I have just got a galaxy nexus after coming from a iphone 4 and when i use my phone in the car i have the sat nav on(co pilot live) and have my music playing through bluetooth to my radio and i have it plugged into the phone charger charging but for some reason the phones battery decreases, never had this problem on the iphone anyone else have this probelm
When the screen is on it can use more output than a standard usb port can make. The charger you are using is likely only charging at 500 may(usb charging), you need a 1 ah charger. There have been several posts in the accessories forum. Apple uses a different method (go figure) for higher amp chargers. A standard micro usb cable will work but the charger must be capable of 1amp output.

Thanks, guess I'll have to have a look for a new charger then

This is the one I use, otherwise just read reviews and make sure they can do 1 amp.

Hi guys.
I have a problem finding good car charger for my phone while in car.
I either use sygic sat nav or Google maps but on top of that I stream music either via Google music or di.fm app.
Problem starts when I start streaming. My battery slowly drops down about 1% per 15min. I've tried various car chargers that have either 1amp, 2.1 amp and even dual 3.5amp they don't do the job. Only my HTC 1amp charger manages to hold the charge but it doesn't charge on top of that.
Any ideas and suggestions?

I bought the car charger from Amazon HERE earlier this year and it has worked out awesome. I usually leave it in my car but also makes a great wall charger for when you need it in a pinch and didnt bring your own. Its 17 (I got free shipping since I have Amazon Prime) and well worth it since I dont think I ever have to buy another car charger again for any device I own. Even charges my tablet.
Genuine Motorola rapid car charger, simply the best. Charges like a wall charger, seriously, phone says it's plugged into AC power
No other charger I have used, has allowed to use Google navigation and still quickly charge my galaxy nexus

In some roms like Slim ICS you can make the USB charge as fast as a wall charger!
I use a rocketfish 1a charger from bestbuy and it charges while using navigation and streaming.

I use a 1A HTC charger and never had any issues. Are you sure your cigarette lighter is working properly? It sounds like all of these chargers you've tried are charging at less than 1A.
I think 1 amp is about all it will do. It will have a hard time keeping up if you are using it a lot. I have the htc car charger and it seems to keep up for me but actually getting a decent charge while using it will be hard.

not all 1a chargers actually charge at 1a. it depends on if the two middle pins are shorted together or not.
this charger is cheap as hell - 3 bucks - and charges at a full 1a. i use it and it works perfectly.

I noticed this too, using a Kensington USB charger in the car. On my drive out to Phoenix, I noticed that having Navigation running while plugged in caused the battery to drain.
I also noticed that running Torque sucks the battery down as well. I stopped at a gas station that had a ton of gadgets, so I bought another off-brand USB adapter that stated its output is 1.5A. I also picked up the OEM extended battery at a VZW store while out there. It doesn't drain as fast now, but it does still drain a bit.
Motorola
Absolutely go for the motorola charger. I use it everytime in car, it's a 1A charger, has a nice blue light and can charge your phone even when using navigation.
And on top of that it's also cheap. I bought it in boundle with a motorola wall charger @ 10€.
is it this one guys http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Motorol...846874?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item2a1ea6619a
Make shift cable.
If you're super cheap and/or like to DIY, I was able to get my Galaxy Nexus to recognize any USB charger as AC by cutting a USB extension cable in half. I then soldered/twisted the green and white wires within the USB cable together and then I soldered the red to red and black to black. By putting the modified USB extension in between the charger and a USB to Micro USB cable it will force the phone to recognize the charger as AC instead of USB. I sealed up my adapter with some White and Green heat-shrink tubing I had lying around so it would be easy to identify. Same thing can be done to a USB to Micro-USB cable if you want.

Anyone in Canada interested in getting one of these for $5 + CDN shipping? I just picked up 4 of these from my mailbox in the states and am selling 3. PM me if you're game. (BTW, charges my GNex in AC mode) And if you're in Vancouver you can pick it up in person
I just ordered a Griffin PowerJolt. I hope I get one of the newer ones that work with ac mode.
I use the USB port in my deck.

What is the AC mode you are speaking of?
I don't recall the exact part number, but its the oem HTC kit I got for my One S prior to trading it in. Nothing fancy, but high quality and power, and the S3 doesn't seem to be picky.

How do you stop the deck from trying to index the whole phone? That is the problem I've had when trying that in the past. Is their a setting somewhere, or a cable mod that allows charging but no data?
I use the I-GO, bought it at Radio Shack in I think 2004, been able to charge any phone I've had since then all you have to do is buy the little adapter for each phone, just got one for my GSII for 7 bucks after changing from an IPhone.
Using the t mobile branded mini usb chadger that i got with moto razr. I added a mini to micro usb adapter.

Some cheapo usb adapters do not charge at full power. They charge as if they are plugged into a computer (500ma)
It is because the factory forgets to short the datapins.

I did a lot of research and came up with the following. Been using it for a week now and it charges fast. I did short out the two center usb pins. This is a true 3.1 amp charger. It does not split the power to charge two devices like most 2 amp chargers do. One plug is 1 amp and the other is 2.1 amp.

Well..they charge him, but in slow mode. Connect your phone and go to Settings->Battery..and you will see one of this "Charging (USB)" or "Charging (AC)". If it says USB, then you only have 500 mA, and AC gives you max from your charger. Original charger for Note 2 is 2A. So, I doubt that any car charger will give you that amount of electric charge. It can help, but it is a really slow process.

Does your cigarettlighter-outlet in your car working?
I'm using a SonyEricsson MicroUSB car charger bought and used with the SE Xperia X10 Mini in 2010. It does easily charge the Note1 while using Google Navigate+GPS and the Spotify (Via Bluetooth with the car stereo).
this subforum for N7000, I suppose?

I purchased a splitter from Amazon that came with 2 cigarette and 2 USB connections. I used the cable that came with my N7000 originally and plugged that in and it works fine. You can go on eBay and search for 2ah USB cigarette charger and just use the cable that came with the note to charge it up.
I wouldn't buy any longer cables as it seems to slow down the charging process by quite a bit.

Make sure it's the correct voltage and amperage. The oem charger spits out something like 1.3A. A lot of usb phone chargers output less than 1a

my S4 charger works
S2 charger works also.
As does the S3 and N7 Gen1.
So long as it's 1A or greater it'll work at about the same charge rate (1A = slower, and anything over 1.35A won't charge much faster).
I invested in this a while back...best charger I own....

It didn't work on a charger I had that had a "special" cable that only provided power and ground. When I used a normal USB cable, it worked fine, so it apparently wan't to see something more than just an open connection on the data lines before it will charge.
Its worked on any charger I threw at it including the iPad charger with a HTC cable. Wireless charging also works great with the Nokia one.

Anyone tried using the Apple 12W 2.4 apm charger?
Is it ok to use more powerful charger than the one it ships with?
More capacity charger won't be a "problem" as the device determines how much power to pull. Lesser capacity charges can sometimes overheat if not designed well.
Often devices capable of charging faster will only go into that mode if they detect the charger is capable of doing so. Since the way they determine this is not standardized, sometime high capacity charger charge slowly. This could be caused by something on the charger side, or even the cable being used.
Worse case of using a higher capacity charger is it won't charge at all, but that is pretty rare. Often it will charge, either at a slow or fast rate.
I'm looking for a charger that will charge my Nexus 5 at full speed. I've tried a Griffin charger as well as a Monoprice charger and both are recognized as Charging (USB) by my Nexus 5. I assume they are designed for "proper" use with an iPhone, which I know can cause those issues. I am aware of the option to short the pins on the charger, but I would really rather buy one that works properly out of the box. Does anyone have any recommendations? I searched, but everything seems to be able using a wireless charger in your car.
I have the one like this http://m.ebay.com/itm/231122308378?nav=Search used it on my Motorola and now with nexus 5 shows as charging AC

Those two look like they are very high profile chargers. I know I didn't specify this, but I would prefer something a little less bulky. Also, they are under 1A while the Nexus 5 charger is 1.2A. Still better than the 500mA I'm getting currently.

I use the 18W 3.6A version of this Anker Car charger. But seeing as the 24W is $9.99 while the 18W is $8.99, might as well get the higher output one (supplies one 2.4A Apple port, and one 2.4A Android port). Here in Canada the 18W is $19.99, 24W is $21.99....
They have full Android support, so it allows full speed AC charging if you have a good USB cable. They also have versions with a built in cable, but I prefer to use my own because if the built in one breaks, you're kinda screwed.
The 18W 3.6A car charger I have charges the Nexus 5 at around 1100mA (with a good USB cable). That's perfect to still charge the phone while simultaneously using navigation, streaming music, etc.
Have you tried different cables? I'm finding the quality difference between cables makes a difference in the charging rate.
I bought an att one years ago and it's the fastest charger I've ever used in my car. You can get it on amazon for about $8 shipped.
