Hey I've been rooted for about 5 months now but never really got into it deeply. I'm in need of some help, could be easy but I'm stumped. Basically I was running a custom rom which was an AOKP JB rom released back in early September. It flashed no problem and what not, and has worked flawlessly up until today when I tried to flash to a new AOKP JB rom released.
I had done nandroid backups prior to attempting. So I downloaded the rom via AOKP OTA updates and then put it on my external sd card, and updated my cwm recovery to the most recent version. I then proceeded to cwm recovery and wiped data/factory reset, wiped the cache, and wiped the dalvik cache. I believe the first time around I forgot to format system and proceeded straight to flash the rom via external sd card, but it kept saying error can't external sd card every time attempting to flash the rom. I then tried to do it from internal sd card because it was located in AOKP OTA folder and it started flashing the rom but then an error occured very early on. Now since I have restored from my nandroid backup I'm now unable to access my external sd card, my phone just won't locate it.
Basically I need help figuring out what happened and how I can get my phone to recognize my micro sd card and how to properly go about flashing this rom.
Any help is appreciated thanks in advance.
If it helps I'm with Rogers. Also is it alright that I went back to a stock rom, can I update the stock rom too without any issues?
Anyone please?

So are you currently back to stock? If so, what version of stock?
Yes I'm back to stock, which was from a nandroid backup. Running 4.0.4 tried doing software update but it failed. Am I going to have to go through odin and flash stock rom to unroot and then root again? Cause my micro sd is going insane keeps getting a errors....

Have you tried changing recoveries and seeing if you have more luck with TWRP?
No I haven't tried it, you think it would make a difference? I have just got the new cwm prior to these issues.

I would be sure to have a good, clean download of the ROM you want to install on your internal SD as well as a NANDROID somewhere for worst case. Then, install TWRP through the GooManager app from the play store. Once in the app, hit the menu button and select to install a custom recovery script. That should install the newest TWRP in place of CWM.
From there, enter recovery mode. It would be recommended to go the wipe menu and choose factory reset and then dalvik. FInally, install your ROM .zip and GAPPS. Hopefully that should work and install the ROM of your choosing.
If that is without success, flashing back to Stock via Odin may be your best choice.

Now what about my micro sd card? Isn't it best to put roms on external sd cards?

I personally have never flashed a custom ROM from anywhere other than my internal SD. I actually had root with numerous custom ROMs without ever using an external SD.
Alright so hopefully this sorts out my external sd card then.

Hey everyone, this is beyond me...I had root and it was going well, granite their were some small freezes every once and a while but that is normal I guess?, or should I say was expected? So I wanted to go to the new ICS darkside ROM by doing a clean install of everything. Now, i un-root and then do a factory/data reset and bring up my phone, then it says android.media.process has stopped and Web had stopped. Also now, it won't mount to USB storage and doesn't even recognize the SD card (also doesn't in CWM)...I am very frustrated. I have re tryed the process multiple times. I am using the Stock ICS rom and then a Stock root rom (back and forth as explained earlier) and liked it, but want the darkside rom, really need help! thanks!

If you are already rooted just go to the Darkside thread and download Darkside Super wipe, the ROM, The radio if you want but it should be installed already, and Darkside cache wipe...you dont need to unroot to flash the rom if your rooted...once you root you dont need to unroot unless you want to go completely stock...
Just flash Darkside Superwipe and then flash the ROM.

Flash through CWM? Honestly I can't access my sd card through CWM should I just expect that it will recognize the sd card after I perform these steps and I'm then on the new rom? Thanks!

If you're rooted and have CWM Recovery installed you should have the option to install zip from internal and external SD Card in CWM. If CWM isn't detecting your SD card you can redo the steps of rooting and installing through Odin or just put the zip file on your internal SD.
So I decided to update my JellyBro Rom to the next release, and thought it was a great idea to do a completely fresh install, so i formated the data/cache/system and internal SD...now I cant get into the external sd card anymore to reach my rom as the CWM is telling me "No files found"
How do I reach the external card?
Do I have to reflash through odin, if so can I flash a .zip ROM directly, or must I flash a stock "ODIN" ROM?
Thanks!

you should be able to push twrp on there (different recovery) and it will allow you to mount the storage and write to it.

and you could probably use the toolkit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746665 to push that recovery, should be quick and easy fix

The newest release of CWM 6.0.1.2 has install zip from external SD. If you're on that release, just throw it on your external SD from your computer (providing you have the adapter) and flash from there.
I did the something. Lost all backups. Used Odin for stock root and lost iemi

I just downloaded the Stock Bell Rom for odin...its flashing as we speak.
I guess I should install the newest CWM once im up and running again lol
Since I'm reinstalling from ODIN, do I need to reinstall recovery, or will it still be there?

If you're installing a stock ROM, you'll have to root and then install CWM (I did with ROM Manager after) as it over writes your custom recovery with stock again.

I Odined the stock rooted Bell ROM, on ROM Manager, it doesn't have my phone in the list of phones...do I have to flash it through odin?
Odin is a good option
Use Flash/NonTrip instructions. And flash 5.8.4.5 version of CWM. There is regular and touch friendly version. 5.8.4.5 has support for both sdcards.
I found CWM6 for our phones, but its an .img file. How do i go about flashing that?
id like to know as well. Us canadians cant use Rom manager unless we flash something other than a stock rom
The instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426 have how to get an .img recovery flashed through adb and terminal emulator (listed as optional third step I believe of first post)

OK Now a little freaked out. I can't get to billards file or any of my back ups because they were on my external sd card!!!! I hate trying to learn new stuff (old dog)
I'm so used to HTC and when I think I have a grasp of Sammy I F&ck it up!
Oh yeah and my back ups on PC are gone because of hard drive crash! FFFFUUUUDDDDGGGGEEEE!!!!!!!
Any help to get me back to where I was before I flashed this thing would be very much appreciated. Hell I'll take a bootable ROM of any kind. Sweating bullets!
I have the mskips 3.0 toolkit can that help? I scared ****less to do anything!
I don't have ideas of why. But if you have ROM, try flashing it and see if it'll boot. Then at least you can get the rom you want later and maybe your backups.
No Rom on Phone

It's (TWRP) not showing anything under the external sd card and I'm not sure how to mount the external sd card? Under mount there are some options problem is this is a modified version of TWRP 2.3.2.3 or something close to that. Just confused on how to just get a stock rom back on the thing?
thank you very much for your reply

I had this problem a few times. I know I solved it by just flashing back to stock and formatted everything. I know that's probably excessive and you'll lose a lot of info but it's better than having a very expensive paper weight. Lol

I can't see anything on my sd card and since this is some sort of modified version of TWRP it can only see what's on the internal memory. But none of my back ups are on the internaland whenever it rebooots it always boots the the modified version of TWRP. Really stumped i don't know adb so I don't know if I can even push anything to the phone?
Don't mind losing data no biggie there but I'm like you don't want it totally hosed.
Thanks Charles
Use odin to flash latest twrp over the funky one. Then use real twrp to access sd card. Also before that, remove sd card and copy contents to new hard drive using a card reader.

Copying files now. Quick question/advice If I can see my old TWRP file in my internal memory could I flash that file with this weird modified version of TWRP? Then I could flash any file from my sd card stock or custom ROM. If not to flash the TWRP file in Odin do I place it in PDA the slot and which buttons do I need to check (reboot etc)?
Wait I can't use Odin because my PC can't recognize or see my phone because of this modified version of TWRP. Damn it!
My apologies for the noob questions just scared ****less to do anything.
My sd card is wiped clean
So I could put a file on sd card but this modified version of TWRP can't see my external sd card.
Thank you for your time
Charles
To use odin you have to put the phone in "download mode" not recovery. It's a special mode different from recovery or OS or bootloader. Power off the phone and press & hold UPvol+home+power until you get the download mode screen.
It doesn't matter what kind of recovery or anything else you have. It works even with no recovery or kernel or bootloader or OS at all.
Get the tar version of openrecovery 2.4.1.0 (or whatevers latest you future readers). Don't unpack the tar.
Uncheck reboot.
Use the PDA button, select the downloaded tar.
After flashing is done and it says 1 success 0 error, bpull the battery.
This next is annoying and I can't really believe there is no better way, but I need to do it this way or else the newly flashed recovery doesn't "take" and I have to flash it again. Just once the first time after flashing. After that no problem. Anyway, hold DOWNvol+home+power, and while holding all those, put the battery back in.
Now you should have a good fully functional useful TWRP recovery that you can use to flash all kinds of things from the sd card, backup all kinds of things to the sd card, access the internal main OS flash drive, the internal "sdcard" and external sdcard, etc.

Hi Everyone
I just got the GS5 and planned to give my friend my old GS3, when I gave it to her it seemed to be working fine but she gave it back saying the camera & sound wasn't working (which I can confirm)... I have no reason to believe she did anything (other than put her memory card in the phone) so I'm guessing it's a software issue but all the things I've tried are getting me nowhere. So here's what I've done so far.
Basic restore (from settings menu)
hard restore including cach clearing via the system restore (Volume up + home + Power)
Using ODIN
Rooted phone (& confirmed root)
Flashed stock rom
Using CWM
tried to flash two custom roms & Gapps but they aborted install saying either the sd card or the actual file wasn't found
I can also say that although the SD card has been formatted & mounted CWM does not offer me to install from zip using it, only the internal and this didn't change when I used a different sd card.
Basically, I don't care if I give it to her rooted or with a stock rom, I just want to get the camera and sound working... Any ideas?
Odin flash stock or root66 firmware. Then Factory reset after making sure your backups are up to date.

I did an odin flash of the stock rom but it didn't fix the problem
But did you factory reset and test everything while it was squeaky clean?
If you odin stock firmware and factory reset afterwards, and you are still having issues it is very likely a hardware issue. Unfortunately theres not a lot we can do to help with that.
You might try running logcat and see if it gives you any clues as to why things arent working.

How do I flash a ROM without an SD card? On all the devices I've ever ran a custom ROM I've had an SD card to flash from that wouldn't get cleared when I wipe and format. Without said SD card, the ROM file would be deleted, correct?
So my real question is, how do I flash a ROM without a PC or SD card on my N7 2013?
EDIT: I have rooted, unlocked the bootloader, and flashed TWRP recovery without a PC.
I used Towelroot to root;
I used BootUnlocker (Available in the Play Store) to unlock my bootloader;
and I used Flashify to flash the TWRP image.
Thanks

Download rom and place in /sdcard, reboot into bootloader, use advanced wipe but leave internal storage unchecked, swipe to wipe, flash rom

If you have TWRP just download it onto your internal memory and flash it. In TWRP you can just "swipe." This action does not wipe the internal memory, the ROM you want to flash will remain. Always run a backup first thing in TWRP before doing any flashing.
Thanks guys.

not necessarily. you should just have the same files like pictures and stuff from your last rom.
Internal storage is all the files in /sdcard.
OK. Thank you all, I successfully flashed CarbonROM but I'm experiencing an issue that I think has to do with the gapps package I flashed. I used the stock PA Gapps, updated yesterday, but when I try to download a cyanogen mod theme from the play store I get an error 400 unable to install. This is only with themes, I installed TiBu and a couple other apps just fine. Any idea why?
