[Q] Possessed Galaxy Nexus - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey guys, I'm a new member of the XDA Community and was hoping to address an issue my new Galaxy Nexus has been running with. First of all, it is a Canadian Nexus device and is running Jelly Bean 4.1.1. I've had the device for a week now, and it was day ONE where the Nexus started malfunctioning. While on the homescreen, lockscreen, or just using apps, the device would randomly press things. Now what I mean is, while I was texting, the device randomly typed in gibberish. My fingers didn't touch ANYTHING. Or another time I was on my lockscreen and the device started glitching by going to emergency dialer inputting random numbers; I'd press back or off, but what the device was doing was pretty much overriding my commands forcing me to perform a battery pull. Also while browsing the phone inputs random things (be it links or what so) as well as opening up random things in a game (Knights of Pen and Paper). These "glitches" happen ONCE IN AWHILE. The phone might "glitch" for a couple of seconds before going back to normal. I factory reset the device and the problem still persists once in awhile (just not as severe). The phone might usually press the home button by itself (trust me, my hands and fingers are nowhere near the home button when that happens). I researched the issue and some went through this, but unfortunately, this doesn't feel like a hardware defect (if it was, would it not persist continuously/not randomly?). I don't think taking it to where I bought it would help because I can't replicate the issue (the issues stopped for two days before pressing random things again after, except it wasn't as severe). I just thought to let the community know about my ghost phone, so any questions and comments concerning my issue would be greatly appreciated!
Sorry for the long post.

I'd backup my SD card and then completely wipe everything off the phone.
In twrp wipe>format data at the bottom. Not sure about cwm

There's no such thing as a possessed device.
Op, read this first.
Then, read the first post of this thread.

Oh I've seen a possessed device.
My friend has a spica that runs 2.3.7 on it. The same problem started with 2.2.2 and he hoped the upgrade to a newer rom would help.
It didn't help. Random key press is but one of the problems. The hardware buttons don't work and has made the phone unusable.
So can we rule out software issue on this? It could be the screen going bad.
Who knows..

OP,
Perhaps use paragraphs in future as well, makes it a LOT easier to read

Major Tilt Issues....

Hey all,
I have owned my Tilt 2 for a little over 6 months now and have seemed to have problems with it since day one. Its a little hard to describe the exact issue but I will do My Best.
First of all, I am currently Using the Latest Energy Rom for the Phone from xda developers. I have installed both hot Fixes on my Phone from HTC and I do a hard reset every time I upgrade my rom.
This is a problem I have had since getting the phone and seemed to be present in the Stock Rom that came from ATT so I am not convinced that it is a software problem, but I thought I would get some opinions here first. My Concern is that the phone itself has issues and I may be out of luck because I have had the phone and dealt with the issues for so long.
So, My Biggest problem is one with Freezing. I have to reset my phone at least 5-10 times a day. I always have. Sometimes I even have to remove the battery to get the phone to reset. I do quite a bit of Texting with my phone and the freezing almost always seems to happen after I have sent a text and am trying to get back to the Home/Today Screen. The Phone just sits there, I can hit the end call button as much as I want and it will not go back to the home screen. The Phone is not completely locked tho because most of the time the Calling features still work, and I can even hit the windows button and get into the menu where I can get to task manager or a software reset button. If I try to hit the home Icon tho nothing seems to happen. The Phone just sits there and I have to reset it to get it working again.
This is frustrating me because the phone is not actually frozen, it seem to be stuck thinking but will never come back to life. When the phone works, its works great and does everything I need it to do. The Constant freezing and resets are driving me crazy. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I am pretty tech savy and have been installing roms on my phones for a couple years now. Please Help before I toss this thing out the window.

It is usually not desired to post the same information twice on different forums. The NRG thread has some responses to THIS EXACT POST that was made there. I know that cut-n-paste is easy, but avoid the temptation.

Will Do, I was just not sure where this questions belonged as I am unclear as to whether this is an NRG issue or a Phone Issue.
I have not had this experience, but I have read a lot of posts in the tilt forums where people complain of slow/laggy behavior using the htc messagaing tabs... I wanted to avoid that, so I just mapped my push-to-talk button to the windows mobile messaging client and use it. You might try doing that, if the HTC is what you are using now...
Off subject (new to this) but you mention "tilt forums" How do I find these s for my tilt phone? Looking for new apps also... I'm old

"Ghost inputing" problem.

I'm a first time poster. I have searched the Q&A section a few number of pages about my problem and I can't find anything.
My phone likes to press a certain area of the touch screen without me touching it at all. I don't really know what else to call it except "ghost inputing". Sometimes when I go to input text or when I'm at the home screen, it decides to go crazy. If I'm typing up a text message, if in portrait, my phone likes to type Q's even when I definitely don't want to. If I'm in landscape, a bunch of spaces and period is what it likes to press. If I'm at the home screen, the phone likes to pick up an app or open it.
It gets pretty annoying, especially when I'm just trying to reply to someones message. My only temporary way of fixing it was to turn on and off the screen. Sometimes it takes awhile.
I have tried flashing a stock 1.47 ota rom but it didn't really help, actually made it worse. Touch screen responsiveness dropped significantly, so i flashed back down to like 1.32 (responsiveness came back).
I got my phone the day it was released, so I don't even know if I can bring it back to Best Buy or not. Any kind of suggestion would be great... this problem can really bring my spirits down sometimes, especially when I'm showing off my phone to random people when they ask me. Kinda embarrassing to have my phone freak out when it's supposed to be a high end device....
Sounds like a warranty thing. I'd hit up htc.

Im having the same problem making my phone useless :/
I have been trying to bring this issue to light for sometime!!
I have a topic on it already if you guys want to add to it but the end result for me right now is trying to get the phone exchanged..

I have had the same problem.
Turning the screen on and off sometimes makes it go away. It seems like it started when I rooted (simple 3 click). Not positive about that though.
I'm now running Fresh 3.1.0.1 and it is better.

HOX on Orange UK. Getting worse. WIFI 'not in range' and Keyboard not responding

Hi All,
I hope someone can help me on this one, I've had a good search of both this forum and the internet in general on a couple of occasions and not found anything that can help me with my specific problems.
I'm relatively new to Android, and am running a HTC One X on Orange UK, still locked and on Android version 4.0.3.
I've really been enjoying the phone (battery life excepted), but a couple of things have begun to Plague me over the last couple of days.
1) I've installed SwiftKey and a couple of months ago, a very intermittent bug started happening, where as soon as I entered a text field, the keyboard would appear as normal, and the keys would 'pop up' to show I'd hit them, I'd even get the haptic feedback, but nothing would be entered into the text field. This tended to happen without fail when I was trying to show off to iPhone-owning friends. For a month or two, this was a minor annoyance, sometimes, clearing the cache at settings>apps>all>HTC Sense would fix it, sometimes it required a reboot. However, I've just done my second reboot of the day - it's getting worse. It doesn't seem to be Swiftkey exclusive, as it's just happened to me with the Sense keyboard.
2) This is a new problem that has only cropped up since mid-last-week; The phone has started to lose WIFI connections. Connections that I know are there. My HOX will be telling me that my home router is out of range, when my nexus 7 (and my laptop, and my wife's iPad) are all happily working away on that connection whilst in the same room. I haven't done the squeeze test yet, but I'm pretty sure that it's not a loose connection as a reboot addresses the problem. The same problem occurs at work so I've ruled out my router (I restarted it for the first time in months anyway, but that hasn't stopped the problem).
The last reboot (the one that's prompted this post) took place because both issue happened at once. I've taken care of my HOX, it's faced no physical trauma, it's unrooted, I've only ever installed apps from Play store, Amazon and Humble Bundle. The phone really seems to be degenerating badly at the moment, and I'm wondering if this is down to a software upgrade. I'm wonderng this because I've noticed the phone warming up in my pocket quite a lot recently and the battery life has been worse than normal.
Any advice that anyone can offer would be much appreciated.
The wifi thing is the standard HOX fault, and it'll need to be repaired. Check out the monster thread on it.
Thanks Rusty,
I'm going to look into that tonight. I don't believe that it is a loose antenna, but I'll confirm.

Keyboard lag/touch input problem while typing

Does anyone's S6 edge have this problem where you are typing a text, at least 10 words long or more, and the screen don't recognize touch input just once, but it happens every 15 to 20 words? Its freaking annoying and I've since switched to the google keyboard and this problem don't happen as much, but the problem is still there, its caused me to misspell at least 7 words so far that the keyboard has auto corrected. This is so damn annoying and I hope I'm the only one that has this problem that way I can take this phone back and get it replaced.
I guess I'm the only one
Happens to me sometimes, but not all the time. It's probably a RAM problem. I usually clean/close some opened apps with Cleanmaster to prevent lag. Hope the next update will fix memory management problem.
I'm on Android 5.1.1 and it supposedly has fixed the RAM issue and the problem still exists. I don't think it's a RAM issue. I think it's a software issue that when you type too fast it stops recognizing the presses. Hapes mainly with the backspace key. If I tap that button like 20 times it will stop pressing it no matter how hard I press.
I want to say this is a Edge thing not a S6 thing.
Try a different keyboard from play store, also try closing apps in background.
I haven't noticed the ever on this incredible phone.
Running stock no root yet, with 3 pages of apps disabled.
Pp.
I apologize for resurrecting this thread but, I've been searching for a while with no avail. Since I've upgraded to 5.1.1 I've been experiencing this issue. Has anyone in the time of this thread found a possible fix for this?
I've tried multiple things, maybe going to have to resort to cleaning up with a factory reset.
This phone is so beautiful, yet functions like a POS, minus the camera. It just sits on desk collecting dust. I too have the aforementioned issue, along with dozens of others. First phone I've ever regretted buying.

No response bugs

Some background info.
I bought my pixel XL from the Google store and I believe it came with the 63L build out of the box. I have since made it a point to completely wipe and fastboot flash the latest image Everytime an update is release, right now I am on the 26U build. The only thing I have done to my phone (and these bugs happen before and after) is bootloader unlock and root.
The bugs.
Every once in a while, my volume controls will quit working. I notice it happen more if I cast to my Chromecast and play a song or video (seperate) on my device. I'll hit the volume button and literally nothing will happen. To fix this I usually have to turn the display off, wait a few seconds, wake it back up, then the controls work fine again. I do not believe it is a hardware issue because i can fix it Everytime it happens.
The second bug, probably the most annoying, is that my nav bar will become completely unresponsive occasionally while in landscape orientation. Say I'm watching a video on YouTube in full screen, if I swipe to pull out my nav bar and hit the home/recent/back button, nothing will happen. I will see the animation however no vibration (feedback) or a action occurs.
This happens in games, YouTube, web browsers, doesn't matter as long as my phone is in landscape mode. Also note that when this happens, my device refuses to rotate back to portrait. This leaves my only solution (same as the volume bug) to turn off the display, wait a few seconds, and then I back on. Sometimes, however, this don't even work, and I'll have to jump straight to settings from my lockscreen to force the phone to portrait where the functionality of the nav bar returns.
I've contacted google, they run me through the typical steps "delete cache, have you tried a reset, update to the latest software", but nothing fixes it. They have told me repetitively it's not a common problem and it's not a problem that's worth rma'ing over.
I've been discovering my pixel has many small issues that no one else has. Such as the horrible transfer speed explain in my earlier thread, these bugs above, refusing to charge when the device is off, etc.
Has anyone had similar problems?
@noidea24,
I've had none of those issues. In fact, my Pixel XL has been flawless.
Not good. I guess I'm going to try and force a RMA.

Sorry to nit, but when I read the statement above I can't help but wonder if you actually did a factory reset. Reason I say that is you stated "have you tried a reset" and you didn't explicitly state that you did.
I kind of doubt the responsiveness stuff you're referring to is hardware related, it's probably software.
Whether or not a rogue app is affecting your device or a root app is impossible to determine without doing a factory reset and carefully adding one app/change at a time until the problem comes back. It's a PITA but that's what I'd do first to rule out hardware, and I'd simply run email and messaging apps unrooted for at least 24 hours to rule out hardware issues before I start loading up my favorite apps.

A factory reset is far from a pain in the ass, and yes, i have done it many times. the only things that makes it suck is when i have to transfer files back to my device because (as mentioned) i have terrible transfer speed from pc to device.
i have literally done everything i can to make this devices worth the price, and things are only getting worse. Since the post (later that night) i factory flashed once again, and re locked the bootloader. No root, No extra apps, hell, the only apps i had on my phone to begin with were facebook messenger, and that pixel car racer, i dont use anything else. ive had an even worse bug come in where my phone completely freezes when opening google camera and swiping to the video section. ill have to hold power until it force resets.
ive been with xda since my Motorola droid, Ive built roms for the community for my lg g2 and my nexus 6. hell, i even built kernels for my 5x (not public), so im a little past your average user complaining about some things that dont work due to user error. these are legitimate device flaws and malfunctions, and i was simply asking if anyone else has experienced them. and since it seems no one has, i have deemed my device faulty. now i have to come up with $600 for a service hold to get it replaced.
My experience with Googles first official flag ship has been pathetic, and im hoping that this replacement device i get (eventually) will persuade me not to go back to my 6p.
Well if that's the case then yeah I hope a replacement device will solve your issues. Sounds like it will.
Didn't mean to rile you up, just looking for clarity.
Good luck!
