reboot recovery, factory reset, cache, dalvik (sometimes my bf tells me to do battery stats, boot, and of course cache) then i install the zip from my sd, let it do its thing, then reboot. works fine everytime. Im on CWM 5.0.2.2, but i never see any of the devs say "Hey you have to be on (whatever) for this to work properly.
PS your gonna be a life saver
HAHAHAHA I meant "(whatever)" to be CWM
Whats some stuff you look for in the zip? Teach me teacher....lol

Only thing I can think of is your not using amon ra. CWM is known to not wipe correctly and can lead to problems
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
this is what someone else told me to do, (i copied and pasted it) think hes right?
"Ok. I suggest using Rom manager to switch to amon ra recovery. Once you've done that, do a complete wipe ... Including cache, dalvik, boot, data, and system. Flash Rom. Allow 5 mins after initially screens before downloading apps and making changes. This allows the Rom to settle. After you've done that, you can move on with your setup. I would suggest staying away from Rom Manager, you won't need it.
MikG is the replacement to MikFroyo. I've never heard of a MikFroyo 5.x"

I AM TELLING OU I AM NOT USING THAT RAEMON NOODLE OR WHATEVER ITS CALLED I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT IT AND WONT DO IT...LOL
Well then fml. I trust your judgement, ive seen your posts etc...now i have a stupid question, wtf is amon ra? I looked on the market. Found 4. Which one is it, and then what should i do from there? Follow this dudes instructions?
Rom manager to switch to ra is right. But I prefer to do it manually. But the letting the rom 'settle' is dumb IMHO roms shouldnt have to settle only kernels do

got ya covered, let you know what happens.!! thank you so much!!!!!
Flash amon_RA style supersonic recovery v3.08 found in Dev section thru hboot, vol- and power while phone is off, first download the one with PC36IMG.zip in the name move it to the root of your SD card delete all of the name except PC36IMG.zip make sure there no extra .zip extension now boot to hboot(bootloader) by either powering off the phone or a battery pull the hold vol- and press and hold the power button holding both until the white hboot screen opens. Follow instructions to update recovery (volume up) then don't reboot when asked (volume down) now select recovery and press power to boot into recovery. Go to wipe and wipe everything from factory reset/data wipe all the way down to dalvik-cache, repeat atleast 3 times for each option then hit the back capacitive key to return to main menu (search key/magnifying glass works as the power button does) go to flash zip, navigate to your rom zip and select it, press the search key and then press it again to start the update, when finished updating press back button, go to reboot and press the search key wait til the rom boots, should now work without issue as long as your download is ok, if you are backing up apps in titanium backup restore the app only and no data restoring data can cause bootloops/random reboots after the app restore

Sooo, I just tried flashing Damage Control 3.5 a few hours ago and since then my phone has been absolutely horrid to me. I tried flashing the PC36IMG.ZIP but it wont let me for some odd reason. I've tried flashing different roms (as long as different radios). All to no avail, the only things I can access is the main recovery screen and the Clockwork recovery screen.
If anyone can help me out here so I don't have to pay the $100.00 claim to get a new phone I will gladly donate to XDA for all they've done thus far.

Shoot, well I guess the best I can do is try to reformat my card and go from there. I'll report back with my findings.
I think i can help, but i might be a bit off since there not enough info on the post.
Anyhow, you will have to:
1) Download a new Image (stock?): ex. qap.la/~netarchy/BurntDroid-1.0-Froyoized-netarchy-signed.zip
2) Doanload a stock kernel: qap.la/~netarchy/netarchy-toastmod-4.0.3a-signed.zip
3) push both images to your /sdcard/
3.1) adb pus file BurntDroid-1.0-Froyoized-netarchy-signed.zip /sdcard/
3.2) adb push netarchy-toastmod-4.0.3a-signed.zip /sdcard/
4) reboot your phone in recovery mode (hold volume down, click power)
5) wipe data/factory
6) whipe cache
7) advanced -> wipe dalvilik
8) Install zip from sdcard
9) choose zip from sdcard: (you should see the BurntDroid-1.0-Froyoized-netarchy-signed.zip there, choose that one, and say yes whe asked)
10) repete number 9 with netarchy-toastmod-4.0.3a-signed.zip
11) now choose +++++
This should get you to a working phone. You will have root and a decent kernel.
I ope this helps.

This is what happens to me when I try to install a rom/kernel. It will work its process and do the "Writing Boot" and "Deleting Files." But once it gets to "copying files," the loading bar will slowly move to 1/4 of the way full, and once it reaches that point it will say Istallation Completed. Does this information give anymore details for help?
Edit: I did try that method, And the same thing happened.

Does the radio really matter though? I mean, I have a feeling that even if I do flash the new radios that I'm still going to be stuck doing what I'm doing now.
This is exactly what it says when I try to do a restore:
Checking MD5 sums...
Erasing boot before restore...
Restoring boot image...
Error while flashing boot image!

I download them from here, then I set my phone as the "Disk Drive." Or USB Storage when using CM. Move the roms to my phone, then reboot into recovery and flash from there.
Update:
Just tried flashing a different firmware using the old way. With the recovery-windows.bat method.... Seems to still be freezing on boot though. :/
ive seemed to have fixed it. i wiped phone like 10 times. reformatted sd card, installed the rom called virus. it went to bootloop. so i let it do its thing. when i woke up today, it was perfect!

Sounds good man! I'll try that too and see if it works.
Update: Now it's not even turning on and when I plug it in, the orange light just flashes. I know the battery isn't dead because I had it plugged in all day. So, I guess that means I can take it to a sprint store tomorrow and have them be just as confused as I am about the situation, but without having them know that the phone was rooted? Wish me luck!
P.S. Maybe I'll be upgraded from a Nova to an Epson screen? Wishful thinking....

haha yea maybe! that'd be nice, but im sure they would know if you rooted. even if you did, some employees root their phone as well, or at least these 2 dudes at the shop i go to have, so they help me out when i cant get answers here, which, so many people do, thats why i try to keep in contact with certain people on ehre via skype(branden.allert) or aim(backongb561)
I wen't into the Sprint store today in town... The lady was absolutely no help at all. Plus they didnt have any EVO's in stock. So I just decided to screw it and file it as a claim under insurance. I should be getting a replacement in 5-7 days. Hopefully I wont have the screen separated, light leaked, white spot in the lower right of the (NOVA) screen in this next one.
First off let me say I'm new to root. I rooted my evo last night by following the 2.2 root video guide. Now I'm looking for a rom and kernal that's right for me so please be patient with a noob.
Can someone explain to me (in noob terms please) how to install a rom and kernal. If there is a video guide that would be great. I assume all roms will come with the same files so once I learn how to do it I should be set.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
Please use the search tool. Most roms in the development forum say how to also.
And check the sticky in the same forum.

********IMPORTANT*********
PEOPLE USING AMONRA RECOVERY THE ROM AND KERNEL MUST BE ON THE ROOT OF YOUR SD CARD. ONLY ON CLOCKWORK RECOVERY CAN YOU SCAN THROUGH FOLDERS TO FIND YOUR ROM/KERNEL. SOME PEOPLE SWITCH RECOVERYS WITHOUT REALIZING SO TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE I SUGGEST PUTTING ALL ROMS/KERNELS ON THE ROOT OF YOUR SD CARD. ALSO, WHILE ON AMONRA RECOVERY TO GO BACK A MENU/SCREEN YOU MUST PRESS VOLUME DOWN AND VOLUME UP AT THE SAME TIME.
1.) To install a new ROM you first have to download the said ROM. (Obviously.) Second of all, you have to find the kernel you want to use. Most ROMs come with kernels but you can still download the kernel of your choice.
2.) Once you have the ROM and kernel of your choice, go into recovery mode by powering off your phone, turn it ON WHILE HOLDING the VOLUME DOWN button, do not let go of the volume down button until you're at the boot screen. Select "Recovery" by pressing the VOLUME DOWN button and selecting it by pressing POWER.
3.) You're now in recovery mode. Make a NANDROID backup (varies on how to do it depending on which recovery you're using) if you're on Clockword Recovery scroll down until you see something saying "nandroid" when there select it with POWER, then select the option that says "Backup". (Not sure how AmonRAs recovery works exactly.)
4.) Wipe data/factory reset twice, wipe CACHE twice, wipe Dalvik-cache twice. (Dalvik-cache is located in "advanced" in the main recovery screen.)
5.) Choose "install zip from sd card" then "choose zip from sd card", press up once and it'll bring you to the bottom of the list and you should see your ROM, select it, then install it. Once done installing, go back and reboot your phone, it should be all done now. IF, IF, IF, you have another kernel, after installing your ROM, re-wipe CACHE and DALVIK-CACHE, THEN install the kernel.
You're all set.
Ok simple enough. Thank you for the info. Can I download the rom directly to my phone from this site or do I need to download it on my computer and move it to my sdcard?

You can download it from your phone, but make sure it's on the ROOT of your sd card. I prefer downloading it from my PC, then putting it on my sd card.
So you mean make sure its on the sd card itself and not in a file like downloads right? Also can I delete the PC36IMG file so it doesn't do that update check every time I go into bootloader?

Depends what recovery you are using. Ra recovery has to be in the root folder of the SD card. Cwr you can actually go through folders and search for the zip. So it wouldn't matter where you out it on SD card for clockwork but If ra recovery and its in a folder in SD card you won't see it and can't search through folders for it.

Switched to ra recovery and couldn't find them. Realized then it had to be in root folder. Thought somehow I lost them during the process. I have a backup on my pc also just in case.

My Evo will not go into recovery mode. It goes to the white screen, goes black, and vibrates 5 times. I am trying to switch over from CM7 to MIUI because my phone has recently been randomly rebooting and not turning back on unless I take out the battery and leave it out for awhile. I tried to install an updated version of clockwork but it still will not work.
EDIT: Also now when I connect my phone to my computer via usb and turn on storage and I click it it says Application Not Found.
I'm assuming our holding the volume down button and power at the same time? Let us know the steps you've taken so far. I would recomend Amon Ra over Clockwork but regardless it shouldn't have an effect on what your going through.. Sounds like the kernel didn't like your phone though on the rom. But if holding down power and volume down at same time doesn't get you into recovery .. I'm not sure what else to try.

If hboot is working try reflashing you recovery. Follow the "bootloader way" in this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026
If your card says corrupted, try using a card reader in your computer and formatting to Fat32, full format, back-up your info if possible, mine has done that a few times and thats what i had to do to fix. Also, try putting your phone back to stock and start over. If you need some help or steps feel free to ask, I would be more than happy! I have a few methods I do if things don't go as planned.

go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026
then go to the download section and download the RA-supersonic zip file . Rename the zip to PC36IMG.zip and put it on the root of your sd Card and then power off your phone and hold power button aand volume down at the same time. This will take you to the bootloader and it will say there is a update. Accept it and you will have amon ra now when you go to your recovery.
First, stop using ROM Manager.
Second, d/l this: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?v453e5wg0on3pzt
rename it to PC36IMG.zip and put it on the root of your SDCard (As in not in any folders, just on the card)
If you have it enabled, disable fastboot in settings.
Power down, then hold Volume Down and power until the Hboot comes up. It will do a scan, find the file and ask you to upgrade, hit yes. When it's done it will reboot back to Hboot again, it will do that scan again, and this time hit no. Then click on recovery and you'll be in Amon Ra.
OK, now, since you are somewhat new, here are some tips:
1) Always do a nandroid of your current setup.
2) before you flash a ROM, go to wipe and hit User Data/Factory reset, then wipe each subcategory except SDCard: and Battery Stats, if you're not fully charged. I even wipe Dalvik and Cache twice. This will severely limit and reduce the chance of force closes, reboots, etc.
3) Flash your ROM.
4) You should research APS2SD if you're not using it. These ROMS are bigg and take up a lot of space.
Also, I understand that the God Mode version of Synergy takes for-EVER to boot up. I'm not sure if that's still like that or not, but read everything before you flash it and know what to expect.

I'm absolutely confused with how to root my SGH-T999 properly. I know I'm suppose to use the search function and read everything and anything before I post a thread, but I'm seriously overwhelmed with what's what.
So far, I'm trying to follow this guide, but when I go check the md5, it says it's not a match between the file I downloaded and the md5 # on the download page. I figured that since my phone is 4.1.1, I should use this image, but again, I try to check the md5 sums, but it comes out as not a match.
So I'm super paranoid that I might mess something up and brick my phone.
I'm betting you checked the md5 after extracting it. The md5 on the download page is for the file exactly as you downloaded it.
You don't have to worry about an update 'path'. You can get the latest and flash it as per the instructions.

Oh thank god. Yeah, I was checking the extracted file. Thanks for clearing that up.
One more question: Let's say I want to use CyanogenMod 10. Once I've rooted my phone with this method, I could get ClockworkMod recovery (via ROM Manager from the app store) and download the CM10 mod and install the CM10 that way?

Yes. Make sure you follow all the flashing instructions from the thread. You could also install goo manager and install TWRP and find roms through there as well

Yeah, you can use TWRP or CWM to flash roms. It's preference. You don't HAVE to have CWM to flash CM10.
I never used TWRP, but I'm absolutely content with CWM. Hasn't failed me once. Don't fix what's not broken, right?

Alright ****. I think I messed something up.
I installed ROM Manager and downloaded CM10. I then went through the options of rebooting it and installing. But now it's stuck at a spinning circle with "CyanogenMod" in the center. I have no idea what to do or how to get out of it. I've tried forcing it to power down by holding down the power button or doing the three button press (volume down, home and power), but either way, it just shuts down, vibrates a little and reboots itself back to the spinning logo screen.
EDIT: Ok so I've pulled the battery and went into recovery mode. Then I "wiped data/factory reset" and I think I got it to work now. It seems to be at the CM10 home screen now

Pull the battery. Once the screen is black. Put the battery back and boot into recovery(Vol up, home, and power).
When you installed CM10, did you factory reset, wipe cache, and dalvik cache?

Yeah. That's exactly what I did. Pulled the battery, put it back in, factory rest and wiped data. I'm not sure about the dalvik cache though. Once I got to the ClockworkMod recovery mode/screen, I just went to the "wipe data/factory reset option"
