Ok, so I'm not new to flashing roms and messing with stuff if needed, but recently I've come to find that my AT&T Galaxy Note 2 refuses to have a data connection other than wi-fi when I flash a rom based off of anything but stock. For example...my Jedi X9 rom works fine...CleanROM works fine...stock works fine. However, anything like CM10, CM10.1, Paranoid Android, JellyBeer, JellyBam(the one I REALLY wanted to work in the first place...) all have grey signal bars and absolutely no data when wifi is turned off. I went as far as about a week ago flashing the thing completely stock in Odin and wiping everything out, then redoing custom recovery and everything. Does anyone have any idea? I've seen people having similar issues, but obviously not everybody does, or there would be posts everywhere. I posted a few times in specific rom threads but nobody had any ideas that worked yet. Just wanted to get this out there and see if anyone has a solution or some ideas to try.
Right apn?

Every one of those ROMs had the right APN for att LTE. I tried so much stuff I'm really at a loss.

I am having the exact same problem as the OP...all my apn settings line up with the settings i've seen posted. I reset apn and the phone automatically picked AT&T LTE, however when I click on about phone and then status, it says mobile network state: disconnected. Any stock based rom works perfectly. Thanks in advance.
I've checked APN settings in all of those.ROMs and everything was perfect according to the ROM maker, just no connection. Phone calls and SMS work, but no MMS and no data. Its gotta be something deeper than the settings menu. I've also flashed the k7 modem over them to no effect. I even flashed back to completely new with Odin before. Basically, any ROM that is not stock based does this, which is why Im back on Jedi xp9.
BTW drew, it says disconnected anytime you're on WiFi, that's gonna happen on any Rom. The grey bars is the giveaway to show no data connection ever.

When you guys look at your APN under att lte does it say pta or does it day phone? I've noticed this between touch wiz ROM and aosp. When I flash touch wiz in my APN has phone. Flash cm10 or any of these aosp roms it has pta. I read that att is getting rid of the pta and is using phone for there APN setting. Have you guys tried that in your APN settings? Mine works on both still but I have noticed with pta it would go gray sometimes.

I don't seem to have any data problems with CM10.1 and JellyBeer when I toggle the wifi switch, unless it connects to a network with very low to no reception. When that happens, the phone just says "no connection" even though phone calls, SMS and MMS texts, and internet usage still work.

BINGO...so far so good...changed APN to phone from pta and it works now...will report back if fix stays
thanks
Glad it's working. I don't really have a source of this. There is a thread in the att gs3 thread. They were getting the update and it was changing there APN to phone. And I noticed this as well from my note compared to my gs3.

yes, i started a new profile called ATT PHONE
and then under where it said 'pta' before i changed that to 'phone' also
Still nothing on mine. I think my phone just hates me.
mine says
Name: ATT PHONE
APN: phone
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Auth: none
APN type: default,mms,supl,hipri
Still no luck though. I was trying this after a Twrp backup...which then promply erased my entire SD card for some reason...so I get to go start from scratch anyway, again.
Finally got it! At last...
ATT LTE -name
APN phone
proxy not set
port not set
username and password not set
server not set
mmsc http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
mmsc proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
mms port 80
mcc 310
mnc 410
authen. not set
apn type default, supl, mms
apn protocol ipv4
apn roaming protocol ipv4
bearer unspecified.
Not sure why this worked, but it did!

Um can you take a ss or something of it to see what your put cause there is more settings than just that and need to know what fields you put those values.
I'm thinking if we change the default values of the MMSC and MMS Proxy to be:
http://mmsc.cingular.com
and
wireless.cingular.com that might take care of it. I know thats what values I have on my Xperia S for the MMS apn.
This is exactly what I had just for the mms apn on the Xperia S:
ATT
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
Port: 80
Username: <not set>
Password: <not set>
Server: <not set>
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: <not set>
APN type: mms

This is a network registration error. In some cases, you may find that after doing what is listed below, you have also missed a text or two as well when this happens. I'm not sure what causes this network registration error, but here is how to fix it:
Hold Volume Up + Power on your phone. The phone will shut down for a restart, and vibrate once. DO NOT LET GO OF THE BUTTONS. Continuing to hold these buttons, a few seconds later, the phone will vibrate 3 times. This forces the phone to completely shut down. Upon restarting, your message(s) should send, and any that you have missed should come through.
Until we find out what is ACTUALLY causing this, this is all I can offer as a solution.
There are a lot of threads out there about how to check and back up APN settings and then restore them if need be. What's the most reliable and easiest way that someone can recommend?
I'm on CM10 nightlies with MY kernel
Thank you.

BTW, APN settings is under settings -> more settings -> mobile networks....

Don't forget it to store that ss somewhere it won't get erased, like Dropbox. On case you accidentally wipe your internal/external sd card
I flashed the urban karnage 1.5 today and now my cell signal is no longer set up correctly. This rom does not let you set you manual apn's. Anybody's thoughts on why I am only getting 3g where I used to get lte?
Thanks

I managed to get into the APN settings and make the correct changes but it was useless I still could not get on the HSPA network that I could get on my stock rom
I've never had an issue with T-Mobile until the last month, and I thought maybe my Note 2 was going wonky but the Note 3 does the same thing. Basically it likes to mostly switch from LTE to EDGE or even GPRS sometimes, and it's driving me insane. If you do *#2263# in the dialer it brings up the network settings and you can force LTE/WCDMA only, but then it never drops down to the battery saving UMTS, which I want to do. There has to be a way to just plain disable EDGE/GPRS completely, or at least change the priority to where it doesn't ever go to those unless it has zero signal of either HSPA, UMTS or LTE. Any ideas?
/sadface. Bump just in case no one saw this.
WCDMA=UMTS
*#*#4636#*#*
Choose phone info
Set to WCDMA only
You won't connect to lte this way but it'll disable the fallback to edge/gprs.
Also, I'd change your apn settings to use the epc.tmobile.com apn instead of the fast.tmobile.com if
you're going to force wcdma.

Hi guys,
I have noticed that my phone data speed drastically slows on any aokp/cm roms.
I was on Touchwiz rom with uvmc6 radio and then I installed cyanogenmod 11 alpha 3 and with same radio the speed went half.
Where I live here we have Edge service. On touchwiz roms I touch 20-25 KBps whereas it merely touches 15 KBps on aosp based roms. The latency is also slow.
Is there any solution to it? Can anbody tell which settings does samsung use to make it fast? Maybe i could add something to build.prop to make it fast.
Thanks

Try this courtesy of @TripFX:
Go into "Settings"
Under "Wireless & network" click More...
then click "mobile networks"
then click "Access Point Names"
click hard menu button then "new apn"
enter this
Name: T-Mobile US LTE
APN: fast.t-mobile.com
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
APN type: default,supl,mms
APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6
Save and reboot.
Our phone can't get LTE speed but I do get better reception & speed with this.
Hi,
Thanks but it's not an apn issue. Same apn settings perform different results on touchwiz and aosp based roms. Do you think there could be any settings in some system files?

I don't know, haven't really had this happen and I've used AOKP and CM lately. Did you check to make sure "Use only 2G" isn't checked in mobile network settings? Also maybe change your DNS settings to get slightly better speed.
Ok thanks. I will give Google dns a go. Will update if find any improvements.

Maybe try the Fresh Network app on Play. I really do think the ROM flash and your speed reduction was a coincidence as I've have flashed so many ROMs over the last 2 years and never experienced that. Then again everybody can have different things happen that others never have a problem with.
Also as a last resort maybe re-flash the latest radio via ODIN and see what happens.
Thanks. I have tried those signal boosters as well but I guess it has to do this with my network may be
I also have odined back to stock and re-rooted phone and then tried cm but it produces the same results. On touchwiz roms it works very well. Anyway, thanks a lot for your help. I'm attaching my network screenshot for reference.
