Noob here. I woke up this morning and my phone would no longer boot past the white screen with the words htcEVO4g on it. I am able to get to the bootloader screen, but am unsure of what I do when I'm there, to get a working phone. =P
Each time I select recovery from the BootLoader menu, it just goes back in to that boot loop. Turns on, quick vibrate, white htcEVO4g screen, then off again. Rinse and repeat.
Can someone tell me what I should do from here?
Thanks
Are you rooted with S-off?
If you are get a pc36img and put it on the root of your sd go into boot loader let it scan and it will ask if you want to update put yes and let it update. Tell me if it works

Before you do that, just boot to recovery and clear cache and dalvik cache, then try to reboot.
I had that happen a few times with mine, in the past, and simply clearing the caches worked.

Thanks. The phone is rooted with S-off. I actually have two EVO 4G's. Me and my wifes. This phone here that is having issues is actually my wife's phone. So what I tried, was switching sdcards, and inserted my sdcard in her phone (because it has a different pc36img file on it) and tried it from there. Same thing. It just goes in to the boot loop. I will give this another shot though. I'll download another pc36img and try this again, just in case I did something wrong.

Unfortunately the phone prevents me from booting in to recovery. I can boot in to the bootloader by pressing the power button and the volume down button. However, from that menu, when I select recovery, it reboots, and promptly goes in to the boot loop, and never gets to recovery.
Maybe you don't have a recovery have you tried putting in a recovery?

How do you put the phone in to recovery mode?
I think he means that you need to flash a recovery, they come in .zip form too
We're comin from a pure power source.

My Evo will not go into recovery mode. It goes to the white screen, goes black, and vibrates 5 times. I am trying to switch over from CM7 to MIUI because my phone has recently been randomly rebooting and not turning back on unless I take out the battery and leave it out for awhile. I tried to install an updated version of clockwork but it still will not work.
EDIT: Also now when I connect my phone to my computer via usb and turn on storage and I click it it says Application Not Found.
I'm assuming our holding the volume down button and power at the same time? Let us know the steps you've taken so far. I would recomend Amon Ra over Clockwork but regardless it shouldn't have an effect on what your going through.. Sounds like the kernel didn't like your phone though on the rom. But if holding down power and volume down at same time doesn't get you into recovery .. I'm not sure what else to try.

I can get into H-Boot(I think it's called) but I cant select recovery within that so I can do a nondroid and install the new rom. I also have installed Amond Ra.
EDIT: Now it seems that my SD is corrupt, today is just not my day.
Does anyone have any ideas for what I could do to fix this? I tried using google but I had no luck.
If hboot is working try reflashing you recovery. Follow the "bootloader way" in this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026
If your card says corrupted, try using a card reader in your computer and formatting to Fat32, full format, back-up your info if possible, mine has done that a few times and thats what i had to do to fix. Also, try putting your phone back to stock and start over. If you need some help or steps feel free to ask, I would be more than happy! I have a few methods I do if things don't go as planned.

I have already tried that multiple times.
Try a stock ruu then get into stick recovery. Then try flashing a recovery through pc36img.zip. you might have to take this one as a loss and use an old nandroid or start from scratch

How would I go about starting from scratch?
Now the phone will boot up and then immediately shut down. Does anyone know what I did? I haven't touched anything since I flashed CM7 over 2 months ago.
I am an Atrix user. Never had a problem flashing anything with it. My friend gave me his Evo to root and load a rom on. I was able to root and s-off OK, but just d/l'd a rom and tried to flash. Got stuck on the HTC EVO 4G boot screen. Pulled the battery, then booted into recovery. I did not backup ( I then wiped everything to begin flashing the ROM again. Well, now it seems that I have deleted everything. All b/c I was rushing and not thinking clearly. Anyway, is there ANYWAY to remedy this issue? It powers on to Hboot, but thats as far as it goes.
So you can't get into Recovery from Hboot? What happens when you try to get into recovery? If you can get into Recovery you could wipe everything then flash a ROM. Depends on what happens when you try to get into recovery.
If you couldn't get into recovery, I would download AmonRa as a PC36IMG.zip (link in my signature).
If that doesn't work, you could do something similar to a SBF. It is called a RUU. Search for the one corresponding to his Hboot version, plug up your phone and get to hboot and run it as an .exe. Resets to stock.
Try recovery thing first

Thanks for the quick reply. I am able to get into recovery, but when I choose flash zip-choose, it brings up nothing. Its empty.
I will research the RUU method now!! Thanks again!
If you just erased everything, go to recovery, wipe everything, use USB Toggle (If you have Amon Ra Recovery) put a ROM on your SD Card and try to flash it.
BTW, how long were you on the 4G screen?? Because it's gonna take a while to load the ROM and boot up on the first try
You didn't accidentally wipe and/or partition your SD card, did you? Try flashing AmonRa recovery as PC36IMG.zip (I'm guessing you are using clockwork). After you do that, go into Recovery and partition SD card. Then plug up to computer and mount as MS and transfer your ROMs over to your phone. Wipe everything except for SD (thrice is my rule) and flash the ROM and reboot. First boot takes a while, sometimes 5-10 minutes

Thanks, I will try that! I was on the 4G screen for over 20 mins. I got worried once it went over 10 mins, but let it go. Then once 20 mins went by, I pulled the battery.
Guys, Just wanted to say thanks again! I was able to connect using USB Toggle, put a new ROM on, then flashed. Everything went OK this time around. I spent some time on it while doing my work (I was at work haha) but enjoyed tinkering and learning another device. The quick responses saved me, otherwise my co-worked would of went home phone-less rather then happy. Have a good one guys!

go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026
then go to the download section and download the RA-supersonic zip file . Rename the zip to PC36IMG.zip and put it on the root of your sd Card and then power off your phone and hold power button aand volume down at the same time. This will take you to the bootloader and it will say there is a update. Accept it and you will have amon ra now when you go to your recovery.
First, stop using ROM Manager.
Second, d/l this: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?v453e5wg0on3pzt
rename it to PC36IMG.zip and put it on the root of your SDCard (As in not in any folders, just on the card)
If you have it enabled, disable fastboot in settings.
Power down, then hold Volume Down and power until the Hboot comes up. It will do a scan, find the file and ask you to upgrade, hit yes. When it's done it will reboot back to Hboot again, it will do that scan again, and this time hit no. Then click on recovery and you'll be in Amon Ra.
OK, now, since you are somewhat new, here are some tips:
1) Always do a nandroid of your current setup.
2) before you flash a ROM, go to wipe and hit User Data/Factory reset, then wipe each subcategory except SDCard: and Battery Stats, if you're not fully charged. I even wipe Dalvik and Cache twice. This will severely limit and reduce the chance of force closes, reboots, etc.
3) Flash your ROM.
4) You should research APS2SD if you're not using it. These ROMS are bigg and take up a lot of space.
Also, I understand that the God Mode version of Synergy takes for-EVER to boot up. I'm not sure if that's still like that or not, but read everything before you flash it and know what to expect.

reboot recovery, factory reset, cache, dalvik (sometimes my bf tells me to do battery stats, boot, and of course cache) then i install the zip from my sd, let it do its thing, then reboot. works fine everytime. this is what someone else told me to do, (i copied and pasted it) think hes right?
"Ok. I suggest using Rom manager to switch to amon ra recovery. Once you've done that, do a complete wipe ... Including cache, dalvik, boot, data, and system. Flash Rom. Allow 5 mins after initially screens before downloading apps and making changes. This allows the Rom to settle. After you've done that, you can move on with your setup. I would suggest staying away from Rom Manager, you won't need it.
MikG is the replacement to MikFroyo. I've never heard of a MikFroyo 5.x"

Flash amon_RA style supersonic recovery v3.08 found in Dev section thru hboot, vol- and power while phone is off, first download the one with PC36IMG.zip in the name move it to the root of your SD card delete all of the name except PC36IMG.zip make sure there no extra .zip extension now boot to hboot(bootloader) by either powering off the phone or a battery pull the hold vol- and press and hold the power button holding both until the white hboot screen opens. Follow instructions to update recovery (volume up) then don't reboot when asked (volume down) now select recovery and press power to boot into recovery. Go to wipe and wipe everything from factory reset/data wipe all the way down to dalvik-cache, repeat atleast 3 times for each option then hit the back capacitive key to return to main menu (search key/magnifying glass works as the power button does) go to flash zip, navigate to your rom zip and select it, press the search key and then press it again to start the update, when finished updating press back button, go to reboot and press the search key wait til the rom boots, should now work without issue as long as your download is ok, if you are backing up apps in titanium backup restore the app only and no data restoring data can cause bootloops/random reboots after the app restore

I'm absolutely confused with how to root my SGH-T999 properly. I know I'm suppose to use the search function and read everything and anything before I post a thread, but I'm seriously overwhelmed with what's what.
So far, I'm trying to follow this guide, but when I go check the md5, it says it's not a match between the file I downloaded and the md5 # on the download page. I figured that since my phone is 4.1.1, I should use this image, but again, I try to check the md5 sums, but it comes out as not a match.
So I'm super paranoid that I might mess something up and brick my phone.
I'm betting you checked the md5 after extracting it. The md5 on the download page is for the file exactly as you downloaded it.
You don't have to worry about an update 'path'. You can get the latest and flash it as per the instructions.

Yeah, you can use TWRP or CWM to flash roms. It's preference. You don't HAVE to have CWM to flash CM10.

Alright ****. I think I messed something up.
I installed ROM Manager and downloaded CM10. I then went through the options of rebooting it and installing. But now it's stuck at a spinning circle with "CyanogenMod" in the center. I have no idea what to do or how to get out of it. I've tried forcing it to power down by holding down the power button or doing the three button press (volume down, home and power), but either way, it just shuts down, vibrates a little and reboots itself back to the spinning logo screen.
EDIT: Ok so I've pulled the battery and went into recovery mode. Then I "wiped data/factory reset" and I think I got it to work now. It seems to be at the CM10 home screen now

Yeah. That's exactly what I did. Pulled the battery, put it back in, factory rest and wiped data. I'm not sure about the dalvik cache though. Once I got to the ClockworkMod recovery mode/screen, I just went to the "wipe data/factory reset option"
