not sure what to say about that, because im using starburst and am getting no where near that much
your screen isnt on that much, but i do see a lot of awake time, so the day is impressive. but i have to assume your brightness level was at like 5% or something? and seems like an 8hour period where you had no wifi or radio no?
Screen is on auto Wi-Fi was off while at work and while sleeping everything else was just texting and brief calls and some status updates via twitter Facebook and G+

Nice. My display on Starburst seems to take most of my battery life, but i haven't had the chance to really test it
You need to show on screen time. That is the most important part of how well battery is......If you do not turn your phone on, who cares if it lasts all day.
I am not rooted and have gotten 4 hours of on screen time being unplugged for 15.5 hours and plugging in at 5% battery left.
Those are the numbers that interest me and I don't think you can get much better then that even after rooting but I would love to see some stats to prove me wrong.

For me this is pretty Impressive, I'm coming from the samsung vibrant and I'm used to getting 9 hours tops with out doing anything on the phone so me getting a full 24 hours out of it doing things that I like to do for me is a big deal. if it doesn't impress you sorry but I'm pretty darn excited about getting this kind of life out my phone for my day to day use!

Yeah bro you need to click on display and snapshot that. The most I got out of it was 5.5 hours of on screen time. Which is pretty good. There are other phones, (gay iPhone), that can get like 8hours of display time until dead. That would be amazing for Android. I give it another 1-2 years and we will have Androids that embarass iPhone. This phone definitely kicked up the performance and added a bigger battery, so it will get easier as we go along.

I have been very impressed with the battery life I've been getting on my Nexus. the talk time has been much higher than any phone I've owned. Here are a few screenshots of my battery life. These two days are pretty much my normal day (lol yeah I talk a lot on the phone).
The first post will be the day that about 50% of the time I was on wifi.
The 2nd post will be screenshots from a day of being connected to hsdpa for the entire day (no wifi at all).
My setup: I use push email, facebook sync, auto brightness, gps on, bluetooth on.
Also, when the phone first came I charged it completely then ran the battery down until the phone shut off. I then charged it completely without removing it from the charger.
Below is the day where I was connected to wifi about half the time:
These screenshots show the next day where I used no wifi at all and was connected to hsdpa the entire time.
I have had mine for 2 days, and I have to say it seems to have pretty good life as well, compared to my Atrix and Note. After reading about all the gripes here,
I was expecting the worst. This battery will more than get me through everything I need to do with it in my day, but I suppose it all depends on what you do with the phone.

Coming from a G2x with a terrible 10 hour battery life, anything I get out of this is freaking fantastic compared to it! I Just wish the devs start getting out some UVed kernels so I can make it longer through the day! I consider myself a heavy user/texter (girlfriend ) and so I'd like to get through the whole day (~18 hours) without a charge I must say, I got to 16 hours yesterday and I was really pleased with that, never had a stock rom last so long without any tweeks!

mysterioustko: I think you're usage is a bit different to the average user. With all that talk time you're using the screen a lot less. It seems the screen sucks a lot of power, and if you're not using it often a full charge lasts 4 to 6 hours longer.

I typically average between 1-2 hours of screen time on an average day. But I talk A LOT each day lol. I'm impressed with the talk time because I've yet to see a phone besides this one that can go 6 hours of talk time in the real world when connected to hsdpa. Also, if you think about it, 1.5 hours of screen time is decent use. It's not a massive amount of use, but it's definitely not like it's getting no use. All in all I have been pleased with the battery life.
I don't know about you guys but im very disappointed in the battery life. With wifi turned on the entire day and no calls, just browsing and chatting on google talk, i got 3 hours 54 mins of screen on time before the phone reached 12% battery. I think thstss pretty horrendous. I was hoping for 7 hours or something of on screen time. My galaxy tab 10.1 has spoiled me i guess. Illl live with it because theres no other android phone im aware of that will give me more, but im kinda bummed about it.
My iPhone 4 has insane battery life... I cant imagine having less. Hopefully they sell larger batteries + backplates for the Galaxy Nexus?

Same here tbh. And the really frustrating part is, I only have 2G where I live so I was hoping to see really great battery life. Hasn't been the case so far though.
However having said that, just last night I flashed XXIK6 and while it's still very early to say for sure, it "appears" that battery life has significantly improved for me. Currently sitting on 91% after 3.5 hours with very, very light usage, IE: 15-20 mins screen on, 15 min phone calls, etc. Nothing to write home about sure, but way way better than before. It would normally be around 80% by now.
It's really sad when the very first thing you do after unlocking your phone is to go into setting to check your battery. Wish I could stop obsessing and enjoy this marvelous device without having to worry about it.
What did you guys do after getting the phone.
Did you charge it all the way to full before use, use and charge at the same time, or let it discharge all the way and then charge it to full?
Thanks.
I would have to say that the GN has the best battery life of any of my previous android phones. (G1, N1, Sensation) These things are very subjective though.

Yeah, and I don't want to lose the thinness of this gorgeous phone with an extended battery, but 4 hours of screen on time? Anyways, can you let us know how that radio works out, I'm not expecting much, but still curious. If it is noticeably better, I will try to unlock+root this phone. I'm just a little scared to brick this 700$ device.
I'm just waiting for mod of web browser that will invert colours. Black backgrounds and white text ...that would extend battery life significantly. I swapped colours on xda app and pulse reader only browser left ha ha

Yup, it's under accessibility in browser settings. Great if you read mainly text-only sites since it inverts image colours as well
2-3% per hour idle
I did a benchmark this afternoon for about 8 hours.
ITL41F rom, rooted + dcm kernel, otherwise stock. bluetooth, HSDPA, 1 gmail sync, and a few background sync that is very light.
idle the phone in home for 8 hours. the battery drops about 2-2.5% per hour consistently.
how long does it last with 'constant use' though?... from fully charged, to then having the screen on the whole time & doing web browsing, video watching, downloading, etc... (with data on, not wifi)

Thats a drastic drop! Id say about normal as well. Did you have a lot of apps that were re downloading from the time you first activated it. After a few days to a week when your done looking at your phone every 5 secs you'll start to see battery improvement haha.
Tonight will be my 3rd time charging it. WIll it get a lot better tomorrow?

It can take 4-5 charge cycles for the battery to really get worked in.
Also, check out the juice defender plus app. Doubled my battery life.

Lithium Ion cells do not get better in any way after a few charges.
In fact the capacity goes down a wee tiny little bit with each and every charge, so your first charge was the "best" one.
Stop playing around with the thing for 5 hours non stop and you will get decent runtime.
Best thing to do with a new device is to charge it up fully as soon as you can. Then run it down until you get the low battery warning. Then charge it back up.
Battery life will likely be pretty poor for the first week or so, then it will normalize.
Deep discharging (to 0%) is about the worst thing you can do to a LiIon battery, because it "hurts" it much more than several shallow discharges.
Also, like I said before, battery capacity won't in any way rise or "normalize" over the first week.
Battery life is poor the first days because you use your shiny new device all the time (i.e. more than later). It's like that for all of us.
My battery life sucked the first few days, It got better though. It really only seems to suck it down if it is hunting for a signal constantly.

You also need to try this manual battery calibration:
http://myhtcdesire.com/tutorials/how-to-improve-your-battery-life-calibration-tutorial
After I did this, saw the battery reading 99% and 98% more often rather than straight to 96% after charged.
Originally, it was suggested by HTC tech support. I did that once every six months or so ... And my battery level is now improved. Screenshots will follow in the next post.
Not bad?
Sync is off btw. And this includes using Maps 2%.
At least with my usage pattern, I am more or less satisfied.
I wish Google fixes the high Android OS Keep awake time!

You need to remember the only thing relating to battery life is not just the battery, it's software as well, hence calibration. After about a week or so your phone gets a "feel" for your battery and gets more battery stats, so it's more accurate with it's readings. That is a proven fact, you need to think about all things.

It is quite easy to gauge a Lithium Ion battery. 4.20 V = full. 3.60 V = empty. Your phone can read the battery precise to 0.001 V. The curve isn't linear, but it's well known what voltage relates to the exact capacity left in the battery.
There's really no room to "feel" anything there, just simple math.

I consistently get 15-18 hours of use out of mine with the extended battery.
But to the OP, if your screen is taking up 60% of your battery, it's always on, your battery is gonna die, it happens. Your battery doesn't get "better" with time. It seems that way because you aren't glued to the device 24/7.
Mine was god awful when I first got it but after a week or so it got much, much better.
I have the GSM version though.

Google need to run classes on how to read the battery consumption pages. 61% screen means that the screen used 61% of the total battery used, not that the screen was on 61% of the time.

Alright first of all, i want start off by saying that i LOVE this phone, both in terms of hardware and software, however, theres is a HUGE problem that i just can't get through and its the battery of this phone...
It is simply unbearable.
I have posted the screenshots. This screenshot is taken after 1 whole night of charging. In 5 hours or so time, I've use the music app for about 1 hour, talked on the phone for about 5-10min and sent about 10 text messages. I didn't do any web browsing/videos/gaming. I have also disabled LTE and turned my brightness to minimum with eco mode on. These small things drained my battery from 100% to less than 10% within 5 hours which i find to be completely unacceptable.
Last night, with me browsing the web on the bus for about an hour or so, it drained my battery from 85% to 3% by the time i got home...
I've looked at the battery life thread and it seems like im the only one experiencing this issue. Also not only does it drain SUPER fast, it takes a good 4 to 5 hours to recharge this thing. Which means it takes longer to charge than to use up even with minimal use...
Do I have a faulty phone and should I get it replaced???
Something's amiss. The only time that I've gotten less than 10 hours, is when I had my work email connection set up to "always connected" and wifi was turned on. Even then, I got 9+ hours of battery life.
Disabling lte is part of the problem. When the phone is in 3g, it uses fast dormancy which LG did not implement very well and it runs the CPU constantly. I encourage you to contact LG and your carrier and complain. don't let them tell you about background data or applications running the battery down. With the same apps running, this does not happen on lte. This can easily be verified by enabling debugging and then capturing a logcat from adb with lte both enabled and disabled. It will show fast dormancy trying to set network states every second. I spent a lot of time trying to get this issue recognized, but they kept saying that it had not been reported and was not a known issue. Let's make it a known issue so they will fix it.
How about actually showing us what you used instead of screen shots of %.... would be helpful...

I don't have the phone, but right off the bat i'd say it was whatever was causing your mediaserver to go nuts. Either some media app, YouTube, gallery etc, wouldn't say its a faulty unit, just mediaserver gone rogue

Well, a little update to this thread, i've disabled every different kind of syncing possible and i've been able to pretty much double my battery life from before, which is a lot better but i still wouldn't consider this to be good battery life.
I've been reading many posts regarding battery life, and it seems like there is some issue within the software that prevents the phone from going into deep sleep which is causing the lack luster battery life. This issue is on both the optimus g and the nexus 4, so i hope the devs may look into this issue when they are building custom roms for these two devices!

You definitely seem to have some weird issue's. My Optimus is great for battery life. My previous phone was an Xperia Arc and this has significantly better battery life without even running it in "eco mode". The only time I have noticed less then stellar battery life was when I had some app's running in the back ground that would keep refreshing/updating which kill's the battery.
Androids usage readings are inaccurate. Please consult this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
From what the picture shows I would guess its your 4G connection. A Hardware fault is improbable. And forget these things like "eco mode". Even if they underclock your cpu it won't give you a real benefit,
I've had great battery life on mine. Even when I've been geeking out on the device for several hours during the day.
Perhaps you are on the cusp of LTE coverage? If so, then the radio can kill your battery while looking for a signal.

I also have amazing battery life IMO, coming from a Galaxy S. I have no LTE in this area so am using only HSPA. Using the phone with casual use, I can easily go a full 24 hours on a charge. Mine's absolutely horrid, I can't for the life of me figure out what the hell's wrong with it. I'll run out of battery after about 12 hours, with the screen time at 1 hour and maybe 30 minutes if I'm lucky? The phone drinks away my battery in standby mode like a former alcoholic united with an opened beer. When I was on ICS, turning off 4G every time the screen was off with the AutomateIt app would give me excellent battery life. Ever since Jelly Bean, it doesn't seem to make a difference. I just don't even bother using AutomateIt anymore, I even uninstalled it. Useless. I check marked the option, "Restrict Background Data," but I actually had worse results with that on even. Following the thread about the Guide to good battery life, I turned off auto-sync. The only thing that seems to do for me is not get my emails in real time. No effect on the battery though. I'm guessing the battery drain has something to do with being on data (even though turning it off doesn't seem to do much) because everytime I go to school where there's little WiFi, battery's worse. Also, somehow my Messaging app takes up more battery than the screen. What's with that? I'll text every now and then, but it shouldn't eat away my battery like a fat man with the last batch of Twinkies. Enough with the dumb similes, haha, but I actually need help with this. I really don't wanna buy a battery off eBay cause the damn people are too lazy to send you the battery until a month passes, and I hate charging in the middle of the day.
I'm on 100% stock. I used to root and mess around with a ton of ROMs, but then I realized all my favourite ROMs were the ones closest to stock...
.... look at the eBay expected arrival and/or look for a seller in the USA ?
Anyway, that bit aside - have you installed something like BetterBatteryStats to be able to see what the problem is so you can fix it ?

5 hours... how !?
Easy !
I'm on stock and if I'm almost all the day on WIFI, not playing too much games, and with auto-brightness,
I can get 5 to 6 hours screen time.
(but on 4G all the day, it's more around 3 hours screen time)
This is what most people get with normal use around 14 to 16 hours and 4 to 5 hours screen time. I think the biggest issue is that 4G radio that most people have on all the time. I I have wifi everywhere so most of the time I have mine off that helps a ton. Plus all the sync stuff off, I get about 6 hours over 17 hours battery life and about 30 to 40% brightness.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
14-16 is what was normal for me when I first got my GS3 (after JB update). If you want more battery life, I recommend trying juice defender (custom settings for data off while locked). If you have stretches where you don't use your phone it works really well. Just thought I would throw that out there.
