I've used the screen off and lock app for sometime without issue but on 4.1.1 it has intermittent issue.
I've searched but can't seem to find an app yet that's verified working 100% can anybody direct me to one.

No screen off app, to use instead of using power button.
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk 2
if u use CM based ROM on there has a widget button on power widget (go to sleep or something alike)
just enable it near setting=>system...i cant provide the exact step cause i'm using sense ROM now
Forgot all about that one, thanks. It would be nice if could it as single app on home screen tho.

It appears that there is an issue with all "screen off" apps on jellybean (and I think also on ics)
Many times after locking the screen, the screen goes on by itself again, in lockscreen mode thus draining battery and braking our nerves
I wonder if any DEV can solve this one without custom roms.
Personally I have a galaxy note 2 and at the time, I have no reason to change my rom. I'm happy with the stock one.
Any suggestions on a "screen off" app anyone???
Most preferred are the ones that have an icon and not only a widget so as to move the icon to the deck.

While using the keyboard yesterday, I'd find it would very frequently disconnect from the Xoom, and didn't seem to auto reconnect when I pressed buttons. Every time I'd have to turn off the keyboard and turn it back on to reestablish the link. Anyone else having this issue?
Using tiamat 2.2 moray if that makes a difference.
Not seen the lights flash in a way that would indicate low battery either so don't think it's that.

I would still replace the batteries just to see if it makes a difference.
everyone has this issue, it's just the way either our tablet or the keyboard "works".
I don't count having to turn off and on the keyboard on a regular (sometimes multiple times in a few minutes) period as "working"
Will try some new batteries at some point, though as I said its not given the battery flashing combination of lights yet.

check out xoomforums.com. It's a known issue. Live with it or try the logitech keyboard.
Known issue but no fix? That's a shame. And given I got the keyboard and mouse free I'm loathe to spend out on something ;-)

Likely you an app that's frequently changing system settings. In my case it was the HDWidgets weather widget. I killed the widget and problem went away. Using 1W for weather instead.
Hello I am not sure at all what cause this problem but no matter what I do I cannot get my phone to have a lock screen. In fact I can't even to get it to slide in the beginning it just boots into my home screen and if I turn the screen on and off it goes straight back to the homescreen without me having to unlock anything. I've gone into the settings and made multiple types of passwords but none of them show up when I turn my screen on then off. I'm running paranoid android and any help would be nice

I'm on Paranoid Android too.
Sorry but yes I've tried that and no luck.

Old thread, I know. I found this thread searching for a solution to my
lockscreen problem. I want to leave this to help others.
I could not get the lock screen to work at all. I reflashed the ROM,
reloaded GApps, tried safe mode, and about a dozen other things...
nothing. GoLocker worked, but wanted the JB lockscreen.
I had set up Power Widgets in the notification drawer. One of them was the
lockscreen switch. I thought this locked the screen when tapped. I decided to
see if that would lock the screen. That's when I discovered that it activates/
deactivates the lock screen! It had been toggled off.
Toggling this switch does not change the status in the lockscreen settings, and
changing the lockscreen setting does not flip the toggle. So you need to check
both settings and the toggle, if you're using it.
Hope that helps!

just forget it, read again what i wrote, and its plain dumb, you're with your screen off ... bleh
Awesome idea! my phone overheats, so this will be great thanks!
Just what is was looking for...
Will try it later when using the MHL
Thanks
brilliant:good:
Love it great idea !
is it possible to assign a shortcut button or have it as a notification for easier in app access ?
Working great so far
You could always place a widget of the app to access it quick from home launcher. If I implement permanent notification, it requires a service to be kept running -> battery problem. However if you want, then I could implement a notification toggle that let you turn on the screen without the need of putting the phone to sleep and wake it up.
Please share any other ideas if you have

The best thing I have found so far is an app called Screen Filter (turns the brightness to almost 0%). For me it works best to set a homescreen widget so you can access it when the screen is unreadable.

To any one who want me to port this app to their devices, please note that I don't have the device myself (I only have Nexus S / Moto Xoom and the HOX International). So please PM me, so I can give you instruction on how you can help me port this app.

i tried screen filter. works pretty good but would love to turn the screen off completely.
Dont know if it's because of the screen protector but every time it "wakes up," the lock pattern never works the first time no matter how careful I am.
It only happens on a wake. If I shut the screen off and turn it back on I have no issues. Very annoying
I've been having the same problem and searching to see if I'm the only one! Are you full stock?
I'm using the stock deodex ROM and Perseus kernel.

I'm not using a screen protector. I have noticed a few times I've accidentally left the Power Saving mode on, but haven't quite linked the two together to see if that's causing it. Do you use power saving mode?

I do not use the power save mode. Cant figure out but since I am using the jelly thunder ROM I havent had this issue.
If you're getting the same problem even without a screen protector, it must be a defective one. If you can easily simulate the problem you should go to ATT store to get a replacement. It may have a defective touch digitizer, too.
yeah i get this after installing a screen protector
and now after installing a rom, the pen selects even though i am not touching the screen.
I also have the same problem.
I am running the stock rom, with no mods. Like you, this typically only arises when awaking the phone first time in the morning. Thereafter, throughout the day, the pattern lock will correctly not appear.
I also have this problem still. I already replaced my device twice.. I'm on tmobile by the way.
I'm not rooted and no screen protector.

I haven't had the issue in a long time. I attribute it to the power saving mode, which I use from time to time, but haven't in a while.

I've been having an issue lately where my phone locks up.Sometimes It will happen after a reboot.. the screen will show half of the lock screen and half of the boot screen (and it will lock up in landscape). Strange thing is, I can here notifications while the screen is frozen. So it seems like it's booting up but the screen is frozen.
The other day I hung up on a call and put the phone in my pocket.. I went to get it and it was locked up with the dialer on the screen in landscape. But the power button and home button was able to make the phone goto sleep and wake up up.
It seems it always locks up in landscape.
This happens with multiple roms so I know it's not a rom issue. I always fully wipe when switching roms also. I've also tried wiping my internal storage and cleaning up my sdcard as well.
The other day I flashed back to stock and it didn't freeze. Although I didn't run it long enough I think.. I'm probably going to try stock again but dam it kills me to run stock lol
Just wondering if anyone had some input on my issue. if any other info will help determine the problem please ask.
Thanks in advance.

I've seen this with another user recently and it might be due to a kernel have you tried flashing a different kernel? And also many new ROMs are including landscape rotation in the lock screen and also an aosp lock screen which is very buggy have you tried disabling lock screen rotation or just disabling the whole system rotation?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Thanks for the reply.. I've disabled auto rotate for a few days and its been ok.. going to try that for a few more then turn it back I and see.

hmm.. yes I was using asop lock but I could have sworn I've used it with no issues before.. might be just me though as I was flashing so many roms..lol..
Currently I'm using goodness 802 with tw lock, auto rotate disabled and its been fine. I'm going to enable auto rotate and leave tw lock enabled to see if that was it.
Sent from the 3rd Galaxy with Jelly Beans...
I found this out the hard way also: if you use AOSP lock screen you have to make sure all the TW lock screen options are off. If they're not then you get the stuck in landscape issue.
