Hi just a little thought, every year HTC bring out numerous devices, and also XDA's index gets a whole lot bigger, and models harder to find like the old way of just scrolling to the model.
Could xda not split the models?
eg. models pre xda diamond into a subforum like classic.xda-developers.com
as my fingers starting to hurt scrolling with the mouse, and its conflicting pain upon a human being
thanks
why not just use the search feature
yes i know theres a search feature, but im trying to make things easier, all i want is to scroll to latest models (which happen to be at end of the list) i'm not gonna use search feature just to type in touch hd2 and a whole lotta topics/posts come up, i'd use that if i wanted to find something specific.
this is how it should be: click xda dev, scroll to phone, enter subforums. easy.
now its: click xda dev, scroll scroll scroll scroll scroll look scroll look scroll look scroll, find, enter subforums.
Yep, there is a newly created search box on top right to go straight to the forums you wish.
Perhaps a 'favourites' would be a good idea though, so you only see the sections you've selected.
i just would like to also say, the new search thing is ugly at top, looks like its been thrown together quite quickly. maybe like sh500 says favourites or even a couple of drop downs instead of teh new search.
drop down1:
Win mobile - activates [1]
Android - activates [2]
drop down 2:
[1]win mobile models
[2]android models
or even better, be able to hide any forums, and it will remember your hidden/shown settings through username.

It's really not that much of an issue when you use plugins to make your surfing easier...

16 x 2 i have and everything is well easy to access
Why dont you create a new xda-forum for Pre-Windows Mobile deivces?
So creata a domain of: prewm.xda-developers.com
'jump to device' search box is working perfect, i dont feel need for any "improvements" , separating models to different pages/domains will make things worse and harder to navigate. maybe it is possible to make per user option in control panel to hide unwanted subforums from index page, but i am not sure how would it affect site server load.
can't it just be changed so it goes new phones to old phones at the bottom instead of vice versa?
The XDA forum redesign is launching soon. We'll have several ways to make it much more easy to navigate the forum index. This was a core focus of the redesign

And browsing xda with phone is nigthmare because index page is loading for ages.

Hey Guys i found this link in the titan forum and i have installed and used this piece of software on my TYTN, it works 100% and it is BRILLIANT!!
I DO NOT WANT TO TAKE ANY CREDIT AT ALL FOR THIS, I HAD NO INPUT INTO THE DEVELOPEMENT, THAT WAS SOLEY DOWN TO emunutz (HE WILL ALSO PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR THE PROGRAM - NOT ME, OTHER THAN FOR MY FIXES)
I HOPE YOU ENJOY IT AS MUCH AS I HAVE!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319308
My Fixes:
FIX 1
Description: HTC Home FIX!
Error Description: When using ANY HTC Home Plugin, i found the following graphical error:
ill use the home tab as my example, when it is not selected, it is dull and transparent, and when you select it it gets a grey box around it and the icon image becomes lighter, this happens with all icons appart from the music note and the contacts tab
FIX:
i have fixed the images so that when they are selected they react the same as the others.
TO USE:
Extract then copy the Original Icons Fixi have attached into the following folder replacing the ones in there:
HTC HOME Customise\HTC Home Customizer v07\FILES\icons\Original
Then apply the "Original" Icon Set.
FIX 2
Extract then copy the Transparent selected file to:
HTC Home Customizer v07\FILES\bg\Original Semi-Transparent
And it will make the Grey selection Box that appears around the selected tab Transparent!
My Packages/Upgrades:
1) Original Icons 3D Style
To Have The 6 Tab Icons In 3D Download Original 3D Icons inside the zip you will find 2 folders "Original" & "Original 3D"
The "Original 3D" folder has the new icons in it, copy these icons to:
HTC Home Customizer v07\FILES\icons\Original
Then select the "Original" icons from the Software.
If you decide to go back to the normal (non 3D) "Original" Icons, copy all of the files in the "Original" folder from "Original 3D Icons.zip" and copy them to the directory above, then select the "Original" icons from the Software.
FIX

I didnt realize! Mainly because i contacted the OP if the thread in the Titan Forum and he told me that it was his software and he was devoloping it.
I offered to have a play with some of the griphics and he asked that if I did anything could i post it on his thread so he could add it to his package.
Firstly i was looking for things that needed improvement and i released these 2 fixes, posted them in the Original thread and here so everyone could benefit
Thanks bennec83. Just a quick question. Does this work with the HTC Home 3 tabs version? I rather like the 3 tabs version as it is more finger friendly.

In theory (and we all know how accurate theory is) it should work with the 3-tab except for the tab order setting, as long as the version you are running installs to either \Windows or \HTCHome.
Another option would be to install the 6-tab version, run the customizer, and in the tab order setting you can select how many tabs and what order you want them in (which means you can display only 3 if you would like, and in any order you choose).

I tryed that and it didnt work, i have the 6 button kaiser home plugin, and it installs to \HTCHome, i used the customiser to change the order if the tabs and NOTHING happened.
I have been so bogged down with other stuff i didnt get a chance to message you!
Any clues?
thanks
You'll need a 6-tab cab that supports the tab order setting. In my thread, toward the bottom are RapidShare links for cabs that fully support all settings for the customizer for WM5 and WM6, including tab order.

I am having the custom weather database "Unable to retrieve weather" problem. I read the thread in the Titan forum, but could not resolve it and the linked N2A thread. I am using the cab file from that thread, not the Pocket Hosts method.
I am in the US, so I run the customizer (which completely rocks btw) and enter my city, zip code and USA for country. I get the cannot connect error. I read the post about switching to alternate connection, navigating to htc.accuweather.com, etc. but I do not actually know wtf is meant by switching to alternate connection? You mean wifi v. gsm connection??? I do get the error page "You have reached an inconfigured webpage..." when I navigate to htc.accuweather.com on any connection. (My city is on accuweather's US site, but not on the international site. That is, after all, the point of this customization, right?)
Any help appreiated - thx.

OK OK! I did read the first other thread. Thought you might know.
I've using my NG for a week now and still trying to figure out how to copy/paste.
I see the check mark come up when I highlight text but I can't figure out how to get the text to copy. I tap the check mark but doesn't seem to do anything.
Any good YouTube videos or anything that show how to do this?
It's not the check mark you want, next to the words "select all" you'll see an icon that looks like two pages, clicking that will show a dialogue at the bottom of your screen saying, "text copied to clipboard". Pressing and holding again will give you the option to paste.
Thank you , feel pretty dumb now.
Or just simply tap highlighted text again ....

Don't be. I had the same problem myself. It's a crappy system. Moreover good questions like this create a good reference for new users moving forward.
There are no such things a stupid questions or feeling dumb, just learn from your mistake or the hole in your knowledge and try to pass on what you know the next time someone else needs help.
I had exactly the same issue finally figured it out after my third attempt at copying from a browser window!
I wish there was an easier way to scroll the cursor around tho, i miss the trackball on my N1. They really should add a popup onscreen wheel onto the keyboard.
Off topic sorta, but I was just reading an article where one of the Cons of Android vs iOS is that Android doesn't have system wide Copy/Paste.

i'm not able to cut and paste from within tweet deck like I could on my Gingerbread. Quite frustrating
Theres a manual that covers all such essentials.

The manual that should have come in the box IMHO!!
Hi
Now don't take this the wrong way, but... Searching your forums is a headache!
OK if I wanted to find out something generic as rooting an Android phone, before posting one should search to see if it has been already posted, not a problem. Using the Google custom search you get 2.6 million results in no particular order, the 1st ten can range from 3 years ago to yesterday (most results do not show date) (results give very little info) so it is a bit of a lottery finding a relevant thread.
Using "Search this Forum" is all very well and good, but for one thing. Searching for "rooting an Android phone" from what can see is, that it can be found in a least 4 separate Forums...
So what's all the gripe about? Well back in the days of 486's & P1's myself and 2 others designed and implemented a search engine for the Royal Navy's internal Forum. The Forum being as large as xda's if not larger, displayed results: Forum Name, Title of Thread, Date and 1st two lines of thread as your basic search with option of advanced criteria.
It was simple and idiot proof and can be found in use all over the internet.
So to cap it off, one search engine displaying results in date order for entire Forum. Simples...

Is there any way to search for a phrase together? Like "tell if I am root". The search results are always for the individual words, not the whole phrase, however I've tried it (quotes single and double, +'s, ANDs). I've also often found that search engines (I don't use Google) give more relevant results, even though they're all on XDA-developers.

Today we are announcing the public beta of the new "2013" theme for the XDA forums. This theme is in active development, though for the most part it should be suitable for daily use. You can access it via the "Style Chooser" in the bottom left corner of most pages.
Please note: this theme is not bug free. It's possible that you will notice some funky behavior while using it.
Some of the primary benefits/features:
When we finish optimizing, it will be significantly faster than the existing "XDA 2010" theme.
Optimized for displays 1280 width screen resolution
We've added a sidebar to update you on PMs and subscribed threads/forums. This is collapsible for users when reading threads.
Tabbed home page which will default to showing your subscriptions to give you easy-access to the forums you care about most.
Enhanced device information pages (for example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1533) that will show specs and root instructions for some devices.
Plus many other little additions and improvements.
Most of the user-facing changes are cosmetic. We created XDA 2013 as a platform for much more significant enhancements to the site, which will be rolling out over the next few months.
Please use this thread to post your comments and suggestions. If you have bugs to report, please post your thoughts in this thread.
Thank you for your help!
Just wondering, is there a place where we users can send in our device's info, so that the people working on it won't have so much work?
Cheers for all the effort put into it! Looks awesome!
Use it sice a week and its very fast. the only problem is the thanks-expand-arrow, he is too wide away from the text
Admin Edit: I made the "expand" text clickable also. - js1999
Edit: Thanks Admin
Awesome loving the new refreshed look of the site
just a suggestion.
The "online" symbol should be more green as currently difference between offline(black) and online(green) is very less noticeable
I really hate that there is so much crammed everyhwere, the right side portal stories are annoying, if I want portal stories I click on "portal"
I think the 2010 version is better, some of the fonts are cooler on the 2013 version but there is just way too much crammed on the screen at once.
sweet, trying it now.
This is defiantly different, looks clean, futuristic. I like it, will take sometime for my eyes to adjust to it tho.

You can close the sidebar if you don't really like it.
So far, the only thing I don't really like about this is the fact that if you click on a device (e.g. the HD2) all of the subforums appear. I understand that outside of the HD2 this won't be a major problem, but it still looks a bit clunky. Also, on normal zoom (i.e. I've pressed ctrl+0) I get a scroll bar thing along the bottom? Seems a bit odd, probably just a little glitch. Don't have it outside of when I'm replying though.
Needs are darker font system wide. Post_bit fonts are too light. That's the only thing that I see that I would change at this point.
But, that's just the VBulletin Admin in me coming out. LOL.

It's up the top right in the forum view too.
I think he meant the Forum Home view. There is no choice to collapse it on the main All Forums page.
Hmm I must not be special enough to get that option yet .
How about an inverted/dark/black theme for AMOLED devices when people don't use Tapatalk?
Oh my, this is quite nice.
The new theme is kinda awesome
But the page goes out of my screen so i have scroll a lil bit ... !!
Can we maybe have an option to only remove the portal posts from the side bar but instead display ALL messages and subscribed threads / fora?
Because clicking on "View all messages" takes you to the PM page. I'd rather have them in that list (best would be if it takes as much place as available ) (same for threads and fora)
if possible remove xda portal sidebar......if other guys agrees on it
Without changing to the old XDA theme down below (ie XDA 2015) which works amazingly well and advanced search is very useful and you can arrange your results that can come in the form of THREADS or individual POSTS and sort by relevance, last posting date, creation date....and the list goes on.
The search feature now you just begin typing and pray to god what you search for make something pop up close to what you are wanting. Good luck though because most likely the results are going to be in a terrible non chronilogical order (i have results pop up from 3 years ago....then very next result is from 2018 and all over the place!!)
How in the heck can you perform an advanced search without going down below and changing the theme to something OLD so that you can reach the "advanced search" button
The search plus feature is a piece of junk
Educate me on how the AVERAGE person is not immediately turned off and frustrated by this. If it wasn't for the old theme still avalible down below....i absolutely could not find what i am searching for on this website.

It's difficult to reach the advanced search form using the XDA 2015 theme indeed (I don't know if there's a reason for this...), but you still can use it here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php
I'm still in the process to find an easy way to go to this form using the xda 2015 theme though. I can't remind where it is located besides from any user's post history (see my screenshots, click on Search Forums)...
In the 2015 theme, the "regular" advanced search is located at the top of EVRY forum index page. Just click the gear icon next to the search box.
Okay.
This needs to be available at the top of the forums home page and easily identified.
I am not dumb, I am a long time xda user and know I'm not the only one that has struggled to search these forums the last few years.
The "search plus" feature is being thrown in front of us and trying to be forced down our throats but it's awful and it's a project that needs to be abandonned or a choice given at the fourm home portal.
