[Q] Enable Mass Storage on stock Jelly Bean? - HTC One X

Is there any app or command or something, which can enable Mass Storage mode instead of MTP on HOX with stock 4.1.1 Jelly Bean?

No. If you have a custom recovery you can mount it there.

So it's as I thought... This is really annoying, I hated MTP since my Nokia 5530 offered it to me, but I was able to switch to Mass Storage mode. Now I'm not. Sigh... It's getting closer to WP and iOS devices.

Or you can simply flash any rom that is not Sense like CM

Yeah, I know. Last time, I was on stock rom, was when latest version was 4.0.4, then I went through ViperX, CM10, ICJ, and then went back to stock and updated to 4.1.1 because of OTG. I quite got used to mass storage, so I was just wondering if it's possible to bring it back.

Just curious

It's slow and it doesn't support the same functions as Mass Storage like picture thumbnails, changing type of folder (to Documents instead of Music), sorting by date is somehow corrupted, etc...

Thanks

Picture thumbnails show up with MTP. I just tried it yesterday with a Samsung Galaxy Note running ICS with MTP.

Not on my PC (Win7) nor on any system in my laptop (Win8 and Win7) with my HTC One X. Only default icon, but no preview thumbnail. And it's laggy as hell, that bothers me the most. It even crashed Windows Explorer two or three times on my PC...

That I agree. It sucks. Crashed Windows Explorer whenever I tried to create a new folder. :/

Guys, I know you all hate MTP. I know how to activate the USB Mass Storage (by disabling USB Debugging, according to one thread here), but how do I activate MTP again?? I want to use the Sync Manager for a Backup (I am on stock, no rooting desire).

Wait for the new viper x Rom, they going to have a mass storage tweak implementation in the new upcoming update

If you're more into AOSP, CM10.1 supports USB mass storage already.

does anyone facing this issue on Asus fonepad device?
i am not rooted, running stock 4.1.2, no USB file transfer option.
thaks.

Drivers
You have 2 options
You can download the drivers referenced here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307478
I had to enable USB Debugging to get it to work correctly with Windows 7.
But after that you can access both the SD card and the internal memory on the phone through Windows Explorer
Or you can use the Kies software and do it wirelessly. Details here:

I have no problems using a 32 bit PC - but with 64 bit Window's professional, it is as if the phone were only connected to power. Companion link synch program overcomes this problem -- apparently it installs its own drivers and after doing a usb synch to outlook, I am able to use windows to transfer files between the galaxy S 2 (t989) and windows. However I have not found any drivers that permit the Samsung to connect to the Windows 7 using usb cable w/o using companion link first.
I had the same problem and samsung tech support had me pull the battery for 30 seconds. That did the trick, but it has happened once since.

Please help!! CM9 USB Mass storage issue

Hi guys.
HELP HELP HELP!
Sorry, I just have a pretty major issue. I had it with AOKP M6 and I thought it was a bug.
I was pretty excited to see USB mass storage built in to the rom. So plugged in a usb drive, all was well, showed up everywhere, could browse it etc. Sweet.
Next day, wanted to see how much room I have left on my phone. Go into settings > storage and it crashes. Settings stops. Rebooted. Happens again. I can no longer go into settings/storage. Deleted cache, data, fixed perms... nothing fixes it.
Please help if anyone knows about this. Maybe I didn't unmount but I'd hope there's a work around if you sometimes you forget to do so. I've tried almost everything. Clearing settings data etc. Nothing. It just wont go into thy part of the settings.
Thanks heaps guys.

You can't use USB Mass Storage on the Nexus. There's no partitions or SDcard to mount. The Settings app crashing and all of those issues are unrelated, and you're having a different problem there.
Yeah I know. But CM9 has it built in.

CM9 has the ability to use Mass Storage on phones that can use USB Mass Storage.

It doesn't magically give the phone partitions or an SDcard to mount.
I may of been misunderstood here.
What I mean is, with an OTG cable you can plug a USB stick into the phone and have use of it through certain apps. ES Explorer, MX player etc. Without the need for 'stickmount".
Well, I found the problem. With the help from another user. I was using Francos kernel as I find the CM one extremely slow and laggy. That's what was causing the issue.
Now it works. No problem. Just wish I could speed things up just a bit. Really laggy keyboard action.
Does anyone know a fix for this?
Thanks.

[Q] Funky Storage Issue

I've got a Sprint Galaxy SIII, SPH-L710 16GB, no SD Card. When I connect the device to my computer (WinXP, latest Samsung Drivers Installed) I'm able to see files I have downloaded to the storage via the device itself, as well as an .apk that I moved over from my computer, but I'm not able to see the various folders (DCIM, Foursquare, Music, Goomanager, Etc...) Is there something I'm missing here? Phone is running CM10.1 JellyBro.
**In the attached screenshot you can see the various files and folders, when I try to access the storage on my desktop, all I can see are the GAPPS.zip file, and the WhatsApp.apk
I know when I connect mine (vistax64) it pulls it up as a media device should be able to see it under my computer. If not I would look under your media player settings. Or you may wanna check to see if USB debugging is checked on your phone

Thanks. I actually tried that. USB debugging changed nothing. When I threw an SD Card in though, it suddenly was able to see SOME of my folders... I'm gonna do a clean wipe and start fresh, using the CM10.1 Official Nightly. I really need to get this remedied. I'll circle back once I have some results.
Should be studying for my MA Life Insurance license, and not buggering with my phone... oh well.

[Q] how to transfer files to tablet

I am having trouble transferring files from the computer to my Nexus 7. Root and flashing ROM went fine everything else works flawless just can't load pictures or music onto the tablet. I am currently running android 4.3 and cleanROM 1.3 on new nexus 7. It must be something simple that I am overlooking sorry if this is a stupid question I did try to research it and came up with nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Settings-storage-click menu and enable MTP

If you want to do it remotely (way more annoying than with a cable, but once you get use to it, it can get handy)
Transfer rates can be relatively speaking, slow, but doesn't become a huge issue unless you're moving a lot of large sized files (i.e., high quality movies, a library of music etc.)
I use SSHDroid with WinSCP (For windows).
If you run Linux you don't really need WinSCP.
Using this method requires a little know-how with SSH / SCP to get optimal use out of this method.
Also, as a side note, your files are transmitted relatively safely (i.e., it's encrypted).

IF you have not as of yet, download the New Kies (that is only for the note 3) it has the proper USB 3.0 drivers. Also make sure you are using the 3.0 port on your lappy. If you are on an old lappy, it's blue and usually says USB/ESATA on newer lappies they are black so check your OEM guide for which one. USB 3.0+ Boost will have a lighting bold over the USB symbol
Go into developer option and unchecked usb debugging. Then reboot and plug phone in done

I think the person who ask; he wants the USB Mass Storage support which can use in Car, or devices that support UMS.
I have a 2009 Honda, and it had support iPod, and USB Mass Storage, but Note 3 is NOT compatible with my car.

hi,
just to be sure: I enabled "USB debugging" and rebooted, but still can`t access the phones memory from my Mac...
Using Airdroid and "Android file transfer" in the meantime, but it is awkward...
Any help? Is there an alternative to connect to a Mac?

I would love to see this too. I used that app on both S2's I had so I could play music through the USB port on my car stereo. It won't work with MTP
Using usb 3 mode, copying to the internal sd is super fast.
