[Q] Boot Loop Issue - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hi, I flashed a custom ROM with CWM.
I have flashed multiple ROMs before with no issues.
However, when I flashed CleanROM ACE for Galaxy Note 2 SGH-i317m, this time it has a boot loop issue.
It shows the samsung logo and it would not proceed.
The most troublesome thing is that I cannot get into download OR recovery mode because it stalls at the Samsung screen..
I would really really appreciate someone's help....
Thanks,

Are you on the Canadian carrier? if you are using the CR 4.2 it will go into a bootloop. But scrosler updated it to 4.2.5, which fixes the bootloop.

If you can't get it into down mode or recovery. Im not sure it can be brought back to life. Sounds like a hard brick.

I really hope it isn't a hardbrick.. especially because I still see the samsung logo, it's just that the phone can't kick itself out of the boot screen..
I am going to try to use a usb jig and see if it'll force my phone into download mode..

Did you pull the battery and then put it back in and hold volume up, home, and tgen power to get ya into recovery? If ya get into recovery factory reset
Your not hardbricked calm down

Thanks for the suggestion, but as I mentioned in the original message, it does not let me get to recovery mode. When I try to get into recovery mode, it stalls at a samsung boot screen.
Same kind of issue with download mode and normal mode

Have you tried that battery pull? Ive been there many many times your not hard bricked . Hardbricked is no sign of life

Doesn't sound hard bricked. Try multiple times the home button/power/volume up till it comes up. It doesn't always work with mine either. With the S3 you can only hold them down for a few seconds then let go. If you hold them too long it will just reboot the phone again.
Certainly doesn't sound like a boot loop. There's still hope!

Yes I tried doing the battery pull a couple of times. I even tried leaving the battery out for up to an hour, but still no fix.
I always press down on the home button and the volume up key before pressing the power button to avoid the chance of turning on the phone without getting into recovery mode. (same with download mode)
I plan on getting some 300Kohm resistors tomorrow so I can try USB jig, but if there are any other things I can try before then, please let me know.
Thanks!

I think I always push volume up then home then power and when it shows samsung release all and let it do its thing it may have to be in that order

Exynos I have seen hard brick and still show start up screen. I read an article that about that that after it happen to my freind he still has the ohome and its still like that. The jig may "trick" it into recovery. His issue building from source his firsr rom he had heap so low it wouldnt even boot past screen and not enough heap to get to recovery. You jig may work . Dont leave it in too long . Just my opinion. Im a noob to android lol.

I read that too . No need to go into detail I'm not one to argue. Just keep trying bro I hate it for you. Just keep trying until it gives in good luck. Ill try to find that article again. Cyanogenmod had alot of write ups those exynos are different ball game than your usually hard brick thats the reason I said that in first post. Im not saying they did the write up it just seems like they did. Im no expert though

OMG I might have just saved my phone!
Thanks for nailing that thought into my mind tyshemi!
Whenever my phone stalled at the boot screen, I always tried just pressing the power button to reboot, or just take the battery out.
One thing I didn't think of doing was pressing the volume up key, home key and the power button WHEN I already was at the stalled screen!
I managed to get it into download mode and I was able to unbrick the phone via Odin!
Thank you so much tyshemi!!

First of all RELAX! Take a break, go dor a walk, and then comeback to your phone.
Try taking out the battery and the memory card out and leaving bothout of the phone. Plug in your phone, it will look like it's gng to charge, try to go into download mode.
You can also try another USB port. Try another USB cable. Restart your computer.
I had something like thathappen to me the other day, and taking the batt and memory card out worked for me. Good luck my friend. Report back to see if it worked for ya.

Hmmm...out of curiosity, how long do u hold down the vol down+camera+power button? For some reason, when booting into CWM on CM7, if u hold down those 3 buttons for too long, you'll get continous reboots. Hold down the 3 buttons only until the lower 4 buttons on the screen turn on, then let go. Your phone will seem to reboot, but then actually boot into CWM.
This is assuming of course, that your holding down the 3 buttons and its continously rebooting. If this isn't the case, click on the link Kenny posted above n follow instructions. Good luck!

Lol this is exactly what I was thinking... "maybe he just thinks its like the bml cwm and he's holdint the 3 buttons waiting for it to boot into cwm". With mtd it will keep rebooting until you actually let go of the buttons...

I had to constantly change usb ports find the stock dk18.md5 file flash it...
Then root with the superuser.zip file..
And now I'm running viperrom v4.2 and switching between it with superhero v for vendetta rom.
They both work great, but I'm trying to flash syndicate 5.0 but I can't find the file.. its okay tho.
It wasn't me holding down the buttons to long its just that it wouldnt go I accidentally deleted the files to flash into the phone so I had to do all the stress again..
Thanx everyone for the help!

Bricked Stock Samsung Galaxy S2

Well I recently bought a S2 with t-mobile, and just recently it received a OTA upgrade in December. I didn't install it until January, and it looked like everything went fine.
Until it rebooted at stayed on the white screen stating software update
installing and it never moved... Has anyone experienced anything similar?
Re-install Packages
Haven't seen the stock bootloader in a while but there should be an option to re-install packages. Do this.... If it doesnt work then we need to get you into download mode and have you try to use odin.
1. Turn off the device. Pull the Battery. Reinstall Battery.
2. Press and hold both Volume Up and Volume Down keys at the same time.
3. Press the Power key only until the phone vibrates once, then release only the Power key.
4. Continue to hold the Volume up and Volume Down keys until the Android System Recovery screen appears.
5. Press the Volume Down key to highlight Re-install packages(if it is there)
6. Press the Home key to select.
7. Press the Volume Down key to highlight Yes
If there is not a re-install packages try a data/factory reset and see what that does. If nothing, you are trying odin
don't worry, it isn't a brick, follow the instructions above. I think i fixed my friend's phone by simply flashing cwm, I was going to flash a rom... but that did the trick.. but each phone is different.

If you meant only download mode, then you should be able to flash stock with Odin.
If you meant or download mode, then you're probably bricked.
Was it a kernel for t989? Shouldn't be bricked if it was. If it was accidentally another phones kernel...then you're in trouble.

I flashed the wrong rom on my sgh-t989 and bricked it . I found Mobiletechvideos JTagging service, took the chance and sent my phone and 50 dollars , had it back in just about a week working like new . Very nice people and did exactly what they offered.
When I hard bricked my SGSII last month, I too went the MobileTechVideos route. Folks on the forum highly recommended their services, so I purchased their JTAG service and sent them my phone. I was not impressed. They had it for a week (which I'd expected), shipped it back to me uninsured in a padded envelope, and didn't tell me why my phone hadn't been fixed until after I'd received it--and only then because I asked why it wasn't fixed.
At least I received a refund.

[Q] Is there any SAFE WAY to back out of recovery install?

I've already bricked 1 ET4G and don't wanna do so again(Thx best buy for replacement!)!!! I followed all the steps and warnings! I went back to gingerbread & EL26 recovery! I had flashed many other times without incident, but this time I went to install, it opened package and started update(install) i dont remember which it was then proceeded to sit there for 4 hrs and do nothing! Being a JACKASS(!!!!) figured nothing had really started and started pushing buttons basically! My question is, is there anyway to SAFELY stop or back out of and install if something like that happens again??? Any help greatly appreciated! I don't know if best buy will buy the whole bad OTA BLUE LIGHT SPECIAL again!

That has happened to me before too and I did a battery pull. Could not get the phone to boot but I could however get back into download mode and recovery so I just like the previous person said Odin'd back to stock and re rooted. That is what I would do if I were you. Also what recovery were you using when it froze? If it was hitman I would stay away. That is the recovery I was using when I got messed up too.
Like he said, i would stay away from Hoffman and CWM9(TOUCH). Both are buggy. Use cwm7 rogue. Never had a problem with that.
---------- Post added at 01:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:41 PM ----------
Hitman sry. Darn Swype lol.
Can you hold down power and volume down within recovery to boot you into download mode without pulling battery?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-5
No. You can't. Just pop battery. Wait till all the had buttons shut down. Then put in the battery but don't boot up. Now Vol down + power + home into download mode. Press. Vol up. Odin back. (flash again)
If a USB jig doesn't work, ur bricked and should probably stop messing with ur phone til u do some research. Not being a ****, I'm somewhat a noob, but I read OP instructions to the T and if I'm confused I Google, check YouTube, and if I have to post on xda lastly.

HELP !! Phone doesn't boot past recovery !

Hello guys !
I have done something terrible and phone is not booting up part recovery now.
I had rooted the phone with one-click universal method without any hasstles and then try to reboot into bootloader by pressing VolDown+Power button.
Eventually ended up rebooting in original android recovery. I tried rebooting with option in that but it was not responding.
While trying it out, I mistakenly wiped cache partition.
Now NO MATTER WHAT COMBINATION I TRY, phone doesn't boot up past the recovery.
Please help me sort out this mess. I need to sell the phone.

I posted this in the other thread you asked about this in, but here it is:
I wipe my cache partition all the time. I am rooted but still locked (I don't think that will last much longer). Anyways, in the android recovery with jelly bean, I found that you no longer use the power button for selecting or confirming. It's now done using the menu button below your screen (on the right) . At least that's how it works for my phone.
I hope this works for you.

Mate.. after getting the phone booted up I installed FreeGee app from Play store to get bootloader unlocked and flash recovery , but downloading recovery stopped due to an error. So I rebooted the phone and since then Wifi is not detecting my home wifi network.
I then tried to do erase cache partition and even factory reset but nothing helped.
Do u know what else I can do to get it right ?

I haven't fully unlocked my phone yet. Only rooted it. However it sounds like you might have to LGNPST to set things right. Maybe someone else that is more knowledgeable with this issue could chime in and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that might be your only option.

Thanks mate.. will try this
OK.. mate I tried the LGNPST method. Downloaded LGNPST and stock v9 bin file. Used it to flash the stock rom back to stock.
howvere even after full completion of the process without any errors , the phone stucks at LG logo forever. I have tried the process twice.
Is there something I might have missed. I followed the instruction to the line from the pastebin link. Do we have a different Dll for the stock rom then whats there in the LGNPST repository named LS970_LGNPST.dll or something ?
Hopefully this will get you going.
If you downgraded from ZVB to ZV9 heres some needed info:
If you're stuck at the 4glte screen: To get to stock recovery - Power off phone. You need to hold power button for about 20 sec to get it to turn off. Then press and hold vol down+power - The LG logo will come on, then the capacitive lights. Immediatly let go when the capacitive lights turn on.
It takes a few seconds to work. Data wipe/Factory reset. Reboot.
And if you happen to reboot into recovery after this upgrade? Use the "menu" button on the led lights (far right when holding it) to get it to accept your commands. power button won't work.
---------- Post added at 09:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:08 AM ----------
If that doesn't work try this.
Get into DL mode and run "teeny bin" from the post I sent you to, to get LGNPST. Try the main one first, then the optional one if it still doesn't get you into TWRP. You just might have one of those "haunted phones" that seem to be poping up.

It takes a few seconds to work. Data wipe/Factory reset. Reboot.
And if you happen to reboot into recovery after this upgrade? Use the "menu" button on the led lights (far right when holding it) to get it to accept your commands. power button won't work.

If that doesn't work try this.
Get into DL mode and run "teeny bin" from the post I sent you to, to get LGNPST. Try the main one first, then the optional one if it still doesn't get you into TWRP. You just might have one of those "haunted phones" that seem to be poping up.

Thanks again mate.. I was able to install Teeny bin and then flashed a AOSP rom. Now I have my wifi working again without any issues.
Do u have a link of any stock based rooted deodexed rom for this ? I don't want to flash bin images via LGNPST but want the stock look and feel
Imperium and Lifeless are our only 2 stock ROMs so far. In the Development section. Both are very nice.

Another tip when putting the phone into download mode would be removing the battery before pressing the necessary keys.. Once the dl prompt appears battery maybe reinserted back

oh by the way, just to add, while phone is of, simultaneously press the power key and the middle part of the volume keys, with the battery removed. Then insert the usb cable. That should do the trick. Good luck!

You are in CWM boot loop. You don't have to take the lg flash tool.
There are some simple method to fix it.
try this method if your PC could recognize your phone.

If you could not get it to work, flash TWRP to your phone, then use the TWRP method in this post

Please make sure you already have a rom installed in the phone!

Nice new sig, BTW
ok so im back from work and i gave the cmd method a whirl but no luck at all. I went ahead and continued with the TOT and it actually worked. I dont mind at all that i have lost root, im sure some one will figure that out. But what does this mean? Did i just brought back to life a bricked phone? if it is, it would be my first time. I have never bricked a phone in my life and this time it was not by my doing. Im just glad to be part of this community where one might not now it all but everyone working together and helping each other can get things done. Thank you all that helped me out! cheers!!!!
