I have an issue on my device, it won't charge at all or only connected to charger while not charging at all!
I have rooted my device (Bin4ry) and now I want my warranty back for repair.
I have managed to charge it to 30 per cent and install clean firmware using flashtool.
My firmware was .ftf file that I created myself from Sony Mobile Update Service earlier.
Question is: Do I have my warranty back? Do they have a way to find out I used program called "flashtool" and not "PC Companion". As I said I made .ftf myself and did not download from xda.
Yes ! You have Your warranty back.
Don't worry - be happy
Why don't you just repair the firmware via Update Service?

I don't know, I did not want to wait for download to finish as my battery was 30 percent already and I already had my backups :\
Also, I was afraid that PC Companion would not want to repair phone without 100 percent.
PS: Forgot to mention that my bootloader was never unlocked - no worries there

Great!
PC Companion can repair phone with 50 percent of battery - if I remember correct.
First things first -
1) Are you sure that it's not a problem with your battery or your charger? It might not be a problem with the phone but with the cable or the charger instead. Try using different cables/chargers that you know work, and try again.

Hey guys.
My GNex's USB port recently stopped working, so is there any way to get it back to stock (for warranty purposes)? Would adb wireless work?
Thanks in advance.
I'm guessing downloading mobile Odin and finding a stock image to flash. All done from your phone.
Edit: I don't know if you can relock your bootloader. Will any terminal app helps.

I doubt one can lock their bootloader from mobile terminal due to that fact that oem lock is from fastboot. But then again, I may be wrong.
it's impossible! sure you can access adb over the network but the bootloader is only configurable trough the usb with fastboot. seems like you need to fix your usb port to relock the bootloader :-/

Ok thanks, that's what I thought and feared.
I'll go and try to get it exchanged with the bootloader unlocked then, and hope for the best.

How did the replacement go? I'm in the same sort of situation... I plugged my phone in tonight and the power port shorted, burnt the end of the charge cable and needless to say the port no longer works.
I'm debating going through Bell Warranty or using the Insurance coverage which comes with a charge. Gotta love the UNLOCKED Icon when you boot the phone :|

Well after using mobile odin to flash stock images, the usb port magically started working again, although only partially, and I could relock the bootloader, so I don't know what would have happened with it unlocked.

strange, glad it worked out for you! I went for the replacement phone through the Bell insurance option, It'll be here within 3 business days. Given my power port is physically burnt I'm not so lucky.

I recently came into the possession of an Xperia Play and I have been left confused by the situation. The touch screen does not work but the buttons do... It is running the default modded Sony version of Android, It is a few months old and I have a feeling that it is a software problem rather than a hardware problem. I am wondering if there is any rooting method that would be suitable for my situation or should I just give up on the phone?
Any help would be appreciated

It's not rooted and it's already running the stock version of aneroid. I'm trying to figure out if I could root it without being able to access the phone's settings. I believe installing third party apps is enabled. Should I just try superoneclick or would I risk bricking it
Yii don't need to have it rooted to flash back to stock...just download the stock.ftf and flash it via flashtool

There's a problem with that too. Flashtool wont recognise that there's a device connected since I can access the "Allow USB" on my phone Can you think of any ways around that?

and when i remove it it doesn't last more than half an hour until the battery low alarm
and i don't know anything about flashing or rooting
does any one know how to fix this ?
and here are the phone software information:

Have you tried repairing it with PC companion? But it more than likely is the battery, though they shouldn't go suddenly.
Another option is to take the battery out for an hour or so. Probably best to give this a try first, it doesn't cost any money or mess with any apps

Repairing via PC Companion, or full flashing via SEUS (SUS now) are your solutions.
If problem persists, then your battery is defected probably.

Can you try installing a generic .587 firmware?
You can download it here:
Generic Trade Central Europe 1 (4.0.4) (1254-2716)
https://hotfile.com/dl/167361348/43349db/LT18i_4.1.B.0.587_(1254-2716).ftf.html
You can flash this using Flashtool, if you need any help with it I will write you short and easy to understand instructions.
But first download the Sony Update Service and flash your phone over the official software. It's easy to use and all the instructions are within the software so you dont have to search for them. If the problem doesn't go away with sus repair try to flash a rom with Flashtool.

What is "dead boot"?
Does phone vibrate when powered on?
Any lights on led?
What happened when you plug it PC? (nothing, something...)
What happened when you press search or back and plug it in pc?
What is your model? i,a,at,x?
How your phone died in first place?
Do you have locked/unlocked bootloader?
What was latest firmware/rom installed on phone?
did you overclock it before it died?
If you just saying "help me, my Play is dead" and not providing any info, then no one will be able to help you. Even worse, no one will be willing to even bother asking questions that you should say in first place...
And yes, one of reason your Play don't work is that motherboard is dead, so no one can help you. Just be ready for that answer even if you don't like it

Well, good news, you Play is not tottaly dead (green light means battery is charging and full)
Do you have drivers installed for phone?
-Try the following:
press and hold back button and while keeping it press connect usb to PC. Now right click on "my computer" and choose "manage". click on "device manager". Do you see anything named "sony" there. What exactly does it say? (something like sa102, unknown,etc...)

Why did you flash ota via adb sideload?
Very bad idea - why? Because I bet that ota wasn't meant for your firmware version
Only ever update your phone through the about phone section on a totally unmodified stock rom with stock recovery
Sorry but you will have to take it to a repair shop to either get it reimaged or get a new board that has the firmware already on it

replacing the entire motherboard.
@CypherPotato You seriously achieved that? They didn't check for BL unlock status?
I just bricked mine, still uncertain what happened, left it doing an update (OTA) with a 30-35% battery... dunno if the battery ran out during the update thus bricking it or the update with the unlocked BL did it.
Same situation as described, no response while connected to the PC only a blinking led.
Checking for battery drain issues (also present in the G series) by letting it charge for a while.
But commom, what Moto have in their heads, replacing the whole motherboard seems quite dumb, releasing the files can't be that hard. Loved my old Nexus 5, hardbricked it like 3 times and didn't take 1 hour to find how to undo it.

Yeah... Motorola sucks until don't released Osprey (Moto G 2015) blankflash files, since the bootloader is locked for an only and one shipped ROM you cannot update in stock rom anymore, and I don't known the risks of re-locking the bootloader inside an non-shipped stock rom. The best you can do is create an system-dump backup before flashing new roms.
Unlocking the bootloader probally will break all device warranties, because you don't will able to flash another rom anymore.
The unique and unknown solution is reflashing the entire device's memory, that we will need to use the Qualcomm's blank flash files and Cedric blank flash files to rewrite the entire internal memory.
The flashing LED only indicates the device failed to start, but he still alive.
