)...
OKAY [ 0.759s]
writing 'recovery'...
FAILED (remote: not allowed)
finished. total time: 0.970s
I haven't unlocked my bootloader before flashing recovery because i assumed with a s-off HOX you didn't need to?
Please i need some advice as the ROM I started with (ARHD) is wiped out!
Remote not allowed is an error that pops up indeed when the bootloader is locked, just unlock it via the HTC dev site and flash again.
And your assumption is right but it does not seem to work in your case.
Yeah. With S-OFF, you can probably set it back to **LOCKED** state when needed.

Of course It's that simple! :s

Ok I'll try that right now, cheers.
Thanks, but no touch on ARHD 18.1
Thanks for that, it all worked out But I had the same issue that some people have with the touch screen not working, at all!
So I've just flashed the very first nandroid backup listed here since my original CID was HTC_023 and am now running on a stock android 4.1.1 Sense ROM.
It seems to be a problem with HTC_023 devices. These two threads (1) (2) discuss this issue further if anyone is interested.
So far there seems to be no progress in getting a custom ROM working with touch according to them, i think?
Odp: [Q] I can't flash CWM recovery on s-off HOX, advice?

Hi guys,
Hoping someone can help, have bricked my Australian Optus stock One X. I have tried to follow all threads related to loading stock or custom roms from fastboot and am unable to. I still have CWM recovery 5.8.2.7 touch installed.
I had previously rooted it and installed Android Revolution HD 5.1.0 and seemed to be fine but was unstable and would crash and reboot in certain apps. In trying to revert back to stock I stupidly formatted the SD card, DUMB ASS!
I have downloaded stock rom 1.29.401.7-DUO, all-in-one rootkit, and the ARHD ROM and have tried to either:
1) flash ARHD with bootloader still unlocked, doesn't work
2) follow reflashing stock process ie flash stock recovery, relock bootloader, then flash stock ROM, and am getting stuck on just reflashing the stock recovery. When I try to open stock recovery it takes me to a black screen with a red ! in a triangle, this is with the bootloader relocked.
If anyone is able to help an enthusiast noob like me I'd be very appreciative and would also be more than willing to donate for the trouble.
MAKE SURE you have exactly the right RUU for your phone, whatever the rom was on you were using, ie, 1.26, 1.28, 1.29, you need the same version of RUU, i discovered the problem trying to flash RUUs and after 2 days finally got the correct one, thats when i realised, unlike on other phones, you cant downgrade the One X and when recovering it seems to prefer the one that matches what you were using.
Also make sure youre cid is supported in that RUU, ie, HTC 001, TMOB 054, etc etc, mine can only accept 401 roms, so they must match exactly, until we can get S-Off this problem will remain, dont worry about recovery, so the guide on in case of disaster, you cant go wrong with it, relock your bootloader and get your RUU installed, from their update it to your latest ics version and then if you must reflash your cwm and root it.
Thanks for the info, graemeg. After downloading an RUU that was .exe file, I felt I was getting closer, as it was an AU Optus RUU. But it turns out that my current version is 1.28.980.10 and the RUU version was 1.26.980.3 and so yes I met with the non-downgrading issue.
It seems that there is not currently a stock 1.28.980.10 RUU at the moment, so might be using this as an ornament for much longer than I would have hoped/thought. Bummer.

You can get 1.28.980.10 from htcdev downloads. I would link but I'm a new user, just filter by One X, Optus, and it's there.
Thanks again for the help. I have seen those files on htcdev website, but don't know how to use them
I don't know how to load a RUU that is not a .exe file...if anyone is able to assist, again, I would really appreciate it and will donate once up and running again.
Edit: I just wanted to add that I have tried to follow the thread that explains how to load/flash recovery and boot images via fastboot in command prompt, and have not been able to. So I don't think I'm a complete dumb ass, but do need someone with the knowledge and patience to guide me through it. Please!
First thing first, do you have the right RUU with you ?
If not, maybe this is the one for you : http://hoxroms.serveftp.com/RUU_END...Radio_1.1204.103.14_release_258004_signed.exe
second: do you have fastboot directory set up on your pc ? and htc usb driver too ?
Just starting the download now, I think that could be the RUU I've been looking for. Yes I have the drivers and fastboot directory. Will give this RUU a go and let you know, thanks for the quick reply, ckpv5!
Most important before you run the RUU, you need to:
1) have a stock recovery flashed to you your device first (I believe you already have one)
2) relock the bootloader - fastboot oem lock
3) run RUU, it should work.
THANK YOU!
ckpv5, thank you for the link to the updated RUU. Phone is functioning again, stock. Donation coming your way. Thanks for all your help. agentorange82.
Hi, I have been the happy owner of an international HTC One X for just over a month now. I'm from Australia and my carrier is Vodafone.I have been using the Lee-Droid One Xtreme Rom without issue for almost the entire time I've owned the phone, however two days ago some huge issues appeared.
First the handset resest itself, this had happened before but this time it was stuck on the "HTC Quietly Brilliant" splash screen. I tried to wipe the cache from recovery but recovery wouldn't boot. I plugged the phone into my laptop and used "fastboot erase cache" which seemed to work but did not solve my problem, still hanging at the splash screen.
I then noticed that my bootloader had somehow locked itself again so I flashed my Unlock_code.bin again, the handset displayed the usual prompts which I followed but when my phone reset I was greeted with the now familiar hanging bootsplash plus a warning about the ROM being for internal HTC use only.
I also noticed this message in my terminal:
FAILED (status read failed (Cannot send after transport endpoint shutdown))
Can someone please help me here? I'm hesitant to send the phone away because I unocked the bootloader via htcdev.com so my warranty is invalid most likely.
Thanks for your time and sorry if this is a duplicate thread, I had done a few searches already and found nothing that spunded like my problem though.
Did your bootloader say locked or relocked

last recovery I flashed CWM 5.8.4.0
have tried restarting pc, no change.
i use linux so there are no drivers to reinstall.
none of the cables i have fit, but this is the original htc cable, it seems to be in decent condition, i'll try and see if i can borrow one from a friend though.
sorry for taking a while to reply to you guys, i've been having login troubles with the xda site. thankyou for your help thusfar. any ideas?
Try closing and opening bootloader again, then flash recovery if not working properly. Has to do with usb ... I think ..not to cable. Then tell us

hi, sorry for taking so long to reply, i have been having some major troubles with both my computer and then getting enough charge into the phone. i ended up writing this script:
Code:
#!/bin/sh

do
./fastboot getvar battery-voltage
./fastboot reboot-bootloader
sleep 10
done
writing from a different pc with a fresh linux mint install i've tried unlocking the bootloader again but this time i'm getting this from the terminal:
Code:
./fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
sending 'unlocktoken' (0 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.009s]

what do you think? i bought a second usb cable and have been switching between the two but it makes no difference... i can't flash recovery because the bootloader is locked and i seem to be stuck in a bootloop so i can't boot into CWM either.
i've been reading about people flashing RUU's, is that what i need to do?
Just a gentle bump on this thread, I've been without a phone for over a week now and it's getting pretty annoying (first world problems). Has anyone seen this before? What should I do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Toby.
RUUs
So I'm looking into the possibility of flashing an RUU, what are my options for doing so under Linux?
I've found this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465747
Has anyone used openRUU? Does it work for the HOX?
The only other option I can see is making a Windows virtual machine... My only concern is installing the drivers, will that work seeing as I can only access fastboot?
Also I'm not sure exactly where to find an RUU... I've checked out this link: http://www.filefactory.com/f/7cc7b2fbdd03c031/
but my RUU (1.29.862.11) wasn't there and I've struggled to find a download elsewhere....
any clues?
Any help would be devoured thankfully.

The RUU doesn't do anything fancy, it just packages the boot.img, recovery? and ROM, and uses the same method we would use to flash the bits individually.
If there is no RUU for your version, I hope you took the advise of making a backup.

Thanks man!
So I've set out on a mission and made a Virtualbox Windows XP install, installed the sdk and HTC sync, configured the usb settings, and the virtual install seems to be able to detect my handset in fastboot.
Good times.
I was able to run all the fastboot commands I wanted, including "fastboot oem get_identifier_token" which wasn't previously working on the Linux side and now through some kind of voodoo works a charm under Linux too. After running this command I visited the htcdev site and requested a new Unlock_code.bin but that didn't work, still getting FAILED errors...
One thing I have noticed is that every time I run "fastboot oem get_identifier_token" I get a dramatically different token, wil this result in a different Unlock_code.bin? Maybe one of the will work eventually (doubtful).
On the other hand it seems that I've got everything ready to flash an RUU, I just need that RUU... So does anyone know where I can find it?

I've read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_One_X
and flashing the RUU seems to be the only way to go seeing as my bootloader is locked and won't unlock. Becuase you flash RUUs with a locked bootloader right?
I've read about vodafone releasing this RUU so I'm pretty sure it exists, I'm just not sure how to get it.
I did make a nandroid backup of the stock rom, is it possible to flash that?
I don't care how much data I lose, so long as I get a functional telephone in return.

Hmmm, so you were unlocked but.now it won't unlock? Odd.
With a stock recovery, you should still be able to flash signed ROMs, perhaps not your backup though.
If it's not on filefactory, it's probably not widely available. Google is your friend, I guess.

yeah, weird huh?
forgive my ignorance but what exactly is a signed rom?
i'm not sure what recovery i've got at the moment, last one i flashed was CWM 5.8.4.0 but that won't boot anymore.. do i need recovery to flash my backup?
in my backup i have a boot.img, recovery.img the md5 sum and a few tarballs (cache, data, system), if i flash recovery.img will i get the stock recovery? or do i need an unlocked bootloader to do that?
and if i get stock recovery what can i flash from there with a locked bootloader?
you were saying that an RUU does the same things as flashing the components individually, but also you say that i might not to be flash my backup, so i'm a bit confused.... n00bdom......

A signed ROM is an official one from HTC, signed by their private key. The CID also has to match your phone. Then the standard recovery will allow it to be flashed.
I find it strange that you are locked.with a nonstandard recovery. I think you should get back to unlocked before proceeding.
Try unlocking your phone from scratch using the normal procedure.
Why doesn't that work? What stage fails? What error do you get?

I've tried this numerous times, everything works right up to the final stage. My device is recognised by fastboot, I can get the identifier token, flash the Unlock_code.bin, it writes to the handset properly, the handset displays the black screen with "yes" and "no" options and the warnings about voiding your warranty, i choose "yes" and the phone reboots into fastboot while the terminal reads like so:
Code:
writing 'unlocktoken'...
(bootloader) unlock token check successfully
FAILED (status read failed (No such device))
that's under Linux, in my Windows XP virtual box it reads the same except the final line is:
Code:
FAILED (status read failed (Unkown error))
I've tried this on two different PCs, one running arch linux, another on ubuntu 12.04, also on a fresh install of Linux Mint 13. I've tried every different usb port available and I've tried generating different Unlock_code.bin files - nothing seems to work.......

This may have something to do with my udev rules, these are the ones i'm currently using, I can't remember now where i found them but they govern how the OS handles certain devices. Here's my /etc/udev/rules.d/51-android.rules

does anyone with some linux knowhow see anything wrong with them?

If you are sure the RUU that you need is 1.29.401.7, you can find it here at http://htcruu.com/?dir=Endeavor
But I recommend go for the latest version 2.17.401.2 because when you installed 1.29.401.7, the system will prompt you to OTA update to the latest.
So, just relock the bootloader in fastboot mode - fastboot oem lock
then again in fastboot mode, run the RUU
Thanks to both of you :good: I was a bit worried when relocking the bootloader I got a message from CMD: ... INFOLock successfully... FAILED (status read failed (Too many links)) but the RUU installed fine (fastboot said security warning under the relocked-message). I'm going to RMA my phone because of the backlight flickering and the bottom of the screen is getting loose from the body. One final question, do I now have the phone 100% ready for the RMA (I mean, is the software now fully stock)?
Yep... it is now 100% stock except the relocked status instead of originally locked. So it depends on your luck at HTC centre.
On my past experience with other htc phone, no problem for RMA.
Hi,
I have a very urgent issue and I need your help.
I have a M9 which had Android Revolution 16. Wifi was not working, wrong MAC address (02:00:00...)
Well I tried to reflash it, and somewhere along the way I must have screwed something up.
I tried to flash Venom...error.
I tried stock RUU - 0PJAIMG_HIMA_UHL_L50_SENSE70_HTC_Europe_1.32.401.15_R1_Radio_01.01_U11440261_56.02.50306G_2_F_release_426891_signed
Also error - i belied the MID and CID are ok 0PJA10000 HTC__001
Phone is S-ON
Before that I followed a tutorial in which is was described to lock the bootloader.
Well, here it f. everything up.
Recovery is not working anymore and I cannot flash it recovery and RU_SECURITY_FAIL bootloader isn't bl_unlocke
I installed the unlock-code.bin, successfully
Still same issue.
Bootloader shows UNNOWN, Download mode shows still locked.
What can I do?
I have now TWRP, issue was because of the used fastboot soft.
Now to install a new rom...
I installed three different roms, wifi still fails to load.
I cannot install venom, Error status 7 (it fails at busybox)
Do you think I can resolve the wifi issue if I go S-OFF and flash the RUU in the first post?
Thank you.

The problem is the recovery. Incomplete/corrupt/rogue. Redownload and check its md5 + file size. Flash if it is correct.
If you have the same issue find another twrp.
S-off is probably the best investment you can make for your m9. It perplex's me why people only choose to root and then flash custom roms knowing it isn't the full access they are looking for.

Hello;
So, i got a HTC M8 On 6.20.531.5, and currently is is S-ON with Unlocked Bootloader, sadly, each time the battery dies, the settings reset, i do know this is a problem with this device, but i read that flashing another rom might fix it.
So i found ViperRom and Xenon HD, already got a Nandroid Backup, however, yesterday i tried to flash the same RUU that the device is currently. 6.20.351.5, and it got stuck at Sending,
<T103747><DEBUG><OUT>sending 'zip' (53953 KB)...</OUT>
after that, nothing happened so i re-unlocked the device and everything was the same, TWRP was there, among everything.
My questions are:
What do i need to do, in order to flash the RUU without issues?
What do i need to flash the RUU correctly?
Is there a fix for the "Reset Issue"?
It also happens once the device is turned on agian after a battery drain, it always get the "Sense has stopped working + Gapps has stopped working", so i always have to factory reset, is there a known fix for this?
Flashing a Custom Rom, do i need to flash first boot.img then flash the rom via TWRP? or i can do it all on TWRP?
Can i flash the RUU in case something happen on the Custom Rom?
Can i flash the Same RUU that the device is currently on?
Will tag @redpoint73 since i have seen that you are pretty much on the HTC section those days.
Sorry I am just now responding. Was out of the country for work, and working 12+ hours a day (and therefore not on xda).

Pretty sure you mean 6.20.531.5, and the above is just a typo.
I am confused about why you are trying to RUU, if you intend to flash a custom ROM. The 2 things do not really have anything to do with each other. Fastboot flash TWRP, make a nandroid backup (which you did) then flash the custom ROM.
<T103747><DEBUG><OUT>sending 'zip' (53953 KB)...</OUT>
This doesn't look right. Are you trying to use adb to flash the RUU zip? Post your entire set of commands, so I can take a look. If you are trying to flash by adb, that isn't correct, you need to use fastboot, and the htc_fastboot version at that. I can give more details. But I'm not even sure RUU is what you really need to do (per my response above).

What do i need to flash the RUU correctly? Already addressed this above.
Is there a fix for the "Reset Issue"? I never suffered this issue personally. Haven't dug too deep into it, myself.
It also happens once the device is turned on agian after a battery drain, it always get the "Sense has stopped working + Gapps has stopped working", so i always have to factory reset, is there a known fix for this? Same response as #2 above.
Flashing a Custom Rom, do i need to flash first boot.img then flash the rom via TWRP? or i can do it all on TWRP? Never need to flash boot.img separately from the ROM. Folks need to stop implying or thinking that you do. This never applied to the M8 (only to older HTC devices).
Can i flash the RUU in case something happen on the Custom Rom? You can. Or just restore the nandroid you made of the stock ROM. Which is the reason you made the nandroid in the first place, right?
Can i flash the Same RUU that the device is currently on? Yes. That is the only one that will work. "Newer" RUUs are typically allowed. But for the M8, there are no newer version RUU (since device is EOL). So like I said, that RUU is the only one that will work.
Will tag @redpoint73 since i have seen that you are pretty much on the HTC section those days.
