A factory reset only wipes the /data partition (all app data), its not possible that it could have deleted the phones IMEI as well
In short the IMEI is still there

IMEI vanishes when you flash a PIT that sets the partition sizes wrong and the IMEI gets masked inside the partition. Technically its still there but the /system can't see it. You can get it back but its not easy. First you have to flash a stock full restore with PIT then you have to master reset the device thru the dialer menus, then you need qpst/cdma ws on a sprint version to locate the IMEI and replace it with the correct value if needed. Sometimes when it becomes hidden it only shows all 0's when you restore it until you go into the NV partition and actually re write the missing values

I flashed my GS3 to boost mobile. Long story short, I used a boost evodesign4g as a donor, I changed the correct values to get it activated, but I also changed the IMEI with DFS to match the evo design4g (never thinking to back up my original gs3 imei let alone write it down:crying:). I figured out at a much later date that I never needed to change my IMEI to match the evo design. Now I am switching over to voyager mobile as they allow byod sprint devices, so I can have lte. BUT ONE HUGE PROBLEM, Currently my GS3 has the wrong IMEI.... I need to recover my original sprint GS3 IMEI as it is linked in the sprint database to my meid and ICCID for LTE activation. Yes I have checked the obvious, I searched the forums found nothing for my situation, it’s not on the white sticker on the back I don't have the original box anymore because if I did I would not need to ask for help...I figure it might be similar to recovering a Verizon GS3 IMEI, Maybe the original is hidden in one of the NV items?. So does anyone know how to recover the original factory set IMEI for a SPRINT GS3??? Is there a way to calculate it from the ICCID number?
Thank you to all who reply! I’m really in a bind here and need some help or guidance.

Entered wrong IMEI through QPST accidently. How do I correct?

Phone: GS3 T-Mobile
Lost IMEI while flashing and it showed 0. So I tried to fix it by following this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1802024
However, during the process, I accidentally injected wrong number in the QPST. (And found out after the wrong IMEI had already been injected into my phone).
Now, my phone has wrong IMEI number. How do I fix?
Thanks guys,
Ken
Could you not go through the process again...entering the correct IMEI? Not trying to be facetious.
You need a spcial box to that ... cant say more

To do what he/she has already done without the box? You don't need a special box to modify the IMEI. I suggest you read more.
does your phone work though?
do you still get hspa+ and whatnot. Calling blahblah? If it works don't worry about it fo rnow.

Flashing and IMEI

Wondering how flashing and the other IMEI works on sprint as I have a Verizon gs3. I backed up mine because of the chances of losing it, but it I'm curious how it works on sprint. A friend trip d flashing a modem and said he lost his IMEI and it says missing SIM or something.
How does one go about fetching the same IMEI oj a sprint phone or fixing what is described above.
Also, are there precautionary measures for backing up imei on sprint like on the verizon (synergy has a script and also nvbackup command)
Any help would be appreciated, and thanks..

I've never heard of flashing a modem on a phone and losingi the IMEI or it saying it's missing the SIM. If he flashed the incorrect modem, he wouldn't have data or be able to make calls, more than likely. To try and retrieve an IMEI, he can go to settings > about phone or go to the phone dialer and dial ##786#, but note, the dialer code will not work on AOSP based roms such as CM10 or LiquidSmooth and is not going to work on Verizon models as well. Backup of the IMEI shouldn't be necessary as it's always going to be stored in the memory of the phone.

Nailed it!!!!!!!!! My 4g is back again

Last week, I did the most stupid thing on my note 2 (SGH-t889). I saw a rom that i liked for the n7100 and flashed on my 889v. Of course, rom works fine but no DATA OR VOICE :crying:crying:
So I flashed my phone with my previous rom and I had data again. All of a sudden, after installing all my apps, I lost the connection. My phone went completely crazy
i saw unknown baseband on settings / phone status; phone rebooted itself. I tried to flash a stock rom, or even flash the 889v modem on any rom and no luck; i was on a constant boot loop
I had to flash another modem from T-Mobile to get out of boot looping (MODEM: T889UVALL4_Modem-Jan_16_13-teshxx) but i couldn't get on any network even if I my phone could detect them (I'm on Videotron).
I've searched xda and other sitEs for solution on how to fix an almost empty esf folder. On a tmo modem my emei was 0 0 and on videotron modem it was null.
SOLUTION
My efs folder was almost empty; no nv_data.bin and those other files.
I went across this site
http://galaxynote2root.com/galaxy-note-2-tutorials/how-to-enable-t-mobile-3g4g-aws-bands-on-att-galaxy-note-2-sgh-i317/
It's a tutorial on how to enable aws on the AT&T note 2. It had just what i needed: a qcn file. Ive follwed the directions on the site; flashed the qcn file with the QPST software and rebooted the phone. My emei was a bunch of 0. No signal still but the battle wasn't loss.

And VOILA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i got my signal back but with a tmo modem (MODEM: T889UVALL4_Modem-Jan_16_13-teshxx)
my 4g is back and my gps is working flawwless

Wow. I followed your steps to the letter and it worked, thank you so much!!
Have you flashed back to a VTR modem or would that mess everything up? Thanks again for your help.
From past experience flashing the videotron modem would bring me back to boot loop, wouldnt lose imei or signal but would start then after 30secs reboot.. Im stuck with tmo modem. Works fine but signal seems a little weaker.
i have canadian note2 t889v that i got from craigs the other day. everything seemed fine, didnt have sim to try for mobilicity that im on (aws band), he said he used it with rogers fine
I put the sim card, went to search networks but my provider was not listed there. So I rooted the phone , loaded twrp, flashed prerooted factory rom for t889v ( from mrrobins) , no network, than i flashed original factory rom, still no luck, than i flashed t889v modem and still the same.
My imei is present, and matches one on back of the phone. My efs folder is there and is populated (dont know if anything is missing from there)
I dont have backup of efs or imei. What are the chances it is corrupted ? Does anyone have any suggestion, and should i try this method to try to fix it ?
You may have to put your apn settings manually for your carrier. I would try that to start.

Have you check the *#2263# menu to make sure it is on the correct band, also in network setting you can switch to gsm, wcdma, so on. As for imei as far as I know if it were corrupt your imei would be bad. Is it possible the phone has been blacklisted?
That code dont work in stock dialer. And mobilicity dont block imei #

[Q] Trying to return my MetroPCS flashed Note II back to stock MEID

Title about says it, but the details are...
The MEID and IMEI have been changed to those of a donor phone to get it to work on MetroPCS.
I bought the phone cash many moons ago and the ESN/MEID is still clean, I have the original MEID #s from the box, but no IMEI...
What do I have to do to restore those original settings? Read somewhere that flashing stock ROM/Modem works to restore the MEID, but I flashed the MC2 modem and ROM and it didn't change those settings.
I want to use the phone to sign up for Straight Talk, but before I do that, I want it back to the factory settings to ensure everything goes swimmingly with the activation.
Any and all help is GREATLY appreciated.

Change your modem to lj1. Then use dfs to read the phone settings. On the screen that has your esn make sure you read all the sections. When you change the esn you will notice other parts change automatically. Go through and right all the changed sections and reboot. Now you should be back to original.

Hey, thanks a lot. I actually got it to change with the MC2 modem using DFS not long after I posted this. The stupid part is that writing the new (old) numbers wouldn't work if I issued the read command first but worked just filling in the number and hitting write. But it did change my MDN and MIN to 0000000043... I'm assuming I should change them back to my phone number?

T-mobile S4 Stock Android 4.3, Cannot Unlock, IMEI unknown after attempt by localshop

Hi All,
I had purchased T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGH-M919) with Stock android 4.3 while I was in usa, and want to use it in my home country now as I have left usa. I couldn't found any unlock solution on internet for stock android 4.3, and T-Mobile would not give me the unlock code. I tried third party services to provide unlock code and it did not work either. So I went to a local shop, and he screwed everything up. When I went back to the local shop to receive my phone (hoping it might have been definitely unlocked by them), he told me that he tried to downgrade it to 4.2.2 but it did not work (only after reading through all the forums I realize there is no way to go back to stock 4.2.2 if you are on stock 4.3 because of knox / bootloader issues on 4.3, leads me to think the shopowner did not really do his research before touching my phone, and no, he did not do any EFS backup). In an attempt to unlock my phone, he also flashed Metro PCS stock ROM on my phone, not to mention, my IMEI number is also 'Unknown' now. I managed to get back on T-Mobile stock 4.3 ROM now but still IMEI is unknown. I also tried to go to nearest Samsung center and they said they would not touch international phone models. At this point I have no idea what to do. Any suggestions how to get back my IMEI and or at the least to get the phone working to my country's network?
Thanks.
Try flashing the mk2 modem using odin. That may work but not sure.

The local shop broke it. Tell them to pay for it.
Also, the only reason T Mobile won't give you an unlock code is if the phone isn't paid for in full. If the phone is paid for in full, they HAVE to give you the unlock code.
Are you sure you didn't buy the phone in the US, then leave the country without paying the bill so you could use the phone internationally without paying full price? If not, there is no reason T Mobile wouldn't give you the unlock code. So there's some missing information in this story.
Also, we do not discuss how to change IMEI's on XDA. The only thing permissable on XDA about flashing IMEI's is restoring YOUR OWN IMEI from a backup. That is done by restoring the EFS partition. But you didn't have a back up so you can't do that. That means anyway to fix your IMEI involves what is an illegal hack and that discussion is expressly not permitted on XDA. That information is used for illegal purposes and XDA is not going to be the place where it's shared for legal reasons.

Hi skipjacks, thanks for responding. Nothing is pending with t-mobile, I was on prepaid account. I bought the phone like 10 days before leaving usa (due to emergency). T-mobile says my number on this new device should have being working for at least 45 days or so with refill balance. My cycle ended after 15 days of purchase and I really didnt see any reason to refill it as I was no more in usa. And no, I dont want to CHANGE my IMEI, only want to restore my own IMEI only. I am not sure if my EFS partition is corrupted, because I rooted my phone tried to backup EFS folder now (I know its too late but still), deleted it and rebooted (as a few threads suggested it would regenerate nv data files), but neither did I see any nv files when I did a back up now, nor after I rebooted. When I rebooted, the EFS folder did regenerate but there were no nv files in there. Also, after deleting EFS and regeneration the serial number was corrupted, but when I restored my backup, the serial number showed up correctly again. Also my current backup contains the imei folder with mps.code_bat file. I noticed that even imei folder was not regenerated on deletion of EFS and reboot. I somehow have the feeling that this is still indicating that my original EFS folder is still present (though I may be wrong, because I dont know). But my concern is the nv data files, which I dont see anywhere. I did come across several threads about imei corruption and restoration, but the only one I didnt come across was T-mobile SGH-M919 with stock android 4.3. I am wondering if this has some different file storage structure for imei (which again I dont know). At this point I am concerned about getting back my imei, I can get the unlock code from some reputed paid service again. I understand that open discussion about imei involving anything CHANGING IMEI is not allowed here. If anyone could just help me out restoring my original imei, even by pm, I would really appreciate it. I just dont want to throw away the phone and lose my money because of the error done by repair shop.

First off....the enter key is your friend. Hit it every so often when typing giant blocks of text like that.
Second, since your IMEI has been deleted, you now have to change it, even if you just want to change it back to what it was before. The process to fix it now is what can't be discussed here.
IF you had backed up your EFS partition, then it would be as simple as restoring it in recovery. That's all well and good. But your IMEI is now 0, so you have to change it to what it was.
But all that aside, you went to a store and they broke it. Take it back there and raise holy hell until they fix it for you or buy you a new one. I know consumer protections are stronger in some countries than others, but wherever you are, yelling and screaming is a universal language.

Whether your file is missing, modified, or corrupted, you need your /efs folder to restore it. You do not have have a nandroid backup or the /efs folder. I am sorry but the simplest we can put it without sounding harsh, you're screwed. You need to request the local shop give you a replacement phone or credit to get a new one.
Update: I went back to the shop and told them "You broke it, you fix it, I don't know how and I don't care, you gotta fix it". They managed to fix the imei number somehow. Regarding unlock, the shop ended buying the unlock code themselves. They mentioned that no one is able to unlock T-Mobile S4 with Stock 4.3 as of now without unlock code, unless they have some device like Z3x box. The phone is finally unlocked and working fine on my network. (YES, A HUGE HUGE RELIEF).
Everything is fine, except for 2 issues.
1. I want to backup my EFS folder so that I don't enter into trouble with IMEI again. I tried EFS Pro, but its not working. All I see is "'Initializing ADB server..." (the phone is rooted, usb debugging mode enabled, and supersu permission granted when prompted). I also tried to backup using Andromizer, but it says "Notification: File not found in /storage/emulated/0/Amdromizer/efs/efs.img". What is my best option as of now to backup and store my imei safely somewhere?
2. I am having issues with Wi-Fi. Before the shop flashed my phone, it was all good, but now it doesn't auto-connect to my home Wi-Fi anymore. Everytime I reboot or get out of range, I have to manually select my home network everytime and also enter the password everytime. Nothing has changed on my router. The other Samsung device that I have still auto-connects to my home Wi-Fi as usual. How can I fix this?
Thanks.

For the efs you can back it up using recovery. Just boot to recovery and its one of the options in the backup menu. The resulting file will be like a few KB. Its supposed to be small. Dont worry
Sent from your phone. You should be more careful where you leave that thing.
