I tried to surf this website on my browser on the mytouch 3g and realized that it is a pain the the @$$ to surf. I was wondering if there can be a mobile site.
- You can easily log into your account to access User CP and check your messages.
-Search for Threads and/or Add New Threads feature
-You can pick between Mobile or Desktop View
Also there are some other things that I feel could be better.
-When someone quotes you, you can get an email notification telling you. This way people don't have to subscribe to every thread they put a post to see if people respond to your post.
-A Google Chrome Plug-In like you can see your Account Status easier or search for forums from the URL Bar.
If anyone else has any issues that they want to be fixed please post them I'm pretty sure a Mod or Admin is going to see this thread.
I'm not sure if this has been proposed before but if it has please direct me to the thread and/or lock this thread. I really don't want to be banned or suspended. I searched but could find anything.
This probably would have been best to post in the sticky called (requests) From the Users to the Mods & Admins. However, I at least have an answer one of your questions, the mobile site one. Somebody on the boards (ktemkin) made a mobile site for XDA-Developers, which is can be accessed by going to http://xda-developers.mobi. It's not the prettiest site and it doesn't have full functionality, but it gets the job done better than any other solution out there at the moment. Hope that helps
Did not know about this. Like u said it's not pretty, but it's the best we have right now.
But vBulletin comes with built-in pda display -- no one ever sees this because it's obscure in the top-left menu on the homepage:
PDA layout

meh, that's just the standard Vbulletin Archive View, branded as a PDA layout. It's better than the standard view when on a mobile browser, but xda-developers.mobi renders things much better IMO. View the forum with your Hero's browser using each one, and I'm pretty sure you'll prefer xda-developers.mobi over the archive view. As I said, neither are perfect solutions, and a dedicated client (like the now halted XDApp) would be best, but both can get the job done to a degree.

The forums are dynamic. They adjust to the size of device you are using. Just browse to the regular URL and it will adjust accordingly.

Hi just a little thought, every year HTC bring out numerous devices, and also XDA's index gets a whole lot bigger, and models harder to find like the old way of just scrolling to the model.
Could xda not split the models?
eg. models pre xda diamond into a subforum like classic.xda-developers.com
as my fingers starting to hurt scrolling with the mouse, and its conflicting pain upon a human being
thanks
why not just use the search feature
yes i know theres a search feature, but im trying to make things easier, all i want is to scroll to latest models (which happen to be at end of the list) i'm not gonna use search feature just to type in touch hd2 and a whole lotta topics/posts come up, i'd use that if i wanted to find something specific.
this is how it should be: click xda dev, scroll to phone, enter subforums. easy.
now its: click xda dev, scroll scroll scroll scroll scroll look scroll look scroll look scroll, find, enter subforums.
Yep, there is a newly created search box on top right to go straight to the forums you wish.
Perhaps a 'favourites' would be a good idea though, so you only see the sections you've selected.
i just would like to also say, the new search thing is ugly at top, looks like its been thrown together quite quickly. maybe like sh500 says favourites or even a couple of drop downs instead of teh new search.
drop down1:
Win mobile - activates [1]
Android - activates [2]
drop down 2:
[1]win mobile models
[2]android models
or even better, be able to hide any forums, and it will remember your hidden/shown settings through username.

The first bit is what they already have? When you over your mouse of the 'Devices by OS or manufacturer'.
It's really not that much of an issue when you use plugins to make your surfing easier...
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4810
16 x 2 i have and everything is well easy to access
Why dont you create a new xda-forum for Pre-Windows Mobile deivces?
So creata a domain of: prewm.xda-developers.com
'jump to device' search box is working perfect, i dont feel need for any "improvements" , separating models to different pages/domains will make things worse and harder to navigate. maybe it is possible to make per user option in control panel to hide unwanted subforums from index page, but i am not sure how would it affect site server load.
can't it just be changed so it goes new phones to old phones at the bottom instead of vice versa?
The XDA forum redesign is launching soon. We'll have several ways to make it much more easy to navigate the forum index. This was a core focus of the redesign

Jump to device search on top is OK for PC, but it's not that easy at phone, especially if you have no-js opera mini.
And browsing xda with phone is nigthmare because index page is loading for ages.

Hi guys I'm still quite new to the forums and have just purchased the XDA premium app for android but I cant seem to find how to favourite a thread so it will show in the favourites tab. all helps appreciated thanks!
It's cool man - find the topic you like, press and hold on it then choose subscribe. It'll then show up under favorites. I believe you have to from the list of topics though, not while you're actually viewing it. Hope this helps!

That is quiet not user friendly, since we have "subscribe" to receive email notifications for new replies...
Talking about confusing, eh?
yes, poorly implemented.
With such a large forum I thought favorites would be helpful to shortcut to the sub-forums I read.
subscribe to make a favorite. to me that implies I would get alerts for all new posts which I don't want. we'll see.

You can shortcut the forums you'd like.
Simply long press on it and a Create Shortcut option is the bottom option.
Also, no you won't get alerts for all new posts. The only way you get alerted for new posts, is if you subscribe to a single thread and change the option to get notified.

Hi
Now don't take this the wrong way, but... Searching your forums is a headache!
OK if I wanted to find out something generic as rooting an Android phone, before posting one should search to see if it has been already posted, not a problem. Using the Google custom search you get 2.6 million results in no particular order, the 1st ten can range from 3 years ago to yesterday (most results do not show date) (results give very little info) so it is a bit of a lottery finding a relevant thread.
Using "Search this Forum" is all very well and good, but for one thing. Searching for "rooting an Android phone" from what can see is, that it can be found in a least 4 separate Forums...
So what's all the gripe about? Well back in the days of 486's & P1's myself and 2 others designed and implemented a search engine for the Royal Navy's internal Forum. The Forum being as large as xda's if not larger, displayed results: Forum Name, Title of Thread, Date and 1st two lines of thread as your basic search with option of advanced criteria.
It was simple and idiot proof and can be found in use all over the internet.
So to cap it off, one search engine displaying results in date order for entire Forum. Simples...

To be honest next time add in your device name. This is due to rooting an Android device depends on the device. I use the FF search plug in and my always defaults to the newest post. But I do agree I thing the plugin should be updated

Is there any way to search for a phrase together? Like "tell if I am root". The search results are always for the individual words, not the whole phrase, however I've tried it (quotes single and double, +'s, ANDs). I've also often found that search engines (I don't use Google) give more relevant results, even though they're all on XDA-developers.

On the xda android app there's a "participated" unread posts tab so that I can see all of the new posts in threads I've posted in but I can't find that here on the desktop version, just the "new posts" thing at the top which shows ALL new posts, even ones I haven't posted in. Am I missing this somewhere? (btw on 2010 theme, I really don't like the 2013)

There's no option in userCP for it.

If you use the XDA android app, in the "unread" button there's a "participated" and it shows every thread that someone has posted in that you have not read that YOU have at one time posted in.
On your computer I cannot find this option, only the "new post" button at the top that shows EVERY new post, even if you have never posted in that thread.
It seemed odd that the android app would have a feature the regular computer browser version doesn't, so I figured I must just be stupid and cannot find it.
Ideas?

I'm confused. Maybe it's because my settings are set to auto-subscribe me to any thread I post in? That's the way it was when I signed up and the way it's been on every forum I've been a part of. Clicking UserCP at the top (2010 theme) takes me to a listing of all the threads I've participated in & am subscribed to & have unread replies. They're shown in bold and ordered by which has the latest reply.

I see, well I didn't realize that I had to be subscribed for that.
I just did a "no emal" subscribe, so that should start showing up for me too.
Thanks.
I think a good addition might be to just add a "participated new post" button like they have in the tapatalk xda app
Yeah, that was definitely it. I guess the app somehow can keep thread subscriptions ("participated") without the website actually keeping them. That's weird. That's why I was always wondering, why is there a participated tab and a favorite threads tab? Because in the app I use Favorites -> Threads; it's the equivalent of UserCP.

Sounds like it. Apparently you don't have to be "subscribed" to it for the app to show it but on the PC you do.
Anyways it works now because I just tried it and this thread showed up with your unread post for me. Cheers.
