Does anyone have another android device with 2.x and Titanium so they can make a back up .apk?
I saw a video where a guy got it to work on a Gen8 tablet.

I've googled this one...
Thank you for contacting NYTimes.com.
The Android NYTimes Reader is currently only available through the Android
market for devices and OS versions that have been explicitly approved by
Google to access copy-protected applications in the Market. Unfortunately at
this time there are no plans to distribute the installation package via
other channels.

I did a little investigating with this one. There are at present several obstacles to the NYTimes app working on the edge:
1. It is allegedly built for Android 2.0+
2. It's not available outside the market
3. Even obtained through a device with market access, the apk is a "Protected App" and therefore cannot be backed up via astro and exported in the usual workaround. (at least, not unless your phone is rooted)
4. Even then, many apps obtained through the market are linked to a goggle account (especially protected ones, even if free) and if somehow circumvented, they may cease functioning when the device that the apk is put onto (like the edge) does not match that account.

But he was running it...
with adb it is possible to extract
I have a few Android devices, and I'm trying to install some favorite apps (that I can't seem to get via Amazon Market or Google Market,) Facebook being one of those.
I was able to adb pull Facebook.apk from another tablet I have, however, it's ver 1.5.2. Tablet says that it is running 1.7.2. That means that, not only did the old app stay on the tablet after the Market updated Facebook, BUT the new app is either named differently, or installed in a completely different location (not /system/app nor SDCard - I checked.)
I was working with Redbox as well, and I simply could NOT figure out where it was installed on 2 other Android devices. It is ALSO NOT installed to the SDCard.
I can see both processes running (NOT app_xx processes, btw.) The Redbox app was com.redbox.android.activity and Facebook was com.facebook.katana.
I am seeking enlightenment!
Side-bar: I am wondering if these are NDK applications. Do NDK applications need to be re-compliled for each individual platform? Are they installed differently than SDK applications? (i.e. in different locations in the filesystem)

Use adb or Android Commander to find them here: /data/app. It is on the root file system. That's where most apps go that are installed from the Market and such.
you will preobably find the facebook app in /data/app you could also look for redbox in /data/app-private
I found the new play store of Jely Bean! (New android 4.1) , You can download it in the attached file
How to install manually?
1. - In your Android goes to Settings -> Applications -> and check the box Unknown sources, so you can install applications manually.
2. - Download the Google APK Store v3.7.11 Play, your smartphone or tablet connects via USB to your computer and copy the APK downloaded to the microSD card from your android and disconnect your device from your computer.
3. - With a file browser goes to the contents of the microSD card and find the APK Store v3.7.11 and Google Play install it, will tell you that you are overwriting an operating system application and you must accept it.
That's it, after a few seconds you will have installed the new Android app store on your device.

Hey guy's, I brought a new HTC 8s on our independence day replacing my explorer. It is too good to see but many issues in it (possibly will be fixed in next updates). The only thing I want on it that to use the non-store apps. I have tried but the downloaded files are showing unsupported error message. As windows support .xap files (as .apk in android as we know), so I don't think it will create any issue by using non-store apps.
please suggest........

Hello, I don't know but I think that Windows Phone is the same of iOS ecosystem: you can download Apps only from Windows Phone Store.
Even though you can manually download xap file, store it on Sd-Card, the installation procedure will look to the Windows Phone Store to verify it. No way to install application without the Store.

but no developer is interested to create apps or games as compared to Android

I now have a working 4.4.4 on my Wildfire S and I have set the default application install location to 2 (SDCard) and I downloaded the apk of:
com.google.android.apps.maps_V10.11.1.1011100030_Android-44.apk
I then installed from file manager and it all went well
When i opened the map app i get and error either google maps has stopped or that i need to reinstall it
Is it just not possible to run or is there another version or a fix available?
(It is a 32GB SanDisk MicroSD)
Whil I remember also BBC News opened but didn't seem to be able to get a connection - does this no longer work for 4.4.4 Android?

Hello, have you checked APK file if it has libs for ARMv6 architecture?
I will take a look into this in the next few days - than you!
Doesn't look like it does - armv7 in the libs, have tried the version from spec-gapps-4.4.4-basic-v2.6 and various others to no avail, tried setting accuracy for gps only too (Sometimes fixes maps - it did on my 7.1.2 S3 Mini)
Older version 7.7 opens but requires update so that effectively doesn't work either
Is there another map app i can use that might work on armv6 and android 4.4.4 or a version that someone knows that would work?
