hey guys i recently flashed 4.2.1 AOSP CM10.1 rom and how do i make my external sdcard work and how do i make my internal sdcard files to show up? thanks in advance!
Do a full wipe and flash again. Personally I've never cared about cm10.1 its just way too buggy for my taste. There are far better 4.2.1 roms out there like tasks aokp which is buttery smooth with zero issues

Show up where? And definitely make sure you're on a latest recovery for 4.2 support. I prefer TWRP.

this does not directly answer your question but I had to reformat my external card when I moved to 4.2.1. So you may need to make a copy of the contents of your ext sd card and then reformat (I did it from within 4.2.1 recovery and now I can read and save to either card.
If you search "xda, android 4.2.1, i747, and external sd card" I am sure your answer/instructions will be there.

Go into the file manager -> hit the menu button and go to settings -> click general -> click access mode -> change from "safe mode" to "root access mode". Should be able to find external SD card in the Storage folder. DO NOT delete anything outside of the storage folder!
Hope that works for ya!

Hello,
Just flashed the AOKP Jelly Bean rom. Everything is looking good, I got all the google apps. But the phone can't seem to find the external sd card (I have all my music on it as well as SMS backups).
When I plug the phone into the computer I can see and browse through the external SD card.
How do I make it so the phone can see the external sd card? I have tried mounting it in clockwork storage/mounts and it didn't work. I will have to revert to stock rom, if this rom doesn't support externals, that's so important.
You may have to try another Rom and see if you get the same thing. I'm on aokp and everything is fine. I have music and downloads on the external sd. This phone supports the external sd but it also doesn't. It can read from it but it doesn't save to it unless you have a mod installed.

Format it in your pc then put it in your phone. My 64gb works great on aokp
I would never release a rom that doesn't support external sdcards. it where i keep everything including my music. it works just fine.

I had the same confusion when I first installed AOKP. I was upgrading from stock ROM, which was Gingerbread originally, I think. Anyway, I found that the SD card is now located at "/mnt/emmc", which is a link to "/storage/sdcard1", so my SD card was still accessible but just under a different directory.
Try pointing any apps you're using that can't 'see' the external SD card to use the new Favourite or Directory to the new mount point "/mnt/emmc" instead of "external_sd".
As with this post - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1727085
Hope that helps someone else!

Okay so when I plug my s3 into my computer obviously I have two options when I click my device through my computer...Internal and external storage. When I'm looking at my external storage through something like MyFiles on my phone it shows all the app data and such just fine, but when I look at my external micro sd through my computer it only shows 3 files (mobile, podcast, lost.dir). Anyone know why this is? I just got a 32gb micro sd and was just going to straight up copy everything from my current card onto my desktop, insert new 32gb card, then paste onto it. Obviously I'll be missing some stuff though..any help?

We need a little more information about your phone to determine a cause.
What ROM are you on and what version of that ROM?

There is a known external SD card issue in that ROM. You can follow the ROM thread here to see if it will get resolved. A number of users are experiencing similar issues and some have reported a fix, but other's have stated it did not work. This fix was to mount the ext sd card using recovery and fix permissions.

In case anyone else runs into a problem similar to mine, I've figured out a sorta "fix". Since all I wanted to do was move files from point A to point B this works for what I need just fine. There is an app called "ASTRO File Manager" that creates zip files out of whatever you want. I simply created a zip file of everything my computer didn't recognize, luckily my computer recognized said zip file, then I moved the zip file over to my PC then to my new SD card and unzipped. Boom everything there! I guess this would also be useful for those simply trying to backup their stuff to their PC.

As I was flashing a new rom [CustoNexus, while I had a 4.2 build rom... if it matters] I noticed practically all of my sd card data migrated into a folder called '0', which is making me unable to access backup data
Why did this happen?
And I thought I'd just cut the data back into the SD card and delete this folder, just want to make sure with you guys that it's safe

In android 4.2 sdcard handling was changed dramatically. The result is that the root of sd card is no longer where it used to be. For now on it's /sdcard/0/.
CWM has not yet been updated to support this, so it will search for backups from the root of sd.
Simply move the "clockworkmod" folder from /sdcard/0/ to /sdcard/.

Anyhow, my SD card was formatted when I've just installed a new rom, so no problem anymore ...
Help!
I was running FreeGS3, then flashed LiquidSmooth ... now flashed back to FreeGS3 ... and I have this weird '/storage/sdcard0/0/' folder which is my old internal storage folder? Not sure ... sdcard0/ has the directory structure of internal, but it's empty.
It's as if my old internal was 'backed up' to sdcard0/0/, and now there's a new internal storage at sdcard0 ....
WTF??
The same thing happened to me, you just have to move all the files and folders back to the /sdcard0 folder, you can do it with any file explorer or you can do it in your computer. There's nothing to worry about

[Guide][How To] Fix Sdcard / Find backups after cm10.1 Flash!
Same thing happened to me like deja vu after i decided to sample BlackBean 7. Seems to be a CM10/AOKP thing. Went back to my stock rooted TWiz rom anyways. If it isn't broken, don't fix.
I just used Estrongs File explorer to move everything back to where they were and deleted the /0 folder.
Sorry if this is a total noob question but how do I free the 9 gigs that became sdcard/ 0? Im now running free gs3 which im liking a lot more. The major problem I have is my internal sd is now totally full on my 16gig card. The way I figure is if I'm not gonna use cm10 cant I just delete it from the card and get the space back? I have an external card but its only 8gig and was using that for storage of music and etc. Im on a sprint gs3 flashed to metro and am wondering if I reformat the card can I flash gs3 back on or do I need to flash a stock TW? Im not really too concerned about the other files on the internal sd as I figure might as start fresh

If you aren't concerned with the files you can just wipe the internal SD card. However, there is a guide posted a few pages up on how to fix the 0 folder. Wiping the internal SD card will not affect your ROM so you will not need to flash anything.

When I went back to TW for a short time mine deleted fine. Try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646108 and if that doesn't work, backup your data and wipe the internal SD.

This is the cause of the multiple users feature in 4.2. When a new twrp gets implemented that can handle 4.2 properly, this won't happen. Oh well he didn't Google search! It happens, especially with this kinda thing. Try googleing but we'll always be glad to help.

Hello everyone,
I spent days looking at this thread doing research on how to root + backup + add custom roms and did it all myself using all the brilliant instructions on the site, so thank you very much, especial to arco 68 who i believe is the guru around here.
However, I recently installed cyanogenmod10 rc1, and it installed and runs perfectly but for some reason I can't access my external sd card when I got into file manager, and also can't move the new apps i download into the external sd. This will lead to my internal memory filling up very fast.
Can someone please explain step by step, and in as basic english as possible how to remedy this?I would greatly appreciate it!:crying:

Did you swap sd card? If you swapped it, you can move some apps to external sd (which is written as internal sd). You can swap it by look at this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41253499

Just search the line that exactly like the post. Yup, you must reboot your phone. Oh, if you want to move some apps to sdcard, just go to settings, manage apps, than go to on sd card. That is the app that can move to sd card. Click it, and click move to sd card. Hope it will help you
