whats the different stock and custom rom?
Stock ROMs are ROMs built by the OEM and are typicaly bloated and unrooted while custom ROMs like cyanogen mod are completely independent and debloated and rooted, and stock based ROMs are built from stock with some tweaks and other things typicaly rooted and debloated

There is also (stock) AOSP roms which is the original Android OS without carrier skins and added apps, even lacking Google apps.

well im making this thread cuz im curious to know how many of uss use stock rom
I'm using slimbean 3.0 with turbojb kernel at the moment without any significant issues
I used to run the jelly PAC rom with turbo kernel (which was amazing), but I switched back stock, the performance within certain apps was just so much more better.
Slimbean with lupus kernel and it runs awesomely

I've been using stock 2.3.4 for over a year, yesterday I've installed XDark ICS v0.2 (4.0.3), works great, but I'm flashing CM10 JB tonight, just because I can.
EDIT: I've ended up installing Turbo UI r4, what an amazing ROM.
Hello all, I recently flashed on Lupus and Paranoid Android, and I'm rather happy with jellybean. I know, however, that jellybean isn't great with gaming. So I was curious how difficult it would be to multiboot with a gingerbread rom, if it is possible at all.
Thanks!
From what I've read is that gingerbread can't run on JB kernel like ICS can so we would need to multi boot two kernels which is rather hard but I think the devs are getting rather close with kexec

Turbo Kernel is set to release its 3.0 version this Friday, allowing for GB/ICS/JB multiboot:

I've know that
- 2011 devices are arc, Ray, Play, Neo, Pro
- They have officilal ICS ROMs.
- But only Play doesn't have.
It is right?
Actually I want official ICS ROM,
not custom rom.
Although its perfomence isn't good.
I just want to flash.
So...
there is any ICS ROM ported official ROM of other devices?
As similar as possible official ROM.
Thanks.

Ics beta for play,its official
http://www.mediafire.com/convkey/2c02/hwa6wevxht5aumsfg.jpg?size_id=5
Well, Neo L have (exactly) same hardware as Play (minus touchpads and physicly reversed camera) and it has official ICS. Few roms are based on that ics:
TrueAncestor, ICS Original+, Neo2Play, or you can just flash Neo L firmware if you want the "true taste" of (bloated ) ICS.
There are also Xplaystation ROM and Johnnzy's ROM based on ics beta for Play, fully working.
Working good on any kernel for Play (doomlords, lupus or turbo kernel).

This is a port of neo l official ics with everything worrying for the play. The play version has a couple mods to make it smoother and nicer looking

I know it can be confusing, so it is best to flash kernel recommended by rom owner.
But, i can try to explain:
There are two (2) type of roms:
-Stock (based on sony's firmware)
-Aosp (or aokp, cm or miui)
So, you have Stock gb and ics, but no Stock jb.
For Aosp based roms, you have cm7 as gb based, cm9 as ics based and cm10 as jb based (i don't know what is miui based on)
To be able to boot rom, you need kernel that match type of rom you want to install.
Some version of kernels can boot dual type roms:
Example:
1: ics/gb Stock - can boot ics and gb roms based on Stock firmware
2: ics/gb cm - can boot ics and gb based on aosp ics gb roms
3:lupus v8 jb can boot Aosp jb and Aosp ics roms, and MAYBE that's the
kernel you are searching.
The best way is to search in kernels thread based on rom you want to install

dude, that makes a lot of sense, ever since i installed the kernel that i mentioned earlier i have been having random issues with some custom roms
usun lupus ics v12 720 on verizon xperia play
Gin2jelly bean rom is not recognized by my computer and wom was amazing but i dont like when developers put too much apps in it . i guess the problem was the kernel i am using
ICE CREAM PURENESS : laggiest thing ever, dont know why
[ROM][GSM] Gamer 4 [Ultimate Sony experience], this rom i wanted to install because it has on screen softkey buttons. so i could use those instead of the hardware one, but have to uninstall because the didnt appear on screen and has lots of apps.
SLIMBEAN: WELL I COULDNT INSTALL IT AND KERNEL KEPT ON BOOTING LIKE CRAZY.
NOW I AM BACK WITH THE BEST ICS ROM IN MY OPINION THE TRUE ANCESTOR FINAL EDITION, WHICH I LOVE BUT IT DOESNT HAVE THE SOFTKEY BUTTONS
but now that you clarify this i might try to flash a jelly bean kernel since google claims that jellybean is the one to beat lag.
THANK YOU GUYS FOR REPLYING.
greetings from a real newbie
Well, just to add, if you want gaming perfomance, use gb roms. Ics is stable these days, but little slower then gb in gaming. Jb is only Aosp based, it's good in gaming, but some things are still "work in progress".
Ps: we where all noobs at some point
Ask whatever you want (just do not ask for ETA)

ICSNEO2PLAY thats what i read at the end of all your posts, i assume you use that rom
TELL ME ABOUT THAT ROM, IT SEEMS THAT I CAN ALREADY INSTALL IT SINCE I HAVE AN ICS KERNEL.
DOES IT HAVE ON SCREEN BACK HOME AND TASK BUTTONS?

Eta is asking when something will come out. Neo2play is the Rom that he made and its in his Signature that's why you see it in all his posts. That rom doesn't haven't screen buttons but it does give you lots of choice in what you use to fully customize your phone through aroma installer. It should work if you have an ics kernel but it has to be a stock ics kernel not aosp. If your using true ancestor then that means neo2play should work on the sane kernel
Sent from my Xperia Play (r800x)
True ancestor rom, as my rom also, is based on Stock ics for Neo L (since that phone have exactly same hardware as play, minus touchpafs). My rom came out later, but i modded it more, and put aroma installer with bunch of rom options (gamers like less things installed, casual gamers sacrifice ram for the sake of extra stuff).
Some roms have osb (on screen buttons), but you'll have to search for it.
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
If you really want osb then you can use markphytons nxt ics revolution rom. He removed it from xda but you can probably find a link for it somewhere in q&a section

I was just wondering if it was possible to make a sony stock based JB rom for xperia play? But from what i know Sony has to come out with some kind of official JB first before we can make a Stock based rom correct?
Of course i ask because i love JB on my xperia play but i missed external XLoud, the external speaker volume is Horrible, it sounds like official GB on the LOWEST VOLUME! and also the touchpads those too lol.

Yes unless we get some beta like in ICS but at this stage its not going to happen. To SONY we are a device of the past, not nice but true. So not possible
I see... well is there anyway of making the external speakers louder WITHOUT a EQ
There is someone working on a stock based jb ROM from Sony source called semc debrand engine. It won't actually be stock because it'll be made by someone else not Sony but it'll be closr and have all Sony jb features. Right now its still in beta and not released but I'll link you to the thread
