Hi bros
I need a call recorder for my Samsung Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.2.1. I have tried lots of recording apps but those apps either didn't work or in case of working, had not satisfying quality. I want a call recorder that can record not only my voice but also the voice of my partner too. Some of apps i tried, acted as a voice recorder and recorded the sound of person sitting beside me which i don't like. please help me
Thanks in advance

Ok, I known exactly what you're saying... I tried TONS of "call recording" apps, that just didn't work as expected.
Today, I still use ICS "4.0.4", but the app is updated regularly, and I've seen some "JB support" in the updated, so it will probably work for you.
First, you NEED a rooted device. This is not a problem for you, right?
Second, you NEED the following apps:
1) AlsaMixer - You can get it free from Google Play.
I really don't understand what this program does, but this program is the key for two-way call recording in Galaxy Nexus.
I think it replaces some audio binaries.. So, open it and ALLOW it to replace your files. You don't need anything else from it, just keep it installed.
2) CallRecorder, from SKVALEX. You can buy it from Google Play, or download from the official XDA thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21317161
* I bought it, as he was the ONLY developer who made it working. So, let's buy him a beer.
After you install both, make a call (or answer it).
All calls WILL be recorded by default.
You'll see a "recording" red icon in your screen during the call. You can click that to pause or resume recording.
If your voice, or the other-side voice is not being recorded, than you have to:
1) Open CallRecorder;
2) Click "Preferences" > "Record Calls From"
3) Try all the options. For me, only "Record calls from: ALSA" worked, but other may work for you, depending on your kernel.
After a while, I got a little problem when answering a call. The other side just couldn't hear me.
I fixed it by going to "Preferences > Advanced > Delay before start recording: 0.3 sec".
Let me know if it worked for you.

I use Call Recorder as well, and it works great. I have mine set so that I only record the calls I want, rather than every single one. Extremely handy for when someone is giving you directions and you don't have a pen/paper handy (or while your driving) amongst other uses
thanks dear legalbrr2. you are greatttttttttttttttttttt. it works like a clock!!!! i was looking for the apps like this and i was totally disappointed finding any solution, till today that i got your instructions. Again thanksssssss
Not working for me in 4.3. Rooted, busybox installed and alsa installed.

Is there any usefull and working tool to record both sides of a phone call?
My phone is still unrooted...
After reinstalling everything, it worked perfectly.

Tried a lot of call recording softwares on google play and none of them did the trick for me. Your method gave me a flawless, crisp quality of my call. Thanks a ton!

Hello. I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus I9250. All I can say: AlsaMixer and CallRecorder work perfectly together. Clear recorded sound. Good advise, man! Greetings from Romania!
Alexander pointed me to a flashable version of alsamixer that allowed me to install it on CM11:

Is it still working on Android 4.3?
I want to root my phone, if it's still working.

Anyone know how to voice dial on the desire, doesn't seem to be any button combination that allows voice dialing ?
Surely they have not missed this out ?
If they have missed it out any good apps like MSVC but on the android platform ?
Thanks
This is a good find! On the G1 you hold the call button, but I don't know how it works with no dedicated call button.
How about this?

There is free version though:

Did see this but does not work on the desire. The first link is close but it appears there is no way to voice dial with a bluetooth headset. Really dont know why this has been missed out of any release as it a well used feature.
Thanks for the info anyway, i am sure eventually it will be included, maybe in another rom update.
Does it work if you press and hold the on-screen send key in the dialer app?
This thread on Android forums suggests the function was available on earlier HTC phones:

No that doesn't do anything. I've just tried the free version of ChoiceDialer and so far it seems very good. I am in a very quiet environment so I want to test it out in noisier areas before I decide whether to get the paid version.
Damn! That's disappointing! It's one of those features I never even bother to look for. These days I assume all phones would have this function.
Good to see there is an app that can do voicedialing. WOuld be interedted in hearing your thoughts after a couple of days use.
Get "Choice Dialer" from the Market. Great program, IMO.
Paid for the full version of Choice Dialler. Love it! I can say 'Play music from ..' and name one of my playlists or albums and it starts playing it. For me so far it worksabout 70 to 80% of the time and I don't have to use a US accent even though the developer confirmed to me it is designed for US voice recognition.
One bug for me though and that is I have to disable the ability to find individual song tracks. It says I have too many but at the moment I have only installed 367! The developer is trying to find the problem but it would be helpful to know if anyone else with the paid version has a similar problem. (Searching for music isn't available on the free version.)
if you have the desire you can go to the voice search app and say "dial so and so _________ insert name" that should work for the voice dial it is already preinstalled so you don't need to pay anything hope this helps you guys
New voice search does it. You have to select us accent in the settings tho. Hold search button, then say call name mobile/home. Done. Works with my eastern European accent LOL

Just posting my general frustration with this.
Just got a HTC desire. My ancient Ericsson would do this and not a so called smart phone. Voice dial via Bluetooth is essential for in car calls.

I couldn't agree more. This is a high end device and this feature ought to be included and be 100% reliable. What were they thinking? Apple made the same mistake with the first iPhone, you'd think Google would have learnt from it. It's a pathetic omission.

shame it doesnt work over bluetooth - just seems to call the last person called instead
When I use the voice search, all it does is bring up a google web browser. How can I change it to call people or play music?
still missing voicedial over bluetooth as I had on my old SonyEricsson with me creating database of sound for names
is there an app with such a funcionality?

Sorry but i cant find any settings to disable google and enable contacks ...........any help?
to start off...I am unrooted, the phone has all of the official updates, and I only download applications from either the marketplace or via appbrain.
Today, I was listening to some audio the evo automagically dialed a 809 number (did a reverse lookup and it was to the Dominican Republic. no the phone number was not in the phone book)
obviously I must have something malicious installed.
I would like to track down application. I used apcat in order to try to search for the telephone number dialed in the log files.... but I dont understand what I am looking for...How do I find what application made the request to initiate a phone call?
my gut is telling me it is an application called rockplayer because I launched it earlier in the day to watch a flv ( ** for the first time** ) .... and I havent installed any applications in weeks... I have uninstalled it and there has been no problem since.
thanks for your time

below I am listing from aSpotCat application which groups permissions of installed applications nicely:
"services that cost you money" came up with:
First Aid ( makes sense to use the phone app as it has a calling function)
Fring (cant do anything about)
google search (If I cant 'trust' google, well then I should throw out the evo!)
maps
sprint terminator (makes sense as it can use text messages to do functions)
Voice Search
Voicemail
doesnt look that bad???

Regarding log files:
Does the application that causes the launch of the phone leave a trace in the logfile?
Seeing the "similar threads we found", I see that I'm not the only one having this issue and we're not the only phone having problems.
Turns out there's a known issue on Google Voice where if the customer adds a line, subtracts a line or screws with their service in any way that requires an activation of the line that's on Google Voice (like an upgrade...yknow like we all did ), that Google Voice can fizzle out. Basically, it automatically unchecks the box that says "this phone can receive texts" which prevents your phone from receiving texts. This also changes the setting on the phone app to route texts through your stock messages app again. This will step-by-step you into changing them back.
Well I got mine working again, and I'd like to share how I did it so maybe it'll work for you.
**NOTICE**
This is for one line on Google Voice only. Apparently this won't work if you have multiple phones attached to the same Google account.
Okay:
1. open up your web browser and go to: voice.google.com. Then open up google voice on your phone.
2. in the browser, click your phone number (top right corner). A menu will pop up and you'll notice the "this phone receives text messages" (or however it's written) is unchecked. That's the bug, it'll uncheck itself every time you go to that screen. Also, when this box becomes unchecked, it actually changes a setting in the Google Voice app on your phone to route texts through the stock messaging app again (annoying).
3. Check that box so that it's one (don't close out of the browser yet, leave it on that screen)
4. Then, in your google voice app on the phone, go to menu > more > settings > notifications and sync where there's a drop down menu specifying whether you want messages received by the messages app or GVoice. choose which one you want (i'm assuming if you're here, you use GVoice). This is the setting I mentioned that it changes in the app (all the way back in step 2).
5. Now you should still have GVoice open in your browser. If not, you follow directions badly and need to repeat the process. If yes, you should have the unchecked box checked (when it wasn't before) and the setting on the phone app itself changed back to normal.
6. While the browser is open, have a few people text you. You should now be getting texts and voicemails delivered to your GVoice account again. This isn't necessary, but to test to make sure you did it right.
Last: once you re-establish that "connection" close the browser and never go back to that options page again (it'll just un-check that box and change that setting on the phone and make you do this all over again). Now your GVoice should be working properly.
*addendum*
If you're still have trouble after this. Go back to the options page where you started, check the box, then uninstall/re-install Gvoice on your phone and go through the set up again...then continue following the steps.
*addendum 2*
If this fails, then disable GVoice services with Sprint and set them up anew using the app on your phone (like you did the first time).
Don't worry about the "can't do whatever", just hit "skip".
Then follow the steps above.
Hope this helps, I know us GVoice users are minority but hey we need people to figure crap out too

I have tried these steps and nothing works..If i change the setting in the app to use the google voice app for receiving text it automatically un checks the box online in the google voice settings. When I recheck the box online the app reverts back to using the stock app for messaging in the goggle voice app. quite pissed off about it but i'm still receiving calls from my google voice number so I guess I will live with it until its figured out.

here's the essential part:
Check the box, but leave the browser window open so you can see it.
save the setting for using GVoice but leave the settings open so you can see it.
Then open a new browser window and text someone using the browser interface in a separate tab. I use Google Chrome and have the GVoice extension so I didn't need to do that.
The idea to get texts moving back and forth while both are checked without leaving so they can't uncheck (which they won't do if you stay in the windows).
Once you get the flow of traffic going, then leave those settings windows and never, ever go back to them. It's a cheap fix and a house of cards of sorts (i've accidentally undone my own work twice), but it does work.
Ok..this is what I discovered for me. I have an Evo3D flashed to boost and I have the same google voice number going to it as I do the touch. I was looking at my settings online and suddenly the box for receiving text to the 3D was unchecked so I rechecked it. Well when I did that my messages started going through the stock messaging app on the 3D . So I decided to uncheck both my Touch and my 3d in the settings online to receive text and now I'm getting my text back through the google app. This makes no sense but its working right now.

I suspect it'll be fixed in the next update or two.
If you didn't mind going through the WHOLE set up process again, you could find and download an older apk and just go back to a bug-free version. I have a transparent themed one and an inverted one from before the latest update and they worked fine before I updated it (ever since, they are screwed up).

Thank you sir...
OK guys, some of you know our work. I am going to the states for their capitalist xmas holidays and will buy one of these silly plastic phones again to check for issues. But before then, we need some feedback on our existing apps. Most importantly Root Call Blocker and Call Master.
Root Call Blocker - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13213850
Market - https://market.android.com/details?id=fahrbot.apps.rootcallblocker.beta&feature=search_result
This is the basic call blocker we make. Uses the same daemon but is for noob users. If you are not a customer, you can approximate full functionality through Google Contact Groups. Use the online contact manager to create your group if you down own the full version.
Call Master: - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1291587
Market - https://market.android.com/details?id=fahrbot.apps.blacklist&feature=search_result
CM is our professional-grade call management app. Its in beta at the moment, so you dont have to perform any craziness for the testing. Just download from the market and get with the program.
Please test the apps thoroughly - this means clicking on everything and then, if you have issues or suggestions, sending logs with detailed descriptions of your issue through the "Write to us" dialog.
Thanks guys. I know many of you will be devs, so hopefully you are willing to help others. On that note, if you need any help, i am always willing to offer mutual assistance
Call Master
This is what I've tested so far: Green Led illuminates when an action is met
Tested standard blocking by adding a specific number: Good
Tested all wildcard entries (455*, ##455*, etc): Good
Tested unknown/restricted numbers: Good
Tested Not in Contacts: Good
Gate Keeper (nice feature): Not working
I tried everything on this one. Had set under uknown numbers, 1 min interval, 2 calls. Did not completely understand the interval setting so I tried both possible situations (2 calls with in 1 min and 2 calls with a 1 min lapse). Also tried with 3 calls/5 min interval. Could not get it to allow calls with gate keeper.
Log sent
Schedules: Works (Kinda)
When a set time frame is set for a profile, It will block properly. Once outside of the time schedule, it still continues to block.
Log sent
Thanks - but did you include descriptions in these logs you sent?
Also, schedules will keep using the last profile in the cue, that is not a bug.

yes i included descriptions
Yep, i see it now. Its an error all right - the daemon seems to be going down when gatekeeper is enabled.
I am going to the states on sunday so i will get the gn and hopefully fix the issue first thing after xmas, around the 27th.
Thanks very much for the help!
By the way, i tried to thank your post, but apparently im limited to 5 thanks a day. What a joke, ill have to take this up with the rd committee
no problem
I see you have the program in trial phase/full version now...copy of full version maybe
I've been using the call blocker for a few days and so far its working great. I tested a few of the settings and no problems. I do have a couple suggestions
I have people that I have blocked because I don't ever want to talk to them again.
-maybe an option to not keep a log in the app of blocked messages/calls because i still feel like i have to go in and check it all the time so an option to not save the history in the app would be nice. right now i had a friend set the password and not tell me it. so far I cannot find a call blocker app on the market which you can opt out of keeping your blocked history in the app.
-also the interface for setting profiles and exceptions took me a while to figure out as it was confusing for me. but that could just be me.
- lastly a setting to automatically reply to a blocked sms and not just calls. i didn't see an option for that maybe i missed it? I use "Your number has been blocked (automated message)" and would like it to say that to blocked texts also.
anyway, thank you for the great app! major stress reliever

Hi. If you are talking about CM, both of your suggestions are already there.
You can stop people in a list from being logged entirely by unticking "Log" in the Blocking action Settings you have added to that list. RCB also supports this.
Also, both apps apply the auto-reply function to contacts, which mean that both calls and sms will be replied to. In RCB this can only be done through Global or Exception settings.
ah great thank you! Somehow I missed that, I still cant find where to auto-reply to SMS. I only see the box for "Enable SMS auto-replies for blocked calls" i tested and it works but only for calls, if i add someone to my blocked exceptions the only options are default, block, block&save, or don't block.
i am using the paid version of Root Call Blocker
Sorry i dont know if this thread is purely for testing and reporting bugs, i dont mean to hijack. If there is a different place to ask these questions I will do so there.
The option is for both! How is the new update?
Just purchased a license for Call Master -- looking good!
Thanks, please leave a review on the market if you like it. Just click the little star icon
So, have your issues been fixed?
Any issues to report with 1.2?
Working perfect here - one issue when restoring app from a new rom flash - quickly moved to restored Root Call Blocker and tested to find not working properly - uninstalled and downloaded again seemed to fix it - guess something messed with root so manually adding to su may have fixed without the uninstall - first class and best tried
Thank you!
Regarding restoring. Yep, this is generally an issue with superuser. Just go into su and forget rcb, then go into rcb and restart the ril or telephony so it prompts for su rights again.
Or
Root Call Blocker is bull shi..t ! big sorry for my bad word

Is that right? I suppose you could do better? Or maybe you'd like me do destroy you? What kind of moron says something like that?
An update has been released:
1.0.6
Only active profiles can now be cloned
Fixed UI issue on Galaxy Nexus that squeezed icons together during orientation change
*EDIT
This is a known issue per Google. Thread on their product forum here https://productforums.google.com/for...A/tMN4y-GZAAAJ A huge thank you to uicnren for finding it!
I can't seem to find other reported instances of this when web browsing so thought I'd try here.
For the past week or so, anytime I make a phonecall there is no sound to indicate the phone is actually ringing. It's just silent until someone picks up, I get voicemail, etc.
Conversely every single time someone calls me I'm having to press option 1 to talk to them instead of just answering normally. (this part is a user option I've since disabled).
Not sure if I did something to settings, if this a bug, etc. It's driving me nuts though so any suggestions would be appreciated. I have not tried a factory reset yet because if I can about the hassle I'd like to.
Currently running 8.1 March update, on the non Verizon version. Bootloader is locked, not rooted.
Should also add that I use Google Voice, so maybe the issue is on that end.
Thanks in advance!

I would first try clearing the google phone dialer app cache and data, reboot, and see it helps. If not, then I would uninstall it, reboot, then dl it again from the play store :good:
Or, side load the April OTA update

The pressing 1 to answer was what made me think of that. I know there is an option to enable/disable that. Not sure about the no ringing issue, however.

I just looked through the Gvoice settings and didn't find anything (that I could tell) that does that. But thanks for the suggestion!
I think it is the Screen Calls option, under the Calls settings in the web interface. Don't quote me on that.
I have the same problem regarding not hearing the ringing sound when making a call. I also use Google Voice. I have not experienced the press option 1 to answer problem.

Okay so I was able to get rid of that (it's the option that asks if you want to hear the name of the caller, definitely doesn't work like I thought it would).
Loaded the April update and still have the issue with outgoing calls.

Same here. It stated happening after installing google voice and uninstalling it.

Yes, that is it exactly! For whatever reason, I was having zero luck finding anything about it on the product pages. Thank you, I'm glad that it's a known issue and not just me.
