help needed!!! restoring desire z - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i rooted desire z after downgrading it to 2.2 using xda wiki method....after it installed cynogenmod 9 unofficial...
all went ok
now pressing power button gave three options one of which is recovery i accidently selected that and the phone went back to 2.2 and superuser etc apps also removed...its restarting too...
i want to restore it to android 2.3 htc original non rooted...how can i do so...????please help on this...

A couple things here, how do you know you are unrooted and running 2.2 if you're stuck in a boot loop? Can you boot into hboot? If so can yo write down everything on that screen? Can you boot into recovery at all? What if you remove your sdcard? Like someone said in the other post you had did you leave a pc10img.zip on sdcard?

By choosing recovery from advanced menu option shoundt cause an issue, and definetly won't bring you back to stock froyo, something else happened, can you remember? Can you get into the os at all?

i hadnt selected anything from advanced menu...i selected recovery from one of three options that come pressing power button when phone is on...and yes i can get into os...but restarts aftr a while....

That's what I meant, selecting recovery from within the power menu options will not cause an issue and will not cause your phone to unroot itself and jump back a few OSs.
So some other key info is missing, if you don't recall or don't know what it is that's fine. Can you boot into your bootloader and write down everything on that screen here. Also try to turn on debugging and use adb to reboot into recovery, tell me what happens

It doesnt say that in Amon Ra. I had the same "problem" and wasnt sure on my first radio-flash if it was a good idea to reboot, because everyone kept telling me, that I mustn't touch the phone until its finished - but Amon RA never actually tells you that it finished a radio flash, it just stops in recovery, where you have to hit 'reboot'. (I always wait another 2 mins or so after clearing cache is done, just to be save)
ususally it will have an information that the flashing has completed than it would finish the installation when you hit the reboot now menu

Hold the top power button and most roms will have a Reboot option, click and go down to recovery, if it doesnt have it, then turn off phone, hold volume down button and power at same time, when bootloader pops up scroll down to recovery and hit power and your in recovery.
make sure you wipe cache and dalvik cache.

So, when you're in bootloader, and select recovery, what does it do ? What recovery were you using, amon or clockwork? You said 4g isn't working? What's it do ? Did you backup your rsakeys, or use amon ra to make nand backup? Let me know.

go to Amon-Ra thread in development. Download his image file, put on the root of your SD card, boot into bootloader, when it asks if you want to flash, accept(vol up I think) then let it flash and try and boot into recovery again.
If you are using ROM manager, you can try to flash a different version of Clockwork. That worked for me.

Or, IMO, use ROM manager to flash to Amon RA.

Amon-Ra is a much better recovery than Clockwork. Seems to be less borked and less issues than clockwork.

Unless you backed up before flashing, you probably lost rsa keys. Have fun trying to get em back. Now find a way to get a recovery. Go to amon's thread and there's instructions on how to flash it using terminal emulator
A drop of Chuck Norris's semen was placed on Android OS. We now have CyanogenMod.
Mine did the same thing, not being able to boot to recovery... somehow I guess the recovery image got corrupted... I just used ROM manager to flash Amon Ra (by clicking "flash alternate recovery") and it booted right into recovery....
As for the no-4g.... not good
Ok I do some reading and I got ny 4g working and I know way more then I did before this ...thanks guys for the help ....

[Q] I cannot seem to restore my nandroid back up

I have a Telus DHD and I just temprooted the phone and installed clockworkmod 3.0.0.5. I did a nandroid backup and when I go to restore the it after trying out several roms, it won't boot past the HTC screen. I tried starting over and installing the stock Telus rom and nandroid backup again and restore and still the same thing. Does anyone have this problem?
I'm not 100% sure but I think the problem is the CWM version. Did you make the backup with CWM 3.0.0.5?
You need permanent root and s off (I recommend eng s off).
Follow the guides in the development section.
Also try a non 3 series clockworkmod recovery if you're using a 2.2 rom.

how would i change the rom manager if i cannt boot the phone passed the htc screen please help
Ok. Don't worry, this can be repaired.
First you need to see if you can reboot into recovery.
Take the battery out and restart the phone by holding volume down and power. This will take you to the bootloader. Then using the volume buttons scroll down to recovery and select using the power button.
Next you should get a screen with the red triangle on it. When you see this, hold volume up and press power. Then select wipe data factory resest. This will wipe all your data but ce la vie dude.
If this doesn't work you need to flash a pd98img.zip file from the bootloader. Get back to me and I'll help if needed. Good luck.

im using cwm3.0.0.5 it says its restoring my backup but wont go past htc screen after reboot i can get into cwm with no problem ive tryed clearing the cache and factory wipe ive tryed reinstalling the rom that i had working on the phone before this happend nothing i dont know what to do and i need help many thanks
Don't restore. It won't work without soff and perm root. Factory reset the reboot. Does your phone reboot without trying to restore?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
in hboot it says eng s-off
Can you reboot without restore? Do you have sdk on your pc?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
i dont have sdk and when i reboot it stays on the htc white screen and goes no further i have to remove battery and hold down and power to get to hboot and recovery from there takes me to cwm 3.0.0.5
Ok. So we need to flash on older clockwork. Email me and I'll reply with the files you need then I'll talk you through flashing the recovery from fastboot. You have the wrong version of clockwork. The one you have is for 2.3 based roms.

Need help with my phone.

Noob here. I woke up this morning and my phone would no longer boot past the white screen with the words htcEVO4g on it. I am able to get to the bootloader screen, but am unsure of what I do when I'm there, to get a working phone. =P
Each time I select recovery from the BootLoader menu, it just goes back in to that boot loop. Turns on, quick vibrate, white htcEVO4g screen, then off again. Rinse and repeat.
Can someone tell me what I should do from here?
Thanks
Are you rooted with S-off?
If you are get a pc36img and put it on the root of your sd go into boot loader let it scan and it will ask if you want to update put yes and let it update. Tell me if it works
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Before you do that, just boot to recovery and clear cache and dalvik cache, then try to reboot.
I had that happen a few times with mine, in the past, and simply clearing the caches worked.

Thanks. The phone is rooted with S-off. I actually have two EVO 4G's. Me and my wifes. This phone here that is having issues is actually my wife's phone. So what I tried, was switching sdcards, and inserted my sdcard in her phone (because it has a different pc36img file on it) and tried it from there. Same thing. It just goes in to the boot loop. I will give this another shot though. I'll download another pc36img and try this again, just in case I did something wrong.

Unfortunately the phone prevents me from booting in to recovery. I can boot in to the bootloader by pressing the power button and the volume down button. However, from that menu, when I select recovery, it reboots, and promptly goes in to the boot loop, and never gets to recovery.
Maybe you don't have a recovery have you tried putting in a recovery?

HTC EVO Bootloop

Hey guys, quick question.
My friend has an HTC EVO on Spring. Not rooted, nothing. It's completely stock. It just started acting weird. I pulled the battery and it went into bootloop. When i press the volume rockers + on button it will boot into recovery mode? if thats what it's even called.
After a while of bootlooping the phone shows an image of a phone with a triangle with an exclamation point in it.
Any help?
I've got an infuse, so i'm ok with flashing and rooting and whatnot, i jsut dont know how to reset the HTC.
Sounds like an ota update that was interrupted or a bad ota update
Try this.

Its the original RUU. I think you need HTC Sync to use it. I could be wrong seeing I don't have an EVO.

I started with the basics and wiped the phone data and it booted right up. Now lets see if it stays running...
Just for future reference, is there a way to completely wipe the phone (rom and all) and start fresh?
On the infuse platform we use ODIN. Not sure if there is something similar on the EVO

On the evo you use a RUU it returns you to complete stock no recovery no root but you will still be s-off. RUUs can be flashed through fastboot or renamed and flash in the bootloader

If you have a card reader you can transfer it to the sdcard or use your phone transfer it to the sdcard and put the sdcard back in the evo
