interesting....bit like a lava lamp when scrolling!

Its not HTC though....
I do quite like it though

Heres the link to app/framwork files if some Developer/themer cares to port it for one x

look at it now see what i can do with : p
i not have the one x at the mins

Very good what htc can do on their phones, but i think that they are going in the wrong direction making these very heavy UIs. With sense 4+ i never had more than 350mb of free ram, and it is quite slow however. They should concentrate more on system optimization. At the moment my friends' gs2 can run almost every game with higer fps than my one x. When i tryed temple run 2 i was shocked The same with vice city that was a lot faster with ICS

RAM doesn't really have to do much with gaming on HoX or other phones, it's more up to GPU / CPU scaling , hox governors SUCK on ics and they tend to throatle thx to Hamdir we have gaming boost which fixes that anyway JB is much better for this matter in general, however as long as it goes for RAM take for instance s3 , it has even less free ram then hox, it has avarage 100-150 free ram, while hox goes 200-350 , anyway when you get into game and if phone needs more ram for it .. it simply makes it by closing foreground apps ( thats how android works ) si theoreticly it's all about governor settings / drivers/ cpu / gpu optimisation.
Anyway with Trips latest kernel gaming just went form normal to high definition , and it's just the start, we still don't have the kernel source so devs can make hell outta it, hopefully we will get it soon so Devs can show us their magic once again =)

very nice!

i know that the ram is not slowing down games, but it was to demonstrate how heavy is the UI. I think that no other brand have such a heavy interface. And this is visible when you scroll in the homescreen, when you open settings ecc. There are many things that we son't need, for example the effects in settings, the cube that they fortunately removed in jb and others.
However i think that it isn't normal that i have to void my warranty to see my smartphone run like it should.
And the sad thing is that i run all the games with a lower fps draining the same ammount of battery of my friends gs2 (or a bit less) even if i play in power save :|
When in stores i try a gs3 i love it's smoothness in transitions and effects and it's sad because i like my one x but it doesn't reach that speed

Well Sense sure is uber heavy system/ launcher , which is why they removed 3d effects in JB , ellastic scrolling in app drawer (also 1 part for removing that elastic scroll is cuz of apple lol , apperently that is their patent) As for touch wiz , yeah that launcher sure is light nearly as stock , i've had touch wiz ported launchers etc and system was much faster then on sense , but the real issue with gaming isn't really sense , you wont see much of a difference even if you play games on aosp , maybe a little bit better , but the real problem is like i said GPU / CPU / scalling and governor settings / drivers optimization sux as well , and as for gameloft games they tend more to optimize it for other companies (snapdragon , mali etc ) then tegra , which is obvious since tegra is in small numbers and ofc they will optimise it better for larger numbers, another thing is there is TONS of devices with different hardware/software/resolution and it's hard for developers to make it work for everyone *perfect* which is why APPLE is the best about gaming just a few devices , similar hardware , similar resolution = easy for devs to make it compatible with all apple devices. Hope this clear some things up. Btw with custom kernels gaming should be much better, with trips kernel gaming already is better and he doesn't even have the source.
Edit - forgot to mention s3 and s2 have alot less pixels to work on then one x, s3 ( 306 ppi ) and s2 (217 ppi + 480x 800 resolution + smaller screen = faster refresh rate ) use pentile amoled screens which use 2 pannels of pixles while hox has 3 pannels of 312 pixels to work on, now imagine this on this way 312ppi on hox x 4.7 inc = 936 pixels , s3 306 ppi = 612 and s2 with lower res and smaller screen 217 = 434 , so hox has literally to work 33% more pixels then s3 and more then 60% from s2 , which explains why sometimes we experience lag in some games, if hox had lower res for instance qHD we would have much better FPS in games then s3 by much , besides HoX runs some games much better then s3 , especially if we take THD games in the matter.

well i think that the major problem is the one with optimization, because thd games like dead trigger are more graphic intense of , for example , temple run, but i've never seen 1 single lag on dead trigger

Well it is actually co-produced by HTC. There is no branding on the device, although it features HTC camera image chip and Beats music. You can also see remnants of Sense in some videos in the call screen. So while it's not Sense, it was made by HTC to an extent.

My Thoughts On Android 4.0.4 (GSM) GNexus

So as a person who has ranted on this board before on how ****ty 4.0.2 was, I just wanted to give my thoughts on 4.0.4
The main point I want to make is that this update is really really really good!
Good Points:
-WAY Smoother overall.
-Browser Is WAY smoother and much better at rendering pages properly (Big thing for me since I constantly use the browser throughout my day).
-I don't think chrome is even necessary at this point. They will probably just merge the two.
-Camera seems much better, although my not a huge photo guy.
-Battery life is incredible! On 4.0.2 I would barely make it till the end of my day (6pm-9pm). Right now I still have 68% left. My results aren't the norm since, I rarely use the phone for long periods of times. But the difference is definitely noticeable in my daily useage.
-Switching between 3G/4G seems much better now. Everything tends load quicker now. (Twitter, browser, pulse, etc.)
There are other good points, but these are what most matter to me.
Bad Points:
-Still a slight lag between pushing multitask button and the apps showing up. But it is much improved over 4.0.2
-Some slight lag when opening app-drawer (transition is not smooth, but not bad either) However in app-drawer everything is smooth
-Minor gripe that might only bother me, is that the calender widget now shows the colored squares that represent different calendars in the middle of the box for each event, I thought it looked much better when it was smaller and in the top left corner.
There might be others, but these are what really bug me.
So yea, I think this is great update and this how the nexus should have launched.
Btw I am curious about what SMP PREEMPT Mar 13 means under kernel version?
Thanks for taking the time to read this. =)
In the secret menu (you can access dialing *#*#4636#*#*, in the first section) It is selected 'WCDMA Preferrer' or GSM/CDMA Auto (PRL)?

Are you using a live wallpaper? I noticed this too until I switched to a static wallpaper.
My main favorite of the update is auto-brightness actually works now, and has nice transitions when increasing/decreasing the brightness.
No native mounting of USB OTG storage yet though

Thanks! You were right on, now the transition is really smooth after I switched to static wallpaper. Hopefully they can fix the problem with live wallpapers down the line and hopefully it is not a GPU limitation.
4.0.4 fixed the Wi-Fi drop out problem with some routers.
This's a really big improvement.
My Bluetooth works now .on 4.0.2 yakju it didnt

Not the same GPU.
It has been beefed up considerably.
Nexus S GPU runs slower and is fed by single channel ram.

Same, but different.
Galaxy Nexus has an overclocked version.....also its being fed by dual-channel memory now. It's on average 100% faster in GL benchmark off-screen tests. Though dual-core CPU plays a bit of a role but GL benchmark is mainly GPU. So yea on average you can expect the Galaxy Nexus SGX540 to be about 100% faster than the Nexus S SGX540 or about double the GPU performance.
Of course, it still pales in comparison to SGX544mp2 and Mali-400
But I doubt it's GPU limitation holding back live wallpapers.....more like live-wallpapers not being optimized. I'd prefer to run a black background or something anyway to save battery....live wallpapers were fun for a little bit, but got boring fast.
You can check it out on anandtech
Edit: ^^ beat to post by 2 minutes haha
Is our gpu really that much slower than mali though? I thought i saw one particular benchmark between the two like 8 Mflops vs 5 Mflops...seems same ballpark to me. Just a lot more pixels to push in the HD screen
Over in the G note forum a thread exists claiming their mali gpu is too weak for their screen and that they experience stutters and lag. Makes me not feel so bad having our current gpu.

Haha, really?
One thing that I am happy about is that on the lockscreen when you go to camera it goes straight into the camera rather than going to the homescreen AND THEN going into the camera app.
Why is panorama square? Is it just happening on my end? Started with 4.0.2 it's been square not rectangular shape.

It's slower....around 50% slower than the Mali-400. But it's definitely not too weak.
There are a lot of things to account for.......the TI OMAP has HD coding capabilities which help it display things to the 1280x720 screen the Galaxy Nexus has much much easier and faster while being less "performance hungry" it's a pro of the TI OMAP that very few people take into account....Exynos can hold its ground though. In general though, the TI OMAP is a bit faster CPU wise than the Exynos, they trade blow really.
Nothing we use our phones for are really even taxing the GPU/CPU. Yea a few games here and there, but the Nexus can run them all fine. Android in general isn't really "Great" for playing games compared to iOS at leeast because of fragmentation etc...but it's great to use it for daily use and it does it's job.
Maybe when we start doing some crazy video/photo editing on smartphones.....CPU/GPU will play a much larger role. The biggest leap for android was probably single to dual-core and now, things aren't as big of a leap in general user experience performance.
So what custom ROM is the OP running? As he mentioned smoother 3G/4G switching...

He's talking about the stock 4.0.4 OTA.
I think most people are getting a little overexcited about the "smoothness".
In my experience, 4.0.4 is not really "WAY SMOOTHER". I personally can't tell the difference and I pay a lot of attention to stuff like smooth transitions, scrolling, delays, multitasking, ...
The battery life is definitely improved though. I get a lot more "screen" and a lot less "android os".

Tegra 3 performance

Hey guys,
I wonder if the so called gaming SoC will get any better in terms of gaming performance with further updates from HTC. At the moment the games run barely as good as on my SGS2. I know..the resolution of the HOX is twice as high but the games graphics ar getting better and I cant even play NOVA 3 with my 'gaming device'... There is a way to make it a bit less laggy with new Base and franco kernel but it's still far away from beeing smooth. What I want to ask you is: Is there still potential for tegra 3 to run those games smooth and it's just a matter of time till an update comes that improves the framerates or is it just hardware limited? Are there other Tegra 3 devices which can run these games without any issues? I'm hoping that the 3.* kernel will improve something but actually I have no clue.
well u have to look at this from the point of view of the game/software/hardware
the one game u mentioned is not HOX compatible,
it's been force run on the device.... so as far as this go..... you'll need to wait for the game to be T3 optimized
software optimizations are still underway from both xda devs and htc.... and as u see they are getting better by the day
and finally not much to say about the hardware but... its more than capable just give it time.

[POLL] Did u get ur One X for gaming? or to conserve power for sake of mother earth?

Sorry about the humor title, i made this thread to stop arguing in the productive kernel development threads, so please vote here!
Did you chose your Tegra 3 One X for it's gaming brute force, games that Tegra 3 was designed for like HORN, Shadowgun THD and Dead trigger, games that Nvidia aggressively pursue, like they ported unreal engine 3 and keep pushing for the usage of quad core in games, this kind of console like gaming requires the maximum out of your CPU
This is why we are endlessly trying to squeeze T3 to it's limits, we found the optimal CPU governor settings in the gaming scripts and renovate gaming boost app and pushed top kernel devs like Faux to remove the single core step which was confusing and causing lag in multicore able games
Tegra3 in its full speed on the One X will give you around 2.5 hours of non stop gaming screen on time, the good news the boost mode is easily switchable by using the renovate gaming boost app and this way you can gain more of your battery during normal use
Or non of this matter and you prefer development efforts to focus on extracting the maximum screen on battery time, even at the expense of hindering the power of this thing, you are okay with it even if it means breaking the quad core ability in the Tegra3, like in the Nvidia Glowball tech-demo (any tweaking to the quad balance will cause lag in this app, the same for many Tegra THD games )
Gladiators, begin!
I couldn't care less about 3d games on my mobile. What I want is a sleek interface, no stutter when browsing through websites or menus and a "decent" battery life. And, the customisation options of Android.
I don't think playing 3d games on phones is feasible yet. Battery life is too much of an issue and the phone (and internet) abilities of mobile phonesbis of far superior importance to entertainment for most users.
PS: It annoys me so much that theoretically very simplistic games like xxx with friends use so much energy, though. I wish they were properly coded.

I bought a ferrari for save fuel...
The battery life is enough for me I can easily do 4.30h with 70% brightness if I don't play anything or around 3h if u play for around 1h, if you wanted a more power efficient phone there's the razr maxx or even the one xl/at&t version , there's also a lot of very small portable batteries with 3000mah for a very cheap price.... So I don't really get why people want 6h on screen, you will never use the phone for all this time if you're outside.

exactly especially since the phone drains almost zero when the screen is off even with all the data connections
i mean you have crazy amount of screen off time and screen on is based on your usage
pretty damn sweet deal if you ask me
but some people are asking for kernel development like the old days, where you try to control and subdue the device performance for the sake of more battery
Tegra 3 is not like those old devices, and this logic doesn't apply, for three reasons:
1- Its a quad core, don't get a quad superphone for your emergency use!
2- no point in doing anything about screen off life, Tegra 3 has it all solved and built-in thanks to the fifth Low Power core
3- you can't customize or create your own CPU governor, Tegra 3 is very unorthodox when it comes to it's CPU control, any attempt to change CPU control ends in breaking the main quad functionally, even clock speed control is very hard to do
In other words those asking for kernel development to "tam" the quad are actually asking the kernel developer to break Tegra 3, you are better off disabling cores using a core control app or reducing clock speed using userspace governor
and finally
the main battery consumer is the screen, you gain a lot more screen time by reducing brightness than by killing Tegra 3
and those voting for i don't mind balance between the two
do you cry if Nova3 runs laggy on your One X?
Lol i really dont mind how long the battery lasts as i carry my charger anywhere! I love ragging the F**K outta it for gaming! :silly:

+1 and infinity.
If I really wanted to and had the time to focus on playing games I would have bought a PS Vita or something. Would have been better (since its also a game pad) and much cheaper too.
Buying a device that's meant to be primarily used for web, communication and general multitasking is a rather ridiculous idea if you want to kill it with games.

The thread is a one way explanation for phone..
This phone is much more then a cpu..
It's a beautiful screen..
A lovely camera
Somewhat mediocre but comparatively good music
Awesome build quality
And superb speed and power
So the phone is not just for gaming, it's d best camera phone with authentic sound, screen..
Thus only seeing gaming part of it isnt fair.
Again it's only my opinion and what way most of people look at this phone.
And before u say I should have bought one xl then it is not available in my country and I wanted to upgrade from my sgs2 so dual core»quad core should be..

how r we killing it?
with the very maximum and most technically advanced game around (Horn, unreal engine 3), with full CPU boost and the fastest kernel, battery heat around 50c and you get 2.5 hours of screen on time with brightness @25%
i doubt any vita will do better, i know iPhone 4s can die in two hours on infinity blade!
now if you don't push it, it won't spend it very simple equation!

but this very thread is specifically discussing gaming vs battery
you are not concerned stay out of it or choose a medium vote
I think balance is more important.
Installed a lot of games when I just got my HOX, but have been uninstalling them one by one cause they drain my battery too fast. 1-2 hrs of gaming on the phone and I need to be prepared to say bye bye to my battery

T889 Gaming Performance? Mine has noticeable lag

How is everyone's gaming performance on their T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2? Mine seems pretty low for some reason...
NFS Most Wanted seems to only run at about 20-30fps, Dead Trigger stutters often on high graphics, and the worst one Riptide GP performs much worse than on my Galaxy S3 (with Snapdragon S4)
Riptide GP works perfect on my Galaxy S3 at full resolution in the settings, no hitching and feels like 50-60fps. On my Note 2 it feels like 30 fps average (which feels horrible to me, I'm a 60fps+ only PC gamer) with drops to about 15fps happening often causing a ton of stutter. Even if I turn the resolution all the way down in the settings it still stutters, although not as much.
I was under the impression that the Exynos 4412 + Mali 400 was superior to my Galaxy S3's Snapdragon S4 and that gaming performance would be much better.
I am on stock rom and stock kernel, haven't messed with the phone at all yet. I've tried turning on and off all the power saving features and restarting the phone to see if maybe those were stuck on. Anyone else here able to play Riptide GP smoothly? I'm thinking maybe it's just a problem with cpu/gpu throttling, although I'm not sure why they would have it so bad on the stock rom.
lol how does that happen?? try a quadrant run to see the results
i get max fps on all games i play on it that includes NFS MW
i play everything on high / ultra and don't have framrate issues. deadtrigger deadzone etc, maybe something is running in the bg?
Yea very odd. I've had no lag in any game and I've tried all games on the highest settings. I've played all emulators as well including the PlayStation as well.
From the Best: Note 2
I also came from an S3 from TMo, and Riptide GP when set to maximum graphics would noticeably stutter. The Note 2 however plays it buttery smooth at max settings. Maybe a factory reset is in order?
Make sure you don't have power saving on as well.

Odd that you have that issue. Between Nova 3, Shadowgun, Worms, NFS Most Wanted, Asphalt 7, The Dark Knight Rises, and Dead Space I haven't had any stutters.
Might be what you have running in the background
noted for future reference on my Note 2
Like I said I have all the power save options off, I have tried closing all BG apps and tried clearing the RAM and restarting the device.
I just closed apps, cleared ram, and ran GLBenchmark on my Galaxy S3 (Snapdragon S4) and T889 (Exynos 4412) simultaneously.
About half the scenes were smoth on both devices, and half the scenes were very sluggish on the T889 while they were still fluid on the Galaxy S3.
The end result:
T889 GLBenchmark 2.5 Egypt HD C24Z16: 1950 frames.
Galaxy S3 GLBenchmark 2.5 Egypt HD C24Z16: 2348 frames
So my Snapdragon Galaxy S3 edged out my Note 2 by almost 20% but it seemed like even more of a difference watching visually, where the Note 2 lagged in some scenes while the S3 stayed smooth in those scenes. I'm not sure why my Galaxy S3 is so much smoother in games I have already tried a factory reset. Maybe I'll try to flash a new kernel and rom, I honestly think the stock rom chokes the GPU or CPU too much with throttling I'm guessing. I just don't know why no one else has this problem!
Just curious what do you guys get on the GLBenchmark 2.5 Egypt HD C24Z16 on your T889's? I did "onscreen" for both devices. Do you notice that some of the scenes seem like they have a veryyy low framerate? (10-15fps while my S3 seemed like it was 20fps+)
maybe try installing a new rom, a fresh start see what happens because that is not normal
I ran the same benchmark on two note 2's and got roughly the same as yours.

Some gpu's are better at some things than others. Run quadrant on both and see what the real time fps are. I know my s3 in quadrant during the dna test at the end would average 33 fps while the note 2 gets almost double that. Same with other parts of that test. Antutu most of the graphics tests are very close.
You should know that Exynos is particularly weak at drawing triangles compared to Adenos. Go take to look at Anandtech's review. I think Exynos 5 has a lot better triangle drawings compared to Exynos 4.
All GPUs have their own weak and strength points.
Compared to the Nexus 4 GLBenchmark I've seen, GN2's much worse. But mine ran Most Wanted without a problem. And since my Nexus4 is in limbo I can't really complain.

Nexus 4 is pretty much next generation hardware. The Snapdragon S4 Pro and Adreno 320 GPU are at the absolute top of the Android food chain right now.

This. Installed Jedi 4 rom with the Perseus kernel and it's muchhh better. Still not perfectly 60fps smooth, but it is a lot better.
I'm pretty sure my suspicious about throttling were right though, even on the Jedi 4 rom with the Pegasusq governor the throttling still seems a little too harsh. I opened up Riptide and then started System Tuner and reset the "Times" page. Then I played through a whole race with a little bit of slowdown (which is to be expected, but it is wayyyy better than before) then I went right back to system tuner and it shows that pretty much the whole race the CPU core clocks were at 500mhz, 600mhz, and a little bit at 700/800mhz. Literally didn't touch 900mhz - 1.6ghz at all the entire race.
Tried the performance governor where it stuck at 1.6ghz and the race was definitely 60fps through the whole thing, although I'm sure this really hammers the battery. I wish there was a happy medium, if the game is not running at 60fps I wish the governor would ramp up to more than 800mhz to try and reach that 60fps but I'm still happy I'm geting equal / better performance than my S3 now!
The same goes for Shadowgun Deadzone, plays pretty smooth with a little bit of slow down, but if I force the performance governor it's 100% smooth. We need a new gaming governor!
Try ondemand? Maybe thats is a happy medium.

I was playing Granny Smith on my Note II and compare it side by side with an Iphone 5. The Note II was stutter, however you wouldn't notice it if it wasn't for the iphone 5 being very smooth.

Unfortunately there's only Pegasusq and performance on this rom, so I've been setting it to performance and 1ghz max freq when gaming, works great!

What,... I was on topic on why the Galaxy Note 2 has noticeable lag? I did a side to side comparison with my Galaxy Note 2 and it does not run as smoothly as the iphone 5. So obviously the GPU is not nearly as good as I would have hope for. Is the word Iphone not allowed around here?
No its not. Never say the iphone is better than anything. ...har har

[POLL] Which Need For Speed Most Wanted graphics mode are you using?

unless you've been living under a rock, you must be aware by now about my performance mod for Need for Speed Most Wanted 1.0.28
This a poll about the Multiple Configuration Patch configuration patch
I have recently recommended 1300000 for internal view and 100000 for external view
I would like to know which setting you found best to play this game
will help us realize which is more important graphics/effect or speed/smoothness
1ghz version.
It is smoother, the phone doesnt gets so hot, so the battery consumtion is not that heavy and it is still eyecandy .
I just wish I could do this with shadowgun deadzone: I would give up this tasty shaders for good perfomance with 8+ players on the screen...(it goes down to aprx. 12 fps and its annoying in online game)

good choice i found its best for outer view
as for shadowgun deadzone, you can! in the game just go to settings and reduce the graphics, by default it high or ultra
madfinger betrayed us on this one! they used tegra 3 to develop and test the game and in the final multi device version they ruined it for tegra it was so smooth in the beta

1000000
Neo's Kernel. @ 1.2GHz
Recommendation for the HTC One X Tegra 3
The Nexus 7 patch or the 1300000 mode is good in initial levels, except the lag during road blocks, sadly later on with faster cars fps does suffer, keeping in mind the internal view doesn't have to draw your car and has much higher fps, i have concluded the following:
- If you like to play from internal view, i recommended the Nexus 7/1300000 mode you get to enjoy the extra track effects at good fps, even road blocks lag is minimized
- If you like to play from external view, you will have to settle with the 100000 mode, this is the mode running on the Nexus 10, the graphics still look massively better than Asphalt 7 and there are two bright sides no lag whatsoever on roadblocks and with the fog removed you get to enjoy much further draw distance
- If you still like to play the external view plus 1300 i suggest you try Eternity Project kernel with my interactive script, fastest but complex kernel for gaming and runs 1300 mode very smooth
Thanks for your good work. I'll try it now.
Those using the gaming kernel i seriously recommend switching to SIO scheduler for much less micro stutters
