After installing the latest OTA update my CPU load has been hovering around a load average of 15-20 which is extremely high... lots of lag and nothing running in the background... It seems highest when the screen is OFF which is very strange... I installed the OTA update that fixes the exynos security issues so I'm hoping there is something I can do to resolve this... over all the phone is sluggish which has never been an issue until now....
Has anyone seen this? I thought I fixed it with the exynos abuse app (Which did seem to help) but the high CPU usage / load averages are sitting around 15-20 which is extremely high.... with a quad core CPU, and you see a load average of 4 that means you're using 100% of your system's resources (generally) can anyone help? Even though I have mine rooted through exynos abuse, can I load a rom over top of what i have now? (stock but rooted) ? thanks

hi there i got a used galaxy nexus from someone and installed android me 4.1.1 (version 1.6)
now my problem is, when playing intense graphic games (GTA III or dead trigger) i notice the fps drop and rise in the game.
At first I thought the game itself was lagging due to too much happening on screen (such as more characters) but it was not the case.
The game would be silky smooth for 10 seconds then choppy fps for the next 30 seconds... rise and repeat..
it seems the cpu keeps underclocking/overclocking itself... i even tried force closing all my apps before running the game and it helped with the fps a bit but the throttling is still there....
anyone had any similar issues and knows how to fix it?
edit: forgot to add, does your phone get really hot behind the LED FLASH when gaming? Mine gets really hot even on the screen too (On that side of the phone away from the battery)
Stock rom? custom rom?
sorry its custom rom (android me version 1.6 july 29th)
although i briefly remember this happening on the stock rom too so I don't think its a rom issue...
hard to say i can't post in the developer section yet... so i guess here to find out if people are having issues with the stock?
stock kernel if that makes a difference
Wow am I the only one with these symptoms? Hot screen and lagging frame rates? Since no one is replying maybe my CPU has cooling problems? Bit there is no fan haha

Any news about your problem? I have the same problem with jelly beans stock. Playing the game agent dash when the nexus is cold is fine when it is warm slows down, like a drop performance. How did you solve it? excuse my English

Try putting the graphics for the game on low

same problem also there are many persons with this problem.I'm on stock 4.1.1
If the CPU runs hot ( > 64 degrees Celsius), thermal throttling will kick in by reducing CPU clock speed. Works as designed.
You're not the only one who faces this problem - I face it on the stock ROM. The only way to alleviate this issue (not entirely, but to quite an extent) is to overclock your GPU - which means using another kernel that's clocked at 384mhz... which, for me, seems to break VPN (at least it breaks it on Air Kernel - Faux works for a while, then stalls... I don't know the nitty gritty, but that's what seems to happen - YMMV).
I had a thought: what if we enabled GPU acceleration in the developer options and then played it - do you think that'll make a difference? It does, generally speaking, make a difference to the other programs (apart from breaking some )
I recently installed Houstonn's JB port on an Optimus E973 and find the CPU throttling to be really aggressive compared to stock ICS. The port works perfectly for me (no wifi issues, etc), but the CPU will spend very very little time at 1.5 Ghz and will throttle down to 1.1 almost immediately. Its actually so severe that in terms of user experience, JB seems slower when you use the phone for more than a few minutes.
There was some discussion/consensus that the throttling on ICS was dependent on battery temp, but in JB it seems to depend on CPU temp now (throttling will still occur when battery is < 30C). Just wondering if anyone has a similar experience or can shed some light on this change? Thanks.
I am experiencing the same thing. Not noticing performance issues but noticing the throttling.

The throttling will happen no matter what - its to keep the cpu, battery, etc cool enough to prevent damage. I had throttling on ICS but it wasnt noticeable either. Most of the time the CPU would ramp up to 1.5 and get the job done quickly. Since I have upgraded it will only ramp up to 1.1 ghz for the most part (sometimes it will increase to 1.5, but that is uncommon).
I know that Quadrant is next to useless for comparing between phones, but I like to use it for monitoring changes in the performance of a single unit. On ICS, my LGOG would routinely get scores of 7300+ until the phone got quite warm and then it throttled down. On JB I have never seen a score above 6700 and the loss is entirely due to CPU score. Checking CPU Spy shows me that the CPU never hits 1.5ghz throughout the test, even when run on a cool phone.
Aha... found something of interest here.
The odd frequencies of this JB rom have been reported elsewhere.
ok guys I downloaded cpu spy and after using the phone for 10min my phone never hit above 1.5 ghz ... I thought this phone was at 1.9 ,I did a lot of testing and still couldn't get the phone past 1.5 , no wonder things are not as smooth as they should be. I also upgraded to the new firmware it is a bit faster but I see the phone cpu is always around 1.5-1.1 ghz not good to run as smooth , also if cpu the low I'm sure gpu as low why all the animations run slow.
Edit : was playing angry birds star wars check back cpu ran at 1.1ghz -950mhz ...
Edit2: so i ran a anTuTu test and finally it hit at 1.9ghz and it drop down to 1.6ghz and 1.7 ghz for a few seconds. I really feel if this phone ran past the 1.5 it be a lottttt smoother i mean a lot.. just my 2cents trying to help out.

CPU factors
Listed CPU speeds are a maximum, a lot of factors play into that actually CPU speed you will see when running various apps.
Also, the CPU monitor reporting may not be 100% accurate, again due to several factors.
Also for reasons spread around this forum (all the battery threads popping up after the 1st week with the devices in hand)
The default cpu speed governors are likely set to preserve battery and only kick into high gear when the need REALLY presents itself.
Ie to samsung a little stuttering is fine if it means the battery lasts an extra hour in most cases
Most custom roms have different cpu governors in place - designed in part to respond more quickly to system load and increase performance.
My first thread here so I hope I'm doing this right. I have searched the forums here at XDA and haven't found anything.
I have a Note 2 LTE which is running the latest weekly of SlimKat along with the kernel that comes with that ROM.
It has been great but lately I've noticed that one of my cores is at 100% all the time, while the others are around 0. It's like one core is hijacking the other cores work. I have no idea what might cause this and no idea how to solve it.
Rebooting doesn't work. The only thing that works is to flash something. Today I flashed the latest weekly and thought that fixed it. But as soon as I rebooted my device the problem occurs again.
This problem makes my device run at 1600 mHz all the time which makes it run hot and the battery drains. It also becomes quite "slow", comparing to when it's normal.
Any advice is much appreciated!
EDIT
If i look in a activity monitor, there is nothing that hogs the CPU at all. It's around 25%.
The same thing in Better Battery Stats. At least I haven't noticed anything, but I'm no expert.
Hi.
I'm running LineageOS 20 on my F3.
In the thread of the OS, someone recently discovered that the quickest CPU-core (cpu7) wasn't ramping up to 3.2GHz, but rather to 2.8GHz (see https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...i-11x-redmi-k40.4418635/page-37#post-88455155 and beyond).
Somewhere, recently, this issue has been fixed, with multiple people (including myself) reporting that cpu7 spikes up to 3.2GHz on occasion.
Now.... that sounds nice and all.... howeverrrrr.....
Right after a bootup, my device does properly spike up to 3.2, but, at some point it will no longer do that.... rather back to 2.8, 2.4 and I've even seen 1.3GHz as the max on cpu7.
My suspicion is that it's related to the device having been throttled at some point.
Me playing a couple of minutes of Pokemon Go tends to warm up the device enough to get it throttling. Afterwards, even when cooled down again, the device won't ever get back up to 3.2, not unless I reboot anyway.
Any thoughts, or even better: fixes? Thanks!
In some roms you have to set the battery usage of each app to the performance/benchmark setting. And in newer versions of miui you can set battery mode to performance in settings. That allows full cpu performance.
Otherwise the OS throttles the cores whenever it sees fit to do so.
