"unofficial" S3 AOKP Q/A thread..

It's obvious why I made this. Post all your questions here and hopefully they will get answered. Be patient!
I'll start the thread..
Q: When group messaging with GO SMS PRO (only app I know of that works with iPhone's for group chat) after a few minutes my group messages disappear and all I see are random single digit numbers instead of my contacts with the conversations separated in them. Only occurs for group messages, not individual messaging. Why is this? Something to do with data stability? I'd take an SS, but I cleared all of them earlier. When it happens again I'll take an SS.

Running AOKP and loving it. But can someone tell me what the "swagger" toggle does?

Quick question. If I want to "theme" my bar so that the At&t 4G LTE logo is used instead of the current one on AOKP, How can I do this?
Is there something to download/install?

Does anyone know why I don't have the Motion settings available? I was first advised to reflash, but I found that there was newer version of the ROM available, but even after upgrading to that the motion settings are still not there. Any fix?

1) Because AOKP isn't touchwhiz
2) Flash stock rom if you want that option.

1- what is the difference between Sammy (Kernel), and AOKP Task & Ktoonsez Run train (rom) ?
2- do you flash AOKP Task & Ktoonsez Run train (rom) then Sammy (Kernel) ?

Bluetooth to headunit
so I'm running latest aokp by task650 &ktoonsez for my sgs3 att, so the issue is when i use poweramp (latest version available on play store) it wont send track info to my head unit, i had someone suggest to go to misc - tweaks and enable both Bluetooth options but i tried that and still just says stop on the head unit. anybody have any ideas? it worked fine in stock rom.

Still having issues with aosp cam with task and ktoonsez aokp rom. The camera works with other camera apps like 360 camera and ucam but not the aosp cam. The exact symptom is that the app will always freeze within 10 seconds of the app opening no matter if i touch the phone or not. The zoom slider never appears and I'm unable to interact with the app like changing the settings or anything.
I have tried numerous flashes including every version release so far. I always do a factory reset in cwm, delete cache partition, dalvik cache, and format system. I've also used the cwm flashable camera fix that is posted in both at&t development forums. In a last ditch effort I went back to stock, performed a factory reset from there insuring that my phone was a complete clean slate and the aosp camera app still didn't work when installing fresh aokp with no apps or any settings changed at all in the rom.
I'm at a loss here as the default cam app works in cm9 and cm10 but I want my aokp damn it!

[DISCUSSION] Potluck JB - a CMX release - Current Stable is 0925

Potluck JB is a CM10 build for the T-Mobile and Telus variants of the Hercules. Finally - kernel independence is buttery smooth and rock solid.
ALL thanks go to the CM team, TeamChopsticks, theDerekJay, and everyone cooperatively involved in the open-source movement. Potluck is just a stock build of the CM10 repo at this point, with a few cherry picks and other things added to achieve a nearly complete Jellybean ROM for the Hercules, hence the name.
Standard warning and disclaimer:
I take no responsibility if you use this ROM. It is experimental and appears to be solid, but use it at your own risk. Also be aware that this is a little side project I got into while I had some time off, and while I like the idea of compiling my own ROMware, I may not always have time to stay on top of it and/or continue to work on it. This is something to hold you over if you are drooling for a Jellybean release at this point. I will do my best to address bugs that are reported, or at least look into them, but this ROM is supplied without support.

NOTE: I get the impression that GoogleNow drains the battery a bit too much for my liking, so I've stopped using it. Someone else will need to test and comment on this, please.
Minor UI glitches, but nothing serious (IE: on USB Mass Storage on/off screen title)
Camera works for the first little while after a reboot if you do not use the Venom kernel, but is not reliable and can (and will) crap out at any time after that.
HIGHLY recommend running the ROM with the Venom kernel even though you don't absolutely have to. >> Fixed
Video recording does not work >> Fixed
Green overlay flash in camera, but it does not seem to affect anything >> Fixed
Hotspot only works in unsecured mode (eech...) >> Fixed
If you do have a bug to report, please give a little context info along with the bug. It's very difficult to understand out what "widget doesn't work" means on it's own.

Thanks. Working just as advertised here. bdusmc, there's supposedly a new (old) camera app I think in that rookie thread that fixed the 'green screen'. I haven't tried it though.
Edit... here's the app. Looks like ICS camera. No green screen but still no camcorder. Still... good progress.

Hey, I was able to just install it like any other app - not sure if we are talking about the same app or not...
Also, you mentioned in the Rookie thread that there are only a couple of pic sizes in the stock app? I have 5 or 6 in mine, everything from VGA to 8MP... Can you double check yours?

Okay, to fix the UI Glitchy Animations, you need to change these files, in framework.jar, which you will have to baksmali, then re-smali. You can try with:
A) ICS Version' Certain Files.
B) From Another Phone With Exact CPU/GPU.

I could not get the camera to work in the alpha. Did installation per all instructions; added Darkside 666 kernel.
Also having issues with installing Swype Beta. AP mobile does not work.

If you point out where the glitches are, I can fix the source images and recompile to save people the trouble of decompiling, recompiling, etc... there's a few things I want to add into the new build anyways, so let me know.

No the hardware is not properly set up in there. So the UI glitches the animations.

Oh, I see... I thought you were talking about stuff like this (the red jellybean/title) which I am having a hard time tracking down the source of... grrr. I'm starting to wonder if it is a generated vector graphic or something - has anyone got any clue of where this is so it can be fixed? I looked in the SystemUI images but still haven't found it.

Have you tried log catting, maybe it tells you what app it is.

Seems video is still a little weird....green lines/tint.....not talking about the cam....talking about video playback

Yeah, I just tried playing some YouTube and recorded videos and they don't perform very well... Probably a buffer issue methinks. Didn't see any greenscreen issues though on my end... strange. Rotation was good and didn't crash anything though, which is cool.

Yea....its weird....of will turn green with stripes....then if I touch the screen it will go away....then a second or two later it comes back

Any idea what issues Netflix is having? is it a video thing or a network/buffering thing?

[Q] Photosphere Camera black screen

After using CyanogenMod versions 9 through 10.2 I made the decision to switch to SlimRom and I am now running SlimKat 4.4.2 Build 4.1. During my entire time with CM, I had an easy time working with ported photosphere enabled camera apk's. However, upon the move to SlimRom, more specifically, the update to KitKat, the photosphere mode of the camera apk I had been using for several months was not working. Although I could take pictures with every other mode of the camera, whenever I switched to photosphere mode, the viewing screen would turn black, with all the rest of the UI working as normal. When I go to move it around, I can still see the dots for lining up the first photo, but it won't even let me take photos with this blacked out screen. I've attached a photo of the app in photosphere mode for better clarification, and I'd really appreciate if someone could help me out here.

I have Slimkat as well. I do know the included Camera does not have Photosphere. If you are using a different app then please post a link so I can give it a whirl and post my findings.

It worked pretty well for me. I am on Slim-d2lte-4.4.2.build.4.4-WEEKLY-3771and KT747 Kernel.

Weird...that was the one that started me on my search for new photosphere apks...
I tried installing the GE one and saw your edit, tried that one again, without luck on either of them so I tried another full wipe, updated to that latest weekly and after a few reboots and system app changes, the GE one appears to work for me. No black screen, the images stitch well and I can view them afterwards, seems like its back to my expectations. Thank you very much.

Glad its working for you. Please see the note on Slim Rom's home page. Google has release a new Camera app. That's working wonders for me.

I'm running into this exact same issue on the 2014-04-23-d2lte LiquidSmooth nightly using the new Google Camera. I clean flashed that and installed PA GApps Full + Keyboard. I wasn't running into this issue on PacMan Rom though, so I'm not sure what the issue is.

Okay lets get this out of the way now. You need to post what release you are on when you report issues. There are many different releases and I cant/wont help you if you dont give me the information I need to help you.

For those who dont know about this rom yet let me fill you in. This is the original thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2756911 and all the things that work thank them. For everything that is broken well that is most likely my fault. LOL! This rom is a direct port and will only be offered as the original team made it (besides fixes for Sprint). Please do not ask for me to add or change anything.
This rom contains S5 apps and N3 features (air command)!!

Flashing Instructions
1. Download rom and verify MD5sum
2. Place rom on phone (if not already)
3. Backup anything you need/want that is in your internal sdcard
3. Backup current rom
4. Factory reset/Format for new rom
5. Under mounts choose format /data /data/media (this is your internal sdcard)
6. Reboot into recovery
7. Flash rom and reboot
The first boot will take a long time so please wait. Also the phone will be a little sluggish for awhile (it has to setup itself).
If you have not taken the 4.3 or 4.4.2 OTA/ODIN and not flashed the wifi fix you will need to do so to be able to use wifi.

Mods and Fixes
Here is the systemUI from the Community Rom (S5-look). I have only tested this on beta 2.4 but it should work on all of them. If you are not on 2.4 then it will automatically delete your systemUI.odex file to keep issues from showing up. Note that there is a S5-FEAT-systemui.zip so you can go back to it if you want.

Aroma File Manager
Okay guys here is the meat for your philz recovery. Unzip the this and place in your clockwork folder on your external sdcard. It will work on your internal but if you wipe internal (like you should every flash) you will lose it. Once you place it there boot into recovery and double tap a blank part of the screen.
There is one tiny issue with this. Every so often when changing directories it will kind of hang. Dont worry if you see this just touch the screen and it will work.

I've been running 2.3 for a week or so had no problems so far. I guess I should wait for the WiFi fix as I use WiFi most of the time. Thanks for all the hard work porting it and props to the devs who did the original Verizon ROM

I have the S5 systemui flashable zip uploaded in Post 3. It has only been tested on 2.4 but I made the script so that if you tried it on the other betas it will remove your systemui.odex file.

Great work JL I am gonna flash this after I get finished playing with the Community ROM Alpha 1. You are relentless man!!!

Will look into those for you. All of this is on 2.3? Now about wallpaper. Give this a try. With root browser go to system and delete the wallpaper folder. Then make sure you have your wallpaper set and do a few reboots. Hopefully it will help.

Yes. I'm on 2.3, but have noticed a little music lag on lock screen with all betas. Any music player or milk.
Also that most of the time when I pause a song on any music player if I do something else or leave for too long it goes away. If it's still there it's back at the beginning. Not major issues.
I'll give the wallpaper thing a try.

Has anyone used the WiFi fix on a version besides 2.4 and the successfully used the WiFi fix and then re-flashed 2.4 and kept WiFi?
I noticed he said it was a 2.4 issue and I was gonna try going to 2.3 using the fix and then come back to 2.4 wiping just the caches, but wanted to check if it's been done successfully or not before I go ahead and download it.

Link me to the video share you install and I will include it with the rom. I have not looked and any of the "special" TW launchers. Everything seems to run fine on the stock one so I see no reason to change LOL.

Only 2.4 will show the correct version under settings and what you are seeing is the base rom's info. I am willing to bet you are on 2.3. Only way to tell for sure is by the "issues you have" or by the name of the file you flashed. I am trying to make sure I get that updated on each new release. BTW I am flashing 2.5 now and will let yall know how it goes.

You can try if you want but it will not work. The wifi fix zip in the OP clearly states it wont fix wifi on 2.4. The zip is for those who have not taken the OTA/Odin.

Just a heads up flashing the community systemui just makes it look like the stock ui (without the theme) on the 2.3.

I don't know if it has to do with the 4.4.4 update but when I flash the apps and Gapps zips over the newest CM11 nightly, I can't find the theme to select. The apps you included from sony and the launcher are pretty cool. Thanks!

Hey @Demo3827 there seems to be an issue with the camera for me. Well, camera/calls.
I tried to call my wife and it didn't connect, just sat there, I ended the call and went to the camera, and after telling it I don't want my phone to remember location, the camera froze and I had a kernel/demigod crash.
I haven't tried it since but I thought I might let you know. Might have something to do with the new nightly as well but since I flashed your apps package and it changed the UI and frame, it might have something to do with it.
Keep in mind it could be CM issue but still notable.

do a clean install... i too had problem with camera.. and also deepsleep problem.... after a clean install everything working fine.. ....... :good:
looks like the u can install the app folder on any cm based rom but not the latest cm based...... flashed the app folder on ehndroix v rom.. every thing worksing fine... :good:

It was a clean install. I don't go dirty on new ROMs. only updates occasionally.
So you think it can be installed on any CM based but newest? And thoughts as to why?
And what phone model are you using? I couldn't get ehndroix to work on the ls970 (sprint)

I haven't tested in the nigthly build my base is on the last Stable M7 because the nightly arent stable and most the time CM is testing new stuff and make broke or not work right.
I love to help you but if you arent using my base /stock kernel and gapps is nothing really that i can do for found the problem. Try use my base, apps, gapps and the kernel in the base and let me know if the probem still.... Thanks

The problem is that I can't use your base. And neither can anyone else that only has 3g. It's an issue cm was having that got fixed in one of the nightlies. So I used one that I could.

I flashed what you linked the first time and kept getting FC's for phone and it would only stop if data was off. I do believe if you have 4G but set to 3G it still works. The only issue is when the user only has access to 3G. At least that is in my experience and what I have read from others.
The one I last used was 7/01 build official CM for ls970.

I see yours works but that doesn't really help me. I tried what you linked and it still had FC's. I can take screenshots of everything and post if you like.

i just make a new Update to M8 try this one it maybe work on your =] you can try just flash the APPS but this new base is from M8 which should include the new fix for 3G =]

New one seems to be working like a champ, thanks for updating it. Few questions,
1) did you delete the sock launcher from CM11? When it booted and passed the setup it just sat black. I could use the settings and junk but no home.
2) any idea why I keep getting FC's for walkman? It has happened about 5 times in the past few hours.
3) is there a way to use quick pull down with your mods? I like being able to swpe down on the right to use the quick tiles (settings).
4) settings button on home screen does nothing but vibrate, can it be set to something? Like launcher settings or system settings?
I always have trouble keeping 3G and I have to keep switching airplane mode on/off or make a call and hang up in order to get it back. I think it's a custom rom issue with 3G but I just wanted to let you know.
I love the look and boot animation, seriously awesome. Thank you again!

your welcome and yes i delete the cm home for easy access after flash apps about walkman thats weird fc ill make a fix update for you
also about the quick pull down so far is not working but you can swap your finger on the top and ill switch between notifications and quick tiles
