Titanium Backup can backup/restore app data, but TB need root access. You cant backup without root.

I'll wait for news...:good:

Does the method they're using to root the U firmware work?
Update firmware.
Use Flashtool to flash older kernel only
Root with binary method
Flash back newer kernel

[Q] What will I lose by flashing a custom ROM?

I'm thinking of flashing markphyton's ICS Firmware using these instructions. I'm currently on stock 2.3.4 firmware. What data will I actually lose if I flash this ROM?
Thanks.
Everything but SD card contents
If you backup everything with titanium backup you lose nothing.... Be sure to save your contacts in your SIM.

Problem is is that my firmware can't be rooted so I can't use Titanium backup, any suggestions on how to get around this? About the contacts, does Google not save your contacts info to your account?
Can I somehow root my phone considering the fact that I'm on the latest stock GB ROM?

Search a sms backup tool if you want to backup these, and use AndroZip to backup all your apps if you dont have root

So, contacts are sorted then. How do I backup my apps and restore them as they were on my previous ROM after I've flashed the new ROM?
Backup apps with titanium backup, download and open the app on the other rom and restore everything.

Well doom kernel from what I have herd is about the best GB kernel but I may be wrong... it also has pretty simple step by step that you can follow and lupus GB is also pretty good but when you flash make sure that they are for GINGERBREAD devices not ICS or JB.

Wait. Won't flashing a new kernel mean that I will have to wipe the phone? If so, that won't work as the only reason I'm rooting is so I can use Titanium backup. Is there any way to root it without wiping the phone?

Yes, flash the MJ5 bootloader to avoid any problems. And make sure that you have the latest CWM version. I personally recommend TWRP, latest version also. You should be set with that.

Well, finally we have got KitKat and so I may ask, why you want to go back?
If you want to run 4.3 custom roms, no need to downgrade, go ahead and flash.

flash ofw with odin then flash cwm and restore backup. it worked for me
People are saying you can't flash back to 4.3 from 4.4.2, which is partially true.
Even when you flash the 4.3 firmware, you will still have 4.4.2 bootloader.
However, if you are not really fussed about the mini details, just flash it like you would normally with Odin,
then when there are problems with wifi, use custom kernels to fix it.
Otherwise, flash 4.3 then use a nand backup to restore (if you have it).

MJ5 is a good choice since you can install 4.1.2, 4.3, or 4.4.2 roms.
But for KK roms, offline charging is not working.
Goodluck.
