SOMEONE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!! I Lost everything

Ok I have made the stupidest and idiotic attempt to upgrade from 4.0.4 to 4.1 jelly bean on GSM Galaxy Nexus.
Basically, my phone was already rooted and unlocked, so I made a nandroid copy and off I went into recovery mode, trying to install the yakju zip file to manually update the firmware.
After I installed it and rebooted, it seems like it wasn't installed on some sort of internal storage that was only 66mb and I have lost my SD card and no user settings can be saved onto it. I realised this because if I went into recovery mode again and reboot normally, I will have to go through the initial setup all over again!!! At this point, if I tried to go back to nandroid copy, I could have done so easily.
BUT I made the mistake of trying to wipe all user data again and now everything on my SD card has been wiped out, including my nandroid copy and the ability to restore my nandroid back up!!! So if i tried to flash clockwork recovery image and restore, there is nothing in there for me to restore.... and I don't have access to the 13gb SD storage from phone or computer!!
Someone please help??!! At least I just want my old ICS system back!

Could you be a bit more specific because I don't know how to push a rom or flash it and I can't find my SD card storage either

you clearly didnt read post 3 of juba's guide

I'll try to sum Jubakuba's guide up for you.
1. Boot into bootloader.
2. Select recovery.
3. adb push a ROM-Zip-file from your PC to /data/media/ (adb push $(/path/to/ROM.zip) /data/media/
3.1 Reboot recovery. (adb reboot recovery)
4. Install it like you'd install any other ROM.

You can start the phone and go through the initial set up?
The trouble is your sd is wiped and you can't see it on your computer?

Yip, i think he data wiped after flashing the up date = data gone and will have to start new.
Should still be able to see sd on computer.
Wiping data doesn't wipe the sd card, where did the upgrade come from? this may have wiped the card.
Try re-flashing a stock rom, root, unlock, flash recovery.
The GNex Toolkit makes it easy to do all these.

Interesting Experience with CWM Recover 6.0.2.3

I was wondering whether anyone has experienced the following:
I was on Team Sonic-Free GS3 v.3.0.0. Everything was setup the way i wanted it. I booted into Recovery and created a Restore point.
Right after, I did the following:
- Wipe Data/Factory Reset
- Wipe Cache partition
- Wipe Dalvik Cache
- Format /System
- Format /Data
- Format /Cache
I installed the latest Nightly from Cyanogenmod 10 (12.26). Initially I used an older version of gapps-jb but immediately flashed the correct one. Everything went fine. The system loaded and nothing seemed wrong. After some messing around I noticed it was a big sluggish on my phone. So I decided to restore the phone back to its original setting.
When I went to backup/restore and hit the Restore option, it told me that I had no recovery points! :crying::crying: At this point I started freaking out.
I tried to see if I could flash from the SDCard and I noticed one thing. This was in order to get to the main folder of the SDCard i needed to enter a folder named "0". All the files were there including my CMW recover file. Although it was on the card the recovery option was unable to see it.
After this I decided to do the following. I clean swiped again and installed the Free GS3 version i had on the SDCard already. I booted into the system and saw that the folder "0" was there but also in the main directory there were still folders. In the main portion of the card i loaded my copy of the recovery.
I went back into recovery and and tried again. The restore file was there! :good::good: I was able to recovery my original setup. Unfortunately, all of my pictures and music were still located within the newly created "0" folder. I just copied those back.
Can anyone explain why this happened? I'm very curious!
I do apologize if this has been answered before. I have done a search and have only found scenarios for the SDcard is not seen as mounted. (also dont know if the icons mean anything for the post)
*Update - Folder "0" cannot be deleted. Root explorer says "failed" and Windows Explorer says "Cannot delete 0: THe storage is write-protected". Any ideas on this also?

Was it registering a different recovery version when you flashed CM10 from the FreeGS? If so that would be why it didn't register the backup that you made. (I had this issue or similar to on my Touch) flashed a different rom that used CVM 5.something.. and original was a newer version. Caused me some issues. As for the folder being write protected. Try using root explorer, mount as R/W and then try to delete from there. Just ensure you have everything out of it you want tho.

I actually used the sames recovery when creating and trying to restore. That's the odd part. I did recently flash the newer version within the old recovery. Do you think that may have been it? Although the new one was used to create a nandroid and restore it.
I just tried deleting using Root Explorer and the same result. It's not a big deal since its only 69mb but it's quite annoying knowing I can't.

That is very possible, still odd that it will not let you delete even with R/W permissions set. But as long as everything is working.. Then i wouldn't fuss too much

The new rom you installed is on 4.2 not 4.1 which is probably what you had originally. The new 4.2 releases by Google move everything into the O folder its part of the new Android set up to dual boot devices. If the recovery is not set up to correct for this your phone will not recognize where the files have been moved to. In my understanding only TWRP is corrected to do this, we'll at least in the Gnex it is. Anyone on Cwm has had issues with this. The fix is to copy and paste your files back into its original location. You can not delete O folder it is an essential part now of your system and it's where it will reference everything from and originals must remain.

Thanks for clarification Ed. I've been on TPR for a while so haven't flashed any 4.2 roms.

thanks a ton for the response and clarification! i was thinking about swapping recoveries but i already reverted back to the original nandroid image i had at that point.
and you are correct. i was on 4.1 and not 4.2. i didn't know such changes were made but its great to see dual boot is coming up.
i will make sure to THANK both responses once i reach 10 posts. i'm trying hard to participate in these forums but haven't had time until recently.

[Q] Internal Memory Full

I have recently rooted, installed CWM & CM10.1 -- The problem I have is now my internal SD is close to being full, but I havent installed anything on it yet besides a couple apps and some pictures.. Total Internal memory was 16GB.
When I go to Setting > Storage - its shows I have 12.5 GB of total space, but only about 1 GB available.. It shows apps and other things on the phone such as - APS 293MB, Pictures 550MB etc.. But added up it only amounts to maybe 3GB.. So I seem to be missing 13GB of space..
What I think may have happened (and I dont know how to fix) is.... Is it possible that I did the back up of my stock rom & titanium back ups etc.. all onto my internal SD card ? I didnt back anything up to an external drive or my PC, becasue the instructions I followed did tell to do that, nor how to do that.
So if that is the case I would like to extract those file from the SD card on my phone to creat some more room ?

Even if you did backup everything to the internal sd, a cwm backup is usually about a gig and I have 100 and change titanium backups and it also takes up about w gig so I don't think that is the problem. You should be able to hook it up to your PC and check the folder sizes on your SD card. You can also move the clockwork mod folder and TB folders to your external sd but you will need to set up the new location in TB's preference s option. If all else fails backup everything and copy all pics vids downloads and everything else you want to your PC or external SD, and wipe everything from your phones settings menu. This will wipe all data and game data too so be careful to get everything off it you want. Oh yea, make sure you have sync'd or backup up your contacts. That's a pain in the ass.

I had a problem like that when I first got my s3 last year and for me it was 2 files in the lost folder that were like 5 gigs each

Would it have anything to do with when after I rooted and was installing CWM and the new ROM.. It said for me to back up and save my old original ROM/configuration.. Which I did select back up.. But I didnt save it to my PC, I believe it just saved to my phone somewhere.. If I may need that someday I should likely save it correct ? Can someone give me an idea how to access those files so I can transfer off my phone ?

I don't recall ever seeing that option but it was awhile ago. You could try grabbing a root explorer and look around for a large folder. Es file manager for example. I kept my stock backup for awhile but never needed it. You can always find a stock image to reflash with Odin but I'm paranoid and keep at least one cwm backup in case. You could reflash the ROM you put on when you rooted and choose not to select backup this time. It will clear the phone so as above be sure to transfer or save anything you want. Get a little bit used to the process of backing up apps and reinstalling them when you switch roms cause these devs are awesome and always have new features to try. It goes pretty quick after you do it a thousand times. What ROM are you currently using?

There is a free app called storage analyser in the play store. I didn't try it but it looks like it will break down what is stored and where. Could help in this situation. Your internal SD should pop up on the computer so if the problem is in there you shouldn't need a root explorer to find that. If its not in there maybe to a cwm backup to external sd and flash something new.

what program did you use to flash the ROM? how many times have you flashed a ROM (specifically 4.2.2 ROM)?

I have only flashed once.. Using a tutorial from XDA, I rooted using ODIN, I installed CWM v6.0.3.0. followed by flahsing CM10.1 Rom. (10.1 -20130414-nightly-d2att)
During the tutorial it said I should back up my existing stock ROM incase I ever want to go back, so from CWM I seleced back up/restore then selected back up. It didnt tell me how to find this file and save to my PC or somewhere safe.. so is it possible that there are a bunch of files still on my S3 that I cannot see from just plugging it into my pc ?
I would really like to do this properly and remove everything from my S3 and just start with a fresh ROM again.. and know that what I need to have backed up was done properly onto my PC or somewhere other than my phones SD card. pls help = )
I just remembered a problem I ran into while performing the above steps.. I dont know exactly what happened but I think the version of CWM may have been old.. so I tried to update or install a newer version (followed another tutorial) is there a change there is the old version still on SD card ?

Do you have a micro sd card? This would allow you to completely wipe the device and install your OS

Yes I do have one I can install. (2GB) would you be able give me a list of the steps on how to do this properly ? (or link to a post that does)
Also, I do find I ejoy the CM10.1, is the verion I have one that I should be running or is there a standard version ?

If you enjoy cm10, stick with it. I'm on tasks 4/23 release and its running beautifully
Place the rom and gapps on the sd card, get what you want off the phone and you should be all set.
Check out the link in my signature for more information on flashing. when you format /system, also format /data + media.
Before you begin, go in rom manager and update your cwm recovery. Latest is 6.0.3.1. Or download the one at the bottom of post #2 in my signature link and flash it in cwm (then advanced > reboot recovery to have it take effect before flashing the rom).

Ok, I got CWM updated to 6.0.3.1, I backed up apps with TB and saved file to ext SD and got all my pics/vids transferred as well.. Now I just have a couple questions.
1) When I originally backed up my stock ROM in CWM it would have saved to my phones internal SD correct ? Because I could never find it. I just did a back up again and I plug phone into PC and cant find that one either ? Where would the be going ?
2) Can you link me to a good version of CM10.1 for my model as well as the proper google apps.. I cannot locate.

If you backed up to your internal sd card then the location should be something like storage/titaniumBackup. Inside that folder would be an oddly dated folder with all the contents. Transfer that to your computer as well.
Cm10 and the respective gapps are in the original android development section. You can also find their stable and nightly releases on their website. Be sure to only use the ROMs for your device model

Ok I just installed new ROM and now its worse, now I have less internal room.
Here are the steps I have followed.. (obviously its not wiping my entire internal SD right ?)
- Wipe Data / Factory Reset
- Wipe Cache Partition
- Advanced --> Wipe Dalvik Cache
- Mounts / Storage - Format System
- Install Zip from SD --> CM10 file.
Once phone boots up, I go to Settings --> Storage - Here it says I have only 2.6GB of space available and I have absolutely nothing on my phone yet, fresh install.
Am I missing a step ?

[Q] CMupdater cyanogen 10.1 help

I updated from cyanogenmod 10 to 10.1 with the cmupdater and now my phones /sdcard/0/ all the time and all my other files are taking up space in limbo. I can see all my files in the cwm recovery but the usb access mount appears to be missing now, What can i do about this?

I did search I couldn't find anything that's why i posted. I don't know what to search for now. A lot of people seem to have a problem where the internals get mounted as ext and other red herrings. Perhaps you could help me?

You can use the Aroma File Manager (thanks for the link, CNexus) to look through the internal memory to see what's going on with your memory and copy/delete files.

Honestly, I know this has been answered because I've answered it myself. The 0 folder is created due to.how 4.2+ roms partition your internal, and also partially because of your recovery
To fix it, update your recovery to the latest (i recommend TWRP 2.5.0.0), then copy everything that you need from your internal to your external or computer.
Then nuke your.phone. AKA, format your.internal, system, data, everything except external sdcard. Then reflash your CM 10.1 rom and all should be good. Then copy your files back.

Yeah I have a back up image and the latest cm recovery. I'm not worried about recovery though. Thank a lot for the help.

No I was asking that because in some cases updating the recovery made it so that the 0 folder no longer showed up when flashing 4.2+ roms

Phantom internal storage problem (Stable CM10.1.0 on AT&T I747)

Hi, I just installed CM10.1.0 on my GS3 using CWM recovery from the device after rooting. I'm thinking this may be part of the problem, since it didn't seem like it entirely formatted the internal SD, but I'm not entirely certain. View the first attachment to see what I'm talking about (btw, Misc. got cut off but says 7.07MB).
As you can see, my total space is 12.05GB and it's saying that only 2.38GB is available, though the status bar and storage categories don't support that information (adversely, only about 2 gigs should be used). When connected to my laptop, it says that all this space is being used (view second attachment).
Am I correct about the way I installed it being a problem? Or, is there really phantom storage on my device? It seems that the phantom storage would be coming from the \data folder, but I'm unable to find any problems via SD Maid.
If it's a problem with the way I installed it, I was unable to get Heimdall running properly (on my Windows 7 laptop) with the instructions provided by Cyanogenmod or several threads on XDA, so if anybody could help me get it installed properly I'd be grateful!
Edit: I also flashed Gapps from ROM Manager w/ CWM Recovery after I finished CM10.1.0 installation. Could this be part of the problem?

i'm assuming you came from stock firmware. make sure you have everything backup up and follow the wipe procedures outlined in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2179330 before flashing the ROM and gapps again. cheers

Ok, so you're suggesting to flash from recovery so everything is wiped properly and CM10.1.0/Gapps will be installed at the same time? The first time I tried this, I thought I had put the CM zip file in but couldn't locate it, so I flashed stock/rooted and did it through ROM manager. If you really think that will help, I'll give it a try.

I don't think the wipe recovery actually wipes user's data. Just the applications and settings.
I've noticed that when I wiped my GS3 after I initially installed CM10.1 and even yesterday when I installed LiquidSmooth and did a wipe afterwards it created a folder called 0 and moved everything in there instead.
When I had the phone connected to the computer. Folder 0 properties would show there is nothing inside. but when I browse into it. I can see that my wallpapers, ringtones, music files were still there. So I cut and pasted it to the main \sdcard folder and deleted the folder 0.
Perhaps the same thing has happened to you? Use a file browser on your phone or connect it to the computer and see if you see the 0 folder. if you do your previous data files might be the reason why your phone reports low storage available.

1. when you're changing android versions, for example from 4.1.1 to 4.2, it is always recommended to do a full wipe before flashing.
2. when you're changing from one 4.2 ROM to another 4.2 ROM, you will also often see this multiple 0 folder issue when not fully wiping.
3. never flash a rom from anything other than a custom recovery - TWRP or CWM
please understand what you're doing before you continue.

I've noticed that when I wiped my GS3 after I initially installed CM10.1 and even yesterday when I installed LiquidSmooth and did a wipe afterwards it created a folder called 0 and moved everything in there instead.
When I had the phone connected to the computer. Folder 0 properties would show there is nothing inside. but when I browse into it. I can see that my wallpapers, ringtones, music files were still there. So I cut and pasted it to the main \sdcard folder and deleted the folder 0.
Perhaps the same thing has happened to you? Use a file browser on your phone or connect it to the computer and see if you see the 0 folder. if you do your previous data files might be the reason why your phone reports low storage available.

xBeerdroiDx is right that I was flashing from a stock rom and I'm definitely not having the same problem as you, but if I were you, I'd use the link he posted above to make sure you were fully wiping before installing CM and Gapps. Looks like I'm going to have to do the same thing to fix my own problem though.

I followed your instructions and it didn't work... still shows 2.75GB available after reboot. Any other ideas?

For anyone who may be experiencing this problem, I fixed it by following xBeerdroiDx's instructions and then by formatting sdcard. Be sure to put the rom and Gapps on an external sd and remove from the device before booting into recovery. After all that's stuff wiped, you may put the external sd back in and load the zip files from the external sd.
