Isn't there a command line that you can run on a pc with your phone connected to it that will run a backup of the phone? Recall vaguely that that was a feature in ics. I am wanting to backup my app data and I had updated to v9 losing root and unable to use titanium.

adb backup

It'll actually make proper use of the backup feature that the rooting method uses to be sneaky.

There's not much to it at all, 98% of that post is explaining what various parts of the command you ultimately type do.
1. Install adb/fastboot, etc... (might as well just DL and install the Android SDK and check the option for the Google USB drivers), assuming you have a CPU.
2.
3. Once you've made your decision on how to perform the backup, simply type the command as you would like it; in my case, this is the command that I used:
Code:
adb backup -apk -shared -all -f C:\backup20111230.ab

3. Familiarizing yourself with using basic commands with adb and fastboot could save your phone, and potentially your sanity someday. Before you try to find an easier way to do it, explore this option. It will be a great learning experience.
Okiiii gonna do it

Hey folks,
Is there a way to back up my phone and have it on my computer harddrive in its entirety (Pictures, messages, settings) if its rooted?
I'm looking for a similar way to the blackberry back ups just incase something happens to my phone - lose/damage.
Thanks!
There may be an app but I don't use one.
Nandroid and copy internal and external sd contents to your computer.

This is solid advice, but it's my personal opinion that Kies is garbage. Just like BBDM.

I too dislike Kies but am looking for an alternate to BBDM as it did the job quite well.
So are there no alternatives to a "full" backup method like this for rooted phones?

You can make a complete bit for bit backup using a custom recovery such as CWM or TWRP. I use CWM and keep a backup on my PC and my extsd card.
Yeah, I just did a backup with TWRP last night. It's easy - you just need to install "Goo manager" from the Play Store and go to the menu and do "install recovery script".
Once you have that, you can boot into recovery and do a backup - once you have the backup, you can move/copy it to your computer HDD.

I have whattsapp installed on my HTC DHD. I now want to upgrade to a new phone but still use the same whatsapp account and number. The issue I have is that I am currently overseas and don't have access to the local number where the verification code will be sent. On the other hand I dont want to create a new account with the new number as this number is only temporary. So is there a way where I can verify my whattsapp account without having too get the sms? I don't have root access on my phone.
Sorry mate I don't think there's a solution for this...... Without your local number and verification sms... I don't think you can access your old account...

I read that you can do a backup and then transfer that data to the new phone. People suggested Titanium backup. The issue is that requires root access. I wanted to know what the backup does. If it just creates the APK to transfer or is it more.....
It will back up the data of the app too, and when it restores, the app will be in the same state it was when backed up. It won't ask you to verify a number again.

I used Ultimate backup
Will this also backup the app data like titanium backup?
Yes. There will be 3 backup options - APK only, Data only, APK + Data.

I don't think he can be if he's not rooted and needs a non root backup tool.
What's big deal in using temporary number on what's app?
To use any of those backup tools you need to root your device.
Or the only solution is, if your Sim is with some one just tell them to put that Sim and share that verification code SMS.

Ok I'm rooted and stock. I'm using Titanium backup to backup all my apps. But I want to restore all my apps on a new phone that is not rooted so cant use Titanium backup. What app can I use that does not need root to restore my backup?
I'm not aware of any app that can restore a backup made with titanium, other than titanium of course.
If you want to make a new backup there may be something in the play store that doesn't require root. Not sure of anything specific though.

Yeah I'm not trying to use the titanium backup. I just need an app that doesn't need root. I would use that to make a new backup and restore that backup on the new phone.

Either Rooted or Custom Recovery, are the only ways that I know of. Why not root the new phone? You could always "Unroot" it after you have restored everything.
The new phone is the HTC one. I'm reading way too many issues with it after people root and sometimes on stock. So if my phone has problems I don't want to spend time unrooting to send out back.

You have to be rooted and use Freegee to back up EFS unless your smart and know how to use ADB method ( I dont use it) I just use freegee. You cant find the EFS with an file explorer.

many years i used Galaxy S devices (1,2,3) and there no any problem with this. But now i just dont see EFS-folder, with rooted phone and RootExlorer and I've also heard that this model does not have EFS-folders.
I see only this files:
etc/efs.txt
etc/system/efs.txt
