New file sharing site - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

"Kim Dotcom's Mega officially launches tomorrow, but we're already in. From the membership plans we showed you this morning, the service might look like it's just another online storage locker like Dropbox or Google Drive. But it's way more than that. Mega is a weapon aimed straight at copyright rights holders. It's maybe the most private, invincible file-sharing service of all time."

thanks

he hasn't beat the charges yet... still waiting for the extradition **** to go through. i don't think he's going to serve jail time or anything since all of the illegal searches and wiretaps and whatnot in the case. they'll be lucky if he even gets into a courtroom at this point

Not sure I want to store my files on a site owned by someone going to court for illegal activities. I'll stick to a more secure place for now like my SD cards or Google/dropbox

I signed up for an account, but I think I'll stick with dropbox for now too. Wait to see the future.

the only reason dropbox and google haven't been busted is that they're too large and have too many connections to the market. think about it, mega got busted for "hosting" the illegal files of their users. you don't think that dropbox hosts illegal files? mine does right now. so that means that dropbox can get busted for hosting it. same with google, search for "argo torrent" and it will find you illegal files. so google searches for illegal files and brings them to the user, and dropbox hosts them so that they can be shared via public link afterwards.

Haha, yea... I agree. Is there any benefit over Mega than drive or dropbox? I don't store anything too highly illegal that needs super security.

The Free Android Garage Sale:

I'm asking this because I thought it might be kinda fun:
What's one (app/game/file/tweak/inverted version of something/whatever) that you have tucked away in a dropbox folder, or on an old sdcard/device that you think most XDA users wouldn't have, or wouldn't even know about?
(That you'd be willing to share, of course)
For example, when cleaning up my dropbox yesterday, I came across this old thing:
http://db.tt/1j1em9yL
edit: link fixed.
, which is actually really nice...
(It's a beta of a megavideo viewer app that was free on the market for exactly 2 days before Google yanked it for whatever reason:
You just drop a megavideo link into the box, and it plays the vid without messing with all the annoying popups/multiple windows that usually arise when trying to do so through a browser. That app ^ used in combination with a site like quicksilverscreen.com or icefilms can be invaluable when trying to stream new movies and such....)
But I digress...
What's the one old 'somethin-somethin' that y'all have just lying around?
edit:
Protip: just go to your Dropbox and search for 'apk':
The first time I tried this, I realized that I have 335 apps just chillin up there: time to seriously clean it up.

Yea.. I think they have a paid app that allows unltd skips and no ads.. So if your posting something modded that allows those features then it becomes a whole different ball game when Pandora isnt making any money off of it. Just my opinion if I have an awesome app im willing to support the devs and pay for it.. Then again if it wasnt for Warez I probaby wouldnt have purchased the apks I have if I didnt test them out first
MOD EDIT: offering warez
the way i read it, was that when shazam updated, all people who had the unlimited were able to keep it even after updating. maybe im wrong, but this would totally make it un-warez. warez based on time of download is bogus...

i mean i was able to store it for a few personal files too,but never need a premium service for that

So what do you think? Are the options for hosting roms getting less? Should i/we start throwing out torrent mirrors? I'm up for it. I'm not fast but I'm willing to lend a hand. I'm sure jerdog would have to be informed of this and see if its kosher with him.
Traffic wise, I'm sure there wouldn't be tens of thousands of people leeching off e4gt roms/kernels/modems/themes/etc.
Http might eventually dry up, ftp can create security issues, hosting costs money. I doubt you could host it on sourceforge.

The trick is, they'll send you the money. It'll say pending, and it MIGHT even clear.
As soon as you send the item and give them a tracking number, they'll do a "charge back" on the account and the money will disappear from your account. And PayPal's service is so ****ty. They'll always side with the buyer. (Probably BC that's the only way they can get a cut out of it.)

those permissions look normal for those specific apps but I can see why a scan would see them as potential threats

Ya but the music is not legal, it's from the black market.
The app is in the market and acts as a middle man.

Yeah who cares what app it is. An app in the market can bypass any checks they have to catch malware. So having a protection like this is worth having.
Accidental thanks

education works hand in hand with antivirus. the service these apps provide is enough to arouse suspicions.

There are many apps in the market that require questionable permissions is my point. Regardless of what they are used for.
The permissions have to be agreed upon prior to downloading the app. All one has to do is pay attention when downloading. All the antivirus software is doing is comparing a set list of probable culprits of abuse of permissions and displaying those apps.
Sorry...I was merely pointing out these are not new "threats" ...the spam loaded app issue has been around for a while now. Games, wallpaper apps, etc. Just pay attention to what you are doing and downloading. It is extremely rare to come across an app that does not clearly list all of the permissions prior to downloading.
I myself use addons detector...it does not mislabel itself as "antivirus software" ...it simply looks for possible issues, points them out and gives you a choice on what to do.
I am not going to rip someone apart based on the app and what it is used for. It isn't worth the time.
