(Q)bootloader and rooting

hi to every one i would like to ask before i unlock my bootloader and rooting stuff. im presently on stock rom right now with firmware 2.3.4 baseband ver. -64 and build number .62. i alredy browse threads and guides about this but unfortunately i was not able to find answer.
ok my question is this.
1. will it be possible for me to install custom rom if im just going to unlock my bootloader but not rooted?
2. there are topics about easy rooting on gen. discussion .i just like to ask,is it possible to disregard downgrading process from .62 to .42 if the bootloader is unlocked for the rooting process. since i dont want to downgrade.there has been issues of bricking the phone if your going to downgrade and update afterwards via ota.
3. can anyone give me updated guide for unlocking bootloader and rooting based on my current firmware.

Yes, custom roms are usually (always?) prerooted, so it gives u root permissions. Bootloader is needed to flash custom kernel.

If the bootloader is unlocked ur phone gets bricked after update. However u can downgrade with locked bootloader, next root and than update. If u want lock bootloader use file attached (unpack rar archive and flash ftf using flashtool).
On the other hand u can install CWM and use RootXperia.zip (attached) to root.

1. 2.3.3 - use SuperOneClick Method (maybe work with 2.3.4 i dont use it) or RootXperia.zip or custom Kernel/Rom
2. 2.3.4 - use RootXperia.zip or Custom Kernel/Rom

my arc is 2 days old. so im thinking if im going to unlock and root my phone or not..haha.

im really planning to do that.but before proceeding i would like to ask if it is compulsary to downgrade to .42 to gain root access cuz my im on .62 right now.
what do you think should i do first unlock bootloader or the rooting process.?

actually i already tried to unlock my boot loader but in typing imei process the instruction wanted me type 14 digits but upon seing my phones imei it has 15 digits. haha

first what i did when i began to want root my phone was unlocking bootloader and than flashing DooMKernel which is prerooted and i didnt need to do it myself (also i got OverClocking, UnderVolting and some other things which i hadnt with stock kernel)

no problem. in xda app if u touch post for the moment u got menu. slide it and there is bouquet of flower with "thanks" (i think cause i have polish version)

ive been reading topics about this but up to now my confidence is not that hi to proceed. im on htc desire s before which is rooted. i think im going read more before proceeding..im new to arc society.hehe.thanks again.

Unroot to get Warranty back?

Hi Guys ,
can I unroot to get warranty back? Never ever flashed a custom rom nor I unlcoked bootloader.. Furthermroe I want to know If rooting is verfifable?

As long as you don't tell them I guess. However if you need to unlock your bootloader too for any reason they will need to know and thus it will invalidate your warranty. If you just want root etc then it should not be an issue. It's more of a moral issue really. If you do a repair in PC Companion it will return the phone to factory defaults and they should not be able to tell.

btw root doesn't void the warranty..you can still claim the warranty even if your phone is rooted.

Not strictly true, Sony don't recommend rooting hence no official way to root..... So yes you would lose your warranty but flash using pc companion and root is gone.
Unlocking bootloader will lose your warranty either officially our by unofficial ways.

even if ur phone is not rooted unlocking bootloader voids ur warranty .. U can always get ur warranty back by flashing generic firmware using flashtool....... And ofcourse u can relock it using flashtool...

hey tigerstylezz..
dude, you can root your phone without unlocking bootloader..and unlocking boot loader voids your warranty,
go to google and search how to root arc s without unlocking bootloader..there will be a forum from androidauthority.com..just go to that one
root your arc s using the method..this will not void warranty or unlock your bootloader..it will still be locked..
so now download a app from the market called xparts..specially made for xperia phones...open it and it will ask for superuser permissions..
select allow..and then install custom recovery using the app..now that you have custom recovery installed, you can now install a few custom roms to your xperia arc s like jelly sanwhich...just skip the flashing kernel part in instructions of installation of rom..now flash rom using custom recovery..unlocking your bootloader only allows you to flash new kernels...so some roms work on stock ics kernel of xperia arc s
some of those roms are..jj's hybrid rom, jelly sandwhich, xperia ice bean and search more roms that work on locked bootloader on arc s on xda forums..and if you wish to unlock your bootloader.. you just do that and then you can unlock it by flashing a .ftf file on your device..just search it on google as xperia arc s relock bootloader.ftf file and download it and flash it through xperia flashtool...

Flashing zips (which contain themes/mods) with cwm you only need root.
There are very limited roms available that will install with unlocked bootloader,I think only pureness Rom is available, you need unlocked bootloader to install custom kernels which the custom roms support.

Thanks for all the Answers - Yes I know that unlocking Bootloader and Rooting are two different things... I just asked if it is verfifable by Sony if you had rooted your device? Isn´t there any Hidden file saved in the Ramdisk or whether where it saves the Permission Lock? And if not - during the UPDATE Process ON SEUS OR PCCompanion - don´t they SAVE any .Log or something and send it to the Servers, with the IMEI? I knot that I can just usually flash back and things.. Just wanted to know if Sony can find out that I ve rooted ?
BTW: For root .587 I have to flash a kernel (FTF) Downgrade - and then Root - and Upgrade it. So you can Flash Kernels.
I just come from the X10 --> Arc S which is way better I think( Still love the X10 , but Arc S my new love)

You can flash Themes etc.. which are realiable to your curent ROm - you can flash MODS , apps everything , that doesnt requires Unlocked bootloader

if you rooted your phone without unlocking the bootloader just flash a clean firmware to get back your warranty
if you unlocked the bootloader then there is no chance to get back your warranty

Nice info.
Although I've been on some scenario where my handset wont boot up, so I cant revert my ROM & relock my bootloader.
Turns out it was hardware failure and after fixing it, the tech guy found I was using custom ROM, hence my waranty were void

[Q] Xperia Ion JB Rooting (Spectre Method)

Now that JB for ion has been released, i found two root methods.
One for unlocked booloaders and the other for....i dont know, which is what i am here to ask
the other one is by spectre:

If we have an Rooted ICS with CWM installed on an Xperia ION with LOCKED bootloader,
can we also simply flash this via CWM
if yes then do we have to wipe anything?

Yes you need to wipe for Spectra's pre root JB. Us locked loader guys have to use this method until someone comes up with a root. The only thing we still need is a working cwm but that should happen soon.

don't you also have to flash the jellybean kernel too otherwise you get bootloop?

Correct after you flash the rom shut the phone off and flash the kernal. If you guys would just read a little bit all of the answers are in the last few pages of the thread.

I know how to flash by command with adb but, I no have an idea how to root.

Why should you be willing to unlock the bootloader?
There is no need for that on a Samsung phone if you want to root your phone and flash custom roms.
Simply follow the instructions in the OP of the abovementioned thread.
After that you have root and CWM and you can flash whatever custom rom you want if that is suitable for the S4 I9195.
Please be aware of the firmware you have.
With XXUBMJ7 or XXUAMJ7 (both released a few days ago) and later your phone has the so called Knox flag/counter and after rooting, flashing custom rom or flash back an older firmware you will loose your warranty and ain't able (at this moment) to use your phone in an easy way.

Um, sorry. It's just that in Xperia, the phone I already got, it's needed to unlock the bootloader when it comes to flash custom roms. Didn't know that in Samsung doesn't matter, nice!
XXUBMJ7 and XXUAMJ7, what are these things? Firmware versions? And knox, what is that?

Is your bootloaded locked, or unlocked? For LOCKED bootloader, I used the following procedure multiple times with no problems (I don't see why it wouldn't work for unlocked bootloader, but I haven't tried it):
1. Flash .230 kernel using FlashTool (basically, you are temporarily downgrading your kernel).
2. Root your phone using newroot.
3. Flash either .283 or .292 kernel (whichever 4.4.4 build you are on) using FlashTool.
4. (optional) Flash a custom recovery (I use XZDualRecovery by [NUT]
You will need kernels to flash in steps #1 and #3 - either search for FTF files to download, or create FTFs yourself using XperiFirm checker/downloaded and FlashTool. The procedure for creating FTF is described in XperiFirm thread.
There may be other ways; I am only telling you what I tried myself, and know 100% that it works...

The way I understand it, the method I described should also work for unlocked BL.
Of course, you don't need to flash a new ROM -- just a kernel. That's exactly what I said... First, downgrade your existing kernel for rooting, and then, after the rooting is done, flash the proper kernel back.
