Want closed till me and 8trix figure what the hboot update IMG is called
PLEASE HIT THANKS.... READ ALL BEFORE PROCEEDING
FIXED COMMANDS HAD A COMMON MISTAKES
Hi, I am a developer from the " HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE " My Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2065615 and I am still a newbie at this developing thing.. So with this being said I am not resposable for anything that could or may happen.*
Now I'm this TUTORIAL I will be providing the links and the instructions on how to proceed on the rooting process
*Requirments*:
-Android SDK - http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
-HTC drivers -*http://www.htc.com/us/support/
-The Su .zip - attachment
-And.... The HTC One Xv of course.
STEPS:
1. On your computer make sure you have adb access ( usually just install android sdk )
2. Make sure you have HTC drivers installed ( remove HTC sync after the installment )
3. With that being said download the attachment file ( I downloaded the SU from*http://androidsu.com/superuser/ )
4. To makes matter safer your gonna need to Temp Root, download this : http://uploaded.net/file/h44f6vni
5.Once downloaded, unzip it to C:\Root. Navigate to the folder in the command Prompt by typing *please follow directions CLEARLY
- *cd c:\Root\stuff
- *adb devices
- *adb restore fakebackup.ab
DO NOT click OK to the restore on the device just yet! Now type:
- *adb shell "while ! ln -s
/data/local.prop /data/data/com.android.settings/a/file99; do
:; done"
(errors will appear, ignore) Accept the restore on the device, then type:
-adb reboot
(At this time, you are temprooted, and the phone UI will be in an unusable state, with temproot shell.) After reboot type:
- adb shell
Verify that the prompt is "#" (meaning root) or "$" (meaning normal user). If it's not "#", please start over. At this point, you can optionally do this ONLY if you want to revert changes:
- rm /data/local.prop
- exit
- adb reboot
Close cmd and start a new one then type
- adb devices
- adb install /system/apps/superuser.apk
- adb push su /system/bin or try adb push su /system/bin/su
6. - adb reboot
7. reboot twice, and if this don't work then please leave a comment and I will explain a new way.
ATTENTION
2nd way to try to root
1. On your computer make sure you have adb access ( usually just install android sdk )
2. Make sure you have HTC drivers installed ( remove HTC sync after the installment )
3. With that being said download the attachment file ( I downloaded the SU from*http://androidsu.com/superuser/ )
4.read carefully
5. create a folder were the superuser.apk and Su file is and name it system and inside that make a bin folder and place the Su file in the bin folder
6.Go to the folder were you extracted root folder in the last root alternative
7.Open cmd in that folder and make sure to extract the files ( superuser.apk and Su file to the root of the root folder )
8.Type : adb devices
9. Type: adb shell
10. Type: adb install ( locate were apk is on your pc.... Here is an Example of what ide put: adb install c:/root/nameOf app.apk , then press enter )
11. Type: adb push su /system/xbin or try adb push su /system/xbin/su or try adb push system/xbin/su /system/xbin/su
12. Use the following command to add the correct permissions to the su binary on the device adb shell chmod 6755 /system/bin/su
13. Adb reboot

Not working
So after we spent all that time I thought we should update people that at least for me this doesn't seem to work, even when we get the UI to break and not show anything there's still no root access. For anyone that does this and breaks the UI, mine seems to come back after locking and unlocking the bootloader. The following commands will get you back to a good state:
Reboot into fastboot mode
Make sure you have the fastboot and Unlock_code.bin (you get that from HTC dev website, you probably already have it) files in the same directory and:
fastboot oem lock
Device reboots, go back to fastboot
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
To unlock it again, then it should restart and be factory reset, which works for me to get it functional again. Hope that helps.

but there is no support for unlocking the bootloader in htc dev , how did you do it ??
Both methods will not work.
1st method is designed for the Droid Incredible 4G LTE, not this phone.
2nd method requires to be rooted before you can even push files to the system folder.

To unlock the bootloader is easy, its like any other htc. Go to htc dev site and choose "all other supported devices" and follow the guide. It'll give you the file to fastboot flash to unlock. We're just working on getting root now. HTC definitely did something different with this phone because none of the other methods seem to work. Seems like there are some smart dedicated people working with us so please be patient and keep a watch on this thread!

I tried to help my friend before he brought it back his htc to [email protected] cuz he bricked his phone. I unlocked bootloader and tried to flash recovery with HTC ONE V recovery thinking it would be similar. It did brick my phone with a warning on boot though i flashed the recovery again with the recovery in sdk platform tools and no longer brick. I know this might not be useful though i think u can flash the recovery with different recovery's till u find one that works with htc one v x just use htc models. Also the ruu is out where is the link ?

I wish that were true lol. I cant seem to get the ruu to run all the way even on an xp machine. I think once it finished sending but then errored out right after.
I have flashed a bunch of random recoveries and nothing seems to work, but none have bricked my phone, my recovery just doesn't work. If someone could decrypt the rom.zip from the ruu that would be awesome and we could make custom recovery from that right?
Ruu:

I know this is old and not needed anymore since you're putting up root tomorrow, but I wanted to close this with yes, I did re-lock, and it kind of almost worked, like it finished sending the file, but then errored out with some other bs. No woory now though, I am back to fully stock unlocked and will test your root tomorrow if it's up then. Thanks again jmz, great work!

YES YOU NEED TO READ THIS WHOLE POST, PROB MORE THEN ONCE TO MAKE SURE YOU GOT IT. YES I KNOW HOW LONG IT IS, I TYPED IT!
*Also note that not all sections will apply to you. I have tried to seperate different senerios using * at each one. Also more then one section here may be needed by you.
the reason i call it a semi-brick is because a true brick can bot be recovered with out opening the case.
first go here and read this for info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838484
now since your here im going to assume that its too late.
*things you will need.
copy of cwm recovery. get it here (the manual install link): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9145724&postcount=28
adb installed and working.
a known good rom, or nandroid backup. here is one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836042 (use odex one)
a wpthis.ko for YOUR specfic kernel (run (adb shell cat /proc/version) that will tell you what kernel you have)
*first thing we need to know is, are you s-off or s-on now?
if your s-off just boot into clockwork mod recovery, wipe the phone and flash a known good rom and be done with it. if you dont have cwm recovery installed. boot into fastboot (vol down+power) you must have the sdk/adb installed and working, and type fastboot flash recovery LocationOfRecovery.img (where LocationOfRecovery.img= where you have the recovery, ie c:\android\recovery.img). once thats installed follow instructions above.
*if you are s-on:
will the phone boot into android? if so your not bad off.
if you want to unroot to return the phone, follow the unroot thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835971
if you dont want to unroot then you have a couple of different options. if you have cwm recovery still installed, just follow instructions above and flash a known good rom. ive been told that boot.img (kernel) wont flash if you are s-on. the way to fix this (temporarily) is boot into recovery, but before you flash run these commands:
(put wpthis.ko in sdk folder)
adb remount
adb push wpthis.ko /data/local/wpthis.ko (specific for your kernel)
adb shell
# insmod /data/local/wpthis.ko (should get same function not implemented error as when u rooted first time)
then proceed to flash the rom. once booted into android skip down to, "now to get back to s-off"
*if you have stock or eng-recovery installed.
will the phone attempt to boot android at all? where is it stuck at?
a good min after it starts to try to boot, type these commands:
adb remount
adb shell
if you can get in shell then theres still hope. back out shell for a second and start here:
put the cwm recovery.img and wpthis.ko in your sdk folder
adb remount
adb push wpthis.ko /data/local/wpthis.ko (specific for your kernel)
adb push recovery.img /data/local/recovery.img
adb shell
# insmod /data/local/wpthis.ko (should get same function not implemented error as when u rooted first time)
# dd if=/data/local/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p21 (now wait a min or 2 to give it time to finish)
#sync (give it another min or to just to be safe)
#reboot recovery
at this point you should be in cwm recovery. follow instructions above for flashing with s-on.
*if you cannot get into shell while booting, but have eng-recovery installed, there might be some options.(however this is all theory)
boot into recovery-
if you are on linux using adb, you can try taking sh from /system/bin folder of any custom rom, chmod 0755 it, then push it to /system/bin and adb shell might work.
windows-
boot into recovery.
a system.img compatible with your installed kernel pushed may work. put the system.img into the sdk folder.
adb push system.img /data/block/mmcblk0p25
then reboot and see where you are. if that dont work, grab the modified miscnew.img here: http://www.4shared.com/file/pUPfrGi-/mmcblk0p17.html
rename it misc.img put it in sdk folder and
adb push misc.img /dev/block/mmcblk0p17
then reboot into bootloader with PC10IMG.zip on root of sdcard and it should run though. if it does your fully stock and get to start all over again.
*if you cannot get into shell, and you have stock recovery, s-on, and post OTA, im sorry your pretty screwed. as of right now the only thing thats gonna bring it back is a full img/update signed from htc thats equal to or higher then the version currently on the phone. (well and jtag of course)
*well now you've done one of the steps above. your booted into android, you have perm root, and cwm recovery installed, just still s-on. dont worry your almost there!
first take that wpthis.ko for you kernel and push it, and the eng hboot.
adb push wpthis.ko /data/local/
adb push hboot-eng.img /data/local
then from adb shell, or terminal root prompt:
# insmod /data/local/wpthis.ko (again you should get the function not implemented error)
NOW REMEMBER THIS NEXT STEP COULD MEAN DEATH FOR YOU G2 IF TYPED WRONG, AND AFTER ALL THIS HARD WORK!
# dd if=/data/local/hboot-eng.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
wait a few mins to be sure its done.
# sync
wait a few more just cause.
reboot, you should now be s-off, cwm recovery installed, and free to do whatever you want. just dont go screwing it up again
* as new methods are discovered, or ones here are proven wrong, i will update as necessary. as of the writing post, 2 devices that i know of have been saved!
good luck!
wpthis.ko for bacon bits.03 kernel: http://www.4shared.com/file/OAcd1bix/wpthis-263221-cyanogenmod.html
before you post with problems make sure you have read this at least 2 times. have this info in you post:
what was the last running rom/kernel combo you had?
list EVERYTHING you have done since that point
which recovery is installed?
what happens in recovery when you type
adb devices?
adb remount?
adb shell?
does it try to boot? is it stuck on splash screen, or does it make it to boot animation? 1 min after you turn it on, what happens when you type:
adb devices?

Thank you, really, for taking the time to write this guide. I shared that dreadful feeling of a brick a little while ago, but made it out alive. I know this will help a lot of people.
I'm not bricked, semi bricked or none of that. Rootrd and running BB 0.3
This is the best guide to everything you would need. Too bad you can't post this at the beginning of every thread or some kind of link on every page. This would answer a lot of question if some people would look hard enough. I'm not some smart phone guy by no means. I just read a lot before I ask. In my further reading I can direct people.with further problems here.
Thanks for all your work and giving me another fun hobby

if you look where im saying /mmcblk0p21 we are replacing RECOVERY with CWM. i do that because i just dont like the idea of trying to replace hboot from a looping system. worst case something goes wrong, you still have hboot and you can try again. screw up hboot, game over! then once android is back up and running we worry about hboot on mmcblk0p18.
you should not state that steps can be changed if people are brave, someone is going to sip parts and cry that their hboot is boned and now they have a BRICK, this is the best post i have seen in the G2 section thus far and i have been through almost every thread(with any kind of importance) in the dev section and 90% of them in general and Q&A. thank you for this post and let's hope people READ at least 5 times before even starting on this.

I have a full, honest-to-god brick in my drawer (executed dd if=/sdcard/hbooteng.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 with a wrong "hbooteng.img file).
I'm really, really interested in some guide or info about how to try and recover the brick. I don't mind if I have to open the case, there's not going down from where I am right now.
By the way, my second DZ just arrived, tomorrow I'll try to S-OFF it again... I will have nightmares tonight.

Well it will take a jtag and a lot of research, since it hasn't been done to a g2 yet. Search g1 development forum dor debricking if u want an idea of what's involved.
I remember talking to gtrab a little about your problem. So did you use the wrong file, or did you type an address wrong? What file or typo was it exactly?
What happens when u try to boot into fastboot, or anything else?

Don't ask me how I did it, but I actually downloaded a web page instead of the actual hboot file I should have used . I did it from the phone and didn't notice. Since I was supposed to rename it to make the typing easier, I didn't notice it was the wrong file.
Anyway, right now the phone is a complete brick. It doesn't respond to any button presses, the LED doesn't do anything when you plug in the charger... A complete brick.

Sounds like you have stock recovery installed, with s-on and no adb/shell access, I'm sorry your pretty screwed. You can try factory reset and see if that helps boot, or to get adb access while trying to boot. Other then that, at the moment the only way to recover is a offical signed pc10img of version equal to or higher then what you have. I'm working hard to come up with something, ill keep you guys informed. I think u said in pm, you have already done the OTA, which makes you version number 1.22.something.

Lame....so how often do they release official pic10img's....? are we talkin a month....or a year?
It took me some searching to find this information, so I thought I would post it here in an easy format. This will get the modded CWM flashed on your Inc2 so you can start enjoying root.
*--*--* I am not responsible for any damage that may occur to your phone by following this guide or any other guide. If you are at this step, your warranty is already void, and if you lie to Verizon to get a replacement, an angry bear will break into your house and molest you quite thoroughly. Those people are the reason why Verizon is forcing locked bootloaders, and why I had to wait two months to root my Inc2. Don't be one of those people. You might be a noob, but that doesn't excuse you from doing research. In short, anything that happens is your own damn fault, and you can't blame anyone else. /rant *--*--*
Now that that is out of the way, the steps:
1. Download the android SDK here http://dl.google.com/android/installer_r12-windows.exe I don't really want to go into details on this, as it is explained on the site and in the sdk itself. Basically, install and then follow the directions here http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing.html specifically the part about the sdk tools.
2. Open the sdk tools folder, select adb.exe and adbwinapi.dll, then copy them to somewhere easy to find. I just dumped them in the C:\ folder.
3. Download http://android-roms.googlecode.com/files/fastboot-win32.zip and extract to the same folder with the other files (C:\ in my case).
4. If you haven't already, download the CWM file from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134520. Extract the main image (not the osx image) to the same folder with the other files (not necessary, but makes things easier).
5. Boot into fastboot by powering the device off, then powering back on while holding the volume down button on the side. It should boot to a white screen, similar to what you saw when you first rooted it. Plug your phone into usb if you haven't already.
6. Open the Command Prompt. Type (without the quotes): "cd (the folder where adb is)" so, "cd C:\" in my case. Next: "fastboot flash recovery cwm-recovery-vivow.img" and when it is done, "fastboot reboot".
7. Rooting the phone is only the beginning. You still need a rooted kernal, and su and busybox. Without these, rooting does you little practical good. To that end, follow RMK's guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160745. That will get you all set up to start enjoying root fully. I would recommend installing ROM Manager from the market and using it to flash the latest CWM (4.0.0.8). ****NOTE that you need to already have CWM to flash the su and then flasht he new CWM. I know, it seems silly, but that's the way things are. Also, a disclaimer: a few people have had problems with the newest CWM not working properly for them. It worked for me, though, and there is a fix on page four of this thread.
Credit goes to attn1 for the modified CWM, xgunther for posting it/original instructions, and crazythunder of Android Community for the original instructions for using fastboot with a G1. Hope this helps
Some information from supersonic that those trying this on linux will find useful. Thanks!

1.First rename your android sdk folder to "sdk" just like that. Dont use quotation marks on anything fyi.
2.Next step is to move the sdk folder to your home folder.
3.Move adb, fastboot, and the recovery image from the link above into the tools folder of the sdk.
4.Open up terminal and type or copy this in there.
"cd sdk/tools" hit enter.
5. "./adb kill-server" hit enter.
6. "./adb start-server" hit enter. should look something this. (below)
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
7. "./fastboot" hit enter.
8. "./fastboot flash recovery cwm-recovery-vivow.img" hit enter
give it some time to flash.
9. "./fastboot reboot" hit enter
10."./fastboot adb reboot recovery" hit enter
And there you go, wait for your phone to reboot and what not and you should have CWM installed. I would immediately do a nandroid of the stock rom. after that i didnt bother messing with superuser on stock froyo because who the hell wants to be on froyo!? lol, so i installed the GB ota rooted version with superuser already because its very stable....found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161411 as i wait for a stable version of rewind, you can then install and update CWM through rom manager to the current version once you've done this.
there you go buddy sorry so long. if you encounter any problems let me know so i can boot into ubuntu and help out. i'd give you a little more details but im on my mac right now. hit the thanks button if i was any help

It took me some searching to find this information, so I thought I would post it here in an easy format. This will get the modded CWM flashed on your Inc2 so you can start enjoying root.
2. Open the sdk tools folder, select adb.exe, adbwinapi.dll, and ddms.bat, then copy them to somewhere easy to find.
5. Open the Command Prompt. Type (without the quotes): "cd (the folder where adb is)" so, "cd C:\" in my case. Next: "fastboot flash recovery cwm-recovery-vivow.img" and when it is done, "fastboot reboot". And you should be done.
Credit goes to attn1 for the modified CWM, and xgunther for posting it/original instructions. Hope this helps

In case you didn't know, AlphaRev X will install CWM for you. Then you can just load a different ROM, install ROM Manager, and update it from there.
I know this is pretty new but does anyone know how to flash fastboot through the linux side I have just about given up on getting the ADB to work in Win 7 64bit

Dumbest solution ever... I was having the same problem. As long as you've installed the jdk file from the link it shows on the initial error on sdk install...
Just click 'back' then 'next' again on the SDK installer... It worked for me.
Now I'm getting stuck on 'Waiting for device' when I run the fastboot command on the command prompt. Thoughts?

I was, but it turns out I didn't have the HTC sync drivers. S-Off, Rooted, and running overclocked CM7 now!!!!!!!
This must be in Fastboot USB mode while doing?
Im also stuck on < waiting for device >
I've tried in charge only mode and HTC Sync mode and neither seem to be recognized by cmd. The HTC Sync software opens when I connect the phone in HTC Sync mode so I would assume the drivers are installed correctly. Any ideas?

Should HTC Sync be opening? I think you're supposed to uninstall HTC Sync, but leave the drivers. AlphaRevX provided a link to the drivers only, so it might be easier to just completely uninstall everything and then reinstall the provided driver instead.
Just tried that and its still stuck... I'll mess with it more tomorrow
Yeah i've been having the exact same problems with the drivers. I have a completely fresh install of windows 7, and it still wont work. I installed the HTC Sync, and it still doesnt recognize my device. I tried using Ubuntu, however it makes absolutly zero sense in my mind, so unless i have a detailed instuctional text, windows is my only choice really. Its funny, this thread is for noobs, yet i can't get even do this, but other phones i've rooted without any problems, and they we're much harder for me. Blah.
I've tried all variations of connection modes, triple checked I had all the files in the right spot, and tried different usb ports and it still wont work... does someone have a more detailed guide for this?
Seriously frustrated about this. S-Off was no problem. I'm triple booted with OSX, Win XP Pro and Linux. Used linux to get s-off but didn't get a CWM install. Window won't allow the driver to install and Linux is a mystery. Anybody have luck with OSX or Linux and want to write it up?
OH, all you people having trouble...you need to be in fastboot in order for this to work. Power off your phone, then power it back on while holding volume down. Then run the commands.

Thank you kind sir hahaha I JUST got done doing that and it worked like a charm! this thread will be a great help to anyone else ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122694
The directions for fastboot are in the OP
Haha, yea. I guess I am a noob when it comes to writing guides. I updated the OP with an extra step for booting into fastboot.
This post is now deprecated there are new ways of rooting more easily here is the link to one of those
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392310
just kept for reference
link no longer works as it is a very old boot img, if you wanna go this way use latest superboot
Rooting your Galaxy Nexus
Download this file contains necessary files and also lastest samsung drivers in case you dont have them, probably you need android sdk drivers for fastboot
Download
credit to @peteralfonso for the insecure boot.img which allows this to remount system and this way install su binary and Superuser.apk
This are the instructions for Galaxy Nexus
they require basic knowledge of fastboot adb and using command prompt/terminal
works same way on linux and windows
Be sure to have fastboot and adb ready and working
extract somewhere and you will get 4 files su, Superuser.apk , boot.img and drivers
turn off the phone
Boot into bootloader mode (Vol UP+ Vol Down + Power) then execute this command, be sure to have fastboot and boot.img on same folder or be ready to type a long path pointing to your boot.img
REMINDER: by doing fastboot oem unlock you will completely wipe your device so be sure to backup anything important
execute this command
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot boot boot.img
edit: thanks chirality forgot the oem unlock
the device will reboot and start in unsafe mode where you can enable adb as root usually on production devices this is not posible
Be sure to enable adb debugging on menu
back to command prompt
Code:
adb root
adb remount
adb push su /system/bin
adb push Superuser.apk /system/app
adb shell chmod 06755 /system/bin/su
adb shell chmod 06755 /system/app/Superuser.apk
adb reboot
and you are done and youve got your Galaxy Nexus rooted
This process does not involve flashing another boot.img, it just boots once with it and after that returns to original boot.img
As usual
YOU ARE PERFORMING THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! I AM NOT RESPOSIBLE FOR ANY BRICKS OR PROBLEMS!
Which wont happen we are just pushing 2 files to our phone
edit2: sorry for the bad paths of adb was too late and didnt notice my error
Don't you have to do "fastboot oem unlock" first before being able to boot off the insecure image? I thought they fixed that with the Nexus S already.
Thanks for the post - apparently people are having problems with the Superboot method, so I'll give this a go when mine arrives today.
I guess this comes with all the usual "at your own risk" and "will void your warranty" warnings?
(sorry if that's a stupid question - this is my first Nexus, so I'm not sure where I stand on rooting, unlocking bootloaders, and the warranty etc.)
Great - worked without issue for me and I can now use the Entree VPN client for connecting into work. (the HD screen is great for remote desktop work)
Minor typo in the permissions lines though - should read:
adb shell chmod 06755 /system/bin/su
adb shell chmod 06755 /system/app/Superuser.apk
Thanks very much,
Chris.
Thanks for this davioxx for putting together the guide, chriscole for the fixes and @peteralfonso for the insecure boot.img.
I'm now succesfully rooted.
It seems Root Explorer needs an update for the GN though. Only opens in the bottom left corner of the screen for me, and is comprised of static.
Sorry for the newbee question, been quite a while since rooting my nexus one...
Do i need to enable adb debugging on phone menu before executing the fastboot oem unlock code and then enable it again after it reboots and starts in safe mode?
w00t!
Thank you
You may want to change the path names on the chmod part, I blindly followed the instructions and the files were in diffrent places from where I pushed them to
But thanks \o/
I haz root!
Tnx, easy like all nexus devices, now need some you tube for that!

Not 100% sure what's going on here. I haven't rooted since I got the Nexus One.
When my phone is on and connected, command prompt shows my phone as an attached device. But when I boot into bootloader, it isn't attached anymore and command prompt just tells me that the commands are unrecognized? How come?

Hi probably you dont have the bootloader driver installed, that has to be done manually at least for my win 64 machine, check this thread about that
Set Up ADB, fastboot and drivers Nexus S it is practically the same for your Galaxy Nexus
Oh ok! I'll look at that now. Thanks fellas
Why couldn't you just....
Fastboot OEM unlock
Fastboot flash recovery
Flash su zip in recovery
(obviously, I'm omitting some steps here like after Fastboot flashing recovery, booting into recovery...ect)
Unless there isn't a custom recovery available yet...
That's how I rooted BOTH the N1 and NS....

How I got fastboot working was to install pdanet, one of the steps is to install all the drivers. It doesn't matter if it fails after that step, I didn't want pdanet anyways
The ones attached seem to only be for adb mode.

Desperately needs help here, and I've looked through a lot of different threads & forums...most bootloop problems are caused by custom roms...
Got my phone online from UK, I live in Canada, been using it since June 2012...everything was fine...until last week or so...
My phone all of a sudden start rebooting itself non-stop. It makes it to the home screen, but after 5-10 seconds, it starts re-booting until battery dies...I did not unlock my phone, nor tamper it in any way....
tried to perform a recovery, failed
tried to perform a factory reset, failed
the only way to turn the phone off and charge it is to go into fastboot and select "power down"
is there any way to solve this problem?? I just want my phone back and function properly.
I've attached some pictures showing software information...don't know if that helps.....:crying:
even just taking pics of software info already restarted twice on me....
please help...
I say warranty, the bootloader has never been unlocked. If you unlock it now and flash roms your warranty will be voided !
Even that you bought it second hand, there is a 2 year factory warranty.....
since warranty was mentioned...i decided to call HTC....
and the tech support guy told me to download this android.process.acore fix on their support website, and follow the instructions...
but since my phone keeps rebooting every 10 seconds after it reaches to the home screen...
How can I install that apk file manually? I would greatly appreciate anyone's help...
It could be pushed with adb commands, but i don't know how that works.....i am a noob with adb
Or tell them to give proper service and not ditch you with a non working solution for you :banghead:

i think it can be done
your phone boots to the locksrcreen, and from that point it does not reboot ? you can leave it there and connect the cable to the laptop. then open a command prompt inside the fastboot/adb folder on the pc
then type
adb install *name of the file.apk
the .apk file has to be in the fastboot/adb folder, otherwise you have to type out the whole location of where the .apk is !

Usb debugging is required for adb.
Do you have time to quickly go to settings -> developer options -> usb debugging and enable it. Then adb should work and the setting persist through reboots.

I couldn't remember if I could ever use adb commands while in the bootloader. I tried recently to push an APK file using adb and absolutely could not do it while in fastboot or in the bootloader.
Here's how I eventually got around it:
ADB has a nifty command script that allows it to wait for the first instance your phone is ready to accept the commands
adb wait-for-device install "android.process.acore or something like that".apk
So, with the phone plugged into my laptop, I opened the folder with the apk and fastboot/adb files in it, opened a command prompt, ran the script and then rebooted my phone.
The adb script said waiting for device until the HTC logo screen started, then BAM! apk installed (even though my phone continued bootlooping).
Give it a shot and see what happens.
As far as i know adb works in recovery (at least a custom one, never tested on stock) and a working OS and fastboot only in the bootloader

this thread will let you unlock your bootloader without htcdev,or let you change your hboot watermark from relocked or locked back to stock.
originally,we used a zip file flashable in recovery. i have found it to work on gsm devices with 1.44 hboot and CW recovery. it did not work with twrp. if the following is too scary, feel free to test the zip files. that thread, info, and downloads can be found here. since not all recoverys are working, these values can be changed with simple adb commands.
advantages
-no hassle with htcdev, tokens,or unlock codes
-no submitting your phones personal info to htc
-the ability to get back to 100% stock without any visual traces or records of having been s off or unlocking your bootloader.
you do NOT need to downgrade your hboot. this simple adb command works without any scary hboot downgrades.
*you must be s off.
*you must have superuser installed(see this thread if you need help installing superuser. use the keep bootloader locked directions)
read this:
this will not work if your s on. its not a way to magically unlock
the usual disclaimers:
use this info at your own risk. if it melts your phone into a little pile of aluminum goo,its not my fault.
credits
-beaups for giving me the echo comand,so yall didnt need to dump, edit with a hex editor, and copy back
-strace for originally discovering the location of the lock status flag(check out this thread for more info)
-kdj67f for fearlessly testing and putting up some screenshots in post 5. thanks!
IF you are an advanced user with adb/fastboot set up and some basic knowlede of the cmd window, you can skip to #2
1)set up adb
-download this file
-install drivers: if you have htc sync installed, you should allready have drivers. if not,you can install htc sync,or install these modified htc drivers from revolutionary (driver mirror)
-unzip your miniadb_v1031.zip file. this is native funtionality in windows 7. you otherwise may need a utility such as "7-zip" to extract,or unzip it. place the unzipped folder onto the root of your C drive on your PC. root means the top level, not inside any folders. so just copy and paste,or drag and drop the folder onto C with everything else that is there. you may want to rename it to "miniadb_m7" since youll be putting some device specific files in here.
-open a command window. on windows 7,click the start bubble in the lower left and type "command" in the search box. xp i believe is similar or the same. doing this should open a small black command window.
-change to your miniadb_m7 directory. type the following at the prompt in your cmd window:
cd c:\miniadb_m7
your command promt should change to "c:miniadb_m7>" provided you: 1)unzipped the miniadb_v1031 zip file, and 2)put the folder on your c drive, and 3)entered the name of the folder correctly ("miniadb_m7" in this case)
-now make sure usb debugging is checked in developer options(you will need to turn it on first),and plug your phone into your PC with a usb cable
-make sure your phone is being recognized- type:
adb devices
if your drivers are installed correctly, this should return your phones serial number. you should hear the "found device" noises when you plug your phone in. if it starts installing drivers, wait for it to finish before typing the adb devices command.
if you get your serial number back, then enter this command:
adb reboot bootloader
this should take your phone to the "fastboot" screen, wich is white with colored letters. this is one mode of your bootloaders interactive modes. at the top youll see fastboot devices as confirmation youre in fastboot.
now enter:
fastboot devices
again, this should return your phones serial number. you should hear the "found device" noises when you plug your phone in. if it starts installing drivers, wait for it to finish before typing the adb devices command.
if you get your serial number back, you can enter the following to boot back to the phones OS:
fastboot reboot
and now, youve installed adb/fastboot and tested youre phones drivers. if at either spot, you have trouble and dont get your serial number back, there is some sort of connection issue. use these steps to troubleshoot:
troubleshooting connectivity issues:
-try a reboot of the PC
-try different usb cables and ports
-dont use a usb hub
-dont use usb 3.0
-make sure nothing capable of comunicating with the phone is enabled and running. htc sync, pdanet, easy tether, and even itunes have all been known to cause issues.
-windows 8 has been known to have issues. try a windows 7 or older machine
failing the above,
-i use these drivers for fastboot and adb(donwload and run as admin): http://downloads.unrevoked.com/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe (mirror)
failing that, try manually updating the drivers in the following manner:
-put the phone in fastboot mode(select fastboot from the hboot menu)
-open device manager on the PC
-plug in phone, watch for it to pop up in device manager.
-update drivers with device manager, pointing the wizard to the extracted
driver download folder from above
note that you can check the connectivity of the phone, and make sure drivers are working by in the following manner:
-open cmd window. change to directory containing adb/fastboot utilities
-adb with the phone in the booted OS,usb debug enabled, enter:
adb devices in a cmd window
-fastboot with phone in fastboot,enter:
fastboot devices in cmd window
in either case,a properly connected phone with working drivers installed should report back the phones serial number.

2)reset your "lock status flag"
to LOCK your bootloader, enter the following:

adb shell
su (if needed to get a # prompt)
echo -ne '\x00\x00\x00\x00' | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 bs=1 seek=33796

exit
(exit a second time if you need to to get back to a normal > prompt)
adb reboot bootloader
verify you are now locked

to UNLOCK your bootloader, enter the following:

echo -ne "HTCU" | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 bs=1 seek=33796
(i would very strongly recomend you copy/paste this)
exit
(exit a second time if you need to to get back to a normal > prompt)
adb reboot bootloader
verify you are now unlocked
*i have tested this on my gsm htc one. if someone wants to test on vzw,ill add you to the credits
mine!
So, this will work with hboot 1.54? And are you sure the memory blocks are correct for Verizon? I will test...
I'm s-off, stock Rom, cwm recovery and rooted.

That was super easy... great write up! This will save so much time getting an unlocktoken and running through HTCdev. Many thanks!

Verizon HTC One here, S-Off with SuperSU but otherwise stock, locked bootloader, hboot 1.54. I just did
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 of=orig bs=1 seek=33796 count=4
and looked at the resulting dump and it has "PGFS" not nulls at that offset. I'm wondering if we should write "PGFS" back on Verizon/hboot 1.54 and not nulls?

sounds like youre looking at offsets 00 01 02 03. every device ive looked at so far has the PGFS at that location. i havent looked ata vzw p3,but t mobile follows that. youll find the HTCU,HTCL,or nulls at 8404 8505 8406 8407.
im not sure your command is showing you the correct location. id dump and look at the whole thing.
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p3 of=/sdcard/mmcblk0p3
Hey Scotty,
I can't thank you enough for this info. I really didn't want to unlock via htcdev and it's been getting tiring making zips for everything I want to flash. This solved my problem and is reversible without record. You are the man and thanks for putting in the time.

Can someone explain the benefits to me of being able to change between locked/unlocked? If not.... That's cool.

For this thread and most people's needs, unlocking this way after s-off saves time. Re-locking just proved it was reversible in case someone did want to be locked again. Another way to get back to stock for warranty purposes, etc...
Most importantly, to prove it can be done!

Fantastic, can this work for HTC One S too?
maybe needs finding correct blocks?
what it is unclear to me is that:
your method to unlock bootloader needs S-OFF, but S-OFF needs Unlocked bootloader and SuperCID, so maybe for HTC One S it's different
thanks for clarification

blocks are the same for one s.
method does indeed need s off. most common way to achieve s off for devices on the unlock program is via intial unlock thru htcdev to install root and recovery. at this point the commands are useful to get back to locked, and if one needs unlock after being locked for some reason. vzw is a bit different in that they cannot use htcdev,so a hack is needed to temproot, then s off. this does give them the luxury of being able to unlock without htcdev alltogether.
its also possible to s off via a java card,or be lucky enuff to find a user trial device that came that way. in this situation htcdev can be left out of the picture entirely.
hope that clarifes it

ah ok...
but since they need a temproot to get unlock without htcdev, wouldn't this be possible for all htc one (s)?
why is it limited to vzw?

technically, yes. you could use a temp root and make a tool for any other carriers device so you would not have to unlock.
however, temp root exploits are typically patched quickly. htcdev is a reliable means of root to make other tools/exploits work. its much, much easier to simply unlock and install root and recovery than to keep looking for softwate temp root exploits.
with verizon you have no choice, since they do not allow official unlock.
Hello, can you please tell me why do i get this error ?
