[Q] adb reboot recovery command show red triangle - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I ran the Hack Ace on my HTC Desire HD from my Ubuntu 12.10 OS and I got to the point where the phone rebooted with the Android version downgraded to 2.3.3 and Sense 2.1.
In the Effen manual it then says to run the following command to check whether it worked
Code:
adb reboot recovery
but I get the red triangle.
Another section in the Effen manual headed "Flashing ROMs with ClockworkMod Recovery" says
Hold down vol- button, then press power to start, keep holding the vol- down button until Hboot menu shows up
After some file checks are done, use the vol- down button to scroll down to recovery
Click to collapse
But when the Hboot menu appears, I cannot scroll, and after a short pause the phone loads the PD98IMG.zip file and prompts me with
Do you want to start update?
Click to collapse
And it keeps doing this each time I try to access the Hboot menu.
I have searched the forums (I admit not all too thouroughly...) but did not find someone with a similar situation.
My phone works fine, but the whole point of the exercise was to flash the TrickDroid_v4.0.0 ROM eventually...
Any advice would be appreciated

Delete the PD98IMG.zip file from your sdcard. Let me advice you that you are just downgraded and not S-OFF and rooted if you just ran the kit once. Phones running OS 2.3.5 need to be run twice, the first to downgrade and the second to achive S-OFF, superCID and root....make sure that you check that you are S-OFF, otherwise you will get stuck. :good:

ran second hack
Thank you for your quick response.
I was under the impression that the script had run twice, but that was incorrect.
I ran the script a second time now, and the phone got set to S-OFF, rooted...

success

Really enjoying my rooted phone with its Trickdroid ROM, but I noticed today that I cannot film... :crying:
Anybody have some input on that?

[Q] "Main version is older"-Rom 2.15.118.1 -How to beat it ?

It is an brand Desire, I rooted, I loaded custom rom (worked fine), but the ROM manager screwed up something. I guess, it reflashed the bootloader (or recovery?), but failed.
Now the desire cannot boot. It stucked at the screen, with logo.
The bootloader says :
BRAVO PVT3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNW0101
RADIO-5.10.05.23
If I try to go to RECOVERY the screen goes white, and nothing happens.
If I put the PB99IMG.zip to SD card, the HBOOT finds it, but says, "Main version is older"
Is any way to reFlash the rom ?
What to do ?
have your tried installing a RUU then restarting all over again?
Yep, I tried, in USB_HBoot and USB_FastBoot mode (only available for me) but I`v got error (152 or 170).
Should I use some specific version RUU ?
U should read all NEwbie Threads more carefully again and again ! If u do this nothing can go wrong !U have to easily reflash the recovery! Just use Google!

From that I read, to make reflash the recovery You need a loaded sytem.
This is what I do not have

He has S-on. That will not work.
I think you need to try and find a rom which contains your HBOOT and try and flash that.

anyway, have you tried other PB99IMG.zips ?

As I wrote before: "I am not able to fully load the sytem"
For me it sounds like recovery did not successfully flash from unrevoked - but how can I unscrew this ?!?
Now, I launched successfully RUU under USB_Fastboot !
But I tried a number of stock images-roms (with GoldCard - my phone is brand one) and each time I get error :
140:BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR - on Desire screen : "Main Version is older"
My rom version: 2.15.118.1
What can be done ??? How to beat it ?
Sorry for the previous inappropriate answer.
So if you can still boot to hboot just install the drivers from here
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install
assumed you're running Windows and then root using:
http://unrevoked.com/#desire
After that you can install basically whatever you want (don't install stuff not matching your phone though) from the recovery
menu.
Good luck

You've been told what to do on Androidforums so I'd suggest following that
You mean this :
You have a bit of a problem then. You could try a branded update with a higher release number (e.g. Three's froyo), and then downgrade that.
But I can not find update with higher rel. than 2.15.118.1

I think the same happened to me when i tried to unlock my Desire. I juste had te redo it until it worked.
I made a little progress - I have access to recovery, then I press VolUp+Power there is op screen:
E:/Can`t open /cache/recovery/command
I tried fake-recovery but its impossible to flash-error - flash aborted.
Can I do something now and maybe and solve my problem?
So, I give up
I`m sending the phone to an authorized service.
We'll see - warranty success or not (
Thanx 2ever1 for time and help

Sorry mate! Didn't read your answer till now. Did you try other RUUs. There's a bunch of them in that URL: shipped roms (it is somewhere in the forum juste search it) for Bravo.
For me, to upgrade from the stock "Eclair", i used this one "RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.10.405.2_R_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed" and it worked just fine (before that i upgraded via stock zip to froyo but the unrevoked didn't work). Then i re used the unrevoked3 and it worked in third attempt.
I guess, there was a problem in the way the phone handels the transfer of data (USB dosen't act quick enough to send the right amount of data). So the first time when my phone bouted up, it couldn't get all data from the unrevoket script at the right speed so it continued booting with the old version of recovery prog without routing.
After it worked, i upgraded my radio to the "32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14" via recovery and zip (found somewhere in the forum) and it was ok.
At least give it another try. It's all yours.

[Q] Flashed Gingerbread and gone wrong

Hi all,
I have read docs until I am blue in the face and I cant get my phone going again. I fear I am going around in circles.
I had a defrost 2.2 installed and i thought I would put a latest radio on and try a gingerbread rom(Oxygen v2.0 RC5).
I only got the white HTC screen after this.
I fear I might have probs with s-off or something..
I cant get my clockwork recovery working now and I cant get the adb stuff working either.
I have tried unrevoked,recovery-windows.bat,and now alpharev - tinycore.
I am stuck with the trusty old red triangle. argghh
Thanks in advance

Thank you will do - Wasnt paying attention. Just frantically trying to get my phone back.
How do you install an RUU? I only have the red triangle with an exclamation mark if I start my recovery up.
I have tried 2 diff pcs now to no avail.
TIA
Did you S-Off? To check you can just hold VolumeDown when powering on the phone, if it says Alpharev ... S-OFF then you are fine. You can try to use this fastboot commander http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=823315 to flash back a custom recovery an then do everything from there (careful: don't flash anyting else as long as you are not sure what you are doing. Especially don't flash a hboot...).
If you don't have S-Off get this RUU http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_157522_signed.exe
Make sure the HTC Sync stuff is installed on your Windows PC (the drivers are needed). Power on the phone and connect it to the pc.
Run The RUU...exe and follow the instructions. If it does not work you need a goldcard:

I have flashed loads and loads of Roms and this is the first that caused me agg and as we are having a baby I was worried about not having my phone - doh.
It appears that all I needed to do was clear some data. I was sure I tried this but maybe I was panicking too much.
Still no RUU stuff was even realising the phone was there. So Goldcard it would have been.

HTC DESIRE unroot with RUU 2.3.3 failed

Hi guys.
I know there are several posts already opened about this, but I`ve tried all I read there and nothing worked.
I wanted to send my rooted Desire back for repairs(camera LED broken thanks to a Torch app), and wanted to unroot it before I do.
I`ve read on some posts that u can unroot the phone by running the official Gingerbread 2.3.3 RUU found on htcdev.com (the official RUU), so I downloaded the RUU, installed hTC Sync, installed the Desire`s USB drivers(the same one`s that are required when rooting with Revolutionary).
The RUU started installing, the phone rebooted into the HTC splash screen and the "update" of the RUU started going, both PC and phone showed the cursor of the installing process, and at about 90% the PC gave me an error (update error).
I`ve tried again and again to run the RUU but everytime, it failed. And now, my Desire just won`t boot. I`ve taken the battery out, put it back, turned it on, and the only thing that appers on the screen is the white HTC logo on a black background, with 4 icons in each corner of the screen(looks just like the icon that appears when u plug in the usb cable with USB debugging mode ON).
Volume-down+Power and BACK+Power don`t work anymore, even though I press them, the phone just simply ignores the keys and takes me back to the before mentioned hTC splash screen.
I know this is probably something I did wrong, but if there`s any one kind enough to help me out with this, I`d deeply appreciate it.
Thank you!

It doesn`t say anything.
This is what I do:
1. Take the battery out.
2. Put the battery back in place
3. Try turning phone on using: Volume-down+Power -> the phone doesn`t show anything, it simply takes me to the HTC logo(white HTC logo on black background. It does the same thing if I turn it on using BACK+Power)
If I try running the RUU again, the installer gives me the next message: Error[152]: image update error.
From what I`ve read, this is a radio error which can only be fixed by hTC. Could that be true?
Also, after the RUU gives me the above error, if I unplug the USB cable, the phone shows following:
*************
RUU
Radio_V2 - OK
Splash1 - OK
Recovery - OK
Splash2 - OK
Radio_cust - OK
Bootloader - Bypassed
Userdata - OK
System - Fail-PU
Boot - OK
Partition update fail!

oh you're still S-OFF?
You're automatically in fastboot when you turn on since your phone is like that so just turn it on, plug it in first flash this and then flash this, Then run the RUU again.
Yes, I`m still S-OFF.
How do I flash them if I can`t access recovery using Volume-down+Power or BACK+Power?
I`ve downloaded the first one, renamed it into PB99IMG.zip, put it on root of SD CARD, turned phone ON and it takes me to the same htc logo screen as before.
LE
Tried with Android Flasher, but it gets stuck when trying to flash the bravo_alphaspl.img that u`ve given me.
So basically, I can`t enter Clockworkmod, I can`t enter the bootloader menu by turning on phone usine Volume-down+Power / Back+Power, and the phone is stuck in the HTC logo, while still S-OFF-ed, also the 2.3.3 official RUU gives me the error at the end of the installing process.
Does anyone have any idea what I could do?

I tried to use an RUU to install 2.3, I have alpharev cm7r2 installed and I get stack on the same step as i_cs_u. I successfully flashed bravo_alphaspl.img with "fastboot boot bravo_alphaspl.img", but which partition do I flash bravo_downgrade.img to?

He probably figured out that he has to use the fastboot flash boot *name of img* command or Android Flasher on that screen with the 4 ! At the corner instead of renaming to PB99IMG and attempting to flash it on the phone.

Red triangle with exclamation mark

Hello,
I want to install ICS on my Desire HD. I've found that I have to root my device. For rooting I downloaded two different app's: Introducing Ace Advanced Hack Kit (03-10-2011) and SuperOneClickv2.3.1-ShortFuse. Of course there were tutorials how to use it. First, I wanted to try with hack-ace, but with no results (S-ON). I guess there were problems with downgrading radio. Phone still had been working after this operation, but still had no root. Then I tried SuperOneClick. There weren't problems with rooting, but there were no root as well. I tried hack-ace once again and I saw that radio had been downgraded - I guess - correctly. After that, phone can't boot operating system and stuck on red triangle with exclamation mark (attachement). Wiping data not solving this issue. I think there's something wrong with radio wersion. On Android system recovery menu, when I press + button and power, with menu there appears text "E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command.
On bootloader I have:
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.00.0027
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.03.02.23_M

I had pretty much the same problem ("E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command") and I was going in boot-loops hoping the next time it will work...
What I was doing wrong though is not noticing the progress bar in the top-right corner of the white bootloader screen. As everyone using this will have the same hardware, I think the "effen manual" could do with the screenshots as arrows pointing this out. It looked like that step had failed because of the "image not found" errors, it's not so obvious that the last message about the .zip file has no "error message" after it showing that all is well. This really got me stumped and I rebooted/pulled battery several times. I even thought of giving up on rooting my DHD. So for anyone who has just upgraded to the DHD and is doing the rooting from Linux... it does work!
Before this step, I was also stumped by a slightly dodgy vol+ button which prevented me even getting to the blue system recovery menu from the "red triangle" screen. Some moderate force on the rocker was needed. As an aside, I think the DHD suffers from poor volume rocker switch design.
Well thanks to attn1 and the other talented people behind this. It's great that it's all automated to this level. Must admit that I've been spoiled as the Desire root is ridiculously simple by comparison thanks to unrevoked! I kinda assumed the DHD would be just as simple.
I'll be donating to the EFF by way of thanks.

An unlocked bootloader with S-On still permits flashing of custom ROMs. Is your recovery updated? If not, do that.

The guide in post #7 of the guide in my signature is pretty clear. Read that. What is important to know is whether your phone is S-On bootloader unlocked or S-Off. Since you didn't hang on the boot splash when you flashed ARHD, I'm guessing S-Off. But just to be safe: to find this information, reboot while holding power and volume-down. That is your bootloader, known as hboot. What does it say? Finally, my hunch is that you need to update your recovery. The guide has instructions for that, but basically, download the image to your computer and flash it from fastboot.
Oh, and you may need to install your drivers on your computer. Install HTC Sync from the HTC website.

The guide has instructions for that, but basically, download the image to your computer and flash it from fastboot.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1824379. But if power and volume-down (you're using down, not up, right?) boot into CWM, sounds like a problem with your volume buttons.

When you're tired, it's best to get some sleep. Most mistakes happen when sleepy and tired (been there!) so I'd suggest a little shut-eye and continue then
Sounds to me like the problem will get solved pretty soon, just read the guides and don't rush things. If unsure, read the guide (for what-ever you are doing) a second or a third time and don't try doing many things at the same time (ie.don't try updating your radio, rom, & recovery all at the same time ).
Pretty much anything can be fixed as long as you got recovery working so don't stress too much. Best of luck and hope you get your phone working soon :good:
Still havn´t found a solution for my problem, but i think i´m on to something....
I think the problem with my phone is the boot.img.... i can´t flash it correctly...
Dont know what program to use or what file to download.... i tried openning a command list but i and type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" as i´ve seen on other posts but i always get "this is not known as an internal or external command, etc...."
What can i doooooooooooooo?!!!! going crazy with this
Hey buddy, stay calm haha. I had the exact same problem. The problem is that although you tried to flash it, you nee to have the boot.img and some files including fastboot.exe. All of the files you need and how to flash the rom are in a guide by glevitan. You can just google it.

already did but it wont recognize the command
Then your drivers aren't working. Uninstall and reinstall with the phone unplugged.
