Hi,
I'm at wits end. I recently updated to GA10, but through a bad flash (I believe), my device lost ALL data for the modem. It now refuses to provision any data. Voice works, and is provisioned correctly.
Have Sprint.
Sprint has tried ##72786, ##RDB, full factory reset, settings -update profile, pushing reactivation, ##123456, ##update, everything. No amount of stupid stuff has seemed to work. My ##data profile is completely empty. Does anyone have any idea how I can rebuild it?

Restore it. Hopefully will get your EFS back.

Well, I'd like to, but apparently restoring it borks the system. So I tried to just advanced restore the datat. It looks like it's all corrupted. Does anyone know where I can find the file containing my sprint data settings?

Sometimes Sprint does have OTA provisioning issues, so it could be a problem with the tower you are near.
Regardless, here are some quick tips on how I would fix it in your shoes:
1) Install Stock, non-rooted software (pick your flavor of one-click). The new GA10 leak is fine.
2) After phone reboots, it will try to OTA provision. Click cancel.
3) Go to phone, ##786#, enter your MSL, phone will reboot.
4) After phone reboots, it will try to OTA provision. Let it. If it works, great. Otherwise, post what error code you get (if any)
5) Go to phone, ##(MSL)#, Edit, punch in your phone number and MSID (not always the same as your phone number, so make sure you have the correct info), click OK, reboot.
6) After phone reboots, it will try to OTA provision. Let it. If it works, great. Otherwise, post what error code you get (if any).
6b) If it doesn't provision, make sure you can make/receive calls.
Nah
Already tried all of that. The screen says: Error: Error downloading data (or something like that)
Sadly, I sent my phone in. I couldn't live with it. I had tried everything I knew to do. Full factory reset, swap esn's on spint's side, everything. Hopefully It's better now though.

Hi! I just rooted and installed CM7 (stable) onto the Incredible. I tried activating the phone via the onscreen activate button and also by dialing #228, but after it says its been "activated" and to wait for at least 15 minutes to go into effect, it still isn't activated. then when i try to use the phone it tells me something BS about connecting to an operator to make a collect call.
i THINK i need to manually program and activate the phone, but i'm not getting an clear instructions on how to do it properly. can anyone here help me with this please? thanks for your time. cheers...
I would go back to the stock Rom to activate.

Reboot the phone and try again. Press *228 on the dial pad, then option 1 to reprogram and enable 3G. Although it says it takes 15 minutes, it should work instantaneously. At least, this method worked for me. Good luck.
Certain that you are entering the right credentials for the google account tied to the device?

if i go back to the stock rom and activate it (assuming it worked), what happens when i flash CM7 back onto the phone? does it still retain its activation? or will the "activated status" go away because i wiped the data/dalvik/cache?
Activation shouldn't go away unless you deactivate the phone through verizon. I've flashed different ROMs and I don't have to reactivate my phone.
cool. i'll figure out how to revert back to stock tonight. i hope there's a "how to". thanks.
Download this:
http://dougpiston.com/files/RUU/bui...and-2.15.00.07.28-hboot-0.92.0000_PB31IMG.zip
Rename it so it's just "PB31IMG.zip" (make sure your file extensions are un-hidden, so you don't inadvertently name it to "PB31IMG.zip.zip"), and make sure your SD card is FAT32.
Now boot into HBoot, and it should detect the file automatically after a few seconds and ask if you would like to apply the update. Press Vol-Up for Yes. Let it flash.
awesome. thanks! i'll give it shot tonight when i leave work.
still no dice
well... tonight i installed the stock image. i'm still getting the "please hold while we transfer your call to an external operator" after activating (whether it be via online or *228). i noticed that there wasn't even an option to activate via on-screen after installing the stock software, with the CM7 ROM it would show an activate button after rebooting.
a few minutes ago i just reflashed S-ON and reflashed the stock image. it's still doing the same thing. something is up with the phone i guess. beyond my know-how and capabilities. the main reason i put S-ON back is so the phone can be sent back to Verizon. i'm thinking its gotta be a hardware issue if i've done everything you guys have suggested.
thanks anyways, guys. its not my phone, but a friend that i was trying to do this for. makes me glad i'm with another carrier where instead of activating, i just need my SIM card. hopefully i'll have better luck with the replacement they send.
Has he talked to Verizon about the problem? A similar thing happened to me with a phone that's ESN wasn't clear (ebay - ended up getting refunded). The phone wasn't reported lost/stolen or anything?
the hasn't been reported lost/stolen. and the phone has been with the original owner.
Well it's not that serious but Im sure my wife is going to kill me if I dont get it fixed, lol. So Im not recieving all my txt messages. Im running GO SMS PRO and I also have Ghostly SMS to catch any txts that Im missing, funny thing, it only catches my VM messages? So any ideas, anyone have the same issues, any other SMS app I can try? This all started after I flashed a ROM way back, not sure which ROM it was. Help please, I really think my wife is going to kill me over this, either that or throw something heavy and hard at me.

At the very least, try going under Settings -> System Updates and update your PRL and Profile (that is, given you're currently running a Sprint-based ROM). If you're not, you're going to have to flash one.
Ok, so I dont have a backup of the ROM I was running before this all started. Im recovering flash-aholic, so Ive been through a few ROMS since it first started.
Im running Mik3D, is that a sprint based ROM?

The best way to check is to see if you have the option I referred to: Settings -> System Updates.
And yes, Mik3D is a Sprint-based ROM and has that option. Give it a try and see if your texts start working. The other option (if that doesn't work) is to reset your data profile and see if that helps.

You'll need to know your MSL (Master Subsidy Lock) code in order to reset your data profile. Downloading MSL Reader from the Market is the easiest way to get it. Do that first, give it Root permissions, and write down your MSL.
Then, you'll need to use EPST to access the phone's Data Profile information. Open the Phone Dialer, and press ##DATA# or (##3282#). A box should come up telling you it's initializing, and you should be prompted to choose either View Mode or Edit Mode. Choose Edit Mode. You'll then be prompted to input your MSL. Do that, and the Data Profile options should load. The first option should be "Data Profile". Press to open it, and information about your device will begin to load. Once it's done, press the Menu button, and choose "Restore". When the warning appears, tell it "Yes" you're sure, and it should tell you it's going to reboot in 10 seconds. Let it (or press the button to do it immediately). When the phone boots back up, it should start provisioning itself. If it doesn't, open the stock Web Browser ("Internet" in the app drawer) and it should then start automatically. If it STILL doesn't, go back to Settings -> System Updates and run the firmware update check, update PRL, and then Update Profile.
If you don't get your wife's texts then, I'd imagine the problem lies elsewhere. At that point, I'd say start from scratch. Using RA Recovery, wipe everything besides SD card, and reflash the ROM. That should get rid of any issues.
I apologize for the crudeness of my instructions, as I wrote them from memory.

This is interesting to me - are you SURE the issue isn't with her phone? It's inconsistent that you'd only not get her texts.
If you've done all of the above and your still having issues, I'd have to say that you've successfully eliminated your device as the possible source of the problem, though I always use the stock app and have never had any such issues.
thanks for the all the help and ideas. Now comes the test of me getting all my txts. So far so good.
Long story short, with above average ROM knowledge, and two previous successful flashes under my belt, I flashed Slimbean JB 4.2.1 Beta1 for my Sprint GS3 SPH-L710, and all was quite fine until I messed with menu/security/SIM PIN. Though I thought I was setting it for extra phone security, I actually implemented an unknownst-to-me feature that upon the following reboot, the phone requested a PUK code for a now-locked SIM card (my phone doesn't have a SIM card by the way).
After a long CS call to Sprint, including International Sprint, I was told to go to a local store. The short part of this story is that no one has been able to help. You see, since I DON'T have a SIM card, I have no ID to provide to Int Sprint for them to find a PUK code for me to enter. Although, I've had many troubles in doing so, I have since been able to reset the phone to stock factory settings; HOWEVER, this has NOT removed the PUK code screen, which prevents me from using the phone at all.
I am out of ideas of things to change, alter or fix to get rid of this issue. I have tried CWM and TWRP solutions with no success. In a sense, although I can do anything with the phone - recovery, download, flashing - except actually use the OS, I would consider this phone as useless as if it were bricked at this point. Any ideas from out there would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have successfully returned boot, system and recovery to stock, but this has not resolved the overriding issue. I don't believe I have tried to re-root since doing so. Perhaps that is worth a try.
EDIT: rerooting after Odin stock flash did not help the issue.

I am afraid none of these tasks worked. This issue must reside somewhere recovery can't get to, and only the OS can. The software is likely built so that a regularly performed task can't override a security issue - even if it is a false issue.

Did you have to contact International Sprint CS or just regular? How long exactly did you badger them? Had you flashed the phone, increasing your Binary count? If so, did Sprint not hit you with a bill after replacement? Just curious, as I have really upped my count due to recovery flashes to try to fix the phone. I think I can still get a Samsung E-ticket through Sprint store for about $37.00. But again, I am concerned about the flash count, and being unable to reset it. Perhaps I should do what I can to really brick it once and for all before I turn it over.

On second thought, your phone may not even allow you get as far as being able to dial the activation number, but just thought I'd throw it out there.

Yeah, I don't have any access to the phone OS whatsoever. Sprint tech has it now; doing some kind of process which includes a 40-minute file extraction and a 30+minute flash. Perhaps that will finally reset everything. If not, Sprint has already said it will then replace the phone.
Received a new GS3 today and I'm back in the game. Thank you to everyone who tried to assist me. In the end, no one on any forum, not Sprint, and not even Samsung could correct the original phone problem. The moral - be very cognizant and careful when flashing any CMDA variant of a native GSM ROM, as there could be settings within them regarding the SIM cards that GSM's do have, but CMDA's do not, or perhaps other harmful settings if messed with or changed. This warning is really nothing new to anyone flashing custom ROM's; it's simply another hard-learned lesson by one person whose adding more truth to the usefulness of such warnings.
Hello all,
I hope someone can help. I had everything working great on Pac man Rom (cm10 based). I decided to flash the 4.2 keyboard and when I rebooted the phone, my radios were dead. No calls, no mobile data. I have this exact problem. After using PAC-man ROM, even after doing a full wipe and everything, and going to ParanoidAndroid, I've still got nothing whatsoever.
I've since tried restoring to a previous ParanoidAndroid NANDroid, as well as ones for the PAC-man and even the stock TouchWiz ROM, all to no avail.
I have noticed that upon the first boot after attempting to restore one of these, a process I believe is called "com.android.phone" force closes.
I would greatly appreciate any help; for reasons I won't mention, I can't fully restore to stock until tomorrow or perhaps the next day. Before then, unless this can be fixed, my phone is completely and utterly useless to me.
Is your about phone > status normal or is there values missing or unknown. IMEI, phone#, MIN etc
I like to break stuff!
So don't be mad at me but I somehow got everything working again without having to go back to TW or even flashing anything new per se. I tried a bunch of things, from flashing older nandroids, to restoring my settings from TB, etc... Nothing worked. At one point, I decided to create a nandroid of my current setup, so that I could possible flash back to it after fixing the issue in TW. I then tried to reboot, but got stuck at boot animation. I went back into TWRP, restored from the previous nandroid (not the one I just made), and magically, everything was almost working. I say almost because I got my data and calls back, but the call app kept crashing in-call. I tried fixing permissions but that didn't help. After another reboot it stopped crashing. Again, I don't know why.
What's weird is that I had restored the nandroid that ended up "working" earlier and that didn't do it then...
I don't know what I did but I am operational once more. Sorry as I know this probably doesn't help anyone...at all.
Good luck to all!

OP says he no longer has a problem, but I do, so I'll proceed.
I'm not even entirely sure what all of these things are, but when I went through the About Phone, Data, and Debug menus came up with some things:
I don't have: Signal strength (-120dBm 99 asu), Mobile network type: unknown, Service state: Out of service, Roaming: Not roaming, Mobile network state: Disconnected, My phone number: Unknown, IP address: Unavailable.
I do have: User name, ICCID, MNC, MCC, P_REV, HTTPPD things, RTSP stuff, DSS Proxy IP, mmsc Proxy, SCM, EVRC-B, Vocode stuff, ESN, HA IPs, ICCID, MEID, and IMEI.
My device status is modified.
I think that I have an IMEI means that I'm not totally boned like (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1997150), but I'm still not sure what to do at the moment.
All of this is from the stock (albeit rooted) TW ROM NANDroid from before I'd done anything more with TWRP than this backup.
Where should I go from here?
EDIT: One thing I've tried to do is flash the TK8 modem, to no effect.

Ok this is what I did to fix this problem and it was the only thing that brought me back 100%
First you need your MSL. To get it download terminal emulator over wifi or thru pc and sideload it.
To get the MSL after you get terminal emulator installed: open dialer and type ##3282# then click edit. Type 000000 in place of the MSL then back out of dialer. Open terminal emulator and type getprop ril.MSL (case sensitive) and copy the 6-digit code thst shows on the next line.
Now that you have the MSL its time to fix the problem:
Open dialer again and type ##786# select reset and enter your MSL, let it do its thing and automatically reboot. Once it boots up your signal bars should be back and you should now have generic sprint info where all the unknown values are.
Now go to settings > activate device and let it do hands free activation.
After HFA finishes open dialer again and type ##72786# and select edit, enter your MSL. Now you need to enter your phone # and MIN in their respective fields. The MIN should be the same as your 10-digit phone # enter both with no spaces or symbols example: 0000000000 then back out of dialer and reboot. You should now be fully operational.
Basically what you are doing is master resetting the device and manually reprovisioning, reprogramming and reactivating your device to regain your missing NVdata
Edit: if for some reason your MIN isn't a match to your phone #(this happens rarely but does happen one of my lines has a different MIN than #) after you get everything else done, call sprint or hop on chat and ask them to reprovision your device and they will go over all the same steps with you ad I did but give you the proper value for MIN if its different than#. If it's the same the steps I listed above will have you fixed

How important is it that my MIN be identical to my phone number? It's not, but my phone (calls, sms, data) works perfectly regardless.
Regardless, you are awesome. Thanks so much!

Only matters if they are supposed to be HFA will usually set those for u but I had the chameleon and HFA errors when I did mine and had to do them manually. My personal line the match but my work line they are different. That's how I knew theres a chance they aren't the same and if the MIN didnt work to just call sprint and ask to reprovision your phone
I like to break stuff!
For what it's worth, after a shut down and reboot my phone is having this problem again. None of my nandroids fix this. I'm on cm so I can't do the fix posted above.
Going to flash back to stock tonight when I get home and start from scratch.

Let me rephrase what I understood:
The hands-free activation that automatically initiates after the radios/modem/whatever are hard-reset will usually properly configure everything.
You had "chameleon errors". (What are chameleon errors? Were they caused by the same thing (PAC-man or another rotten ROM)?
You have two different Sprint handhelds; on one, the MIN and phone number match, on one, they don't.
If it's working, I'm good.
Regardless, thanks very much for helping me to restore my phone to proper working order!

From going back to ljc from lk8 you get HFA on every boot and chameleon apk force closes randomly
Edit: amd yes if you're working you're good. The HFA got your provisioning done correctly. I had to manually do mine from HFA failing part way thru. And yes there are 5 lines on my account 4 all have the same MIN as phone# one has a different MIN same area code entirely different last 7 digits

Hello all,
I hope someone can help. I had everything working great on Pac man Rom (cm10 based). I decided to flash the 4.2 keyboard and when I rebooted the phone, my radios were dead. No calls, no mobile data. I tried the terminal fix solution slick Rick posted in the paranoid android thread but it didn't work.
Does anyone know what I can do? Please help, thank you.

That's interesting. My MIN is completely unrelated to my phone number, and also to my area code, and also to any place's area code I've ever lived.
There seems to be no similarity whatsoever. Hm.
Hey all so I picked up a T-Mobile T999 the other day phone seems good. But she's got a couple issues.
Issue 1 edge only data, checked the about and imei seems intact, phone is rooted/midified and previous owner claims ignorance.
Issue 2 power button. Seems to be software related, only the first time after booting/unlocking phone does the power button read a keypress, it oddly enough goes straight to shutdown menu, not screen off.
Appears to be on a stock rom. Just rooted at this time. Any idea's out there? Obviously restoring my original NV data won't work in this situation as the previous owner is the one who modified this device and claims complete ignorance.

The best place to start would be to Odin flash the firmware. If you want to remain rooted, use the root66 version. Both can be found in my firmware thread linked in my sig. This way at least you know it is FULL stock with no unknown mods or changes.

1. - Can only figure out after your Rom issues are over. Follow Doc's advice.
2. Is your power button stuck or just plain bad ? You may have to take it to a T-Mo shop for repair.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume hardware wise the power button is fine, judging by it's behavior I'm going to make the hypothesis that it is software related as it only registers key presses the first time after unlocking, and only goes to the power off menu. It boots the phone quickly without issues.
If by perchance the previous owner messed with the dialer code functions, will a stock odin flash restore those codes to factory spec?

Yes Roms and kernels can potentially re-map the buttons. A re-flashing of Stock may or may not wipe Dialer code Changes. Especially those done in the NV domain.

Next Step, check your Access Point Network choices. Those typically are under Settings > More. (I forgot where they are on Touchwiz. ) Your APN should be set to FAST.TMOBILE.COM. If it is not set to that one, you need to. Also while there, check on Network Mode as well. That should cover LTE and WCDMA.

Odin doesn't wipe data. If you're still having problems, boot recovery and factory reset. Wipes all user data. Including internal sd.

still no 3/4g ok so how do I reset NV parameters and fix the imei if it was at one point corrupted and not restored properly?
Is it currently zero? If not, does the imei in Settings match the one under the battery?
Have you checked online or called T-Mobile to see if it's been blacklisted?

phone has a mismatched imei. waiting for T-Mobile to contact me back gonna ask them about the original being blacklisted or not. now is there a way to restore my imei?
edit: just got off the phone with customer service imei isn't blacklisted, so now how do I restore the original imei? doing so "should" fix the data issues I hope.
