Is anyone having issues with wifi speeds on the newer roms? I've tried several of them and my wifi has been terrible. I have 18 mb at home, computers and laptops confirm this via ethernet and wifi, but my phone can only do about 3-4 at its best, right next to my laptop. Been using speedtest.net app on my phone and computers. Any ideas or anyone having the same issue?

the issues i have with Cleanrom 4.0.5 is that after a few hours or so, not really sure, my wifi literally slows down to lower than 90's dial up speeds. I just have to do a quick off/on with wifi on the phone and it is back up and at full speed. I just checked and have about 24 mb download and 41mb upload on Frontier fiber optic. My Macbook says I have 35 mb download and 18 mb upload. Who the hell knows what it is really
Well I'm not sure why you're having issues. But I haven't experience any slow speeds on my Wi-Fi! But I also have only been on Jelly Thunder Rc3, with no problems. And RC4 is out now! Recommend it..

Make sure your router isn't set on auto channel. Us WiFi analyser to check your area for other routers and the channel they are using. make sure your router is set to a WiFi channel that isn't being used by someone else. That will help. Since over lapping WiFi channels increase latency on WiFi networks.

I have the same issue. Toggling wi-fi solves the issue for me.
I'm having this issue also. I'm stock though. Toggling wifi resolves it for a few hours.

I just upgraded to a rooted Stock Froyo release (3.26.651.6) and while the 2.0.5-pre07 Android tether works, I don't seem to get the good download speeds when I connect my laptop to it.
So the tether application shows speeds of 4-5 Mbps on the phone screen, but when I wirelessly tether to it and run a speed check on my laptop, i barely get 1Mbps, sometimes even around 500kbps. In fact this problem was even worse when I was on the earlier Android release on the phone. It has improved since the Froyo upgrade, but is nowhere close to the speeds that I would like
Any ideas if this is normal? Or am I missing something here?
what speed test are you using?
I know when I was rooted with 2.1 I was getting around 5-6mbps when using wireless tether with my laptop
2.2 opened rooted 2mbps usb tether 6mbps

I get anywhere from 2Mbps to 6.7 Mbps depending on location. (that's on 4g)
I'm seeing the same thing as darth. Speed tests (the speakeasy one) gives anywhere from 5 to 10 mbps on my phone but on the laptop its around 1 to 1.5. I wonder if encryption has anything to-do with it, I run the WiFi tether app on wpa2 aes with a not-so-short key. Maybe the encryption and the heavier processing slows it down? I'll test without encryption and post the results in a couple of hours.

The funny thing is if I share my internet connection using USB on 4G to my laptop, the speed is around 5 Mbps. So the slow speed is isolated to the wireless tether app and across all devices I connect to it.
On 3g with wifi tether pre7 i just did 1.7 meg down, and 0.34 meg up.

Yes, I tried again without encryption and that does not seem to be the slowing factor. 4g tethered using WiFi tether app gives 1mbps download and 200k up. On 3g, the tethering app gives 250k download and 20k up.
When I do the same speed test directly from the phone, it shows 5mbps down and 1mbps up on 4g, and 500kbps down and 50kbps up on 3g. So its definitely the app. But since this is a preview, I'm pretty sure the devs will get around to fixing it before too long.

After I start up Wireless Tether it will download for a while up to around 8 MB then just stall out and not let me download anything else.
I am in 3G roaming and have almost full bars.
What is the deal?

I think I am having a similar issue. Using Toast 3.1.0.1 with the pre.7 tether. Not sure about the 8 MB limit, seems to drop the wifi connection to my laptop very easily.
Need to find out if the tether release has been updated...
Wireless tethering would drop a lot for me with pre7. I finally determined that there were several other wifi networks in my area that were using channel 6 (the default for many devices). Pre7 has a bug that doesn't let you change the channel from the front-end interface. I modified the tether.conf file using root explorer to change the channel to 1 and I don't get disconnected now. Pre8 should be released in a day or 2 with the channel change bug fixed.

I'm hoping someone may be able to help me with this little issue I'm having. I'm running stock EB13 Froyo on my Epic currently. The issue I'm having is that for whatever reason my web browsing speeds while I'm at my house are pretty slow. I've downloaded the speedtest ap and ran 3 seperate tests last night with the following results:
D/L 14.01 Mbps U/L 1.89 Mbps
D/L 14.73 Mbps U/L 1.88 Mbps
D/L 14.13 Mbps U/L 1.82 Mbps
Needless to say, pretty solid speeds. For whatever reason though, when I'm web browsing it seems to crawl along while loading pages. My router is a Linksys WRT610N and I'm broadcasting in B/G/N. My wife's laptop runs on wireless N without any issues, and I've also got a Linksys wireless N gaming router that I've got hooked up to my WDTV that I'm able to stream 1080p DTS files without any hiccups.
Whenever I'm web browsing outside of the house, whether it be 3G/4G or Wifi the pages load up much faster, so I know it's some sort of setting that I need to configure on my home router. Anybody have any ideas?
I'm using Dolphin Browser HD if that helps at all. Thanks in advance for any help or insight!
Same problem except I'm also getting page could not be displayed. This new update has made WiFi virtually unusable. Either it doesn't work or it's slow.
What GHz band are your routers broadcasting in?
my phone does the same thing as well. I get alot of page cannot be displayed as well.

The 610N is dual-band, but the Epic only supports 2.4ghz.

I have a netgear router and only broadcast wireless N at 2.4 ghz. I'm sure with you broadcastin multiple routers you are getting interference. Also I re boot router once a week to make sure everything is synced up nicely. I'm a black ops gamer.

Encryption type is sometimes a big issue with devices. Also router channel. Since speedtest shows good speed it seems smaller packets with browsing is issue... likely having many retries

I echo the question. Since the OP is connecting his Epic to the 610N, we can assume it is using one of the 2.4GHz channels. Is the gaming router also 2.4GHZ?
There are only 3 non-overlapping 2.4 GHz channels (1, 6, 11) The others overlap with these 3.
If the OPs routers are using channels 4 & 6, for example, they would definitely interfere with each other. You also need to be concerned with strong signals from neighbors interfering.
Yes, I am a wireless engineer
One thing I have noticed. Is that if utorrent is runing on the LAN (wired) the Epic does not work vary good. Its not that the torrents are hogging all the bandwith. I had it throttled to 100KB max connections was 50 I tryed 40 45 44 I have it at 35 right now.

Any how i got out my 610N out and was having the same problem. With the xda app sucking over wifi & not working fast and other SLOW wif crazy problems.
I found a FIX & its a NO BRAINER do a 30/30/30 HARD RESET
When I try to use my wifi connection at home its really really slow. Sometimes it just loads part of the websites or some other it doesnt load at all and I have to refresh it several times so it loads. I also have an iphone and a laptop which dont have this problem at all. Theyre working perfectly fine with my wifi connection.
This only happens with wifi, on 3g it works fine. I havent been able to try more wifi networks to see if this only happens with mine

It also could be a WiFi issue. I was having WiFi issues with my GNex also that I thought was the phone until I started tweaking my Router settings. Some devices are more forgiving to certain routers. In addition some devices Roam to different AP's much better than others.
I have 2 WiFi AP's in my house to span covereage across 2900sqft. I found that my WiFi was just conflicting with each other causing issues with speed and connection so this is what I did.
My Modem is a TWC Wireless Modem - WiFi turned off.
Router 1 Linksys E4200 is Bridged to TWC Modem it is dual band so I have the 5ghz band set MyHomeAP in mixed mode with a 40Mhz Spread, using 36 as the Channel. The 2.4Ghz band is set to MyHomeAP-N in N only mode with a 40mhz Spread and 11 as the channel. I need a seperate SSID here because it was causing conflicts and I needed a 2.4ghz connection upstairs for my Transformer Prime Tab since it does not support 5ghz radios.
Router 2 Netgear WNR300L with DD-WRT loaded is downstairs on the other side of the house. It is a 2.4 ghz router which I have set to MyHomeAP with a 20mhz spread set to channel 1. This allows my devices that are 5ghz compatible to Roam between each AP without conflicts.
So with all that I am now getting 45 mbs WiFi when I am upstairs and connected to the Linksys and 21 mbps downstairs when I am connected to the Netgear downstairs. The Tab is getting a consistent 15mbps on each router which is acceptable for me. This is an improvement from getting 3mbps anywhere in the else regardless of the closeness to the router or the device being used. I'm now able to maximizesmy use of the WideBand service which gets about 52 mbps on a wired connection most of the time.
The GN has lots of issues with different network gear and a lot of it can't be solved by tweaking. Seems like I've heard the most success stories with netgear. I'm using ubee and trendnet and my wifi isn't great. I get between 5 and 20 mbps and its choppy with a lot of disconnects.

You always have to be careful using multiple Wireless routers in the house, because if they are not setup right you will get consistent disconnects and low speeds. Same thing was happening to me until I really digged in and configured my multiple routers correctly. Check my previous post on how I solved my router issues.

Just one router, the time warner ubee docsis 3.0 modem/router. The rest are trendnet APs at 1,6,11. All with same ssid and security. No interference as checked with wifi analyzer. The wifi just sucks. Not much more you can say except try different gear which shouldn't be necessary. All of my laptops etc work great.
I tried my gnex on other wifi network and it worked well. I tried it again on mine with negative results. Idk what could be wrong, all other devices i have, 2 laptops and 1 iphone work well

Now that LTE has been accessible in my neighborhood Id like to try and play BF3 while on my tethered network.
However, Tmobile only allotted me 500 mb per month complementary. I still tether, but only with user agent switched.
Now when I go to play BF3, in battle log it says my computer must be windows vista or above. So its reading the user agent and not letting me play =[
any ideas?

Wow. I get 50mb down 10 up and TV for 50 on xfinity. I did use tether when the internet went down for around an hour because there was a really bad thunder storm and it messed with their signal. It was pretty good. My Nat was moderate though. And I only tried it on BO 2

I've had LTE in my area now for a month or so I would say. Used it the other day to tether my PS3 while I played Black Ops 2. Connection was great, NAT was open I believe, and my connection in the game was always green with 4 bars and zero lag. I eventually hit the free 500MB tethering limit with T-Mobile and upgraded to the 4GB option. It's good to have in a backup situation when the power goes out or I lose home internet.
If you're rooted you can try Wifi Tether:

I play BF3. The problem will be latency, not bandwidth. From what I've read using wifi tether no on has had a problem yet. Not sure how you're lag will be like. Try it out and let us know if it's playable.

Sorry for the late reply, i dont use wifo tether. Tried that and got some very strange cut outs when doing speed tests.
Usb tethering gives me constant speeds. I spent a good month toying with wifi tethering using different adapters and they all had the same results (even an expensive 5ghz 500mbps wireless ncard would give me inconsistent signal.)
I am rooted but didnt have the tethering mod installed until my 500 mb free ran out. Hoping that when it comes back next month i can try to play bf3 again.
