[Q] Flashed Gingerbread and gone wrong - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I have read docs until I am blue in the face and I cant get my phone going again. I fear I am going around in circles.
I had a defrost 2.2 installed and i thought I would put a latest radio on and try a gingerbread rom(Oxygen v2.0 RC5).
I only got the white HTC screen after this.
I fear I might have probs with s-off or something..
I cant get my clockwork recovery working now and I cant get the adb stuff working either.
I have tried unrevoked,recovery-windows.bat,and now alpharev - tinycore.
I am stuck with the trusty old red triangle. argghh
Thanks in advance
Dred

If you are S-Off -> fastboot flash a recovery
If not -> get a RUU for your device
In any case: search and post in Q&A

Thank you will do - Wasnt paying attention. Just frantically trying to get my phone back.

How do you install an RUU? I only have the red triangle with an exclamation mark if I start my recovery up.
I have tried 2 diff pcs now to no avail.
TIA

Did you S-Off? To check you can just hold VolumeDown when powering on the phone, if it says Alpharev ... S-OFF then you are fine. You can try to use this fastboot commander http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=823315 to flash back a custom recovery an then do everything from there (careful: don't flash anyting else as long as you are not sure what you are doing. Especially don't flash a hboot...).
If you don't have S-Off get this RUU http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_157522_signed.exe
Make sure the HTC Sync stuff is installed on your Windows PC (the drivers are needed). Power on the phone and connect it to the pc.
Run The RUU...exe and follow the instructions. If it does not work you need a goldcard:

I have flashed loads and loads of Roms and this is the first that caused me agg and as we are having a baby I was worried about not having my phone - doh.
It appears that all I needed to do was clear some data. I was sure I tried this but maybe I was panicking too much.
Still no RUU stuff was even realising the phone was there. So Goldcard it would have been.
Thanks for all your help

[Q] "Main version is older"-Rom 2.15.118.1 -How to beat it ?

It is an brand Desire, I rooted, I loaded custom rom (worked fine), but the ROM manager screwed up something. I guess, it reflashed the bootloader (or recovery?), but failed.
Now the desire cannot boot. It stucked at the screen, with logo.
The bootloader says :
BRAVO PVT3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNW0101
RADIO-5.10.05.23
If I try to go to RECOVERY the screen goes white, and nothing happens.
If I put the PB99IMG.zip to SD card, the HBOOT finds it, but says, "Main version is older"
Is any way to reFlash the rom ?
What to do ?
have your tried installing a RUU then restarting all over again?
Yep, I tried, in USB_HBoot and USB_FastBoot mode (only available for me) but I`v got error (152 or 170).
Should I use some specific version RUU ?
U should read all NEwbie Threads more carefully again and again ! If u do this nothing can go wrong !U have to easily reflash the recovery! Just use Google!

He has S-on. That will not work.
I think you need to try and find a rom which contains your HBOOT and try and flash that.

As I wrote before: "I am not able to fully load the sytem"
For me it sounds like recovery did not successfully flash from unrevoked - but how can I unscrew this ?!?
Now, I launched successfully RUU under USB_Fastboot !
But I tried a number of stock images-roms (with GoldCard - my phone is brand one) and each time I get error :
140:BOOTLOADER VERSION ERROR - on Desire screen : "Main Version is older"
My rom version: 2.15.118.1
What can be done ??? How to beat it ?
Sorry for the previous inappropriate answer.
So if you can still boot to hboot just install the drivers from here
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install
assumed you're running Windows and then root using:
http://unrevoked.com/#desire
After that you can install basically whatever you want (don't install stuff not matching your phone though) from the recovery
menu.
Good luck

You've been told what to do on Androidforums so I'd suggest following that
You mean this :
You have a bit of a problem then. You could try a branded update with a higher release number (e.g. Three's froyo), and then downgrade that.
But I can not find update with higher rel. than 2.15.118.1

I think the same happened to me when i tried to unlock my Desire. I juste had te redo it until it worked.
I made a little progress - I have access to recovery, then I press VolUp+Power there is op screen:
E:/Can`t open /cache/recovery/command
I tried fake-recovery but its impossible to flash-error - flash aborted.
Can I do something now and maybe and solve my problem?
So, I give up
I`m sending the phone to an authorized service.
We'll see - warranty success or not (
Thanx 2ever1 for time and help
Give it another try, may be...
Sorry mate! Didn't read your answer till now. Did you try other RUUs. There's a bunch of them in that URL: shipped roms (it is somewhere in the forum juste search it) for Bravo.
For me, to upgrade from the stock "Eclair", i used this one "RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.10.405.2_R_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed" and it worked just fine (before that i upgraded via stock zip to froyo but the unrevoked didn't work). Then i re used the unrevoked3 and it worked in third attempt.
I guess, there was a problem in the way the phone handels the transfer of data (USB dosen't act quick enough to send the right amount of data). So the first time when my phone bouted up, it couldn't get all data from the unrevoket script at the right speed so it continued booting with the old version of recovery prog without routing.
After it worked, i upgraded my radio to the "32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14" via recovery and zip (found somewhere in the forum) and it was ok.
At least give it another try. It's all yours.

[Q] Help needed - Cant boot after OTA update

Hi all
I have a Desire on Virgin media and today downloaded and installed the OTA Froyo update.
However,
When I tried installing the update it failed with a signature verification message, so I toggled signature verification if recovery menu and it installed ok.
Now though, the phone gets to the white screen with HTC logo and reboots and vibrates constantly.
When I try and enter recovery mode I just get a red exclamation mark inside a triangle.
My question is obviously, how do I fix it.
I am aslo interested in trying the MIUI rom so I'm wondering if this is a good time to give it a go as it seems the Virgin Media stock ROM doesn't want to play ball anyway.
I have done a forum search but cant figure out my next step to put things right.
Info:
I had previously rooted the phone when running 2.1 using revoked.
I have got android-sdk_r07 windows installed on my pc.
UPDATE: My phone shows up in ddms.bat (as offline) - not sure if that helps or not!
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
Matt
Find and download the virgin media ruu and try again. This will unroot and wipe your phone it should work.

I have downloaded what I assume to be the the Virgin Media ruu from here: http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2907 although I have no idea how to get it onto my phone.
If you could help with some instructions I'd be grateful.

Download this:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_128941_signed.exe
Connect your phone to your PC in FASTBOOT (turn the phone on whilst holding the back button) - once it says FASTBOOT USB run the file. It may not work, though, as you're already on the OTA but you can try. Failing that you'd need to do a hard reset through HBOOT (turn the phone on whilst holding volume down)

Thanks for your help EddyOS. Tried the RUU but it failed, saying it is the wrong rom.
When I boot into HBOOT I cannot see an option to Hard reset.
Any ideas?
Thanks again..
It might be under FASTBOOT as well - listed as 'Clear Data'
When it said wrong ROM it's probably due to you being on a new one now...
I found a 'clear storage' option under HBOOT and ran that then tried the rom again but same thing happens - error message telling me to get the appropriate rom.
Is there another rom I can use instead of the Virgin Mobile one?
Can anyone help?
Only thing you can do is debrand or downgrade and try the Virgin RUU again
Thans EddyOS.
Do I need to create a goldcard to do this and can I run the process without having to boot up the phone and put it into dubug mode?
Debrand will need a gold card, so you might be in trouble there if you can't boot up. Downgrade also needs one I think...here's the downgrade thread:

This is no good to me as I cannot boot therefore cannot create a goldcard.
Then there's no way to do it, you'd need to send it in for repair

[Q] Bricked my DHD, please help :(

Let me just start off by saying poop.
I've been reading up on these forums quite a lot, equipping myself with enough knowledge to get going on using this phone to its potential.
After the anticipation of getting my DHD, I went about rooting it. I used this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841076.
Everything went fine without much trouble. I completed all the steps in rooting it and gaing SU access. Also installed the Clockwork Recovery mod without a hiccup. I went on to install the Android Revolution ROM and going through the guide I used a tool called: 'Easy Wipe Upgrade.'
After installing this zip, the phone reboot and it just refuses to budge. Stuck on the HTC splash screen.
I've held down the bottom volume button with power and it gets me into HBOOT. I've tried a variety of option such as factory resets and nothing seems to be working.
My luck and phones. Just have a very expensive brick now sitting on my desk. Ah
I'd appreciate any help I can get please. Thanks.
I managed to resolve it!
Just FYI. Mounted the USB (Which was hidden fairly deeply) I guess you don't look when you panic? I then dropped on the ROM and installed it and boot up took a while but voila, it worked!
Well done, I would go mental if I bricked my phone. That's why I am still just reading up rather than trying things.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
in the exact same situation as you where Could you go into abit more detail how you resolved this? currently have no phone cheers
whats wrong with your phone mate
Just so you know, as long as you have access to the bootloader (can be stock bootloader with S-ON, doesn't matter), 99% of the time you can 'unbrick' your phone by installing a stock RUU (PD98IMG.zip method) which returns your phone to complete stock.
If you install the wrong RUU while ENG HBOOT S-OFF then you can potentially fudge up your phone for good (unless you have Radio S-OFF, then you are fine - just install the correct RUU).
So don't worry, because there is nearly always a way to go back to how your phone was before you started hacking it.

You are not supposed to rename the RUU file, rather you run the RUU file and then afterwards locate the ROM.zip file located in your temp folder. This ROM.zip file is meant to be renamed PD98IMG.zip, NOT the RUU file.
ok that was stupid of me.. ok will try to give it a go..
sorry if this sounds stupid to you again.. but, i just wana be sure.. its my first smartphone..
anyway, i run the ruu file on my pc, yeah? so then when i run it, it asks me to connect my dhd using the usb cable.. so i did... but it couldnt detect my phone.. thus, it couldnt continue it's setup.. ;-( thank you for helping out..
Make sure you install HTC Sync, it should also install all the DHD USB drivers needed.
hey, do you have any step by step guide on doing this? im afraid il do something wrong again and just risk messing up the phone even more..
i have htc sync and the htc drivers on my laptop but when i connect the usb plug to my phone and try to run the ruu.. it still gives me the prompt of no connection from the pc and android phone.. :-| what am i doing wrong? sorry...
thanks in advance for the any help!
i managed to get to the update part.. but now it prompts a 131 error message.. :-( help?

HTC DESIRE unroot with RUU 2.3.3 failed

Hi guys.
I know there are several posts already opened about this, but I`ve tried all I read there and nothing worked.
I wanted to send my rooted Desire back for repairs(camera LED broken thanks to a Torch app), and wanted to unroot it before I do.
I`ve read on some posts that u can unroot the phone by running the official Gingerbread 2.3.3 RUU found on htcdev.com (the official RUU), so I downloaded the RUU, installed hTC Sync, installed the Desire`s USB drivers(the same one`s that are required when rooting with Revolutionary).
The RUU started installing, the phone rebooted into the HTC splash screen and the "update" of the RUU started going, both PC and phone showed the cursor of the installing process, and at about 90% the PC gave me an error (update error).
I`ve tried again and again to run the RUU but everytime, it failed. And now, my Desire just won`t boot. I`ve taken the battery out, put it back, turned it on, and the only thing that appers on the screen is the white HTC logo on a black background, with 4 icons in each corner of the screen(looks just like the icon that appears when u plug in the usb cable with USB debugging mode ON).
Volume-down+Power and BACK+Power don`t work anymore, even though I press them, the phone just simply ignores the keys and takes me back to the before mentioned hTC splash screen.
I know this is probably something I did wrong, but if there`s any one kind enough to help me out with this, I`d deeply appreciate it.
Thank you!

It doesn`t say anything.
This is what I do:
1. Take the battery out.
2. Put the battery back in place
3. Try turning phone on using: Volume-down+Power -> the phone doesn`t show anything, it simply takes me to the HTC logo(white HTC logo on black background. It does the same thing if I turn it on using BACK+Power)
If I try running the RUU again, the installer gives me the next message: Error[152]: image update error.
From what I`ve read, this is a radio error which can only be fixed by hTC. Could that be true?
Also, after the RUU gives me the above error, if I unplug the USB cable, the phone shows following:
*************
RUU
Radio_V2 - OK
Splash1 - OK
Recovery - OK
Splash2 - OK
Radio_cust - OK
Bootloader - Bypassed
Userdata - OK
System - Fail-PU

oh you're still S-OFF?
You're automatically in fastboot when you turn on since your phone is like that so just turn it on, plug it in first flash this and then flash this, Then run the RUU again.
Yes, I`m still S-OFF.
How do I flash them if I can`t access recovery using Volume-down+Power or BACK+Power?
I`ve downloaded the first one, renamed it into PB99IMG.zip, put it on root of SD CARD, turned phone ON and it takes me to the same htc logo screen as before.
LE
Tried with Android Flasher, but it gets stuck when trying to flash the bravo_alphaspl.img that u`ve given me.
So basically, I can`t enter Clockworkmod, I can`t enter the bootloader menu by turning on phone usine Volume-down+Power / Back+Power, and the phone is stuck in the HTC logo, while still S-OFF-ed, also the 2.3.3 official RUU gives me the error at the end of the installing process.
Does anyone have any idea what I could do?

He probably figured out that he has to use the fastboot flash boot *name of img* command or Android Flasher on that screen with the 4 ! At the corner instead of renaming to PB99IMG and attempting to flash it on the phone.

/!\ in 4 corners means its pretty much ruu mode. So ul need to flash a ruu.
Try this first, Because ur s-off pull the battery out and put back in then press and hold back button then press and hold power button (so both same time) and see what comes up. Either it will boot into fastboot normaly, or boot into fastboot but with ruu in pink or it will just display the /!\ again.
Ps: jordyNL, its not radio brick, just ruu mode.

What is your aim, I assume you still want a custom ROM?
So you can't boot into bootloader (Volume down + power) or fastboot (Back + power) at all? If you can get to either of these you can flash a new recovery through fastboot, then full wipe and install a ROM like before.
Otherwise I think you will need to flash RUU as advised, find the 2.3.3. GB RUU, don't be scared of flashing it. Yes if you do it correctly you will make it S-ON...but you can always S-OFF again, just like you got it S-OFF in the first place
i want any ROM that makes it work, and i tried both things " back + power" & "volume down+ power" but it still boots with 4 triangles, and also i don't want to make it S-ON because i don't know how to make it S-OFF again cuz it can't boot in fastboot or recovery ! that's the problem !

Again, don't worry about that. Once you flash the RUU everything will be reset as normal, that's the whole point.
You have two options:
- Do nothing, try all button combinations and keep seeing those 4 triangles...
- Flash the RUU to get it booting. It's the first step in making anything work. I assure you that you can S-OFF once again...
Your choice
okay but how S-OFF again ? and what RUU should i choose ??
Like posted above, use the 2.3gb upgrade. Then to s-off after that use revolutionary. It will s-off ur phone in 2 mins, its really simple.
but the problem in revolutionary is that always when i run it it says "waiting for device" and never detects my device i don't know why !!! and about 2.3GB ruu can u send me the link ?? and should i look for the radio version for every RUU i try to use ?? i wish you answer all this questions plz !! i'm sorry for all that
I'm on phone right now, can't find links as easy, but I promise if you use the internet you'll find what you're looking for...applies to most things actually
As for revolutionary, likely you didn't follow a guide and didn't install the correct hboot drivers? Again find the drivers and a (video) guide by searching.

if u click the troubleshooting guide by bortak in my sig then ul find 2.3gb ruu there, in resources. and like eddie said u prob dont have the drivers installed, thats why u get the "waiting for device"
i tried to boot it via the command "fastboot oem boot", it boots with white screen and green HTC logo, and vibrates 7 times and then returns to the black triangles screen ! what does it mean ??
also i want to know more about fasboot commands and how to use them, and if can i S-OFF it again with fastboot commands if the RUU doesn't work ! because revolutionary still can't find my phone and the drivers are installed correctly !

Vibrates 7 times usually means hardware problem. U can only s-off if the phone is working/booting. Where did u send it for repair? Coz they obviously didnt fix it

The 7 vibrations may indicate hardware failure unfortunately.
However one step at a time...Have you looked the troubleshooting guide?
Have you actually tried running the RUU yet?
You need to get the phone booting properly first. Revolutionary runs when the phone is booted into the OS I believe, not from bootloader.
Which drivers did you install? These are not the same ones when you install htc sync.
You should learn fastboot anyway, again find a guide. You can't s-off the desire with fastboot though.
i sent it to repair in my country ! algeria, it was on bad situation " doesn't boot at all nor charge, like dead phone" so he worked on it i think he does ORT jtag to boot it again, but still on 4 triangles !! so it's sure hardware problem ?? can't be fixed without changing a motherboard ?!

After you get it booting, then you will need to find and install the modified hboot drivers (not normal android usb drivers). Search for a specific revolutionary guide to explain it. The link is also on the revolutionary faq page
if i can boot it it means the problem is solved !! so about the RUU i tried several times before getting it S-OFF !! so it was S-ON and i tried a lot of RUU's and always problem with RADIO it can't flash it !!
