[Q] SD Card not mounting (SOLVED) - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Had the e4gt for about 4 months now and all of the sudden, my 32gb SD (or any SD) will show up on my external mount. Posting on here to get some ideas of what to try hoping that its not a hardware issue.
What I've done so far:
- I've formatted the card several times on my phone and on my laptop.
-Odin'd back to stock and rerooted on a different rom.
-Tried different SD cards
Still, no luck.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Edit: Solved easily with the suggestions below. Ribbon cable wasn't loose, but it didn't have a good connection apparently. Disconnected and reconnected the end of the ribbon cable for the SD cradle that plugs into the main board. Took a couple of tries but my SD card is available once again.

Sounds like you have a bad slot. It is an easy fix. You can get a new cradle online. I would try to see if the flex cable came loose though.

I agree. Lucky for you, SGS2s are extremely easy to disassemble. Check eBay for replacement SD slots. They are dirt cheap.

Re: [Q] SD Card not mounting
Sounds like this might be a semi-common problem. Thanks guys. Will check back when I figure it out.

Re: [Q] SD Card not mounting
Issue solved. Took the phone apart and fiddled with the SD cradle connector on the main board. Took a couple of tries but it worked. Thanks for the help people.

micro usb card adaptor for the tab

Is there a Micro USB adaptor or a way of getting the tab to read my SD card?
buy that [Official Samsung USB + SD card Adapter]
http://www.expansys.com/samsung-con...-10-1-30-pin-to-usb-30-pin-to-sd-slot-219891/
And how will I get this for usa?
Get the Samsung USB Connector from Best Buy, go to their website and search for SKU 2837365. The price is $19.99 and it allows you to use just about any Micro SD USB reader. It also works with USB sticks, mice and keyboards! I got 2 of them from my local BB. Picture attached.
The best Micro USB card reader is one that I got from Micro Center, it's made by SIIG and is super tiny! It's just about the same size as the Micro SD card itself, you just can't get any smaller and it's only $5.99. Picture attached and here is a link to purchase:
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0326524
Here's a picture showing the USB connector attached to my Tab. You can see in the notification area that it recognizes the USB device attached, and you click to safely unmount when your done. When you plug in the adapter with a storage device it automatically launches the file manager and goes right to the drive. It supports copy/cut/paste from/to internal memory and the attached storage.
Thanks so much for your help I happen to have a 10 dollar gift card for bb and microcenter is right around the corner not to mention there's not many of them out there
Check out the reviews of that micro usb card reader. Many of the reviews on amazon say it doesn't last very long...
Try this one:

Both look interesting. Might try the amazon one first. Just picked up the USB adapter at BB.
They are just getting their GTab display setup and didn't have any on the shelf, so might have to ask around. Had a really helpful guy looking for me and he went all over the store and in the back before locating them in a cupboard in the phone area.
Thanks for the info.

I had that one. For some reason, it fit too snugly in the Samsung adapter, and the plastic end broke off when I tried to pull it out. Trashed the MicroSD card as well.

Truth. It's a pain taking out a regular usb drive. I can't imagine how much harder it is if the thing was micro.
I forgot I have a $5 reward cert for BB, I may have to get the usb adapter from them with it before it expires. I have a very small microsd usb card reader but problem is that it kinda gets warm when I have it plugged into a computer/usb hub. It is like the one below except it is orange.

I would rather use a usb thumb drive or sd card since they are much cheaper for larger GB amounts, problem is finding one that is small. I wonder if any thumb drives are setup to be used at a right angle?
ariel123, You need a Micro SD card reader, this thread has links to 2 of them, one from Micro Center and one from Amazon.

It's a black TPU case that I got off of eBay. Fits the Tab great and feels really nice.

Aargh, why didn't I pick one of those usb connectors at BB when I was in the USA (where I bought my tab).

[Q] Micro sd card stuck in sim card slot

I'm feeling kinda stupid i was removing my micro sd card and sim card first thing this morning and in my haste i managed to put the micro sd card in the sim slot and now its stuck.
I would like to avoid taking it apart if possible so i dont void the warranty the only other option i can think of is to try and fish it out with something any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Your not the first person on here to do it Try tweezers

Try using a pin or needle, work each side until it loosens, working upside down so it'll just drop when loose.
Btw... Doh!
Thanks for the replies I managed to get the micro sd card out with a needle I will definitely be more careful in future those slots are a little bit close for comfort.
And just for anyone else reading this, always remember to turn a device off before fiddling with slots & ports.
I got a nice shock off my wife's Galaxy S when i was fiddling with her faulty USB slot with a metal pin!

SD card reader?

Hey guys, is there an external card reader that would plug into the micro USB port on the captivate? I've been searching for a while but all I can find is micro SD to SD card adapters when I would like to import photos from a camera right into the phone
It would be a shame to have to just use micro SD cards to use the internal slot. Thanks!

I dont know of one that exists. But if youre trying to import your pictures you are going to be better off just inserting the micro sd into your phone and then copying all the image files to the phone. Its essentially the same process you would do if you had an external SD card reader except you actually have to put the SD card in the phone.
here u go.

I'm not sure that there is such a beast that would plug into the microUSB, and if there was, I'm not certain that the Captivate has the functionality/interface to read and copy from the microUSB Slot. I'm pretty sure you need the computer as a go-between if the microSD isn't in the phone itself.
I think your best bet is directly putting the microSD from the Camera into the Cappy or you'll have to upload them to the computer first, then to the phone. Sorry
I've always wanted something like that, its a great idea but such a thing doesn't exist. Closest thing would be to get the flash drive adapter with the microSD slot built in.

Yeah, that's not really possible. For one thing it's a jack, not a plug. For another, it would need to power the device attached to it while still being able to be powered from the same port for charging. For another, it would need to be able to configure as a device or a host which would really be hard. And another, it would need to have drivers for SD readers, FAT, NTFS, and all kinds of other things.
this would probably be you best bet

Wow. I stand corrected. That's a really flexible controller chip. They should have shown a backup battery being used as well in the pics too.
a kernel with USB HOST mode,
a USB OTG cable
a USB to micro USB cable
a USB card reader
a SD to microSD adapter.
and you can do exactly what you want....
but you will need a back pack to carry all your cables and adapters.
One step could be saved with this

But nobody sells it, and who wants to splice USB cables?

This part is odd:
- With own browser and ES browser
- File system format: FAT32 (does not support NTFS)
in general for any phone or tablet
an external hardrive like 1 or 1.5TB with USB will be a dream, u can power the drive with extra USB. But what about powering device with the screen? I think it will run out of juice much faster in this kind of setup. Your thoughts?
From the research I have done, it requires an org cable, an USB y-cable for hooking up an external power, and a from with org support. The two cables can be found on Amazon for 2-5$. You could use any USB charger or for portability... get one of the battery packs with USB output. Portable, but it is a lot to carry around.
You can also use a powered USB hub in place of the y cable.

OTG TF card reader?

Been trawling eBay the last few days for a TF card reader you plug directly into the S3s micro USB port, and I'm not talking about using an OTG cable and a normal card reader, I want something with micro USB plug on one side and TF slot on the other similar to what the Galaxy Tab has, and I'm sure it must exist somewhere so someone point me in the direction.
Something like this?

Something like that... But just a Micro SD reader so it's small as possible.

Not that it's a big deal, but why not just use the internal port?
I know you didn't want an OTG cable but what about an OTC Adapater (non cable version) with an very small micro sd reader? The SD reader below is what I use. I have 2 actually. One is about 2 years old, the other 1 year old. One goes in my car stereos USB port (had a spare 32Gb sd card so it made sense to use it for music) and is very small hanging out the front.
You could use this:
1 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Right-Angle...006572?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item27ccd180ac
or
2 - http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Micro-B...505734?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item3a7bb42146
paired with
3 - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002HGFKR8/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01
Well just think about it... With a tiny card reader stuck on the bottom you can treble the memory and still hold the phone and use it normally and store stuff like Emulator Roms and HD videos on which you can't really do with wires hanging out the bottom, and I'm running low on my 64gb card so this just gives me the best of all worlds.
And anyway the guy who got me thinking about it to begin with managed to find the place that sells exactly what I'm looking for.

Replacing the MicroUSB Port / SD Card slot

As I'm sure has happened to others, the microusb port on my tablet has gotten a bit loose so that with most cables charging is inconsistent at best. I've tried two replacement microUSB port parts from ebay, and with both of them the microusb port works but the microSD card slot does not (they are attached, so a replacement part contains both). Any ideas why that might be? Has anyone successfully replaced their microUSB port and kept the SD card slot working?
I have replaced mine with an ebay part without a problem. Take a look at the ifixit tutorials to make sure you did everything right:
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Galaxy+Tab+S+10.5+Charge+port+Replacement/50684
It seems from the comments up there, some people have the same problem.

Do you happen to know which part you bought that worked for you? I've now gone through three replacements and the microSD card slots dont work with any of them.
