Hey there, I use stock 4.2 with franco kernel and wonder which pre-installed apps I can safely disable/remove (with titanium pro) ?
For example I dont need google talk / google+ /chrome .. but will it cause problems if i disable/remove them ?
Is there some list of which apps are really needed ?
it's as needed as much as you needed

These are the ones I disabled and had no problems, pretty sure most of the apps won't really do anything if you disable/delete them. I would try them out disabled first then if everything is fine then delete them.
Alright I will disable them for a while.. removing them would give me ~150mb

Just uninstall all of these. They're just apps in the play store.

Quickoffice is part of 4.2 stock - it's a MS Office viewer - you shouldn't see any negative results when you remove/disable it if you're using Kingsoft.
If you have any other specific QO questions, let me know!
Hi,
Just my two cent, dont delete or freeze FusedLocation (it's related to GPS and network) otherwise your phone will stuck on the bootanimation with a vibrating loop.
Strange that just a system app related to GPS and network do that but it's the case, tested twice (one with deleting the app and another one by freezing the app with Titanium) and I ended to the same result.
My question is this; I have frozen several of the above mentioned.. When we get the OTA updates will that impact the update at all?
When I was with draconian Verizon, the OTA would not occur unless all stock apps were visible/available.
Also, when I tried to uninstall the Google apps from the play store, it merely uninstalled the *updates*, not the app itself. I use TB to freeze or uninstall.
Rooted Nexus 4
I use titanium backup and uninstall a lot of apps.. Live wallpaper talkback pico tts magazines, Books Google music, Google chrome using AOSP browser, weather and news, Google Wallet doesn't work anyways!! Movie editor. There a quite too much to remember.. But No problems at all:good: Most of the ROMS actually remove some stuff...
Btw backup your apps you wanna uninstall.Uninstall it if your phone gives you problem then you know don't remove it!!

Google Play Store (Android Market) v3.5.15
Requirements: Android v2.2+
Overview: Play Anywhere, All your entertainment in one place, Google Play is your one-stop shop for all your favorite entertainment.
ChangeLog:
- You now have the Installed and All tabs you can swipe between. The former one is what we used to have before - it lists all apps installed on your device. The latter lists all apps you've ever installed in case you want to download them again or travel down the memory lane. This is quite handy, and I've seen this list before in the Play Store on the web, so it's great to get it here in the mobile app.
- The All tab contains a handy dropdown with all your accounts (if you added more than one) and lets you switch between them very easily (as opposed to clicking Menu, etc).
- The list of apps you have purchased but uninstalled or haven't installed yet has moved to the All tab... which means it's now mixed in with the free apps you no longer have on the device. I'm not sure how I feel about that - on one hand, I like that it's gone from the first list, but ideally there should be a way to filter paid apps from free in the All list. Maybe someday...
- A few of the stock apps that apparently never got linked to the Play Store before got identified and picked up this time, and updates to such orphans were waiting for me when I fired the Store up. I've complained about this very bug in my last rant, and it looks like someone listened.
- Just like in the web Play Store:
# reviews now show the device used by the reviewer
# reviews can now be sorted by Most Helpful first or Newest first
# you can now filter reviews to show ones for the latest version of the app as well as made by only the device you are using
Installation Guide:
1.Download the apk from the links
2.put the apk on the phone ,don't use adb install *.apk in won't work it will say it already exists
3.Open the apk from the phone using a File explorer (ASTRO for example)
4.it will ask you if you want to replace the current market, press yes.
5.wait for install and voila you have the new market
NOTE:this method replaces the old market.

Troubleshoot:
If you have download problem after Installing new market do this
" Connect your phone to your computer,
set in usb mass storage mode. Look for
a hidden folder called ".android_ secure"
and then delete the file
"smdl2tmp1 .asec". Unmount and you
should be good to go."

Thanks. If you swipe left on 'my apps' it'll take you to another page which shows you all the apps you installed, not just paid. I don't think this was in my previous version. Nice update

Yeah, i had one or two updates, but app wasn't showing it?
Had to manually search for the app and it then showed me the update
Oh thanks so much!!
Thanks. It works. Is there any way to delete installed application history?

I remember seeing my application history on my google dashboard, (sign into your Google account via the web to access your dashboard), maybe you can delete it that way. Not sure if you can remove via the play store...

Anyone else have mismatched calendar colors between Google Calendar on your PC and on your GNex running Jelly Bean. See below:

Same calendar on GNex in Calendar app:

All of the colors I've tried are showing up MUCH darker on my phone, which is a problem because my Exchange calendar is also dark. I know I can temporarily change the color of the Exchange calendar with an app like Set Calendar Colors, but when it syncs the old color comes back.
Any solutions or is Google just being inconsistent again?
For me, if 2 calendar colors overlap, they became black
I'm seeing this issue on the latest AOKP nightly. Google calendar colors are much darker than they should be.
I'm experiencing the same issue, but I only noticed it starting on 8/1. Jeez, I thought I was either crazy or the latest Air kernel was screwing things up. I ended up swapping between diff kernels, reflashing my rom but nothing helped.
Glad to see I'm not the only noticing this.
---------- Post added at 01:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:43 PM ----------
And just to confirm, the event colors are only darker in the google calendar app. If viewing the calendar in your mobile browser, the colors will be correct.
I'm also having this issue on my Nexus 7 with ParanoidAndroid, and this was the only topic about it that I could find. Has anybody found a solution yet?

Thank you, but the colours are still the same for me, WAY darker than in the stock 4.1.1 ROM...
Oh it's your gapps then. These should work http://goo.im/devs/codenamedroid/googleapps.
If not you need to remove GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk from System/app, then do a reboot and/or clear Calendar data.
The JB google calendar has no need for that file. It's an ICS relic I believe. Before using CNA's gapps, I used to delete the GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk file myself post ROM flash, so I know it works.
Fixed now!
I deleted the app data from "Android Calendar Storage", "Google Calendar", the default Calendar, and "Google Calendar Sync". Then I disabled the default calendar app and rebooted.
After I rebooted, it asked me to install Google Play Services, I did, and then the calendars were perfectly fine!
I hope this helps someone

worked like a charm on nightly CM10!

Best Solution Ever!
Well, maybe not ever but this has been doing my nut! I was convinced it was something to do with colours so have been tinkering with my kernel and ROM settings but it's the stupid calendar app itself.

Why do we have to go through a HASSLE to get something small like this to work.
Should either work, or be a simple uninstall and reinstall.

How did you delete these apps? The apps menu in the settings doesn't allow removal and trying to delete them manually with adb doesn't work either.
Code:
adb shell pm uninstall com.google.android.syncadapters.calendar
Failure
EDIT: Nevermind, worked by enabling write permissions in /system:
Code:
mount -o rw,remount /system

Can anyone tell me how do I customize the status bar icons on my G3? I really need to add a button to enable or disable GPS.
Thanks!
On the toggles drag them all the way left, at the very end there's an edit toggle that will take you to the customization screen thing.

I'd love to get it, unfortunately since I rooted my new G3 this last weekend I can't download anything from Google Play. Can you tell me where I can get the APK?

But why can't you install anything from the app store? That's bizarre..the first thing I do is root my devices, doesn't affect the play store....necessarily

It is bizarre. I can access Google Play, find an app, and attempt to download, except that the app never downloads. I get an error 495. I've googled that error and I've cleaned data and cache from Google Play and Google Framework. I've also removed my Google email address from Accounts, cleared it all again, then added my email again. No joy. Seems there are a small number of people with that problem. It's very frustrating with my brand new phone.

Try downloading an app from your browser and not the Play Store app. This has got mine working in the past when nothing else worked.

Sounds like switching Roms might solve that problem. Are you on the stock Rom? Here's the one I'm using, there are only two for now and they are both leaps and bounds better than stock. Additionally, it may be a problem with an older iteration that rom if you are using a custom one

1. Edit your build.prop= change "ro.build.type" from "user" to "userdebug" (without quotations).
2. For the apps you wanna install, say Gmail for example, uninstall all traces of the older version you have installed now.
3. Flash aroma
4. Wipe cache and dalvik cache
5. Enjoy!
Apps:
1. Chrome
2. Calculator **If installing this you do NOT need to delete the TouchWiz Calculator, just delete any AOSP ones you have**
3. Google Keep
4. Google Calendar **If installing this you do NOT need to delete the TouchWiz Cadendar, just delete any AOSP ones you have**
5. GMail **Must install all 3: EmailGoogle, Gmail2 & Exchange3Google**
6. Messenger **If installing this you do NOT need to delete the TouchWiz SMS App, just delete any AOSP ones you have**

Lemme know how it goes!

Hi all,
I am facing a strange issue.
My Nexus 5X does not backup apps, except those from Google. I know a little number of apps does use this system, but comparing my N5X with another one from a friend, there are a lot more.

I have installed the following, but none is backing up.

- OpenVPN for Android
- Keepass2Android
Obviously 24hrs lasted, I have installed these apps since ages.
Do you have any suggestions?
nevermind found it. yeah mine looks OK too, backing up a lot of apps. have you check that your account is selected for backup?

Hi, it finally worked.
I disabled and re-enabled the backup feature, backups got deleted and left the phone charging overnight. This morning loads of apps were backed up! I'm actually surprised how in a couple of months developers are finally targeting SDK 23 and enabling backups.

To know if an app is capable of backup, get the .apk, decompile it and read through the manfiest file
Target SDK must be 23
You may or not find strings about backup.
If nothing is mentioned, backup is enabled by default for these apps
You may see that the dev has blocked the backup. This is the case of Pushbullet, Whatsapp, Adobe Reader and others. It's android:allowBackup="false"
If you see android:allowBackup="true" the dev is just "forcing" the backup
Some apps rely on a different type of backup, like Nova Launcher, which has a "Backup Agent". These apps won't appear in the backup list. Nova Launcher has a backup feature to local and cloud but it's manual, so I don't know if it's really working or not. In theory this method is for older versions of Android.
There is something I don't like about this feature. Apparently the job will backup only apps that were installed 24hrs earlier, and updates are counted as new installation. So if this afternoon you get an app updated, tonight it won't be backed up. I think this is a bit silly. There should also be a way to force backups like on iOS - if I need to wipe my device how am I supposed to get backups updated? (I have root, but it's a general question).
This is the list of apps which backed up. Yesterday I have analyzed most of them, so I was expecting to get a decent list.
