Ota was earlier this week. It's the Exynos security fix. uvall4 is the version.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
I had same concerns. I used ota rootkeeper as recommended by others and updated without loosing root.

If you root by means of the ExynosAbuse APK v1.40 your device status will remain "normal". Then if you use OTA RootKeeper then you can do the update and retain root as well as your device status remaining "normal". See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2111188

Just want to give you an update on what happened with me:
I'm not sure when it happened but my device status changed from normal to modified (I did the OTA using OTA RootKeeper and device status was normal for about two days). The only thing I did after that was open SuperSU and noticed that it stated that I needed that to update the binary. I just cancelled that and when I checked I noticed that the device status was changed So my question is does anybody have any idea how I can be rooted with the device status reading as normal with the T889UVALL4 update?. Are there any other options for me to be rooted with a device status of normal?
Edit: Funny, I rebooted and the device status reverted back to normal. I even connected to the AllShare dongle to check and all is working.

Hey guys
I recently rooted my Galaxy Note II but now that the multi-screen update is out I want to unroot it to be able to update my mobile phone. How can I do so without re-flashing my device? I also looked for the newer build that contains the multi-screen functionality but I couldn't find the one for my region (UAE). So please if anybody finds it please post the link because I think it would be so much easier and faster...
I am afraid I was on the same position like yours and I did unroot, just go to SU and select the option to Unroot and SU will be uninstalled and your device will be unrooted for sure but some trace will still be there and device status will stay as 'Custom'. Even if you use the Play Store version of Trinagle Away and reset the counters! To make it official either you have to perform a Full wipe, if that don't do it, then you have to re-flash the whole ROM.
Unless and until your device status and binary both are Official you WON'T be receiving any update via OTA or Kies.

Hi there
If you are rooted you can still get Over The Air updates so dont worry
You can find all stock ROMs here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696
And there is no need to Unroot to flash a newer version of stock ROM. Unroot or keep rooted, flashing a rom will have the same effect, and updare over the air will have sane effect :good:
Hit thanks if i helped
I can absolutely confirm no need to unroot - I rooted mine immediately I received it last week, after a couple of days it automatically updated ota to multiscreen.

Thats wrong.
I myself have updated OTA with root.
And its also wrong that you will not get OTA update. Lol we even get OTA updates on totally customized Custom Roms but they cant be updated because of change kernel (and changes in rom ofc).
And lol he is quoting dr.ketan and saying that he is wrong. dr.ketan is a recognized contributor so he would be correct or this person? i stand and testify dr.ketan's statement

No need to bash me friend. I am not questioning anybody, I just asked 'why'? I don't think it's unfair. And I am not the ONLY person. I have see other persons have the exact same problem like me.
And another thing, do you really think this RC/RD/Thanks meter stuffs mean that much? I am not questioning Dr.Ketan's credibility by ANY MEANS but you know what I mean!
One thing, what I've said is applied to them who have rooted with either Chainfire's Stcok recovery or Chenglu's Advanced recovery, can't say about any other thing.

Someone flashed me to 4.1.1 and told me not to do the OTA update when I get it and I am unsure his reasoning. I have just received the OTA update and am hesitant to do so cause he told me I shouldn't this is my build.

Is that the only reason not to accept the OTA, he did root it but that can always be redone. If I accept it I wont loose my data saved on my phone will I? I shouldn't I would think

Root doesn't prevent OTA updates from installing. However, installing the update will unroot the phone unless you use something like CWM which can keep root for you.

I tried the OTA but it shows an android with a Red sign in his belly. So basically I want to get my phone back to where I can get updates straight from Google and I don't need my phone rooted. Is this possible? If so I need instructions lol Much appreciated!
I keep getting a notification about an ATT update and I was wondering if it will affect my rooted phone. I just have a basic 'stock' odin root, not a custom Rom. The update will not let me disable notifications and will only let me delay the reminders 8 hrs........... I am getting tired of seeing the notifications and dont know what it will do if I update. Any advice is appreciated!!!
Thanks

Yeah it will remove the root but you can re-root it after the update or use supersu pro to conserve root (though not guaranteed).
Have you modified any system apps or files at all? If not i don't see why you won't, just be sure to run Voodoo OTA Keeper before installing the update and restore it after the update. As this update patches the ExynosAbuse exploit
Download OTA root keeper from the play store.

So you are saying that you were on a rooted stock LK2 ROM, and ran the OTA update successfully without losing root? And this was without using RootKeeper OTA or SuperuserSU set to protect root?

Your phone will not correctly install an OTA update if you have a custom recovery. You will need to find it in the development forums, already rooted, and as a flashable ZIP in custom recovery.
So I updated to 4.1.2 recently and decided I'd simply root my phone. Now today I have the AT&T updater telling me I have an update pending. I'm already on 4.1.2 and the only possible reason I could conceive as to why this is popping up is because during rooting something must have changed and that flagged the updater as me having an obsolete firmware. Anyone else getting this?

If you are going to stick with stock, you may want to use autoruns to disable the check for updates. That way at least the notification will go away.

i have same issue,however kies indicates 4.1.1 is up-to-date.
any suggestions for kies issue?

Of course. And after promising the update after advertising it they halt it. And they put out no official posting of this that I could find. Or the person you talked to is full of it because they don't know why you have not got it and don't want to bother or don't know how to figure it out. The last is the most likely.
Now of it is true about the bug I wonder if they will push the bug free version out to everyone again.

You updated via Kies? I believe AT&T is only updating OTA, not through Kies.
Also, I was pure stock, but rooted. The update failed. It left my phone half updated and I couldn't get it to update, even after unrooting. This appears to be what happened to most rooted 4.1.1 phones on AT&T.
I had to flash back to stock via Kies in order for the update to work.

Oh I'm sorry. Since this is an AT&T forum I just assumed.
I'm sure in a worse case scenario you can just flash it back to stock. I choose to use Kies because then I didn't have to download the correct firmware like you do with Odin.
The flash counter still says 1, but the Device Status did reset to Normal. Of course I lost root.

I'd love to know a proper way to root without tripping the counter on 4.1.2. I rooted the other day and now it wont let me turn on my wifi. Good thing the phone was only a month old lol, new phone is already on the way from AT&T. Any help is greatly appreciated as I have searched and googled already.

I don't think rooting enables tripping the counter. From what I understand, Tripping flash counter occurs when you flash a custom recovery on jellybean. Best method is to just reset the flash counter when you are going to unroot your phone by using the TriangleAway app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114
