[Q] Help with custom rom and kernel - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

right now i have the stock rom installed (touchwiz) so i did not change the rom or something, but i installed an oc that overclocks the processor to 1.8GHZ, if i flash the revolution rom, is that ok? can i do that with the overclock applied? i don't want to destroy this device i just got it a couple of days ago and i want to have the revolution rom with 1.8ghz oc, so i installed the oc fist now i need to flash.

Please help!!
Can i just flash the ROM or do i need to do something about the kernel before

If im not mistaken, you need to have rooted before you can use those overclock apps.
If your devices still remain stock kernel and stock rom. Please go to stickies or dr.ketan thread and follow the guide root the devices and install cwm. Then you can flash anything you want.

My device is rooted and I am using a custom kernel. I want to flash the revolution ROM. And also have the custom kernel installed. Do I have to return the kernel to stock to flash? Or can I just flash the ROM

Update: I have successfully flashed revolution ROM on my note. I now want to use a custom oc kernel clocking the processor at 1.8GHz. Is there any risk in that? Before I installed the ROM is was just fine, but i don't know if it's compatible with the revolution ROM.

Since you have fully devices at the moment. You can download persues or notecore kernel to achieved 1.8ghz speed.

Im not very sure about the risk of overclock proccesor at higher speed. Since im never use this at all because of our note have sufficient speed and responsive to handle all kind of task.

OK I over clocked it and for some reason the performance is terrible. I did a factory reset and flashed the ROM again and every thing sense to be working fine. But one thing top be noted is that after the over clock i did the phone performance was terrible but benchmark scores were remarkable. I secord 7900 on quadrant which is pretty sick. So i guess I'll Hyatt stick with the revolution ROM with no over clock.

Peak speeds are just one factor, usually not very useful apart from benchmarks. Latency and responsiveness (ie. How the CPU ramps up a reacts to loads) is far more important in perceived smoothness.

[Q] overclocking g2 with sense

please bear with me as im pretty new to this.
so a few weeks ago, i rooted my g2 and installed sense ui (desire z rom)
now i tried to overclock with the kernel from the unlockr page titled "How To: Overclock your perm rooted/ s-off T-Mobile MyTouch 4G or T-Mobile G2."
the overclock works great except for one thing, the video player doesnt work. none of the videos whether i made them or from youtube will work.
id like to know if i did something wrong.
You have to do a lot of research on which rom and or kernel you get they all have things that dont work... Either videos, blutooth, number keys during calls.....

As shortlived said you can flash karnels and overclock your phone but some things will not work, especially video playback. Read some threads and you will get an idea. Also you can try Virtuous you can download the advance karnel(You can overclock to 1.5 ghz) and everything should work fine.

now that's figured out, has anyone successfully overclocked the g2 with sense or is it better to overclock with the stock rom?
Overclock kernal always can't support video playback well. Maybe you can try one by one to find a suitable

Okay it matters what sense your talking about. Gingerbread sense right now works with the stock sense karnel and sense 2.2 in the other hand can be overclocked ( Use Virtuous since you can download the advance karnel and overclock to 1.5 GHZ and like I said before everything should work.) As for stock Rom, I wouldn't waste my time since there is CM7 or CM6 is better. Also you can overclock both to to 1.5 ghz

Kernels are linked to the ROM being used, not to the hardware. Therefore, you need to be specific and tell us which ROM you used (as the reply above also mentioned). Different custom ROMs often have recommended kernels. Another thing, Froyo kernels are not the same as Gingerbread kernels. Plus, the kernels for Sense based ROMs are different from the vanilla (non-Sense) flavored. The kernel you mentioned appears to be for the stock G2 ROM (non-Sense). That is probably the main reason why things aren't working right.
If you are on Virtuous, then flash one of the Virtuous kernels. Virtuous comes with a 1 GHz overclock, no kernel flashing required. But since you've flashed another kernel, you should be able to flash the Standard kernel to get back to it). Or you can flash the "Advanced" Virtuous kernel for more OC options.

If you are on a stock Sense Froyo ROM, the Godspeed kernel works great.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847724&highlight=KERNAL
If you are on some other custom Sense ROM, read the thread for that ROM, to see what kernels are recommended.
Or if you want to get real crazy you can flash the 1.8ghz kernel just dont expect everything to work.

[Q] Gingerbread Kernels that Support OC/UV

Hi there, I'm running Oxygen 2.1.6. on my Desire, and I'm trying to squeeze a little bit more out of my battery, and owning a Galaxy S as well, with the Galaxy, there are Kernels that Support OC/UV.
I'm wondering if there are any good kernels for Oxygen 2.1.6 (Gingerbread) that support OC/UV Thanks.
snq- 0.6 kernel supports oc/uv I think
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I saw those, but I'm unfamiliar with how to flash these files. I'm used to having a zip file to either flash in CWM, or in Odin ( which the desire doesn't use)
The files in SNQ's are Z-images and .ko's...
I'm more familiar with the more n00b way of flashing kernels :X terribly sorry.

That is a Sense kernel. It is sometimes better not to write anything than to post an erroneous info. And furthermore, uv doesn't work properly with it.

What more do you want from Oxygen? Thalamus kernel supports both uvoc and is probably most efficient kernel as is.
Flash newest oxygen with newest kernel. And I am pretty sure, you will be very happy it. I tested many rom/kernel combinations with software like setcpu und low-voltage-scripts. With oxygen I only reduced maximal cpu frequeny to 768 mhz and min 245 mhz with the included cpu controller and do not get a worse battery life with other roms.
Nice, I'll give it a test. Thanks

I need overclock

I am rooted and using calkulin 2.0.1 with rogue rom. I want to be able to over clock to 1.6ghz what am i not doing, do I need a different kernel, will a different kernel work with this rom! please help me. please give me the steps to take, Im a newby.
You can use tegrak while on a "stock" kernel to OC, but it won't get you to 1.6. Try this kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1341564
Its the overclockable version of what your on(don't think its Ek02 but it'll still run great). I'd suggest not going over the 1.5 increment until you have a good feel that things are stable though. If you decide to flash the OC supported kernel you can use a few programs to do so(setcpu, Rom toolbox etc)

thanx man, I just downloaded it and place it on my sdcard, what should i do when i go into clockwork mod to install it, what steps to take.
Why do you need to overclock? What can't your phone do at 1.2 that you think it will do at 1.6? That is, besides completely meaningless benchmarks...

Kernel for stock kitkat 4.4.2?

Hi all, today I unlocked boot loader and rooted my nexus 7 2013 WiFi. At the moment I am sticking to stock ROM until I get more internet data from my ISP then I can flash a custom ROM.
Anyway what kernel would you recommended for stock KitKat 4.4.2 ROM in the mean time, or is it not worth changing and I'm better just waiting to flash custom ROM+kernel?
I was hoping for a more performance based one and would like to overclock both CPU and GPU, of course performance+battery contradict each other but if I could also have good-very good battery life and faster performance then even better.
Also what apps are you using for over clocking CPU/GPU?
Please suggest thanks

Best ROM/kernel threads are frowned upon at XDA.
As far as overclocking app, I use Tasker. I use it for setting the kernel tunables also.
kernel
I use elementalx with stock. Great performance and battery life.

[Q] RE: Overclocking kernel on stock ROM?

Hello,
I recently just got my hands on a HTC One M8, it's rooted, unlocked and S-OFF however CPU is limited to 2.2Ghz and I wish to attempt to achieve 2.5Ghz.
Is there some way I can increase it so it lets me clock this high without changing my ROM since stock is absolutely fine for me. I noticed CheckM8 but the instructions on their github looked a bit too much just for 0.3Ghz increase.
Any easier way? I thought it wouldn't lock since my old Desire HD was a 1Ghz CPU but maximum was 2Ghz so thought this would have some leeway.
Thanks,
Chris
Anyone? I tried flashing CheckM8 latest 2.5 OC kernel but it just boots/reboots to boot loader and I have to restore a nandroid. :/
Flash elementalx kernel. You can overclock your device to 2.8 ghz.But I don't recommend it.This device is fast like hell!
