[Q] Kindle Fire 2 technical documentation? - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am interested in reading the docs about the technology used in the second Kindle Fire, but I can't find it anywhere. Is there any documentation, or am I just looking in the wrong places?
I am interested in attempting to write a driver for using the Kindle Fire's screen for use with the Raspberry Pi. I know I know absolutely nothing about driver writing, but I have to start somewhere...
Thank you if you can help me.

You may find it more helpful to post in the correct forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1789 .

I can't, I have less than 10 posts...

Tell me about your kindle

Hi there,
So I've been around this forum for a while and I've done pretty excessive flashing of custom roms / mods / themes for my android phones this far.
I never had a tablet, but I feel somewhat in love with the new kindle fire HD, so here is my question:
To anyone of you who have been around for some time and have another popular developer device with lots of custom roms and stuff:
#1 Is there a lot of development support for the kindle here on xda? It seems to be a really great device but I don't want to buy some tablet that has minor development (roms, bug fixes, CM9-10 support, kernels).
#2 From your perspective: how hard is it to really brick the old kindle fire? For me it would be essential to root my new kindle fire HD, this means no warranty if bricked (that's at least how it gets handled on other devices).
#3 As I'm form Germany, does someone know if there are any problems when using it outside of the USA? For anyone who does not know: Kindle fire HD 8.9 is only available in the USA, it's 7'' brother however will be available all over the world (and I'm gonna buy the 8.9'' one).
#4 How about usb OTG? Supported? Working on custom roms? If not, maybe someone knows about usb OTG on the new kindle fire HD?
Thanks in advance!

Typically, the only thing that will permanently brick the device is physical damage.

I could be wrong, but I think the Amazon app store and video on demand were only available in the US but it may have been changed since the announcement of the new devices.

USB OTG is supported, but there isn't very much in regards to power output ( around 3V), so you'll need a powered hub. And not all OTG devices work so it's kind of a crap shoot.
There is a lot of development for the 2011 kindle fire so I'm pretty sure that a lot of developers will do great things for the new versions
If you live outside the US(like me), you won't be able to fully enjoy the stock kindle fire. If you're gonna buy the HD, I advice rooting and installing a custom ROM once available.
I bought a 2011 version kindle fire a couple of days ago(the store was selling it for $115) and I was able to root it quite easily(I didn't root my galaxy s2 and nexus 7 so this is my 1st attempt to root an android device). Installing ROMs may seem daunting at first but once you get the hang of it, it's actually quite easy.

[Q] ANY Dev Working on getting us 4.2?

Sorry for my impatience, but I haven't seen ANYTHING on the dev page or questions... This is something a LOT of us would like, even though a lot of our attention is going towards the Kindle Fire HD. Thanks!
when, i might ask?
Devices:
Kindle Fire with AlienDroid primary and Modaco secondary

When he gets it done. It is really rude to ask for ETAs when the Devs have life's just like you and I, maybe they just don't want to spend all their days working on it. And a lot of devs do this part-time I'm between their actual work hours
so Hashcode will have it done when he gets done

[Q] Development for the new Kindle Fire?

Alright, Please forgive me for not being caught up on my Kindle Fire news.
Someone asked me the other day if they should buy one. Specifically this:
www[.]amazon[.]com/dp/B0083Q04IQ/
I have rooted and ROM'd a couple friends' Kindle Fires for them, but this was before Amazon released the latest round of new Kindle devices.
Does Hashcode's CM 10 ROM and Kernel work with this device?
Tell them to save their money. No Hashcodes will not work on this device. Development for this device can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1789 .

Bummer, that's what I was afraid of. Thanks for the info.
Ya it`s not really worth it IMO.
Not when you can get a Nexus 7 for $40 more.
Serious I know and it will root nice, lots of custom roms and no lockscreen adds arghh.

Heads Up! Some Noob tips from a fellow noob.

1st. Unplug your Kindle from your USB port now! You haven't read enough yet!
But seriously..
Know what ver of Kindle Fire you own before you start. Is it a Kindle Fire, a Kindle Fire HD, a Kindle Fire 2? Its important. They're different. You'll fail to mod your KF and make a paper weight quickly.
Read the posted instructions. Read em again. Go make a cup of coffee and come back and read them again.
Search through the threads for bits of wisdom. Read the threads you dont think you need to read, you'll find something usefull.
Be prepared, you can do it right and still have something go wrong. Get a factory cable. It will come in handy when you brick your KF. Dont think it can't happpen to you. These forums are full of people needing help with soft and hard bricks.
Dont rush, and dont work distracted. Typos are not your friends when you're working from a terminal prompt.
If you're not sure, ask before you try something. There are some very very cool people here who will help you. Some will even walk you through it on the IRC channel if need be.
If anything I've said sems vague or unclear or less than detailed, it's because you haven't read enough. I can't over state just how important reading everything over & over again is.
Oh, and lastly dont forget to have fun. It should be fun. (bet you thought I ws gonna say read again, didnt you?)
Clean this up a bit. Add some info on how people can know which kindle they have.... After that, this should be a sticky.

..speaking of those oh so very cool people.
Thank you for your kind remarks.
I'll do as you suggest when I get home tonight. :good:
.. And i appreciate your compliment, good sir.
I do the best i can, but we've got some real gurus lurking around here. Kf2 is a small community but the work done by so few is appreciated by many.

the first thing people should have before doing anything is a fastboot cable and having adb drivers installed, and when you are going to install second bootloader read all (and read it 2 times or more) because you can brick your tablet forever (or not) so Forewarned is forearmed
