Is it just me, or do you guys find yourself checking out other carrier galaxy note 2 forums here on xda. Honestly I find it annoying jumping back and forth between the tmobile, verizon, att and sprint forums.I know there are subtle differences between the variants software wise but is it honestly enough to create 4 different forums? Alot of the tips and tricks, problems and questions being ask in these forums are very useful and relevant to other carrier galaxy note 2's. I just wanted to get poll and see if everyone else kinda feels the same way. If so, maybe we can get xda to consolidate...

That would be something the developer in the development section would point out. The same could be said of people downloading the internationals versions of roms on US devices or vice versa. When i had my g2 there were plenty of roms that were out for the US device that could not be used on the international (z) device. We still however had a combined forum since in most cases the devices were exactly the same. Same courtesy should be extended to this device.
I too think it's better to have different forums for different carriers even though the phone itself are very similar. It make it easier for people to find out updates that is through the carriers only or roms
Merge at least the i317(M) and T889 (potentially also N7105) General/Q&A subforums.
Having these two separate makes almost no sense.
No. It would turn these forums into the never ending

Separate please.
Keep it as it is. The adventurous can take a trip to the other forums.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
Can you believe that there are 7 separate forums for Note2 in XDA? I find myself typing "note" into the "Find Your Device..." field very often to see what models are available, and I actually sometimes visit AT&T sections. I don't bather visiting others because it's too cumbersome.
I think it is more like we should change the hierarchy of the forums; move (combine) all Note2 forums under the "Samsung Galaxy Note II" forum which is already there, but keep each variant (different models) into different sub-forums. We would have a separate dev sub-forum for each carrier plus a general dev sub-forum to cover universal matters, but a combined themes sub-forum, etc.

This makes it easy to navigate without too much clatter. We can also check the activity levels (i.e. post counts) of other Note's on one page.
Would be sweet if we had the choice to merge/collapse subforums of our own choosing for our own viewing pleasure. I know I'd merge the AT&T and T-Mo forums, so I'd view those as one for myself whereas someone else could view them separately.

Same here, why in the world do we have separate forums for these topics. They are basically the same phones. I myself find myself going back and forth between these forums, very annoying and also a good loss of creative potential by splitting folks up. Please merge them.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
Merge them, put GSM dev, CDMA dev, then if you really want within those have the carrier sub-forums. The sub-forums would be for things like modems. Accessories forum is already shared, if they collapsed all LTE note 2 sections to one device it would make life easier and devs would not need to have 3 or more threads for multi-carrier ROMs.

Agreed - a separate forum for VZW GN would be fantastic.
Some people have already asked questions about flashing mods and whatnot for a GSM GN on a VZW GN. It would be prudent to create a separate forum in my opinion.
I find it annoying as is to sift through all the stuff as is, with it mixed together, I can't think of how hard it will be to find stuff once development goes full blast.
separate forum is my vote.
We definitely need a separate forum.
If not separate entire forum, maybe separate subforums for LTE vs GSM, or something like mandatory thread tags that show up in the title (you have to choose GSM or LTE/CDMA right below the subject line and it gets prepended in brackets [ ]).

The last few days seems to really show that this is needed.
Please pretty please, mods?
yeop.. agree.. seperate forum.
Yep, I already got myself into all kinds of trouble trying to install the "search icon/menu icon" addon. Turns out, if you have the LTE version you lose your notification bar & all the bottom icons. I'll be far more cautious now, but I'm sure I won't be the last one to try and install the wrong version of something.
They should seperate it like they did for the Milestone / Droid, and have really just a seperate dev section for each phone but otherwise it was a shared thread.
Thinking that the Development forum should be split into two
One for CDMA/LTE
One for GSM
Seems like that would solve the confusion and prevent potential bricks.

I thought maybe I was a noob and didn't understand why they weren't splitting the forums. It seems like some GSM mods/roms/kernels work on the LTE, so you really have to go through trial and error to see what works?
Splitting would be far the easiest, though, unless developers have to maintain double the amount of threads which could be a pain.

I'd have to agree. And as for things that work on both, the author can post in both sections. That way they can field questions separately between the two, instead of having people with different devices posting in the same thread. Surprised this hasn't been done already.

Agreed! It could definitely clear up some confusion, even though I assume most members here are pretty smart.

Why not just "tag" the threads with [GSM] and [LTE] (like some devs already do).

? I don't get your point. There are no general development threads. Every mod is made for a specific model, they're not both compatible.
Radios are not cross-compatible. LTE radios only work with LTE. GSM .. same thing.
[GSM] and [LTE] are too disorganized. With two forums it makes things more organized and eliminates the chance of flashing something for the LTE when you have GSM (and vice versa).
Also, this is the wrong forum to be posting this. There are two other threads about this, we don't need another one.

Addendum: I really should say that Rogers, Bell and Telus use the I747, which AT&T also uses. I really don't like saying it's an AT&T I747, because it's not.

XDA is about hacking devices, not discussing carriers. Don't forget that.
Go to a carrier-related forum if you want that.
I, for one, see this as a good change. Speaking as an engineer/developer.

Not really a good change, a step in the right direction, yes. But I for one only want to see Sprint related general/off topic posts when I come into the SGS3 general forum. That's why I ask for the tags. I mean that is a system in its self that needs to be used here ( I would love to see that happen). I'm just saying that makes it so much easier when scanning, and when you don't want to have to subscribe to all the Sprint related topics just to keep up with what your trying to focus on is ridiculous if you ask me.

Tho we wouldn't have to if we had separate forums. I know in the past there were several that would cross platforms from international version to US versions and that was great, but I think it's a bit confusing to do it like this and if you're going to label every thread with a carrier anyway, why not just have it's own forum??

Also, they split the forums but STILL have it by the AMERICAN carrier name.
They need to have it by the model # name... ie AT&T would be the i747 instead. That way canadian users wont be confused either

I only agree with it for the Q&A and two dev forums. The rest should be together, all the accessories are now in the 9300 forum it seems. I certainly understand the problems, but some of that is because some people (developers included) didn't realize that things like CWM are different on different phones now, so we have people with IMEI problems who --appear-- to have used Sprint CWM on ATT phones (I would have been in that category but Samsung replaced my phone already).

There's the International i9500 and the i9505... one is the octa-core and the other is the quad-core just like the m919. i9505 and m919 ROMs (all SGS4 models except the 9500, actually) are interchangeable so long as they don't include modems/baseband, etc...but who does that anyway? Oh, and the kernel; gotta use a kernel for your specific model...

Yea but think of how many problems this would cause because of the 3 or 4 things that are not compatible. Seems like its easier for newbies to just look for where they bought their phone and not have to worry about basebands, Kernels, Radio/Modems and any other incompatible firmware.

I think things are bad as it is and I agree that 3-4 different S4 models in the same forums
is just asking for more problems and a lot more little shiny BRICKS! LOL
What I really would like to see though, and I am surprised that no one else mentioned it before me which is
the fact that there are two Tmobile M919 Forums, one for the "T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4 Original Android Development"
and the other for "T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4 Android Development".
At first when the the "Original Development" forums were created it was made clear to all the devs that all the CM10/AOSP/AOKP/MIUI
roms belong in the "Original Development" forums. (this held true for other brands and models of phones not just the S4)
And now for who knows what reason a lot of the CM10/AOSP/AOKP devs started using the "T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4 Android
Development" forum for all those AOSP/AOKP/CM10 roms so now they are all mixed together with the standard Touchwiz Jellybean
based custom roms.
Sometimes it's not very easy to even tell which is which unless we search real hard in the OP post of each roms thread.
I am surprised that none of the xda moderators here have said anything about it, and it's been going on now for a long time.

Its because the ROMs in the original development section are built from source. The other section may be based on aosp ROMs but its not built from source.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
It all is very clear. Of everything is original development for original roms. Roms that have original coding and features. Everything else goes in the other development. It is not just a matter of being built from source. I could build an AOKP roms from source but it would not go in original development. As there is nothing original in the rom. Just a kang of someone else's work.
As for the OP question. The simplest and most straight forward answer is that people are stupid and can't read or do proper research before they decide to reprogram their device. So we have to separate them and give them less chance of screwing it up and then filling this development forum with tons of thread stating how they bricked their device and need help fast, like this is some support site.
Wayne Tech Nexus
When the s3 came out last year, I remember that there was only one forum for the Intl and US variants, boy what a mess it was reading threads that does not relate to the tmo version or the att one. I'm glad xda realized it and separated it like how it is now. It is better this way and much easier to find answers or ask questions related to your specific device.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk 2
on the international side roms are based off the international stock version.
Then you have the carrier branded sites for tmobile att verizon etc.. which have roms based off there respective carrier. So for us its based off tmobile rom with tmobile bloat ie wifi calling.
that at least my take.
