Couldn't find anything in the Nexus forum about this.
Since this afternoon i'm getting a red flashing rectangle around the border of the screen when opening or closing apps. Doesnt mather wich app or in what rotate state. It's very irregular to get a pattern or pin down a problem. I have checked al settings to see if there is anything i might have set up by accident....
Also rebooting etc. doesn't help.
Please help anybody !!
Sounds like one of the developer options; show screen updates or show all anr's perhaps

Nope, i have looked at the developer settings, all options unchecked, nothing set there. (except the usb debug standard option, and no, turning that off doesn't help either)
Possibly hardware problem?
Got the phone about 4 days now and haven't had any problems. So far this is a great phone . I haven't had any problems with hardware

This is a setting in engineering builds of ICS. If you have the first version of eagles blood running, it does this. It is a simple change to the build.prop to fix it, though I am not sure what the fix is exactly

Is such a fix possible on original non rooted stock rom ?
And then to have the actual fix would be nice.
Mine was doing this until I flashed 4.02. Only randomly started when I was on 4.01.

Hmm ok. So I gotta wait until the next update then.

Try checking then unchecking the developer settings mentioned. I'm not covinced it will change anything, but it won't do any harm to try...
i think this is what "strict mode" in the developer settings does, try checking then unckecking that one...

Had the same problem, and thought it wasn't strict mode until I rebooted! Try unchecking strict mode, then reboot...should fix it...

I have the same problem . I've had my 2.0 Galaxy for over a year (great phone) but the other day it asked if i wanted to update? I said yes and pow! now i have this flashing red border. I unchecked the strict mode in the developers settings it did not help. I'm not sure which options in the developers settings i should check. I'm lost help
I have these weird screen artifacts (shown in the attached image).
I did not have these problems when I was on stock, and they happened when I flashed both cyanogenmod 10 and AOKP (wiping data, and doing a factory reset for both).
Is there a fix for this?

I'm not sure what I could enable or disable in developer options to prevent this.
Also, are you able to see the image in the original post? I don't think I did it right.

I still have it
had it on Frosty, Sprint.JB, and CM10 Stable release
I have aokp and also have this issue at random times. I just assumed it was normal. I guess not.

Yeah. Is there anyway around it? Like changing the font doesn't help. The obvious fix is stock restores and different roms but that didn't help. Already for me warranty is out off the again since I swapped my housing to a different color. It's gotta be just a bug right in the way Android handles font rendering?

im guessing no one has found a fix to this?
I have this problem as well, with an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3. I was running stock for a while and recently wiped and installed CM 10.1 stable; it didn't help this problem. I've tried different fonts, font sizes, all that. It's definitely not consistent. I even noticed this recently while using the stock CM clock app: there were two 2's on the screen that had a small artifact near the top of the number. The clock ticket over to 23, and the artifact disappeared from the remaining 2.
I am starting to get a list of issues with my phone.
The screen no longer will shut off unless i hit the power button - comes back on and stays on if I get any kind of notification (email, sms, facebook....ect)
The led no longer comes on when its charging
I have to shut off wifi and turn it back on to get on wifi
when playing some games I get FC's or it will just hang and I will have to reboot.
anybody else with these issues?
No, cant say I am. But then, I'm stock unrooted, nothing modded or changed... yet.
How 'bout you?

Try going back to stock rooted and run PimpMyRom from the Market. Gives you all the non-themed goodies of a custom rom without the bugs and broken parts. You pick what you want to apply.

This may or may not do anything but I would try to clear cache and dalvik.
I'm stock rooted LJC. No mods... going to back some stuff up and factory reset and start over.
for most of that it sounds like settings issues. the game fc tho is odd.

Yep try that and let us know how it goes.
My GPS doesn't lock anymore. I think it may be something with the phone itself because I've tried more than four different ROMS and it searches for GPS/location on all of them.
I am using the latest Pacman AOKP ROM as my daily driver. I tried another GPS app (telnav) and I got an instant lock. I also tried the GPS fix app but that didn't help.
Does any one know what might have gone wrong or have suggestions on how to fix it. Thanks

I had the same weird problem you have. I got it working and it's been fine ever since.
Heres wat I did.
Went to settings > Application manager > ALL > Maps
Cleared Cache
Cleared Data
Uninstalled Updates
Then Unninstalled Maps
Rebooted and installed Maps from the market.
Enabled the GPS
Started navigation and it worked just like it should.
Good Luck!
Aloha

Does anyone know why this is happening to some people? I didn't do anything different than I normally do when flashing, but for whatever reason my GPS stopped working.

Actually I was in AOKP and then I flashed the latest version of Frosty, but my GPS was working after that. Then I flashed a few different Kernels to see which one worked better. I flashed Ktoonsez first, then Deviant, and finally I settled on Xone Kernel. It was then that I realized my GPS didn't work. So I'm not sure what messed it up.

Finally tried the FIRST ics build (T999UVALEM)..worked!

Just about every time my phone deep sleeps, wifi shuts off completely. I've tried multiple roms and kernels, and every advanced wife setting combination possible. Thinking it's a hardware issue in which case bye bye nexus.
I've googled and googled and only really found suggestions like "uncheck wifi optimization" or "make sure turn wifi off while sleeping is (un)checked". Tried all of that, and still persists.
Anyone else have this issue, or can someone give me an out of the box tip?
Thanks

You've probably already tried this, but have you tried a full wipe? Also, have you tried wiping you device's internal memory (SD card), and have you tried reverting to complete stock and starting over?
its a known issue with 4.2.2 roms, nothing much you can do about it, temporarily it can work but problem will repeat itself
I have done a full wipe, but not wiped the sd card, or reverted to stock. Hoping to avoid such a tedious task.
So my options are either suck it up, revert to a 4.1 rom, or get a new phone?
Thanks

Thanks for your suggestion, let me try and report back later to see if this works.
This problem has been constantly bugging me that I want to dump this phone. Seriously disappointed with Google over all these bugs...
but I keep wifi optimization off... should I keep it on?
If you are unlocked, you can flash some custom kernels to fix the problem. I use Fancy Kernel and the developer included a fix in the kernel.
Fancy Kernel OP
Work-around for Wifi drops (Kernel specific)
After fiddling with the Wifi Optimisation, I would like to report back that it DOESN'T WORK.
