Lock ups - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I've been having an issue lately where my phone locks up.Sometimes It will happen after a reboot.. the screen will show half of the lock screen and half of the boot screen (and it will lock up in landscape). Strange thing is, I can here notifications while the screen is frozen. So it seems like it's booting up but the screen is frozen.
The other day I hung up on a call and put the phone in my pocket.. I went to get it and it was locked up with the dialer on the screen in landscape. But the power button and home button was able to make the phone goto sleep and wake up up.
It seems it always locks up in landscape.
This happens with multiple roms so I know it's not a rom issue. I always fully wipe when switching roms also. I've also tried wiping my internal storage and cleaning up my sdcard as well.
The other day I flashed back to stock and it didn't freeze. Although I didn't run it long enough I think.. I'm probably going to try stock again but dam it kills me to run stock lol
Just wondering if anyone had some input on my issue. if any other info will help determine the problem please ask.
Thanks in advance.

I've seen this with another user recently and it might be due to a kernel have you tried flashing a different kernel? And also many new ROMs are including landscape rotation in the lock screen and also an aosp lock screen which is very buggy have you tried disabling lock screen rotation or just disabling the whole system rotation?

Thanks for the reply.. I've disabled auto rotate for a few days and its been ok.. going to try that for a few more then turn it back I and see.

Are you using a ROM with AOSP lock screen enabled?

hmm.. yes I was using asop lock but I could have sworn I've used it with no issues before.. might be just me though as I was flashing so many roms..lol..
Currently I'm using goodness 802 with tw lock, auto rotate disabled and its been fine. I'm going to enable auto rotate and leave tw lock enabled to see if that was it.

I found this out the hard way also: if you use AOSP lock screen you have to make sure all the TW lock screen options are off. If they're not then you get the stuck in landscape issue.

Screen reversing itself, reboot only way to fix

MY phone has done this twice now. The screen with flip itself and look like I'm looking at the phone in a mirror. The buttons, words, icons are all mirrored but I still have to tap in the normal spot to get them to work.
I have to pull the battery to get it fixed. Anyone else have this happen?

I've had it happen once as well, don't know what caused it.
Some rom devs have identified the issue is with the screen orientation transition effects.

This worked for me. No one has provided any feedback as to whether it working for them or not.

It is the ICS rotation animation causing it. Sometimes you can reproduce it if you lock the screen in landscape mode I believe

I've had this happen to me a couple of times.
I never had to pull the battery to fix it though... All I had to do was turn the phone to a different orientation, and then turn it back.
Whenever I had that issue I just tilted my phone sideways and it fixed it. Did you try putting it in landscape mode after the issue?

I tried everything, it would even rotate mirrored. If it happens again, I'll try stuff

When it happens to mine I just unlock it and turn it to the side then back up, goes back to normal after.
Originally I was only able to get out of it by pulling the battery. If you use a lock pattern it doesn't respond correctly to touch inputs.
I went to take a screen shot of the screen while it was upside down/mirrored, and when it shot it the screen went back to normal. I was able to unlock the phone. Seems like an easy enough workaround till the problem is resolved.

remove stock lock screen?

Hey guys,
Is there a way to remove the stock lock screen from my phone? It's a completely stock GS2. I'm planning to root in the next few days, so if that's necessary I'm ok with it. I just HATE the stock lock and want to use widget locker. Unfortunately, when I simply install widget locker over the top, I end up with a redundant lock and have to swipe twice.
Any advice?
Try go locker app

I already know what lockscreen I want to use. I just need to get rid of the stock one.
When you say you have "redundant" lockscreens, do you mean that WidgetLocker comes up, followed by your security lockscreen, or are you not using any sort of password?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA App
He's talking about the static image that you swipe that unlocks the phone. I installed Go Locker and it gets rid of that except for the 1st time you power the phone on.
Install NO Lock from the market open it click disable. Then install whichever lock apparently you want and run it.
No lock apparently disables the stock
Lock screen.

Install the Juggernaut rom and you can pick from a few different lock screens. I haven't seen the stock lock screen since I installed Juggernaut a month ago.

Correct, widgetlocker comes up, then the stock galaxy lockscreen, so I have to swipe twice.

Thanks, I'll try it again. I installed no-lock, and it just removed widget locker, but it didn't even do that reliably, lol. I'll uninstall WL, run no-lock, and then reinstall and hopefully that will work.

Thanks for the recommendation. When I'm ready to go the custom rom route, I'll check Juggernaut out. I don't know why I'm hesitating about flashing, because I've rooted and ROM'd my last 4 android phones, but for whatever reason, I'm not in a big hurry to root my GS2. Other than the lockscreen, I'm pretty happy with it completely stock.
It appears as though installing no-lock and disabling the lock screen, THEN installing your secondary lock works. I've rebooted a couple times and still get the stock lock on launch (which makes sense, since both no-lock and widget locker are started after boot), but haven't seen it since then.
Solution posted above did not help me. I have installed No Lock, disabled lock screen, then installed Go Locker but even so there is sometimes situation when both screens appear - annoying! What do you recommend?
Try MiLocker which is like the MIUI locker. Used it on my G2 and it worked perfectly. I like the static lock on the SGSS2 so that's why I haven't gone back to using it. Its worth a shot and they have tons of different lock screens
*#7594# It does disable the stock screen lock for Samsung Galaxy Epic 4G Touch (Sprint) and also works for Samsung Galaxy Attain (MetroPCS)., I just tried it does not works on our Phone....

Lock screen doesn't work

Hello I am not sure at all what cause this problem but no matter what I do I cannot get my phone to have a lock screen. In fact I can't even to get it to slide in the beginning it just boots into my home screen and if I turn the screen on and off it goes straight back to the homescreen without me having to unlock anything. I've gone into the settings and made multiple types of passwords but none of them show up when I turn my screen on then off. I'm running paranoid android and any help would be nice

I had the same problem when I used Gummy. After flashing the gapps the lockscreen is back.I'm not sure if it will work on paranoid order not.Just try it.

did you try settings/lock screen/screen security/screen lock and change that setting?
I'm on Paranoid Android too.
Sorry but yes I've tried that and no luck.

Have installed magic locker and it works but stock CM7.2 lock screen not working. Can any body help?
I reflashed the rom and gapps and although tedious it fixed the problem..

Old thread, I know. I found this thread searching for a solution to my
lockscreen problem. I want to leave this to help others.
I could not get the lock screen to work at all. I reflashed the ROM,
reloaded GApps, tried safe mode, and about a dozen other things...
nothing. GoLocker worked, but wanted the JB lockscreen.
I had set up Power Widgets in the notification drawer. One of them was the
lockscreen switch. I thought this locked the screen when tapped. I decided to
see if that would lock the screen. That's when I discovered that it activates/
deactivates the lock screen! It had been toggled off.
Toggling this switch does not change the status in the lockscreen settings, and
changing the lockscreen setting does not flip the toggle. So you need to check
both settings and the toggle, if you're using it.
Hope that helps!

My solution for this problem:
Go to settings --> Display & Lights --> Untick "Auto-rotate screen"! --> Profit (?)
P.s. I was on P.A.C rom.

Jelly Bean Screen Off App

I've used the screen off and lock app for sometime without issue but on 4.1.1 it has intermittent issue.
I've searched but can't seem to find an app yet that's verified working 100% can anybody direct me to one.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk 2
No screen off app, to use instead of using power button.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk 2
if u use CM based ROM on there has a widget button on power widget (go to sleep or something alike)
just enable it near setting=>system...i cant provide the exact step cause i'm using sense ROM now
Forgot all about that one, thanks. It would be nice if could it as single app on home screen tho.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk 2
It appears that there is an issue with all "screen off" apps on jellybean (and I think also on ics)
Many times after locking the screen, the screen goes on by itself again, in lockscreen mode thus draining battery and braking our nerves
I wonder if any DEV can solve this one without custom roms.
Personally I have a galaxy note 2 and at the time, I have no reason to change my rom. I'm happy with the stock one.
Any suggestions on a "screen off" app anyone???
Most preferred are the ones that have an icon and not only a widget so as to move the icon to the deck.

Annoying Pattern Lock Issue

Dont know if it's because of the screen protector but every time it "wakes up," the lock pattern never works the first time no matter how careful I am.
It only happens on a wake. If I shut the screen off and turn it back on I have no issues. Very annoying
I've been having the same problem and searching to see if I'm the only one! Are you full stock?
I'm using the stock deodex ROM and Perseus kernel.

I'm not using a screen protector. I have noticed a few times I've accidentally left the Power Saving mode on, but haven't quite linked the two together to see if that's causing it. Do you use power saving mode?

I do not use the power save mode. Cant figure out but since I am using the jelly thunder ROM I havent had this issue.
If you're getting the same problem even without a screen protector, it must be a defective one. If you can easily simulate the problem you should go to ATT store to get a replacement. It may have a defective touch digitizer, too.
yeah i get this after installing a screen protector
and now after installing a rom, the pen selects even though i am not touching the screen.
I also have the same problem.
I am running the stock rom, with no mods. Like you, this typically only arises when awaking the phone first time in the morning. Thereafter, throughout the day, the pattern lock will correctly not appear.
I also have this problem still. I already replaced my device twice.. I'm on tmobile by the way.
I'm not rooted and no screen protector.

I haven't had the issue in a long time. I attribute it to the power saving mode, which I use from time to time, but haven't in a while.
