its a great way to share internet from your computer...
my computer is at the other end of my house and it gets great wifi reception though my tiny phone does not. To fix this, i put another wifi adapter in my computer and created an ad-hoc network. Now i just use my phone to connect to that network and now have great wifi reception on my phone
Google connectify.

Working wireless tether for root users?

Does anybody know what version of the Wireless Tether for root users works with the rooted stock ROM for the Inc2? Tried the latest 3.1 beta (3.1b6) but it doesn't work.
try this
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/detail?name=wireless_tether_2_0_7.apk
Im using the 2.0.7 wireless tether and does not work on my dinc 2, im running tsm_gingerbangsense_2 this is the message. Cannot communicate with DNS server (#########) Network diagnostic pinged the remote host but did not receive a response.
In the network and sharing center i can see this (this computer-Android tether-----x-----)
works fantastic on inc2HD
I found that Open Garden app works just great.
Not being able to communicate with the dns server means your phone can't connect to the internet, so there is nothing to rebroadcast via wifi. are you within a good signal area for 3g, and does your data work in other apps?

Hi OP.
Enable mss clamping and routing fix in settings on the newest beta. You will be up and running in seconds.
I noticed that using power savers may disable tethering. Uninstall those as well.

I'm having the exact same problem. I've tried multiple tethering apps and none of them work and last time I tried using open garden it broke my 3G and I had to revert to a backup. I'm running MIUI 10.7.
This may be a dumb question, but can root users use the 3g hotspot found in wireless settings for free? Or do I need to download another app.

All depends on the ROM. If you're running the stock ROM but just rooted you'll need another app. Some ROM developers hack the built in app.
I use wireless teather 2.0.7 its from google and have no problems

use wifi data to hotspot

I've been searching around for a while now trying to figure out how to tether a wifi connection thru wifi hotspot without mobile connection. cm7 won't let me. everything i see is for tethering a mobile connection.
Stock ROM defaults to the wifi I've done it and even made a thread about it

CM7.1 (and I believe CM7) has a Portable WiFi Hotspot feature, it's in the tethering section of the wireless/network settings

Yes. I'm aware of the tethering settings in cm7.1, thank you. You didn't properly read my post. I want to tether a Wifi data Conncection over wifi WITHOUT HAVING A MOBILE CONNECTION. As in no 5g,4g,3g, or even 2g data.

Ah, okay, I misunderstood.
So you're basically trying to use your device as an external wireless adapter for a computer that doesn't have wireless built in?

to be honest...i'm having a problem with my landlord having a problem with my service provider. i'm using my neighbors wifi. but it only really comes into one room well. i'm hoping to use my device to extend the signal to the other rooms. it has no data plan. but CM7 turns wifi off when you tether over wifi. i think I've gotten this to work on my g1 using pdanet but its really unstable, and i think its the app.

[Q] Wifi Tether - Show connected clients

Hey guys, i got a question about the Wifi tethering on the Xperia S.
is it possible to show the connected devices via an app or with the system himself, when i have Wifi tethering on? i don't want to look everytime in the dnsmasq.leases file or what it calls.
Just password protect it with wpa2 and you should be more then secure

Good question.
WiFi is seen as off when WiFi tethering is enabled, so applications like Fing and WiFi Analyzer just see the WiFi interface as down.
You have to have 'conventional' WiFi disabled and WiFi thethering enabled, so this would only be a short term config under a controlled environment in most cases.
It's true WPA2 and a password does provide good basic security, but....
I have an old XPERIA X10i with a 64GB mircroSD card which could make a short to long term mobile NAS and in such an environment where many people are using your hotspot "NAS" for documents, music and/or videos access/streaming, knowing if someone is using it before disabling the service may be helpful.
So, I too, would be interested if there is an app that sees the tethered interface and the network connections using it.
I have done little reaserch and came up with this.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.overlook.android.fing&hl=en
try it

Interesting. How did you enable and view the tethered interface when Fing only monitors wlan0?
I didnt, i only search on google. Some guys were report they use this app for that action
I actually saw it on the Galaxy S3 which has tethering enabled and shows the connected devices. so i think it can be done if we port the tethering app from the galaxy s3 to the XS. after that it should work.. maybe.. =D
btw. i tested the app and it didn't work.. :/
Just curious, can you instal that app on second phone and conect to host, can you then look which devices are conected to it?

How to set up a WiFi hotspot

Hi
Can anybody steer me in the right direction. I have a nx7 2013 I want to connect it to a WiFi network but it won't connect, just goes from connecting to saved, help desk won't help, so I thought if I can get my phone to connect to WiFi network I can then connect my tablet to network through phone by setting up WiFi hotspot ( think this is right). I have never set up a WiFi hotspot so am a newbie at this can anybody help or know where there are some simple instructions. Thanks
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app
As far as hotspot goes, I don't think you can get it through wifi. It has to come from your cellular data. Just be aware that you will be using your phone data. Do you need directions to set up hotspot? It depends on your device and your carrier. On GP devices, it's under wireless and networks>more. It should be somewhere in network/wireless settings. When you activate it, your device will generate an ssid and a passcode to use for connecting devices.
However, your tab will use its WiFi to connect to the phone's hotspot so if that works, I'd say that you either typed in the wrong security code on your N7, or your router needs a reboot-even if every other device connects to it.

Hi thanks, the WiFi network im trying to connect to I have no control over or access to router etc. I thought / hoped I could connect phone to WiFi network then connect tablet to phone so tablet is connecting to WiFi network through phone, is this possible.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app
As I stated, I don't think that's possible as the hotspot is run through the phone's modem. Have you tried connecting to a public wifi such as Starbuck's, McDonald's, your grocery store or other?

I've found that it happens--possibly ip shuffle--which is why I suggested rebooting router. I'm assuming other devices (your phone, in particular) are successfully connecting to this wifi.

Yeah other things connect just my tablet which is the one thing I want to connect, looks like I'm stuck as unable to reboot router and the companies help desk are no help, thanks anyway for your help.
